The third most difficult fight in the entire game after Gorecci street triple crown and the drake, is the mist island bridge with Fampyrs imo. In that fight you get swarmed, rushed, flanked etc. IMO the safest build in the game Vs that encounter and most others, is 3 beefy characters of any kind, including tanks. 1-2 "squishies" in the middle of them. Thing is - in my experience this game rewards you heavily, and punshes you minimally - for STACKING your party CLOSE to each other. I noticed that the game is significantly easier on all difficulties, if you just keep your entire party hugging each other close. Because soooooooo many of the heals and buffs are very low AOE range. Edit: I actually hoped the game would reward stuff like splitting up, multiple chokeholds, send one solo etc. Buuuuut ... and feel free to disagree. It's always a huge advantage to just keep everyone tightly stacked.3 points

a fun trick i did early on was use it in conjunction with a large shield modal. the immobility doesn't matter much when you can hop around the battlefield and you get huuuge defenses as a result (massive deflection bonus from large shield, temporary even larger boost from escape, plus the massive damage reduction from the modal). good for tanking in a pinch (or on a character like eder, just a great tanking solution when facing down a bunch of enemy rogue archers).2 points

Eder can be built out to have a crap load of engagement slots. But even with that, there will be some enemies that do zip by your frontline like Boeroer said. So it can sometimes be advisable to have another character who can baby sit the backline and take care of anything that gets past Eder or whoever your main tank is. I generally like to have one more tanky character who soaks up a lot of enagements and then another melee character who isn't built out purely to be an engagement specialist but who can maybe engage a few enemies if needed and can take a few hits while dishing it out too. An example of this might be like Eder as a Swashbuckler who is specced for engagement slots and uses Kapa Tanga + Cadlu Scalth and takes all the engagement talents and then Serafen as a Barb with Willbreaker to debuff enemies but also able to attract a bit of enemy attention without dying if anything breaks past Eder. Summons can sometimes serve this role as well. A few Ogres summoned from Pallegina as a Herald can soak up a lot of enemy actions. I also prefer that my backline not be completely squishy unless I'm doing some sort of gimmick build that needs to be. So having Aloth as a backliner for example...he'll have some defensive spells at the ready if he gets rushed even if his main role is to do damage and apply CC. Or Maia if she's a Ranger/Rogue I'll give her escape to reposition if needed or if she's a Geomancer I'll have her have some defensive spells ready as well so she doesn't get crushed if she gets enemy attention. Ever since Poe1's DLC it's been my preference to have a backline that can defend itself a little bit if needed because WM1 & 2 love to throw enemies at you from all angles and tank and spank on POTD in that is not easy :). Imo if you're gonna have a glass cannon character that character better be a hell of a cannon and you better take every precaution to CC or engage enemies so they can do their trick. But most classes will have at least some minor way of defending themselves even if they're focused on offense. It's always good to not neglect defensive abilities completely. Even something as simple as Escape on your Rogue can save that character's life in certain situations.2 points

Often you don't need more than one - but in some later encounters you will face quite a lot of rushers (rogues and barbs mostly) who just zip right past your tank buddy and are quite sturdy, too. (looking at the Splintered Reef for example). Or your UB/Trickster gets hit by an Arcane Dampener (say hello to the scriveners in the Drowned Barrows) and he suddenly looses all his tankyness. In situations like that it's good to not have the 1 tank + 4 squishy guys setup.2 points

Defensively Arcane Knight is more reliable for the majority of the game and is easier in the early game imo. Lay on Hands + Blood Sacrifice is a sweet combo. Even nice later with Wall of Draining (endless Lay on Hands). Paladin passives (don't forget Inspiring Triumph) + Wizard Buffs + Llengrath's Safeguard = enormous defense stacking. AR is top notch, too. Once you get Wall of Draining with a Battlemage: OP due to all active instances of Unbending getting prolonged into the sky. Unbending gives you a separate, short-timed healing over time effect every time you get hit - prolonging every one of them means you'll get hundreds, even thousands of healing points per tick at some point. With decent armor and health pool you cannot get knocked out out or killed - except by one-shots, enfeeblement or more than 3 injuries.2 points

