  1. It's old news, but ... Paul Rudd can do no wrong. (King of Wishful Thinking is still my fave tho) Edit: I can't believe he's 50.

  2. Btw @Jill7894, as a RTwP fan you should also keep your eyes on two games that will/may be releasing in 2020: The Dark Eye: Book of Heroes; and, Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness.

  3. I just finished my first play through. Awesome experience, by the way! I wanted to comment on the unresolved plot line of what happened to the Earth. I read online various theories, that generally agreed that the lack of replies from Earth, the missing frigate, and the decreasing frequency of interstellar freighters meant that Earth was destroyed somehow. I’m thinking that these theories seem a bit deus ex machina and not quite in keeping with the focus of the plotting on the corporate misrule of Halcyon, as opposed to some sort of mysterious off screen apocalypse. It seems that applying Occam’s Razor to the problem of Earth may work best: whatever government or colonial authority now rules on Earth simply cut off Halcyon, writing off the colony, seized the missing frigate and wrote off their investment and all the people there. The gradual reduction in shipping reported on the Groundbreaker could simply reflect the diminishing value of trade and quality of goods the colony was producing. After all, what self respecting merchant wants to spend years traveling to a failing colony to sell stuff to broke people who only have toxic fake Saltuna to give in trade? Earth would’ve figured out by the time of the game that the HHC Chairman had deposed and detained or killed its legate and was sending fake news and fraudulent reports back in his name. Returning traders and maybe spies would’ve reported the horrific and failing conditions in Halcyon. They probably even figured out that the colony would soon starve, and they may even have deduced the HHC’s genocidal master plan. The “missing” frigate could’ve arrived safely on Earth, made irrational demands in HHC’s name and just gotten themselves arrested and charged with crimes against humanity, for supporting the HHC regime. The cost of sending an invasion force to attempt to retake a failing colony ruled by a madman, and enough aid to make a difference, would likely be politically prohibitive, especially given the “loss” of hundreds of thousands with the disappearance of the Hope, a couple generations earlier, so writing off the colony might be the most politically expedient thing to do. There was a bit on one of Groundbreaker side missions about communications from Earth being encrypted, before they just ceased several months before the game begins, which appears to support such a political, instead of an apocalyptic, theory. Also, word of an apocalypse on Earth would’ve reached other, better off, colonies that are hinted at, and interstellar shipping and communications from those other colonies would’ve related that news or even rumors to Groundbreaker. The idea that Earth wasn’t destroyed, but just so disgusted and indifferent toward its “lost” colony of Halcyon that it decided to abandon it within bothering to tell them, just ghosting them, would fit best with the world building bleakness of the Halcyon setting, I think. So, yea, I’m guessing that Earth wasn’t destroyed. It just doesn’t care.

  7. Wayyyy more immersive and I completely understand what you mean when you say it's an actual battle. For instance, with RTwP the typical combat experience my party may run into could be relatively short depending on how well I'm playing it, but when an epic battle pops off it feels very natural. The first time I took on the Kraken in POE 2, it took, idk, at least 10 minutes to beat him and I was soooo excited and happy once I did. The feeling I get after an epic battle with RTwP reminds me of how I feel when I beat a boss in Dark Souls - like I want to jump up (and a lot of times I do) in enthusiasm and excitement. I don't like how turn-based makes things artificially long and drawn out and by the time I'm done with a turn based battle, I might get some excitement, but overall I'm just relieved it's over with so that I no longer have to wait in suspense to see if the enemy is going to pull some crap that screws me over and makes me have to redo everything while I have no control of my forces. I like having that consistent control over my party and I believe that RTwP is better perhaps for people who want to be more aggressive in combat. It seems like turn based, with it's forced pauses between your instances of control, degrades the utility of aggression and quick thinking in many of its capacities. Some of my favorite games outside of cRPGs are games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Nioh so it's probably a given that I prefer the utility of aggression and quick thinking. Plus, I'm not a patient person and sitting around waiting for my turn feels quite redundant. Anyways, so far I've gotten Spellforce 3 (it's supposedly longer than Soul Harvest so I'm starting with this one first) and Tower of Time.

