I made some tuna salad for lunch and have short ribs in the slow cooker for dinner. Dinner last night was cream of wheat but my wife made it with ghee so it had a slight oddness to it that I kinda dug. I bought some stuff to make ramen tomorrow or who knows when because my MiL wants to make meatballs some time soon too. She's not a bad cook but leans really heavily on tomato and dill on pretty much anything she can. I dunno if that's just her quirk or a regional thing.I won't say it's bland sometimes but rather the flavors in her dishes generally very light. That's not a bad thing on its own because I really like to mix it up but it's every dish and sometimes I just want a little more flavor.2 points

Because I for some reason always prefer to play caster classes in all of my computer games as main characters, I have tried this also for Souls Games, but because of the achievements, I have later made my character more into hybrid class. Pure caster is very, very viable in Demon's Souls, if you have time and will to farm spices I have combined it with Moon Flachion when I needed mana regeneration, and pretty good in Dark Souls 1, but IMO, because of the limited number of spells you can learn. I have combined it with high dexterity, to be able to wield Uchigatana, because of its bleeding property. But there are some crazy glass cannon builds for experts, which I've never tried which can almost one-shot everything. Check this thread maybe to learn more about magic in Souls: https://www.giantbomb.com/forums/dark-souls-6255/sorcery-or-how-i-learned-to-stop-worrying-and-love-533893/2 points

Yes, I'm telling you finding 20 (25 if we're still rounding up to 10 mil) guys with the ability to get the equivalent of 2 home loans (for my area) and are financially secure enough to take out such a loan to become co-owners of a mine is incredibly unlikely. Same as above. Is this middle sized coal mine financed in Poland you've used as an example owned by a business with capital reserves by any chance? That's 10-40x the car loans I took out, and at least half of what I would need for an ok house in my area. If that's your idea of a regular cash loan then you have no understanding of working/middle class financial situations.2 points

Heh. Weird as it may be, seeing my posts from outside my profile made me realize how dumb it all looks. Time for a timeout. Thanks.2 points

A lot of revival or "core" gamer franchises seem to have struggled with achieving sales with their sequels. Look at Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Wolfenstein: The New Colossus, and Dishonored 2. While those games are not necessarily CRPGs, they all reviewed relatively well, and I suspect they all targeted a similar demographic to PoE and Deadfire. Sure, you have some closer analogies with P:KM and D:OS 2, but the higher sales of those games were not predicted, and they simply demonstrate the unpredictability of the market especially when you look at the former examples. So yeah, sales expectations may have been higher for Deadfire based off of PoE's market performance, but what I am more interested in is what project the owners at Obsidian think they could have done instead of Deadfire that would have achieved better guaranteed sales. Commercial success is a fickle thing, and I think agonizing over one entry's less than stellar but profitable market performance is a bit goofy. Look at the Elder Scrolls, which also started out as a literal D&D derivative product. If I recall correctly, Daggerfall was a modest commercial success, but I believe both Battlespire and Redguard bombed in terms of sales. Well, the subsequent entry, Morrowind, for good or ill had incredible sales, perhaps due to a captive console market that was hungry for any RPG experience, but it nonetheless had the same folks behind it who made the previous commercial failures. If I were in Obsidian's position, I would just try to figure out what the strengths of Deadfire were, lean into them, while at the same time evolving the presentation to of those strengths to reach a broader audience. Maybe that means prioritizing turn-based gameplay to make the game more accessible to the console market, or perhaps it means something more drastic.2 points

That was a lot closer a game than it should have been given that the Lions had a back up QB and that they're a bad team to begin with. Still, a win is a win. I'll take it. Now I find myself in the uncomfortable position of rooting for the Pats. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. Give me a second to compose myself... ... Anyway, I could go for an Iggles loss, so go Pats, I guess... Oh God, it's coming up again.1 point

Yes I always make it a point to shoot for upper middle class rigs. The last time I spent several grand on a PC the thing got outflanked in both price and performance within a few months. Going midrange was wary at first but when I discovered I could play Prey on max with 75fps on a several hundred dollar PC I became a mid-ranger for life. Anyway just upgraded to get ready and carry me through 2020 16 gigs Ram core i5-9600k Radeon RX 57001 point

How will the patch be distributed to Microsoft Store (XGP) customers? Will the Xbox app patch the game? Microsoft Store? Windows Update?1 point

It might be a while. My PS4 is acting up and there's no data yet on how the game runs on Linux via Proton nor a native version. Also, reports are the performance on PC is rough right now. I'll give it a minimum of a couple months, if I get it at all.1 point

I have many, many problems with this game but I never felt like it was particularly short or anything. Of course, I didn't expect anything like NV or any other open world game because... well, they said that's not what it was going to be beforehand. Good length for a game as far as I'm concerned.1 point

