  2. am gonna suggest is a bit more complicated. russia's kleptocracy inevitable results in practical troop strength being overestimated as divisions is rare anywhere near full strength from a western pov. also, putin put his undertrained and poorly equipped army in a less than ideal situation from the get go. nevertheless, in spite o' the monumental charlie fox which were the russian invasion o' ukraine, strategic goals were not outta reach until considerable time had elapsed, at which point morale o' troops predictable dropped and discipline eroded. should recall when this all started there were more than a few board pundits predicting ukraine wouldn't last a week, which is likely what russia was hoping to see. RAIDING AND INTERNATIONAL BRIGANDRY: RUSSIA’S STRATEGY FOR GREAT POWER COMPETITION Raiding is an effective riposte to a strong but distracted opponent, and becomes popular when the technologies of the time create a rift between the political objectives sought and the means available to attain them. This makes traditional forms of warfare too costly, too risky, or unsuitable to the goals desired. Raiding proved prevalent before the modern nation-state system was formed in 1648 and subsequently exported by Europeans to the rest of the world. is an article from 2018. sure, the combined arms operations for russia has been laughable, and is no excuse for such failures, but the russians is capable o' professionalism and discipline on the battlefield as long as one recognizes that one is speaking o' professional raiders and brigands. gorth has western expectations for how soldiers is 'posed to behave on the battlefield and for good reason as there is a whole lotta historical success attributed to well trained and disciplined western armies. the russian military is not embracing the same western traditions. in any event, is an interesting article especial given it were written before the ukraine invasion. HA! Good Fun!

  3. This would require rising their Burn AR to be higher than their Pierce AR. Could be both ------ Combining the suggestions made in this thread, I am inclined to make the following changes: remove elemental-weapon keywords that were added in CP.Keywords 2.0 give weapons that already have an elemental KW, phys/elem damage type as proposed by Noqn (and lower their PEN, if they had only 1 damage type before that) remove creature immunities vs elem keywords. And adjust their elem AR / immunity vs damage type accordingly. Thoughts?

  5. have read nothing save having seen a few headlines saying hasbro/wotc is pulling a darth vader and changing the deal am recalling years past when asked similar we observed/warned that the ogl didn't specify it were "irrevocable," which meant it was in all likelihood revocable at will. as such, the current meltdown has us conflicted as we feel a smidge smug 'bout being proven correct while also experiencing disgust that hasbro/wotc went and did it. and yeah, am a big proponent o' rule zero. we would prefer play than gm, but when we gm am invariably adding a bunch o' house rules and am making clear if we feel is necessary we will change rules on-the-fly. am also open to players suggesting changes if Gromnir homebrew prove unworkable, but rulez lawyering is kinda verboten with us... is exceptions when am thinking the results is clever and amusing w/o breaking the game. HA! Good Fun!