  8. RTwP (and without it) is way more immersive. It's an actual battle. It's the legendary showdown in which the dragon thrashed, wailed and fell. TB is transmogrified Chess. By no means do I refute your arguments for why people might prefer TB. I agree with them, but this is what heavily tips the scales for me. It's also why I wished for (with little hope of it coming true) battle replays back in Pillars 1. Note that this video is not me hiding the UI and letting the AI play, by the way. I had autopause for completed actions, at which point I turned the UI on, gave an order and turned it off. It wasn't fun to edit that video, and you can see I got a bit lazy in the end

  9. I bought the game at launch, and for the first few days that I was playing it, my ps4 was not connected to the internet. When I finally connected to the internet, I updated the game to ver. 1.01. But when I tried to load my manual save game or any of the autosaves after the update, I got the error code E-B51D0002. I looked this error code up on Playstation's support site, but I couldn't find it anywhere. The only save that would load was a system save from when you first leave the Emerald Vale. I tried reinstalling the game and launching it on ver. 1.00, but when I tried to load my saves, nothing would happen. No error would appear, the game would just stay at the main menu. When I tried to load the system save, I would get an error and a prompt to update the game to the latest version in order to fix the error. Would appreciate any help with this, I'd logged about 20 hours into the game and I'd rather not have to start all over

  14. Because you'll have to think ahead. Not have the superpower of reacting immediately to everything. The player already is able to see everything, thanks to his elevated point of view. But of course, this is also a question of taste and I didn't mean for it to be the default game mode, just an option.

  15. How is that the best of both worlds? To me that sounds the opposite, the worst of both worlds. Automatic pause is not a good idea: I want the game to pause when I say, and not be unpausable at any time.

  17. Just wait. Water cooling is about to be replaced. https://www.overclock.net/forum/246-air-cooling/1738546-icegiant-prosiphon-elite.html To be released just in time for the new Intel CPU's. Which is great because now I don't have to buy a new case with a 360mm radiator slot on the top. The drawback though being this massive block crowding up my case lol. Also as far as keeping your cpu cool, your motherboard matters significantly. Spending a little more on a decent board you can lower the voltage to get better temps.

  21. Which is why the work of the Öls Lady at the botânical lab was so remarcable: she accomplished something amazing, against the odds. The Board or one of the companies should have invested on her, instead none knows About ir, Even the leader of the old , nearby Town, Edgewater. Sophie Even Wants the Captain to obliterate the City, killing everione, because of the famine in fully ignoring that she had found the Solution. I was frustrated because I have Given the Control of Edgewater to the old Lady, But had no was to convince Sophie to See what she had done.

  22. Bwah hah hah hah -- yes, I should have said "banked up good with with everyone BUT the Board". In total agreement! As for Eva, I can't kill her. What she wants to do is just too interesting & compelling. But Tartarus came with all kinds of surprises, especially for the Better Half, who basically just killed everyone and was totally on his own. He was surprised by how my version of the story went. I, of course, was absolutely delighted. "Grimmy!!!"

  23. Tried quitting smoking again. Can't say I'm pleased with it. Not because I'm mad craving a smoke or anything but now I am developing that condescending attitude where smokers smell and seem filthy when I was just literally there a day ago. *sigh* it's a no-win.

  24. Well, Reed Tobson is a corporation man, so working for another corporation should perhaps not be a problem for him as he would in the long run not have to answer to the Board anymore. SubLight are more interested in getting the job done than filling quotas. When it comes to pissing off factions (no matter what character, as I'm not gonna play evil) I'm really only interested in annoying the Board If you've finished the SubLight questline and killed Eva Chartrand, you'll have an extra treat from SubLight coming up at Tartarus!

  25. To be honest, I would not want to see a Fallout/TOW crossover ever, unless Bethesda clean up their act a bit by getting themselves some decent writers (and of course cease with the Fo 76 folly). Should you start with playing Fo4 and then work your way backwards, you'll soon enough find that they're only recycling old ideas, even ripping off themselves. Btw, the creators of Fo 1 and 2 went on to Obsidian. Just saying... Don't mention it. Will finish my 6th playthrough tonight and... What do you think, should I start on a 7th?

  26. It was the best thing about the Beth ones. Though not redeeming enough for me to play FO4. Just as radio was what made Vice City so great.

  28. I really sympathize. That was a tough one. I managed to make it (eventually) by sprinting and jumping, but I had to save after each successful jump. One time, I came down a ladder and automatically backed off of it to my doom. I'm glad you made it!