And I won't lie, the first 6 or 7 levels on Terra were a nightmare. I only had one companion, and had to do the "ship travel save" every time I met more than 3 enemies. But once I had Max and did some side quests on Groundbreaker, started tinkering, it really took off. Now I just turn the two of them loose and sometimes never fire a shot. I just manage their focus fire and watch their health while they mop up. It's great for someone like me, who is a terrible shot!1 point

Franky, no changes and/or compremises should have to be made solely because in in 2019, the company that makes the game can't add proper support. I have a gsync monitor which i should be able to use in game at 3440x1440. Borderless has its own issues by dropping performance. utilising borderless with the FOV up as high as possible still makes it look zoomed and horrid to play. I've given up with the useless support they offer and i've uninstalled and requested a refund. There smaller devs out there who are more deserving of my $ and have the ability to support widescreen (Which really isn't that much a of a minority these days) properly.1 point

I think you are on to something, though I don’t think the blame is purely on the audience not being able to accept what PoE truly is. While I love those games to death, to some degree they always rang false to me. While trying to fulfill expectations one might have from IE games I don’t think they are truly free to pursue their own goals. Brilliance of Baldur’s Gates was that the player progression and RPG systems where smartly tied to the overarching narrative: you are a son of Bhaal and death follows you. No matter if you want to be good or evil you kill a lot of stuff, fulfilling the prophecy and your role. You kill Sarevok because you are a better murderer then he. As you near to having a shot in claiming the throne, you become more powerful, killing more and more powerful stuff. While mostly a pulpy adventure, there is a subversive cleverness in the story, which simply makes it all work. All better Bioware game do this: KOTOR, Jade Empire, all manage to tie your growth with the story of the game. Obsidian also leaned into this one multiple occasions. PoE, unlike so many post-BG RPGs, doesn’t follow this arc, but still has the gameplay. We kill stuff in hundreds, grow in power and move from killing wolfs and boars to mythic creatures. Yet, little of it is acknowledged in the narrative. There is some stuff in the lore (souls growing stronger etc.) but none of it is related to the main game. I would say that character growth happens purely in game space, and isn’t really acknowledge by game’s world. I do like that mere mortal can’t challenge a God. But that expectation isn’t challenged by the game either. Expectations are there: both because of tradition and existing gameplay systems, but the game doesn’t even acknowledge such possibility. The problem isn’t that we can’t challenge Eothas, but that after 20 levels and major in-game growth, game refuses to respond to it.1 point

Only the employee will be without a job (and at risk of exposure), but the employer can just keep offering the same **** conditions to more candidates, until one accepts, as provided by the reserve army of labour. Do you live in a parallel universe or something where demand for jobs is lower than offer? Because in most of the developed world, it's the other way around. Seriously, it's hard to have a conversation on this topic when you don't even have the basics such as structural unemployment and underemployment rates down. No, Bezos isn't going to be "out of a job" in any sense of the word because he can close shop tomorrow and walk away without ever having to work again, unlike his workers. And no, they weren't protesting to get more comfy chairs, they were striking to get basic working conditions, such as air conditioning in warehouses with temperatures higher than 35 ºC where physical work is done. Wew lad. Is it customary in Poland to exploit your "friends" and steal the fruits of their labor (when not their wages outright) when you give them food and shelter? You have the gist of it, though. The job is the only thing protecting your friend from exposure, and therefore the power relationship between you and your employee friend is NOT equal. As I said. No, that's just goalpost shifting that you need to do so that the whole thing doesn't crumble (as much). First it was that the system rewards hard work. Only it obviously doesn't, so it was redefined as "smart work". But only those who cross an arbitrary profit threshold apparently know how to do that. Their success is explained by "working smart" by those who don't want to look too closely, and the process of becoming successful is described as "smart work". In short, they are successful because they succeeded, not because they worked hard. It's circular logic, it's nonsense. It's a meaningless buzzword. Hold up. I thought we just established that you don't need to work hard to make billions, just smart. But now you're giving me this sob story about how tough it is to be a billionaire and likening it to the sacrifice and mental and physical fortitude required to be a professional athlete. Which one is it going to be, this page? Anyway, yeah. I'm not so convinced after you suggested that it should be easy to get a $100k loan for a co-op mine together with another 79 have-nots because you can apparently get a mine running for $10M now, and then somehow forgot that operating costs are a thing from day 0, unlike revenue. I'm not getting the "smart" work vibe here at all.1 point

This is to update obsidian on this issue. I play on PC, not XBOX, and I still get this very same crash. I have Parvati and Vicor Max as my party members at the time. I used my z command to send the companions into the camera room ahead of me, but that did not trigger a crash. Only my character entering the door way triggered the crash. My GPU is a GTX 970 made by ASUS. My CPU is an INTEL Core i7 4770. This report is from Nov 13 2019.1 point

