  8. Although Beggar Winfrith is only level 3, I think, the pirate ship battles are dangerous because of their large number of firearms users. There are different ways of dealing with them. First, boost your pierce AR. The right armor can help a lot. If you have a druid in the party, have them cast woodskin on your party. It's a fast cast and the +5 pierce AR will really help. If you have a chanter, have them cast Killers Froze Stiff. It works well on the pirates as they tend to be rogues and have low will def. Also, if you've earned any Berath's Blessings points, the Infamous Captian blessing works wonders with ship battles. If you are able to terrify half the enemy crew at the start of battle, you'll receive a less overwhelming opening volley, and will have more room to maneuver and buff. Lastly, a priest can cast Watchful Presence, which provides automatic emergency healing to whomever the volley focuses on, preventing that character from being knocked out. This is a great but somewhat under appreciated spell that I like to cast before any dangerous battle.

  9. you do realize Gromnir seeming to be a "know-it-all" does not in any way preclude the recognition o' your lack o' knowledge, yes? you spout off 'bout issues you obvious have extreme limited knowledge concerning and then make broad generalizations relying on what you so clear do not know or misrepresent. Gromnir's elitism is relevant to such a flaw in what way? don't blame us for your lack o' knowledge. instead, given your newfound awareness there is a possibility some know-it-all elitist is gonna challenge your absence o' facts or support when you make a generalization or posit a conclusion, maybe first do the work and educate self instead. this way, instead o' complaining when persons highlight your error or ignorance, you may instead have a knowledgeable response. again, notice you ain't defending the notion there has been an absence o' american generals o' integrity since civil war. your complaint is 'bout Gromnir. reflect for a moment and you are gonna see how such a response does not make you appear less ignorant. you posit an extreme example, but once again am observing there is a difference 'tween rightness and requirements o' being a general in the US military. the decisions milley made is purposeful taken outta the hands o' the military leadership and given over to civilian authority. can't have generals ignoring civilian commanders, even if is the right thing to do. again, is possible to be moral right and ethic wrong. as such am seeing no conflict in the recognition that if allegations is true, it is appropriate to fire milley and even to kick him outta the military while at the same time observing milley deserves to be applauded for resisting tyranny. HA! Good Fun!

  10. none since civil war? serious? am not surprised by your ignorance. immediate thought o' general william sharp who when he reluctant surrendered to the japenese, he refused to identify the identities o' his filipino soldiers to his captors. the general suffered torture until 1945 'cause o' his integrity and died short after final being rescued. hardly a solitary example from ww2. is also a fair number o' examples o' post civil war american generals and admirals who were punished for speaking truth to power, which isn't too surprising 'cause is a notoriously american thing to do. doing the right thing is often the hard choice because it exposes the righteous man/woman to legit punishment. have mentioned previous, but is a poor kept secret o' the criminal defense bar that a noteworthy % o' "anonymous tips" which lead to capture/prosecution o' criminals is lawyers calling the police to provide info regarding their clients or the associates o' said clients. ethics violation. if is info gained via privilege and is 'bout past crime, then is verboten for an attorney to divulge info. more rare than the anonymous call to authorities is the lawyer who public shares info with the Court or cops. so imagine a situation where 'cause o' police error, a criminal is about to have murder charges dropped. it happens. exclusionary rule here in the US is a bit o' an outlier as we not only punish cops for failure, but we allow the guilty to avoid justice when cops, prosecutors or judges make mistakes. so, knowing her client is about to be set free 'cause o' some kinda fruit of the poisonous tree fail, a lawyer tells the court 'bout the additional three adolescents his client killed and dumped in a new jersey landfill, victims which the cops is unaware. is arguable the lawyer in our example did the moral thing by communicating with the authorities. even so, the lawyer should lose her license to practice law. what milley did were unethical and consequences is appropriate. assuming the allegations regarding milley in the book is true, am reassured by the knowledge the general chose to protect the nation even if it meant sacrificing his career to do so, but such a recognition does not mean milley should go unpunished. september 28 testimony will be... interesting. HA! Good Fun!