  34. I have two. One from Mandate of Heaven. Spanish guitar. Hauntingly beautiful. Another from Planescape: Torment. Nothing proclaims your love for someone you got killed more than melancholy music. I'll limit myself to two, but I could easily put in all sorts of games in here. There's a commercial out right now that sounds just like a beautiful song from Sunless Seas.

  35. That depends on the damage bonuses you can stack. Since lashes are multiplicative damage bonuses they work better and better the more damage your physical attack does. But Scion of Flame and the others will only add 5% to the lash damage. So you would have to stack a lot of dmg bonuses so that Scion of Flame for a lash only gets better than let's say Two Handed Style. Example: plain Great Sword with 10 MIG and burning lash against 0 DR 17 slash + (17 * 0.25) = 4.25 burn. 17 + 4.25 = 21.25 With Scion of Flame 17 slash + (17 * 0.3) = 5.1 burn. 17 + 5.1 = 22.1 Now instead Scion of Flame I'll take Two Weapon Style: 17 slash * (1+0.15) = 19.55 slash + (19.55 * 0.25) = 4.89 burn. 19.55 + 4.89 = 24.44 The difference is 2.34 - Two Handed Style is clearly better. Now let's assume we have a fighter with 18 MIG, Weapon Spec and Mastery + Savage Attack and an exceptional weapon: 17 slash * (1+0.24+0.15+0.1+0.2+0.3) = 33.83 slash + (33.83 * 0.25) = 8.46 burn. 33.83 + 8.46 = 42.29 With Scion of Flame 17 slash * (1+0.24+0.15+0.1+0.2+0.3) = 33.83 slash + (33.83 * 0.3) = 10.15 burn. 33.83 + 10.15 = 43.98 With Two Weapon Style 17 slash * (1+0.24+0.15+0.1+0.2+0.3+0,15) = 36.38 slash + (36.38 * 0.25) = 9.1 burn. 36.38 + 9.1 = 45.48 The difference is 1.5. Two Weapon Style is still better but the gap closes (keep in mind this is vs. 0 DR) Now the same fighter with a superb weapon - and he does a crit: 17 slash * (1+0.24+0.15+0.1+0.2+0.45+0.5) = 44.88 slash + (44.88 * 0.25) = 11.22 burn. 44.88 + 11.22 = 56.1 With Scion of Flame 17 slash * (1+0.24+0.15+0.1+0.2+0.45+0.5+0.15) = 44.88 slash + (44.88 * 0.3) = 13,46 burn. 44.88 + 13,46 = 58.34 With Two Weapon Style 17 slash * (1+0.24+0.15+0.1+0.2+0.45+0.5+0.15) = 47.43 slash + (47.43 * 0,25) = 11.86 burn. 47.43 + 11.86 = 59.29 The difference is 0.95. You can see that at some point Scion of Flame would be better than Two Handed Style, but it's a long way. Maybe for a rogue it's more benefical to choose Scion of Flame instead of a base damage bonus like Two Handed Style at some point. But you always have to remember that lashes have to overcome 1/4 of enemies' DR and that means that the higher the DR the worse the bonus of Scion of FLame is compared to Two Handed Style. For classes with only few damage bonuses I thik it's save to say that they are better off with a base damage bonus than with a 5% lash increase. Of course it's best if you can do both. If you have a level up - and no base damgage bonus talents left - you can take an elemental talent and boost your damge further.
    1 point
  36. For a rogue I'd say definitely. Let's say you made a swing and rolled 50 preDR damage. Without talent: - you deal: [50 - targetedDR] + (50 - lashDR)/4 With talent: - you deal: [50 - targetedDR] + (1.25 * 50 - lashDR)/4 If we assume that targeted by lash DR is the same as the one targeted by weapon, and: - [DR=0]: 62.5 => 65.625 | i.e. 5% increase - [DR=10]: 50 => 53.125 | i.e. 6.25% increase - [DR=20]: 37.5 => 40.625 | i.e. 8.33% increase - [DR=50]: 10 (min) => 13.125 | i.e. 31.25% increase - [DR=65]: 10 (min) => 10.000 | i.e. 0% increase > The good thing: elemental talents boost your lash which is a multiplicative bonus damage, and if you have a high enough damage coefficient has potential to result in higher damage increase than let's say from ApprenticeSneakAttack talent. > The bad thing: elemental lash does not deal 'min' damage and can be completely mitigated by DR (and afaik lash also does not benefit from DR bypass stuff) (although so far as you are attacking low-DR targets you are good)
