Got gold in the RT3 1848 scenario at last. Got lucky with having good credit and low rates and just spammed bonds to open up Prussia, still not entirely sure how best to handle express freight but that is the money maker, did spoke and hubs sort of. That scenario being only silver on my list has been over my head for 18 years2 points

Well, story is a big case of "your mileage may vary". I thought the main story was pretty darn good, just frayed a bit at the endings (imho) because they really wanted to set it up for continuation in a certain way instead of taking it to its logical conclusion. Most of the characters are also very well done, and believable, with motivations that make sense based on what you know about them. An example is the way Jackie, which presents like a typical "mr cool", handles the stress when you're on The Heist. Annoyed the hell out of me, but it was very ... human in a way I feel most characters in The Witcher lack. I'm not generally a fan of having a voiced character, but I have to admit that in this case the voiced main character really helps to put some emotion in some moments that would likely lack such otherwise (at least with the female voice). Will be interesting to see how the male voice does (wasn't too fond of it at first, hence why I started with the female one) The way the game handles choice & consequence is also very well executed, in the sense that it is, in the majority of circumstances, unnoticeable. Many quests have consequences based on how, or even if you do them, but in many cases you'll never notice unless you happen to do something differently (or in a different order) on another playthrough (or because you redo things differently because...bugs ) as many of these consequences can be subtle, and only visible a long way down the road. Many of the side jobs, for example, lead to different results in other side jobs based simply on whether you go non-lethal or lethal (eg. murder everyone, and their friends in a future job won't be amenable to talking, while otherwise you wouldn't have had to fight in said future job, for example. Of course, you could be doing them in a different order, and not even notice the possible interaction at all) There are of course choices that have obvious repercussions, but then again, some things that would seem like they'd obviously have repercussions, don't. Like ... The majority of quests also don't have an obvious good/best outcome. There's quite a few (most?) where you get to pick between bad, and worse. But which is which is then often debatable. Hell, in some of them arguably not getting involved is the better outcome. The main story is fairly linear, but in a way that didn't feel forced. The circumstances are just created in such a way that you don't really have a choice (which I prefer over artificially taking choice away). Though depending on your actions you will only have access to a subset of endings and there will be variations in how you actually get there (and how they play out). It's also well shorter, but a lot more focused than Witcher 3's story. If you really rush it you can probably be done with CP2077 in a very short amount of time. I wouldn't have minded the main quest chain being longer, as long as it didn't meander like Witcher 3's. Think I'd honestly have preferred more substantial (optional) side content (and more interaction between blocks, see later) over a longer main questline for CP2077. And yeah, they didn't want to lock people out of any endings, so you can basically pick whichever one you want as long as you meet the conditions (I think there's only 2 endings, out of five, that are not missable though). I didn't particularly mind this approach (but, as mentioned, I do have reservations about how some of them play out) Where I do take some issue with the game is how there's basically three "content blocks": there's the main story (intertwined with Johnny's), there's the love interests, and there's "the city" (side quests, NCPD call signs, etc). A fourth is, imho, missing for "V's friends", most of which have really nothing to say, or do, after their "part" is played (since there's only really 2 people, outside of the ones already mentioned, that know "what's up", that's a bit of a shame, but I digress). And fwiw I'm referring to: The problem I have with these "blocks" is that they don't really interact , they feel like entirely separate entities, that are very well done in their own right, but only overlap at very well defined points (if at all). The further into the game I got the more noticeable this became. There's not really any points where helping someone in a side quest ("city"-block) impacts how the main quest goes (not even in minor ways), and vice-versa: for the main quest "the city" feels like just a backdrop. Moreover none of the (possible) LIs ever comment on any of the (major) side quests either (for some of them, like Johnny's, that's a serious bummer), or hell most barely even comment on your "situation". As for gameplay, there's still ways to get around, I got double jump rather late and am seriously regretting that choice. Managed to get into some interesting places with it. But yes, combat is extremely unbalanced, especially hacking ends up being killer since there's not really any level scaling, so if you are level capped before starting the final quests there's not really any challenge to be found (the only reason I didn't one shot the "big bad" was because he has an invulnerability phase). Only way you can die is if some enemy sniper gets lucky with a critical head shot, and that probably wouldn't even happen if some of the attributes actually worked (some of the defensive attributes apparently just don't work). Crafting is also broken as hell in a few ways, on one end you can create stupendously overpowered gear (especially weapons), on the other hand it's ridiculously expensive to upgrade early game gear to keep it relevant in the endgame. So you're sometimes better of trying to do certain things as late as possible, just to avoid the upgrade costs. Not exactly desirable imho (not that you need any of that gear to get by, at least on normal) Another thing that's brought up constantly is the "police system". I played as a mercenary, not a petty thief or a lunatic, and I triggered it not even 5 times in 130hours. There honestly is no reason to ever steal vehicles from innocents at all, aside from "because I can", since you can summon yours whenever, and wherever, and if you can't, there's gangs all over with vehicles that you can grab without repercussions. The focus on this system by gamers, and reviewers alike is a bit baffling (well, CDPR promised, but still), game's not GTA and at this point I feel they would have been better off not adding a police system at all just to get rid of all the GTA comparisons. Now, granted, if actually using cars you'll probably end up killing innocents all over since driving (which is only sort of tolerable with a controller), and traffic AI, suck. The simplest workaround I found is to just use a motorcycle. You get one of the best ones in the game for free early on anyway and it bypasses the majority of the issues with traffic. Stealth, well, I put 3 points in "Cool" (aka Stealth) and managed to sneak my way through pretty much everything with that and a high hacking skill. Can't say I minded, but wouldn't call it balanced Still, the technical, and gameplay, issues are likely to get worked out, the story related stuff, much less likely. Welp, that became a tad longer than I intended (and there's a load more I could cover, but, err, let's not ). Imho the game's nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be, and in a lot better shape (at least on PC) than many prior games games that didn't receive this level of flak (looking at you, Fallout: New Vegas), if nothing else I do hope CDPR continues down this road, fixing up the obvious issues (bugs, broken mechanics, balacing) but leaving the things that do work alone (c&c, storytelling,...)2 points