  11. Malignant I'm generally not a fan of horror, not straight horror, anyway. There are exceptions, of course, I liked Alien, for example, but it's generally not my genre. Horror comedy, on the other hand, I can get down with. Malignant has been marketed as a straight horror, hence I paid no attention to it. Then the HitB on it came out suggesting it was a horror comedy and it was on HBOMax, which I have, so I gave it a spin. 10/10 Movie of the Year. I'm still not completely sure whether the comedy was intentional, I think it was. I don't think Warner Brothers was in on the joke, I can't fathom how they would have greenlit something this ridiculous had they known what it was. This is either the most misguided attempt to make a horror movie in recent history or the most brilliant troll job in recent history, take your pick. Either way what we are left with is one of the funniest movies I have seen in long time not made by Neil Breen. The best part is that they sort of play it straight for a decent chunk of the film, but then it goes off the rails. I'm not talking simply going off the rails, I'm talking about the train careening off the rails, falling off a giant cliff, crashing into a hospital full of orphaned children, catching the entire building on fire, then exploding in a way that would make Michael Bay jealous. The 3rd act is so unbelievably, wonderfully over the top ridiculous... *chef kiss* Magnifique!

  13. Australia is going to build new nuclear submarines after an agreement with the US and UK on tech transfer. Hopefully they'll at least be as meme worthy as their previous effort, the Collins class. Not quite the massive leap that the media is making it out to be either, since it shows that the attempts to turn 5eyes into a military alliance instead of just an intelligence sharing one have failed. Ironically, while it would have been a very long shot to get NZ into any alliance post Rainbow Warrior anyway the reason Canada isn't there is almost certainly because the US would have to give Canada the same nuke sub tech, and they don't want to. Best moment: Joe Biden completely forgetting Scott Morrison's name and having to refer to Boris and '... ... that guy from downunder... the.. .. Prime Minister'.

  15. In the past two months, I've spent a lot of hours coming up with a concept and variations of it for a project at work. Countless meetings and time spent writing documentation, messaging back and forth with the entire team. Hours upon hours of work. Yesterday we presented the options and costs to the management. For a while it was really touch and go, and then... we went all out, argued with all we had and then... management cancelled it.

  17. Loosing enchanting means loosing a lots of small buff, especially DAoM which basically allows you to do MORE STUFF. Loosing conjuration means loosing summon. Loosing evocation means loosing the ultimate Tier 9 AoEs... etc... It's not just about loosing a couple of cheese, I think. In addition there is this slight recovery penalty... Not much but adds up. That's why having bad special abilities feel wrong. But here we face a very subjective line between what is good, what could have been better and what is meh (and my perception is very influenced by what I've modded...), so... Ancestor's Memory from a Cipher buddy is the key here. Restoring a spell up to Tier 9 every 6s is kind of broken but it is the strongest uses of pure casters for long battles. But yes, it requires party support, from a class specialized in long battles. The key issue there is that (Mega)bosses battles are just poorly balanced compared to the rest of the game, in that they heavily favor a couple of classes (Chanters, support Ciphers) or subclasses (Blood Mage and Tactician) with infinite ressource.

  18. Yeah, really. Actually it's not that hard, this forum's copy and paste function is as neurotic as the posts are once you try to BB-Code your way through it. However, every now and then that really has an advantage, you just need to copy and paste Amenteps really helpful "last few post" things. So everything's fine, just as long as that is in there. I won't break up the post but rathre in one block though. Sort of. This software was a travesty before the upgrade, and that only made it worse. I don't know, I guess Mozilla makes Obsidian's forums. Yes, that's what I called Kamui the entire time. I guess my posts about X were as memorable as the anime is for a regular viewer. My posts about Crystal were more fun than that picture. Perhaps... except for the screenshots I posted because I couldn't believe what was going on. Yeah. I think... I posted Hotaru's plug crystal experience twice. I think you may have a point there. Captain of the guard: Indeed, it's about as silly as the idea that she can fight off five grown men. I've accepted that, and luckily, as of episode five the court fight is over. Marie Antoinette talked to the countess and is really unhappy about that. I wonder how much difference there is between being sold to the prince of France and selling yourself to the king for favors, I mean, she's really unhappy about having to talk to a (former) prostitute. K-On! - yes, job very well done, actually. I'm looking forward to the movie actually, I'm hoping they did something interesting with the movie budget. Maybe... in some parallel universe that might briefly overlap with this one you'll try it too. There's still the possibility that the first season will scare you off. CCS talk:

  19. yeah i only call out specific spells if i think there's some very interesting to discuss, or something not obvious, both good or bad. un-listed spells may very well be good (or bad), just not as interesting to talk about. though actually the -all defenses stacking with the other stuff is interesting (and is only a relatively recent discovery, along with the chanter fear invocation that does the same thing) so maybe it's worth an update to include shining beacon in.

  21. i would kindly argue that it's not even a case of "meh => still good". For whatever restrictions any subclass has, bonus stacking PL is such a rare gift that I'll happily take it. Even Transmutation, which gets the lamest subclass bonus, I'll happily take +2 PL to things like slicken, pull of eora, petrification. Enchantment is probably the closest to borderline because of how most of its spells benefit weakly from +2 PL, but even then there's enough stuff I like spamming at +2 PL that I'll happily take it (it also has a pretty decent subclass bonus). you obviously lose out on some cheese options depending on the school (e.g. losing conjuration=>lose wall of draining), but i'm not sure how strongly to weight that when evaluating subclasses. (e.g. blood mage loses out on least unstable coil shenanigans but is still extremely powerful)

  22. Thought Gamedec was out yesterday but guess it's today. Caesar 3 is almost done, using Warehouses to route food around is unsightly but is working well enough. Seems warehouses do not need roads when "Getting Goods" though, so that is something interesting to learn about a game 22 years late. Also left my beloved Brno in FM18, for Arsenal. Who are 17th. And have signed strikers who are mediocre all earning 150k a week. Was funny when I let the AI manage them against my Brno team and Brno beat them 4-0. Might just go back to my old save

  23. Tales of Arise - bought it. First 2-3 hours is a long set-up. After that you feel like the gameplay actually starts. Five hours in doing simple early story and side missions. Dialogues (English VA) are sometimes so ... cheesy? over the top, shouty, dramatic? ... that I snorted good-naturedly several times. I hear it becomes better/more significant later. Very linear. Wandering maps/dungeons are so far small but serviceable. That arena combat becomes a little annoying as a system - the constant am-walking but then interrupted feeling - but at least "mobs" are quick even without being a master of timing dodging or artes. I hear some bosses are tough - but I always have Wemod if I get old-fart stuck. Haha. Kind of feels like a cross between a virtual novel (with the storyboard like dialogue method for some of them) and an action-rpg. Silly as some of them are, I'm actually rather enjoying the party dialogue bits, whether while out and about or during campfires - the back and forth. Haven't skipped any yet. Graphics are pretty charming/decent overall, it's like anime and Borderlands had a baby. Anyway, enjoying it as a light romp, like I thought I would.

  24. I think the Internet is mostly unfair about Conjurers. There is even a glitch that causes the familiar bonus to last forever, if it lasts its total duration or (not sure) if another thing is summoned. +1 stackable PL is a super rare bonus. Enchanters, Illusionists and Transmuters are really meh in my opinion. Which doesn't help Wiz subclasses is that one of them is OP (bloody blood picker). Bloodmages OP Base Wiz and Evokers balanced Conjurer is balanced because an anti synergy and a glitch Transmuters, Illusionists and Enchanters are meh. Wizard as a whole is a super solid class, so even the meh choices are good enough.