That's the general nature of social media (particularly online forums), everything has already been done and will be done again. Just take it for what it is and try not to get looped into a relapse of terminally online posting syndrome. Because that's a huge waste of time and unsatisfying, like watching Star Trek: Enterprise. It possibly could. And that baby would be a reincarnated Tuvix, who Janeway would kill again. Which would all be more interesting than what NuTrek is actually going to do. Oh yeah, to get away from musings on forums and mediocre to bad trek, here's some news https://www.businessinsider.com/marine-told-trump-rally-saved-afghan-baby-under-investigation-report-2021-10?amp I know I just complained about people waiting for a book deal to drop info, but how much of a dumbass do you have to be to break guidelines in front of an audience. Part of me thinks he wants to get discharged so he can do a media tour. EDIT: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/30/us/police-killings-undercounted-study.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=cur So police killings are underreported by about half. Wow.1 point

am knowing there is more than a few obsidian posters who agree with martha and larry, and am admitting the last four years has disabused us o' the arrogance o' being confident in any "most americans" observations, but we would hope many americans realize there is an unconscionable large % o' american children who only get one decent meal a day, and that one sufficient meal is available only 'cause o' free school lunch programs. nutrition is kinda essential for brain development as a child matures. ... am recalling a happier time when pundits were self conscious enough to be embarrassed if they let slip their prejudices regarding social welfare programs which benefited children and others objective unable to bootstrap themselves out of hunger and poverty. in 2021 we got fox news anchors casual bemoaning those damned lazy first graders being conditioned to look for the next handout? Still, one can't help but to feel like the Q who killed himself on Voyager every now and then when posting in this thread. You end up realizing that everything is a pointless rehash of something said before, and you just delete everything. This thread is probably not causing stars to spontaneously go nova and John de Lancie trying to have a baby with Kate Mulgrew any time soon.1 point

I have a group of ten people and we all want to play together but currently the max is 4 people, one per each pc in game. I know my group would be perfectly fine have multiple of a character as long as we could all play together. So my suggestion is up the numbers of players that can join from 4 too 10.1 point

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/oct/01/steven-donziger-lawyer-sentenced-contempt-chevron This whole Donzinger thing is ****ed. If there is a hell, I'm pretty sure these corporate goons and judges will end up roasting there. I don't agree, consensual (and safe) sex is fine even outside of long-term relationships. It doesn't make you a bad person or anything and is better than sexual harassment or intimate partner abuse that too many fellas dismiss or downplay. Of course as you said, I think there are very different ideas of worth here. I do.1 point

I saw a few people psychopaths like that, too, but they were mostly booed by the people with brains. One person psychopath said they didn't even really notice anything difference, while another person psychopath said it was awesome, classic Gainax humor just like Little Witch Academia and Kill la Kill. No, you read that right, they listed shows that weren't by Gainax as best exemplifying Gainax. No, really: I initially thought this person was a troll, but the rest of what they posted made it pretty clear that they just needed to get their pants in the proper place - firmly secured on their head. Just from a stylistic viewpoint of how the songs are done and presented, K-On is so clearly superior to Love Live! in pretty much every way...and never mind the rest of the show. Throw away the tape and move on, . That and it's a 2011 show. If it breaks your brain, it ought to break mine.1 point

I played the first mission of the Starship Troopers RTS Demo. First impression is that it's better than Dawn of War 3. Though that isn't too hard. It is a bit stressful in that you have to position your units correctly. The game has line of fire, so you can't shoot through friendly units. You can't therefor just run around with Attack-moves as a murder ball.1 point

Yeah, don't feel compelled to watch it on my behalf, it's probably even more frustrating on the whole than the original NGE was, and the payoff isn't as good IMO. My rating of the show is also overly generous because I'm mostly not taking the terrible filler episodes that were not written/intended by Anno into account (indeed, apparently he made his own cut of the show which he released on laserdisk waaay back, and the totality of stuff he took from the filler episodes was a mere fifteen minutes). It's probably worth watching if you want to experience a strange proto-NGE adventure show (and I read on Wikipedia that NGE was actually originally intended to be a sequel to Nadia, but they couldn't obtain the rights to it so they had to sever the connection). I went poking around for how people feel about the filler, and was pleasantly surprised to see the general reaction is about as bad as mine was: "they ruined the characters", "none of it matters at all, it's totally skippable, so do not hesitate to do so", "jimminy freaking crickets, those are the worst episodes of any show I've ever seen", et cetera. Even if they did, would they care? The demographics are the demographics, after all. @Steins;Gate: What are the chances that I'd like Steins;Gate, folks?1 point