When hostile effects expire on your character. Note Forbidden Curse you get when you use Forbidden Fist also counts as a hostile effect. As does the small DoT the Talons inflict you with. Later on you can also get a lot of Wounds from Parting Sorrow (also triggers when an enemy you're engaging dies...). About Cipher subclass... depends on your taste, I guess. All have pros. Well, I guess a Psion is ill suited for close combat. Personally I like Ascendant the most. Also because it has the highest Focus cap and can stay at max Focus for longer periods, even when actively using powers. And Seeker's Fang rapier does a mini Disintegration-like DoT on crit with damage scaling off current Focus... Certainly one of my favorite weapons, particularly on a Transcendent.2 points

For us here it's been spiralling out of control for a while, with the zero interest policy of the ECB housing has become a prime investment with very little risk attatched, because even if the bubble bursts at some point, banks are too big to fail anyway. So when Hurlshot talks about a modest home he can't afford that is actually just as expensive a a similar house here, and you factor in the average income difference, then...1 point

Main issue with CP was that its not RPG at all. Otherwise its decent city shooter. And I was expecting RPG1 point

Yeah that's about the size of the house we rented near Morgan Hill. It was a nice size for us. I miss that house, rental or not. Sigh.1 point

1300 square feet. This isn't Texas. The 2000-3000 square foot houses around here are well over a million. Everything new is built in the 2000 square foot range, so there is also very little inventory under a million and they are all older.1 point

