Iron Monkey is delightful, it might be my favorite Donnie Yen movie. Back on the subject of vidya games, I had an unexpected, but very welcome surprise. A few days ago I got an email from Amazon notifying me that my copy of SMT V was delayed and the new expected delivery window would be November 19-22. Yesterday I got another email notifying me that it shipped and delivery was today, to which my response was "Are you sure? Today is Saturday." Lo and behold, a package showed up at my door today. I had no idea Amazon delivered on Sunday. Good thing because I go back on the road tomorrow morning. Also, they came through on the steelcase: Steelcases are usually fairly limited quantity, so I wasn't sure I'd actually get one. Not a big deal, a copy in a regular case would play exactly the same, but it is nice and it didn't cost anything extra.2 points

Started mentally preparing myself for having a guest staying at my place for a while... from mid December to sometime mid January. No stranger, on the contrary, a very close friend. But two years of lock downs, border closures, separation means we've only met virtually on face time and phone the last almost two years. Very much looking forward to it2 points

I was pretty sure I blamed it on the uploaded video in my post at some point, but then rewrote the sentence - you're right, there are decent recordings on YouTube, this one isn't. Not sure, but the video quality of the video suggests that a lot of dynamic was probably lost in the encoding (or ripping) from whatever source this is.1 point

You asked for this. I think it is better. If that's the one with the young Carole kick that sold me on the show and made me laugh very hard. I watched the sub and it works, but it feels a lot like the vocalists are native English (and French) speakers so it can be jarring sometimes.1 point

Carole and Tuesday ep2. It's either getting better or I was in a better mood watching it. On a side note, I think I made a mistake watching this with a JP dub, seems like the show would work much better in English... Whatever, I'll stick with the JP dub...1 point

Actually, it's not too shabby. Kind of a...not bad, but definitely lacking recording, though - poor dynamics gave it such a muted kind of sound, . They never do, though...1 point

Suddenly had to think of this while reading your comment. Surprise me and like this : This is most likely the best thing to come from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle... Extremely impressive coordination by the background singers though. Extremely well synchronized and singing on four separate scales to give it an hefty amount of harmonic depth for just four of them. True, but it's even worse for (semi-)canon lesbian pairings, because the posts always go like: "They're lesbians and sleeping with each other!" Sure guys, that's what people in a healthy relationship do, usually. The fact that you need to point that out just reveals your masturbatory fantasies. Now please go away and never come back.1 point

I don't know if it was a shove, because I think it happens off-screen, but yeah, I think that's more or less right. Do not presume to know that which will or won't offend me, mere mortal. My tastes are inscrutable, incomprehensible, improbable, implausible, impossible! https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/3huxtbotzfvxzy9/pUiLOshVK9.mp4 But yes, almost definitely. Thank god we'll never know. One benefit of watching a show long after it's over is never having to interact with the fandom.1 point

Samurai Champloo 20 and 21: The gang picks up a blind singer. I can't say too much without spoiling it, but I loved it. @Bartimaeus will hate the singing though. I missed this yesterday.1 point

There are several weapons that are really good with a Phantom. Everything that stacks on hit is great (e.g. Willbreaker, Saru Sichr) because it allows to stack twice the amount of debuffs or dots. And also all weapons that do something on X% hit or crit because the phantom makes it more likely that it really happens (see Sungrazer for example or Endre's Flog or Stalker's Patience etc.). Blackbow is very good, too. I think I like Draining Touch best.1 point

Went back and started up my 2nd life path route on Cyberpunk. Thought I'd see what a year's worth of patches might have done to the game. Not that I had any major issues on my first game when it released, just a small handful of graphical glitches that were noticable. Does seem to be a lot fewer people moving around and less cars on the street.1 point

Every time they're visiting the Heiliger Kaiser Church (the name cracks me up, and the translation is Holy King Church, which is wrong... Kaiser means emperor, not king, and that word comes from the classical latin pronunciation of Caesar, but never mind) in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS it's playing a 90ies JRPG jingle that's so painfully generic that I have to laugh. There's an absolute derth of material on YouTube, so no easily linking, but that theme sounds an awful lot like entering random village #3 in Secret of Mana.1 point

A couple of months ago I wrote about how I just watched the greatest rasslin' PPV ever. Here we are months later and... Holy ****! It's funny how much the main event of Full Gear 2021 reminded me of Starrcade 97. It was December 1997, WCW was riding high. While the nWo storyline was showing its cracks, overall the product was good and ratings were great. The main even was the culmination of a year and a half long storyline with Sting. I can't say it was perfect, but for a story told over that length of time it was done as well as reasonably expected. All the hard work was done, the only thing left was for Sting to beat Hollywood Hogan for the WCW World Championship clean and stand triumphant. They ****ed it up. The main event of Full Gear 21 was the culmination of a nearly 3 year long storyline with Hangman Adam Page. For a story of this length it was nearly perfect. All that was needed was for Adam to beat Kenny Omega for the World Championship clean and stand triumphant, and he did, because AEW is run by a man who knows what the **** he is doing. The crazy thing is that as good as the main event was, and it was phenomenal, it wasn't even Match of the Night for me. The first match on the PPV proper (there was a good women's tag match on the pre-show) was MotN. MJF vs Darby Allin was SUPA HOT FIYA!1 point