FYI in case it wasn't clear, unbroken still gets bonus engagement and bonus to engagement attacks even without a shield. I've actually contemplated using unbroken without a shield for this reason (though usually i prefer blackjacket).1 point

I definitely use escape in numerous ways and not just for defense. It's a great offensive tool to hit the backline of enemies and to your point it can be nice for repositioning to save another squishy as well. It's just a great talent imo.1 point

I think difficulty matters here a lot because of extra/upgraded mobs on PotD? What is OP playing on? Even if fighters get extreme engagement counts, on PotD+upscaling hold, in practice for me positioning makes it extremely hard for a single beefy character to protect all the squishies (and Into The Fray has terrible hit rate early on), unless there's a doorway. Two beefy characters can generally suffice though. i generally tend to slot in a third character, while not really a tank or off-tank, can at least survive some melee punishment for a little bit for cases like the fampyr fights mentioned upthread or when you're just being flanked from all directions in a street encounter, so they can keep the even squishier party members still standing. I occasionally do this, but only really mid-late game when the person I'm peeling off actually has enough tools at their disposal to survive being so isolated, or if it's temporary. Most common example is simply just a rogue or other melee-dps type diving straight for a critical caster, though sometimes in some dungeons I just need a character to take an alternate route to engage the enemy because they're blocked off and I don't have leap or something. (though now that i'm using druid more, druid has enough close-range spells worth using that i find myself leap-ing or running around on their own more often for optimal targeting) but again, only mid-late game really. early on, my rogue trying to take out a skeletal sorcerer will get hit by one arrow and lose half their health and they don't have any escape or evasion skills. only rarely worth it.1 point

In addition to what is already mentioned about frontliners, I agree that often times 1 is enough. That means the rest of the party has two important functions (hard CCing and AOEs on the mobs) - a good offense is the best defense! For buffs, I would prioritize Armor Reduction Buffs, accuracy, or perception, with armor being the most important. What's more, make sure you have 1-2 flankers who are actively destroying mages and archers in mobs' backlines. When tough mobs rush you, your best friend is often Resolve afflictions (frightened is good, terrify even better) , as many mobs do not have resistances (I am thinking of Fampyrs!) As for Fire godlike, that is a good question. I am not sure how long the racial +AR buff is, and it could be fun if it lasts forever. On the other hand, having access to the +10 percent crit chance/dmg hat is nice, but so are the racial bonuses for Firegodlike. Thantanos headress is amazing, too, as it provides +5 accuracy +5 % dmg to flanked targets. Once your Swashbucker has persistent distraction, this is guaranteed. I am playing a Death Godlike swashbuckler now, (POTD Solo), but I honestly miss the versatility of having helmet options. In, sum, these are all minor bonuses, so I wouldn't over think it haha1 point

So far I use Escape more often to save anOTHER unit than the unit using Escape. Escape+Mule Kick FTW Or Into the Fray, depending on whether it is 1 enemy or multiple on my squishies. Now I am questioning my 2 Swashbucklers again xD Is Unbroken even worth it when I don't use a shield?1 point

So my friend told me about LA by Night, and he praised it alot. It's a videocast of people playing Vampire, the storyteller is an employee of White Wolf and there are alot of references to Vampire Bloodlines, so I figured some people here might find it interesting aswell I have to say that Alexander Wards voice sounds alot like one of the radio voices from the game, it could be lifted straight out of it. I think it's one of the radio voices he is sparking recognition from1 point