145 Hours, I have finished Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children. As the first DLC is already out, the ending credits merged into the opening credits of Troubleshooter: Banished Children. I think I'll start that tomorrow though.1 point

reposted here in the proper thread, sorry for previous hiccup I'd like to start a list of useful items primary for no priest subclass/no pure wizard builds using item switching to prolong beneficial effect duration out of combat ( strand of favor, cabalist's gambeson arcane extension, ooblit pet...), please add to the list if you find relevant missing things. Note: a way to trigger watcher blooded state out of combat is using double necklace of fireballs on self, just pay attention when vela is moving around also, any unguent can be easily prolonged for +2 skill death's maw death runes? (within 5m of a killed enemy grants -15% incoming damage for 10 sec) not tested yet, may be not so easy to prolong protective eothasian charm darkest before dawn (+5 health per 3.0 sec over 12 sec, damage reduced by -25% for 12 sec on near death), risky but good to prolong resounding call call to arms (Destroying a destructible grants tenacious 12.0 sec), not super easy to prolong but doable and definitely great to have scordeo's trophy opening barrage (stacking -5% recovery time), you can get very good recovery time just with this one before scordeo's edge wahai poraga at blades reach -20% Melee Damage Received for 2.0 sec on launching attack (hit vela) bardatto's luxury death and taxes: hardy on unconscious ally, not hard to trigger on combat and can be prolonged out of combat as it lasts long bardatto's luxury grace: not sure but in theory you could be able to prolong the +3 health per 6 sec, harder though as starting duration is very low devil of caroc breastplate devil's due +2 health restored per 3.0 sec for 6.0 sec on critical hit with weapons (hit vela) scordeo's edge adaptive (+2 Accuracy with all weapons for 30.0 sec on scoring Hit, stacks 10 times, easy to prolong as long lasting scordeo's edge blade cascade (ignore recovery for 5.0 sec on scoring hit, use it on vela) griffin's blade loyal companion: steadfast on blooded, not so easy to prolong permanently but useful as alternative to no pity for the lost watcher ability necklace of the harvest moon midnight wish (Friendly AoE: +8 health, +10 defenses for 15.0 sec per 3.0 sec, not tested yet) necklace of the harvest moon midnight wish (yearly reap -5% Recovery Time for 6.0 sec on crit), hit vela with blunderbuss chromoprismatic quarterstaff elemental induction (+15% Damage for 10.0 sec when hit with https://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Kalakoth's_Minor_Blights It is both spell and item. Spell summons wand which has absolutely ridiculous stats + hit in AOE + each enemy hit by this AOE trigger blast talent AOE providing even more interlaping AOE. It's not anything too special in term of build. - too little things needed to make it work(basically 3 spells and high int and might). From spells you'll require Infuse with Vital Essence on tier 2 spells, Deleterious Alacrity of Motion and Kalakoth's Minor Blights on tier lvl 3 and thats close to it. Feel free to experiment with other. Citzal's Martial Power also really great with this build but I prefer my wizard not to loose casting ability. Apart from that Wizards in PoE can learn spells from other grimoires so feel free to experiment. out of 4*8=24 different spells you can prepare for encounter to make kalakoth's blight user you need just 3/4. Feel free to fill other slots with chill fog and other CC stuff. Setup CC, Summon blights, autoattack till it time to renew CC Ciphers are generally CC. It does not interact as cipher need to do damage to recharge himself. Essentially you have two mods - damage dealing charging, and CC casting1 point

There's one thing about Sailor Stars that I find exceedingly strange now that I can properly recognize it (past me was only vaguely aware of the reference at the time). Music usage: And speaking of references, the first episode of the 10th season of the new Doctor Who drew some of its imagery from Sailor Stars' opening filler story. Or at least there's an awful lot of coincidences to go around if that wasn't inspired in any way. This is fun.1 point