Your hero Bozos has made his fortune by ****ing over his workers, as evidenced by the reports that have surfaced of appalling working conditions inside Amazon, which have led to strikes. He's also abused his dominant market share to strong-arm competitors in what used to be known in a more civilized age as unfair competition -- others such as Google and Microsoft have been hit with billions in fines for comparable practices. He's abused patents and infringed on trademarks. He's consistently dodged taxes (something which Uber is also guilty of) while simultaneously leaning on the state to cover some of his labor costs. But that's all fine and dandy, because as you say, that IS the system*. Indeed, a system designed to privatize profits and socialize losses. To **** over the underclass and redistribute wealth upwards. It takes a special kind of obtuseness to act so surprised when said underclass take a break in their daily bending over after years of getting the raw end of the deal to start discussing "socialism", the meaningless tag that gets slapped on anything that remotely considers upsetting the balance. The irony is that the "socialism" on offer within the system is anything but and is powerless to change anything because it's just another product controlled by their employers -- one that is as vapid, pointless and devoid of substance as the rest of their lineup. *and of course, TAXES ARE THEFT!!111 point

Yeah. That is why the wealthiest people in the world are also the hardest working. We all know that blacks working mines for 14 hours a day extracting coltan at gunpoint in some ****hole own 80% of the world's wealth, right? Oh, wait, no. It's actually worthless ****s that either inherited most of what they have, learned to game or outright cheat the system to **** everyone else over, or a combination of both. But, I mean, you're literally going full Gordon Gekko here. So that's probably covered under some twisted version of social darwinism, too. ****, I don't even want to know. And I was doing so well ignoring this thread...1 point

The whole romance in games seems a bit off for me. I guess if want a sex scene in a game, the only way to it is on a Unicorn like the the Witcher 3 lol. Really though what does it for me in games in the continually growing of relationships with good characters, being a friends or potential romance. I think that's where a game can shine, and most don't really do it well. To have you almost feel good or bad to what happens to game character.....which is just 1 and 0's. I think Outer Worlds is only 'ok' with this, with one exception. Parvoti. I think it's her innocent view of the world and gee shucks attitude. It's not romantic at all, like a bigger brother or father daughter attitude. As for there being a romance with ADA, she's too hot for SAM. Not gunna happen.1 point
-
Honestly, I'm extremely refreshed after playing TOW and seeing the lack of romance options. It makes the characters feel more like characters to me, and it lets me focus purely on the interactions with them and the kinds of people they all are, as well as lends them a sense of independence and agency. The characters don't feel like they're obligated to fall in love with you just because you're the super special main character. It makes it feel more like you're just some dude/chick doing their own thing in the world and in fact really aren't special at all aside from being a popsicle for a bit. I'm not necessarily opposed to the idea of having romance options in the game, but they have to be handled delicately and done right, and I mean no offense when I say this, but Obsidian has a record of not really doing the romance stuff in a justifiable and believable manner. I absolutely don't blame them for that because it requires a pretty heavy degree of writing and build up to accomplish this, and considering they tend to make shorter games designed to be replayed, it makes sense. Even if they did, romance is a complex subject to replicate within the confines of a game. Think about how dynamic and complex real romantic relationships can be - it simply does not translate that well into a system that has to follow defined rules like video games unless you forgo a lot of things for the writing to accommodate it, like some Visual Novels tend to do. I think they were able to do a reasonably good job depicting romance in a real sense with Parvati and her quest though, but it required the player to be a spectator to work. You get to see the all the doubt, anxiety, etc that goes into falling for a person, and there's even a bit of a minor speedbump in the road when Junlei mentions another girl to Parvati. That combined with it taking the whole quest line for them to finally get together makes it feel a lot more realistic. People take time to build connections like that, and that probably is even more so the case in the setting of TOW. Parvati's companion quest takes forever, and requires you to more than likely be nearing the final stretch of the game (I'm aware you can get to Byzantium and Monarch's towns pretty early, but you're still limited by things like bits and such to make it there and complete her companion quest).1 point

can always use more prunes. kidding. sweeter wine might not be an ideal choice 'cause the sugar is added in part to take edge off the acidity from the wine. if cane sugar is problematic, you can turn golden raisins into a paste. maybe thin the paste with your wine before adding. won't affect the aesthetic o' the dish and you get natural sugar with a mild additional flavor which should be complimentary. HA! Good Fun! ps if you like the bite from the wine and vinegar, then ignore our suggestion.1 point