  25. I assume that's code for X's protagonist? You're the one that watched it and made the rest of us indirectly experience it with you. For your grave sins, you must face the music, . You know, now that you mention it, being the commander of the guard tasked with protecting Marie Antoinette at age 14 doesn't seem quite right to me... K-On: Sounds like a job well done by the show, methinks, . Sakura stuff:

  27. loooooooooooool you definitely wandered into a high-level area. you should be proud of your survival! yeah the eotans have a chanter that can chant a robust inspiration to everyone, IIRC .super annoying. in one of my ultimate practice runs, i got some bad luck on a megaboss named belranga. if you don't know, the megaboss has impossibly high defenses, and to bring them down you have to kill baby spiders she keeps summoning - but as her defenses go down her power and speed increase. she also has an attack that knocks your character down and drains them for some health. i didn't have enough damage, and i killed too many baby spiders, so that i reached a point where i'd get her closer to death, but then she'd bite me and heal an enormous amount of health back up. even though i could never die with my game, it was functionally a failure, because i could also never kill her, and the ultimate means you can't just alt-f4 the game (you're supposed to record your entire run if you want official credit), so i had to just fail the run. you better believe i planned for that better in the next attempts...

  28. Eh, indeed, good thing the actual show doesn't look like the poster. I'll keep it in mind, although I'm pretty swamped already. So maybe sometime next year? No, why. I already... forgot. I... you know what's the worst bit of it, apart from Eternal, Season three is the best looking of Sailor Moon Crystal. During the first few episode of season three I was almost happy to see THAT. Almost. Until everyone became face splitting alien shapeshifters after the first episode. Not even Setsuna could save that mess. Never thought I'd say that, the second season might be the weakest in terms of plot, more disjointed than the others, strange, wrong, terribly animated and downright disgusting at times, but Pluto was probably the best thing in all of Sailor Moon Crystal. Black Moon arc Pluto is the only thing in Crystal that's actually better than in the original 90ies anime. And that's really mostly because Chibi-Usa is much more likable at the expense of Usagi and Pluto is her surrogate mother. I liked her enough that even her silly "secretly loves Endymion" plot point didn't bother me. Episode four continues the epic struggle between the Countess du Barry and Marie Antoinette. The episode blurb and preview of the next one promises an end to that silly feud. Anyway, a serving wench ends up being poisoned by the countess in order to pin the crime on Marie Antoinette or her handmaiden, Lady Asuka's mother. Asuka shows up and threatens bloody murder in case the countess attempts to involve her or her family in her petty struggles again. Sword drawn and pointed. My, my. Not sure, but Emo McEdgelordface was a better protagonist. Episode six will be set after a three year time lapse. Maybe that'll help. If not, then there's only the change of directors that'll happen in episode 18 to look forward to. The anime isn't bad by any means, it's just... not very enticing either. Yes, sort of, but not quite a retelling. In a way the repetitive nature of the show and the film are meditative, and the episodes - as well as the film, I guess - are a bit like koans. I can't say that I'm into Eastern philosophy any more than I like Western one. For me, the question "What is the sound of one hand clapping?*" is essentially the same nonsense as "If a tree falls over in the forest and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" and completely irrelevant. Insofar it also really doesn't matter what, say, Tokiko really is in terms of the setting. She comes and goes as she likes, and ages, unlike anyone else at the academy. There probably isn't a logical solution, she was just there to make you abandon your preconeived notions, and to find an answer in a spiritual way, as a sudden enlightenment, spontaneous and aside from logic and reason. *Probably the most well known koan. There are "better" ones, but hey... *shrug*

  30. With Potion of Elevation, you'll have Legendary+ Quality fists for important fights. Fists are good pure DPS weapon and Fist + Tuotilio's is good middle way between dual wielding and Sword & Board. So Fists are quite viable, with of course some backup situational weapon. Swords are nice to cover all type of damages. I'm thinking about Mowdyr with Griffin Blade or a shield.

  35. I completed the game once on veteran, then started PoTD. However I found my class choice kinda too passive and boring (herald). So I rerolled - and said - **** it! Went straight for triple crown. I just wanted to share that... it is very, VERY, heartpounding and exiting playing like this! I wouldn't advice anyone to try this their first playthrough - that would surely be a disaster. But if you know EVERYTHING inside out, it would also take away this sense of adrenaline. So if anyone here is also kinda new to Deadfire I really recommend trying triple crown after just 1 regular playthrough, if time is a luxury you have. Even having played through the game once I've hade several instances of my heart racing by overextending.