It is already decent choise. It just not made of cheese anymore as previously you literally did nothing and got focus. Now you have to hit someone to generate focus But why don't you try to make some build for cipher based upon what you want in your party? Yeah, I've learned to pretty much not care about the main plot at all for this show (although as you said, S definitely got me a little more interested compared to the other seasons, especially since it was more good-character-driven and less neurotic-villains-driven...plus, The Professor is actually a pretty funny dude - still as ineffective as ever, of course, but definitely funnier and more personable). I've been forced to watch Sailor Speed (uh, what I've been calling Speed Racer because I have too much Sailor Moon on the brain) the last couple of days instead, so no progress made unfortunately. And on that note, Speed Racer has been...uh, not very good, but "not very good" in a sort of funny "what the absolute hell is wrong with this show" sort of way, so it remains entertaining. Well, until this last episode that we watched, episode 5, which was so unforgivably and inexplicably terrible, absolutely nothing happened the entire episode...until there were only literally about 2 minutes left in the episode and like a hundred freaking goons on motorcycles (each individual goon had their own motorcycle) all came pouring out of one single flying helicopter (yes, just one, and yes, it was currently flying) one-by-one and literally started bouncing off of mountain-sides and crap while landing. I think my brain broke because I just started absolutely howling with laughter, and I really didn't stop laughing for like literally another ten minutes after it ended. It was like a programming error, where a value gets so low and then gets decremented past its minimum and then loops around to the maximum - the episode was so unbelievably awful and somehow managed to get just a little bit more awful and suddenly became the funniest thing I'd ever seen.1 point

Valheim I kinda like the art style. It's not quite low poly... medium poly, if there's such a thing, but all the textures are pixelated up close. There are some really great depth of field effects. The game can look stunning at times. My first real base of operations: This is all very basic stuff. Supposedly the stuff you can craft in this game later on is pretty bonkers. I'm sure it will be quite a while until I get anything fancy looking. Fun fact: I have died 3 times so far, all 3 were death by tree. Unlike in other games, when you chop a tree down it doesn't just burst into particles and disappear, it falls over. It will damage you, or anything else it hits on the way down, including other trees. I had one rather amusing debacle where I was on a hill and the tree trunk fell as such that it began rolling down the hill at me and I was Prometheus running away from it.1 point

Thanks for the advice! Yes, I have tried many builds, but this is my first time trying a stealth build. You're right, you really can dish out jaw dropping damage when attacking from stealth on an already afflicted mob. And thanks for the explanation of how you make use of scrolls of withdrawal. I can see that it makes sense to use them after casting a ticking scroll. I was wondering why you recommended their use, and now I see why. Thanks.1 point

It really isn't a slog if you are interested in other characters. In fact some of the best parts of the series happen in those 4? books (people usually moan about winter's heart and crossroads of twilight, first time I see crown of swords and path of daggers mentioned). Also I really have a gripe with people saying Sanderson revitalized the series...He got to write the climax of the story, of course it was going to be faster passed and more action packed... Anyways I do recommend you going for it, I can't wait to go back for another re-read. On a separate note, read through Hellboy over the weekend (do we do comic books here?). Didn't read the "spin-off" books (not really spin-offs, they just follow other characters in the same timeline) but I did finish the main story and the ending funnily enough reminded me of Wheel of Time. Really good Comic, give it a warm recommendation.1 point

Good old Recep Tayyip Erdogan going a bit mental at everyone having completely asterisked up a hostage rescue operation*. It's everyone's fault apart from his, especially his domestic Kurdish political enemies and the US. Probably Gulen, Israel, Iraq, students, gays, Syrian refugees, Greece, Armenia and Iran too. Coincidentally Turkey's economy is going down the gurgler as the funny money fiscal policy and building bubble burst, and he's getting publicly bent over by China over vaccine supply and being forced to abandon support for the Uighurs, not exactly a great look for someone who has tried to make themself the poster child for pan Turkism (despite Erdogan being ethnic Georgian, not Turkic, himself). Ultimately that's the problem with using military adventurism to boost popularity artificially- it's temporary, so you have to do it semi constantly with diminishing returns; and if things don't work out as you want it has the reverse effect and you lose popularity. He'll probably try and ban the domestic Kurdish party soon, though overall that shouldn't have too much effect since HDP voters will 99% go for CHP over the pro Erdogan alternatives. *while the headline says the victims were civilians, as claimed by Turkey, they were definitely non civilian police and army personnel. And there are a lot of rumours that the hostages were not executed but died either in a drone strike or during fighting. After all they had been held long term without execution prior to this.1 point