Great decision, after the lockdowns I have really come to appreciate spending time with real friends and spending time with family We tend to take things like " seeing friends " for granted and so well done for doing this1 point

Kinda same, been poking at Forza Horizon 5. It's fun, and it's more inline with Horizon 3 than 4 (which I didn't like and barley played). This about sums it up, honestly: This content cannot be displayed until agreeing to our use of Social Media cookies. Learn more. Manage cookies I wish someone would create a proper TDU sequel ... I forgot all about Twin Mirror. If I recall correctly, that's a narrative-driven murder mystery with surreal elements. That sounds like it would be squarely in my wheelhouse. I have way too much on my plate right now, but I should look into scooping it up next time a good sale comes along. Edit: It's 50% off on the PS store for another week. Hmm...1 point

While cool I don't see the kids using this in the current game state. If the launch the ability to get inside the house maybe a bridge from the table to the porch is created this way or from the picnic table to the upper garden with the grill. Though with how this game works I think a zip line launcher would be better. Maybe the ammo is made of bee stingers, quartzite and a splatburst. First use either loops to a zip anchor or spikes the ground the second brings up a reticle for targeting and places a anchor on the target. Think the harpoon from Evolv3 that would trap the monster to a smaller area briefly1 point

Seems like the kind of game where folks aren't content with violating the laws of physics, but pouring lighter fluid and dropping a match on the text books, in the best possible way:1 point

I've been playing forza horizon 5, and so far the best thing about it is the memories about Test Drive Unlimited that it evokes sometimes. I just finished a race that goes around the entire map and I was done with it in 15 minutes, the game lauded me for finishing the gruesomely long race, and all I could do was remember the 200km "Around the Island" race that took me the better part of 45 minutes if I recall correctly, and it was awesome. Forza is definetly newer and has alot less of the geometry issues and such that TDU had, but the racing is so much less interesting. And Forza also feels very sluggish, not performance-wise but driving 200kmh feels closer to 70-100kmh or so. Also, TDU had less ****ing lootboxes, less nagging about online activities and was less silly. That said a big + for Forza is that you can drive a Volvo 242 Turbo Evo and a Volvo 850R. So there's that, well worth 60$.1 point

My biggest gripes with how J.E. Sawyer designs games have been predominantly around making all aspects of combat (including things only indirectly related to combat) tedious as hell. ...So a game that takes all of that out and instead focuses on a cool idea in a unique setting? Yeah, I'm interested.1 point

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/breaking-fw-de-klerk-dead-25433597 Big news for SA, FW De Klerk passed away yesterday. He was the last white president in Apartheid and he played a critical role in ensuring the relatively peaceful end to this failed and immoral system Without De Klerk we wouldnt have had our 1994 election as he represented the National Party who were running the country at the time and had implemented Apartheid in 1948 and you always need people on both sides of any conflict that are prepared to compromise and negotiate if you want to find a peaceful solution So he really mattered even though some people misunderstand what he actually did and why he did it. Was he controversial? Definitely ...but I am very grateful for what he did to contribute towards the new SA De Klerk RIP1 point

Open world, level-based, linear, metroidvania, I don't really have a preference. If it's good it's good. I just don't like the industry following trends, which happens all the time. Open world gets popular and suddenly everybody is making open world games almost exclusively. I like variety. Luckily, there are always indies to buck the trend.1 point

I literally can't remember the plot for Morrowind. I remember jumping around all the time to raise my jumping skill. Oblvion plot was the Daedra portals unlocking which I have no clue how it ended up since I hated the mechanics to close the holes. Skyrim was the Dragonborn stuff and the civil war, both which were ignorable, really. But that was kind of my point, Bethesda's style of games don't really need strong plots; that's not what brings people back to them. So the continuing desire to make something the player cares about be a person (Dad in FO3, son in FO4) when none of the other games seem to go in that direction seems counterintuitive to me.1 point

I'm not sure if they can't, or if they just don't realize that its not all that important to Fallout to have a railroaded thing you have to care about. Even the original ditched the reason you go to the Wasteland if you follow the story long enough to solve it. Part of why FO:NV works IMO is you choose to care or not about who shot you. Eventually you'll end up in New Vegas.1 point