Neon Genesis Nadia: The End of Blue Water. The last handful of episodes beat the snot out of the preceding filler episodes, at least. Thanks, Mr. Anno - very cool. At least you knew your own characters, unlike the hack frauds that took over for you for a bit. My official review for the show: 7/10: Has some of the absolute worst filler I've ever seen in a show (roughly 9 episodes could be classified as such), but pretty good outside of that. The characters never quite developed how I wanted them to and the story kind of stops, starts, and sputters a lot towards the end...but it's still worth a watch if you want a classic adventure with some extra oomph to it. Just don't be afraid to skim through the filler episodes, because they are truly terrible.1 point

You can summon a murder pony as a Trickster, so why not lmao. I've honestly played Kingmaker so much with the Call of the Wild mod I've forgotten what is and isn't in vanilla KM and WotR. With all the Nexus drama I'm not up to date on all the WotR mods that have been released, but I hope something like CotW gets releases for WotR.1 point

Ok. Maybe the guy got a horse for one of the companions. Not sure if any of them is a cavalier, but you can always multiclass them. This will not be my first playthrough, but I really wanted a mounted Arcane Trickster/Trickster for whatever reason. A hafling mounting a velociraptor looks funny. Maybe I'll leave the spells for the Mythic class and be a cavalier. But if someone mods the Boon Companion feat to make the animal reach level 20 I'll totally use it in this pt.1 point
-
If it's like PnP, class levels that get a companion should stack, like Hunter 5/Cavalier 1 would have an animal companion a character of 6th level would have. Levels in classes that don't have a companion don't advance the companion, unless you have Boon Companion in which case up to four levels will advance the companion. One thing that is noticeably missing is Capybara mounts for Small characters. In WoTR I don't think you can have more than one companion. You can cheese classes that normally restrict companions (like Cavalier being Horse only) by picking it up in another class and then going into Cavalier. Maybe you can buy horses or something, I haven't moved beyond testing builds.1 point

Wouldn't have thought it could work like that, but brains are weird. You wouldn't think that synesthesia would 'work' either based on how 'normal' sound/ sight perception works, and there are some pretty funky perceptional stuff everyone can do like adapting to vision inverting glasses. (Colours are also a bit scientifically vague, since like a lot of stuff they're a language based construction to describe an observed physical/ perceptional phenomenon, and that is inherently imprecise. Humans could definitely see in the 450-500nm range historically, but often the word for blue didn't exist. Thus you see descriptions of the sea as 'black' or 'wine coloured' instead in many ancient texts, and even in english 'blue' was the last major colour to be named)1 point

(assuming you mean arcane knight here) if you're including tactician for discussion, then i would say a battlemage no question. if for whatever reason tactician is out of consideration, then i'd defer to ppl with more solo experience, but battlemage still seems strong if less obviously so (you'll be mostly doing casting and fighter offers more assistance to casting than paladin does)1 point

Can't recommend Kitchen Stove on ciphers enough. Take Thunderous Report and start every fight with full focus.1 point

i have a really hard time micro-ing ciphers if they're not my mainchar (which i naturally pay more attention to as a personal psychological bias). i put on an AI script, even if it's suboptimal, because when serafen (or ydwin) starts doing something, it's very obvious, and is a great time for me to be like: do I want this to happen? if not, i pause the game and change what they're doing if i do, i just let it happen and thank the AI script for using focus that would've just been wasted so i would personally recommend setting up an AI script, even if it's just the default (though honestly I would copy it and add in an appropriate minimum focus requirement, because by default the scripts are way too spammy and don't let focus accumulate). though personally i don't know what the big deal with mind blades is1 point

Ah - right, right. Parting Sorrow gives wounds as soon as an engagement ends - for whatever reason. Afaik anything that ends engagement works for Parting Sorrow. It even gives wounds when an enemy you engaged dies (because engagement ends then, too ). I guess it should also work if engagement ends from afflictions (hard CC of an enemy ends your engagement, too).1 point

I've been playing this build and it's amazing. Early on the brute was a very sturdy and competent warrior with Monastic Unarmed Training. However, things got crazy once I got Amra and upgraded it. In the first fight following this, a bounty, I struck out at an enemy, surrounded by several other foes and a horde of skellies. Poof! There was a en explosion of greenish skeleton smoke and gibs and everything was destroyed, including, unfortunately, a party member who got too close to the mayhem. It's a crazily OP build, but definitely keep the party members away as Boeroer recommended!1 point