I read the interview, and by no (I mean really zilch) means one can deduct that Baldur's Gate 3 "is guaranteed to be TB [turn based]." So, making that "absolutely not RTwP/guaranteed TB" statement is only a shot in the dark. So, so dark... and the mist... oh, the mist. And the blindfold, too! However, one interesting thing in the interview is this: "'Systemic' is the in-house word. If it’s not systemic, it doesn’t go in." This is kind of the opposite of the Baldur's Gate mechanics. The older versions of D&D weren't very systemic. Actually they are quite terrible in that regard (if you want to read a very anti-systemic P&P ruleset you should buy the earlier version of the Dark Eye rulesets, ouf!). Still most people liked them (I guess). PoE was more systemic than the old IE games but less systemic than Deadfire - which made a huge step forward in that regard. Then D:OS I and II are more systemic than Deadfire. I personally am a big fan of a thorough systemic approach - no woder if one considers my professional background as a software engineer. But that's not all that matters in a game (else I would prefer D:OS over PoE which is not the case). I don't know how systemic D&D 5th edition is (never read it) but I wonder if a highly systemic approach might clash with the (formerly) bitty D&D ruleset(s) and the fond memories players might have. A complaint one can often read here in the forums (about PoEI and II) is the systemic attribute system. MIG does always raise dmg and healing no matter if it's spell or sword, INT does always enlarge your AoE no matter spell or Carnage and so on. Also the fact that spellcasting follows the same rules as attacking with weapons and so on and so forth. They wish for special rules so their XY character feels special. Some players think that channeling a spell through the same attack resolution as a attack from a sword is "unrealistic" (really) or it does break their immersion. They want special cases and solutions for everything. That might be understandable - but that is the opposite of a systemic approach. Because all those special cases and rules will make it impossible to add new stuff in a way that it all works neatly together. It's a software developer's nightmare. You may be able to create more "cool" or "realistic" effects, but at the same time you are making a big mess that's harder to maintain, to fix and to test while it also makes developing additions like DLCs a lot harder as well as introducing new developers to the team. Vincke also said that they"'ve taken a lot of creative risks, more than people will expect." I wonder if those creative risks and a very systemic BG3 will clash hard with D&D grognards' nostalgia. And if they do clash, if that will even have any noticable impact on the sales numbers - since D:OS I and II are very different from D&D but have way more players than there are nostalgia-clinging D&D grognards.1 point

@dava4444 I would rather if those fantasies remained in your private OW session, and weren’t to appear in mine. Sounds a bit too much like ME3 romance between Joker and EDI. What started as a cute and clever idea in ME2, turned into embarrassing fanfic ship-of-love farse. I certainly wouldn’t want to see “romance with a computer” forced upon players. It is roleplaying game, and if you find it would fit for your captain to get physically and emotionally attached to his ship, then fine, but there is no one defined “Captain”. This is something I will touch on more, in another thread once I gather my thoughts, but my hope is that with OW2 we will get Fallout2 route: current generation will pass and we will play a new character. slides at to the end are rather final. Nothing about this game screams like it needs a direct sequel.1 point
-
We can't have romances, because romances take time and manpower, and companions are on basic side as it is. ADA isn't a conscious being. That's been stated multiple times. She emulates personality but she is a computer. Previous captain developed her personality so it's a bit as if you were to program Ciri on how she interacts with you. She just continues her behaviour. If you want to roleplay a character who takes it as a serious relationship, then knock yourself out.1 point

Have tried a few things to get this going with no luck. I tried getting the key from Dr. Williams' corpse in the graveyard to maybe kick off the Passion Pills quest. No go. Tried hacking the terminal, again no go. Tried to pickpocket the journal from Nyoka but it's really effing hard not to get caught (came very close once, got her inventory open but was caught before I could take it, haven't been able to replicate it since). No guarantees it would even work though. I know killing her and taking the journal will advance the quest but obviously you lose her as a companion, and people apparently have been able to continue just by going to Devil's Peak, again missing out on her as a companion. Neither of those options are acceptable to me.1 point

I am having the same issue. Would rather not load an old save since I've done several sidequests since talking to Nyoka, not realizing I didn't get the new quest.1 point

I'm in the same boat on the Xbox. I can't progress past this point in the game last save prior is 4hr. Can't even force the quest to progress by going without Nyoka.1 point

Well, at least it's finally done. Did finally get the stupid KVM switchbox to work but it seems finicky with KB/mouse. I'll have to use it a week or so and see if it remains stable. Speaking of wire management, the case was fairly good with that but the amount of wires in and out of the switchbox all over the desk etc. is a hellish nightmare and that's only a 2-port. I may not be all that picky about such but I'll have to figure out something to at least make it a bit more manageable. I still really dislike RGB/neon so I'm glad any of that forced on me is barely visible from my deskchair. The Gigabyte BIOS menus really aren't that bad, just different/have to learn them.1 point

I know it is not possible in the base game.