The Fire Godlike race was mostly because of thematical reasons. You can take about anything, it doesn't really matter. Moon Godlike would def. work and is also good on a Barb in the early game since Barbs will often struggle with knockouts in the early game (it will get a lot better with some levels) - Silver Tide will help here. But human, orland, dwarf, aumaua - anything goes really.1 point

It makes me feel really sad & old that the person wrote "that guy from Pink Floyd" rather than "David Gilmour" so that people would get the reference.1 point

I haven't tried this exact combo but in my experience bounce/multiple projectiles lose the Assassinate bonus as soon as you break stealth. Your first Eld Nary crit from stealth will still be pretty strong though!1 point

Interesting. I just tested this and Assassinate works perfectly well with Killing Bolt, as the Blightheart lash and any other DMG goodie I have. By the way, to your earlier point about Minoletta's PPB: it can reach a PEN of 33 on crit with Assassinate, potentially more. Guaranteed overpen on all enemies with up to 16 pierce AR, which means more DMG and more lash from Blightheart. EDIT: Actually with Crusted Swordfish you can reach 36 PEN with Minoletta PPB! I just got the overpen bonus on Ikorno who was at Pierce AR = 18. Cool!1 point

Most Forbidden Fist builds are good. And Sages (Monk/Wizard) are always fun - especially the combination of Spirit Lance + Monk's attack abilites like Stunning Surge or Force of Anguish. Spirit Lance + Swift Flurry can also be lots of fun. Forbidden Fist/Cipher has even better synergy though - imo. Forbidden Fist + Psychovampiric Shield + Disintegrate is very good against some of the Megabosses, especially the Big Ooze. Paladin with Bloodmage is always good because Lay on Hands (and also Exalted Endurance) are great ways to couter the damage of Blood Sacrifice. And the highly stacked defenses are great, too. Fighter with Bloodmage can be really fun because Spirit Lance + Clear Out is like a melee explosion.1 point

My wife and I have been coming to terms with the fact we might not be able to buy a house where we live. The last couple years we have been working hard at paying down any and all debt. It is a long story how we got ourselves in debt, and it took a good decade to do it, but with another year we should have all credit cards and cars zeroed out. That is the good news. The bad news is we really haven't saved anything. We've been aggressively paying down the debt, but setting money aside has been very difficult. So we need to figure out how to create a down payment. Then you look at the market where we live, and that seems like an insurmountable sum. A modest townhome goes for $800k. That means just to scratch the bare minimum of 5% down, we need $40k. We talked to a retirement specialist the other day, because I had the bright idea of borrowing from out 457b or 403b. The specialist literally said, "Why would you buy in this market. It is too high! Wait and buy low!" This is great advice, even though I know she is also trying to make sure we don't lower our contributions, but it is tough advice when we need a place to live. You might say, why not move? Teachers have a lot of trouble changing school districts, particularly late in the career. If we retire in 15 years, we both get about 68% of our income from all of our year contributing to the state retirement system. That is great. Leaving our schools would hurt that. So we need to tough it out. We also love our town. So we rent a modest house for $3100 a month, which is the average rent in our town. But we only have another year or so before they develop the land we are on, so we need to move. Which means jumping into a rental market that looks like this: https://www.towncharts.com/California/Housing/Morgan-Hill-city-CA-Housing-data.html So yeah, it is ugly renting. Part of me wants to buy a nice cabin in the woods a few hours away. They are literally a quarter of the price. We can rent a dump for the next decade and spend weekends and summers there. But that is probably more of a daydream. Anyways, just venting as I process all this.1 point

Where I live has bad infrastructure by american standards. We've been without power for 13 hours now and I just got phone service 20 minutes ago.0 points

Our infrastructure isn't built to handle it (and is in general ****) so when it happens it's devastating. Our internet is down now and we're likely going to have blackouts throughout the rest of the storm.0 points
