Something else to take into account is what a company considers successful. I remember laughing audibly when I heard that Square Enix thought one of the Tomb Raider games was a failure despite selling millions of units. Obviously Square Enix is not Obsidian but it's important to remember that the number sold doesn't mean the same thing. Not that Obsidian wouldn't want to sell ten million copies mind you.

I agree. Making your own character remember terrible things sounds like a great debuff.

There's also a mod on the Nexus that allows you to not take damage when you ram the other ship upon immediately seeing it. You just go straight to physical combat. You no longer really need to fight ship to ship anymore. You do of course have to win the physical confrontation. You can still get your ass beat there.

Vela is a druggie.

Who among us has not given drugs to children? This is the most important decision you can make in Deadfire. -
I think it's important to have a more diverse voice set if your world is larger (Obviously.) Even small distances can have on effect on how people speak. I laud the decision to have a wide array of voices. Xoti for instance is a warm surprise. Hearing some of that good old southern drawl is a very refreshing inclusion!

Seeing as the first game had a plot that involves children being stillborn Pillars 2 would have had to have really gone out of it's way to be darker. Compared to the first game there are obvious dark spots but the overarching everything feels a lot less grim. I mean they could gone full out on the cheese after Eothas destroyed the keep though. Punished Eder, A Farmer Denied his Homeland.

I believe one of the criticisms that Josh wanted to address in a big way was the criticism that the first game had way too many trash fights. After a while fighting hordes of enemies becomes inane. If you are going to fight, it should be more impactful and meaningful. I mean if you're just running around beating everything you can over the head combat would eventually become a chore rather than a necessary feature. At least in my mind. Fighting endless beetles and spiders is just not my idea of a good time!

Josh stated that the first game was built directly upon nostalgia which is why so many elements of it are right out of the Infinity Engine games. Pillars 2 is not that. This feels, at least to me, like one of those "Damned if you do, damned if you don't" sort of deals. If Obsidian had simply retread ground again we'd all be complaining that it was just Pillars Redux/Remix. With this scenario Obsidian can do an entirely new environment. And as mentioned above islands don't really mesh with the whole "Evil Dungeon Lair" all too well.

Speaking only for myself I would rather Obsidian release DLC down the line with all the fixings than just shoot stuff out of a cannon with yet more content while the core issues remain unresolved. The DLC as far as I know is also not complete so it hasn't been cut out to be sold for parts. Sawyer isn't even directing it.

Fisto's alive!

His hands are even bigger this time. There won't be anything left of you! -
The most amazing thing about it is that it's such a simple thing. It's a really great immersion thing that makes me smile. But most importantly it tells me that I'm not a terrible captain!

I don't see why this is even a thing if you're aren't in any way required to use it to play on PotD?

I'll be happy to contribute in any which way I can regarding the wiki. How all of you wish to go about that is up to you but if you need any assistance I'll gladly do so. Things like raw lore may not be my thing but I can assist mostly with references to culture (Real and Pop). I realize that's a minuscule contribution but if I find anything of note I'll disclose it (If that's what the community wishes.) Of course I'll provide receipts for said information.

Only thing I'm waiting for is the import bug to be fixed. I've have no problems outside of that. New Vegas by contrast had a bug in the beginning that completely disabled the Y Axis for the entire save. Oh and if you were on PS3 it had a memory leak that cause saves to balloon in size to the point that the game was unplayable after a certain amount of time. Deadfire, by contrast is a minor inconvenience for me.

Steam reviews? Why on Earth would you take them seriously? People give positive or negative reviews for petty things and even when the person did like the game the review is quite often, ostensibly, a ****post. It's one thing to have a legitimate problems with a game but Steam just doesn't leave much room for anything other than GOOD or BAD. I very much understand the intent but it's just not a reliable system because of this.

Is that normal?
Big-Ben replied to Wormerine's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yes that happened to me. I had the "Fig Backer Ultimate Edtion" and now it isn't there. Concerning obvviously. But we have receipts so I imagine it won't be an issue having this fixed!