  6. Indeed, that's in combat with all the passive defenses procced and only the 2 active defenses I use: Llengrath's Safeguard and Infuse with VE. If you're using an Arcane Knight that wants to use Wall of Draining to extend short lived buffs, you can get all defenses in the 220-230 range (e.g. extending First to the Fight and Drawing Parry from Furrante's Breastplate and Duskfall). Effectively making you out of reach for anything under 150ACC. But in practice I realized, being in the 200s was enough and that sky-high AR was as or even more important. You actually face quite a few enemies with hard-hitting autohit abilities (Fampyrs, Librarians, Oracle of Wael...) - removing 80%+ of that damage is very good. You also face quite a few enemies that have over 150 ACC so you need to soak up that damage too. Only very few baddies have both very high ACC in the 140-150 range and PEN in the mid 20s (e.g. the ridiculous Monk in The Bloodletting SSS fight, his Skyward Kick hits at 26PEN and I assume, Crits at 39PEN...). I found that 200 All Def + 24 minimum AR + Regen from stealing enemy HP was as foolproof as it gets. I'll see if I can post a video later - indeed the fights are looong but at least you don't have to do anything, except occasionally use Brand Enemy or once in a while in boss fights cast Lay on Hands. I still finish all fights with half my Zeal, at least. Akola's Apex Ward is super easy to get early. Once out of Maje, go collect all the good sailors and the nice cannons at the Smithy in Brass Citadel. Sail around the map and sink ships for easy experience and to build crew experience high. Now you can take tough ships in boat fights and your char has gained a few levels. Go to Serpent's Crown, Takano's Estate and murder everyone. Now you have -3 Rep with Huana and can go sink the ship to get Akola. Then proceed with your questing and in no time your Huana rep is at +3. Undying Burden is a nice suggestion, however I think Eothen has more incremental impact here (+Fort and +HP) because of how inversions work in the game, as @thelee demonstrated in his Almanac and in various threads. DMG reduction is calculated as an inversion, so it's behaves like % negative effect reduction modifiers: when you already have 35 Resolve (or pushing anything in severe Underpen), additional modifiers won't make any difference. If I already have a -75% reduction, adding another -30/-50% will only put my total reduction around -80%. After that, no additional modifiers will have any significant impact. Boots of the White are looted in the first fight above the village in BoW, once you beat the Messenger the first time and get the icepicks to climb up. I personally like to play BPM because indeed I like the challenge of removing some of the most powerful cheese and still find a way to solo consistently. It removes the temptation to "regress to the average that works" and forces me to really think differently and streamline the builds. I find it's actually interesting because you end up having a lot of cheesy heuristics in this game, as in many others. Find X, then Z abilities, then use that over and over and be invulnerable... Using BPM breaks those habits. For instance, forcing yourself as a SC Mage to not proc Wall of Draining every single f****ing fight... helps me rediscover time and time again that you can have Wall of Many Colors active instead, often for even more impact (and definitely more fun IMO). This build above, I found it because of (or thanks to) BPM but it's actually more consistently powerful than my Wall of Draining Arcane Knight because it does always good, even when there is no good target to wall-of-drain. Just take longer and is less demonstrative. Everything changed in BPM is logged by @Elric Galad on Nexus (see below). Buffs and Nerfs can be implemented separately and also you can individually remove any buff/nerf or anything you want to not include in your game, while keeping the rest of the package. https://www.nexusmods.com/pillarsofeternity2/mods/438?tab=description

  7. Thanks for all answers, it really help! I decided to play as evoker, mostly because of that small chance to cast double spell, especially when i have all DLC so i should max lvl my character faster than in default edition i guess and get advantage of that tier 8/9 spells.

  8. I played quite a bit and enjoyed the additions to the nemesis system. It didn't feel grindy at all, but I also didn't finish it. I got a solid 30 hours of sneaking around and listening it sassy orcs. I felt it was better than the original. I didn't notice anything about lootboxes.

  9. I think most of the world came to the conclusion at the beginning of last year, that the Russian army is not made up of soldiers, but mostly just "armed medieval peasants" (as always, there are no absolutes and I'm sure they have the odd special forces or other actually military trained units). Which means, they don't fight as a cohesive force, they don't support each other and if something can be raped, pillaged or plundered for personal benefit, it takes priority.

  10. I can live with that. Probably not. It is hard to explain how groan-worthy the really terrible parts of Tamao Love Story were without the context of the series and the rest of the movie. The worst part about them was that the film was actually pretty great. I liked the characters, the 'plot' (surprisingly, it's a love story, who would have thought), it was thematically great in the way it was in juxtaposition to the events of the series when it comes to depicting Tamako's life as ever the same and suddenly there's a rush of change that she simply never truly perceived. The film is also really, really, really good with its scene composition. And then... then it goes and tries to tell the audience that Tamako is still completely oblivious, by telling her guy-best-friend who she is in love with but doesn't realize it yet (i.e. the entire plot of the film, then and there) that she ran into giant breats at the bath (complete with saying BOING when she does) and wondering if boobie shaped mochis would be a good idea and by grabbing her gal-best-friend's butt to feel if it would make a good shape for mochi rice cakes. Tamako's autistic friend (a character you'd probably love ) even narrates the latter by talking directly at the camera about how we can see the perverted mochi girl going for some fine ass. Well, not entirely in these words, but perverted was definitely a part of it. The breast part at least I could have lived with, to be honest. It's still strange to talk to Mochizō about it rather than to Midori, but if the aim is to show that Tamako is still not thinking about romantic and/or sexual topics in general, which is a huge stretch at her age in the film, but not impossible, then that would have worked. Touching Midori inappropriately in the light of Midori's unrequited love for Tamako is not only degrading to the character, it's downright hurtful for no good reason, and nothing really comes of it either. Overall I enjoyed the film, probably too much in light of that scene. It is such a stain on an otherwise great work. It made me like a romantic comedy, and that takes a lot. Sigh. The film's character models and designs came out of the same factoy as well.

  17. Thanks. Ray of Fire can be great for some time with Wall of Flame + Combusting Wounds along with Ring of Focused Flames and +Fire PL. But being an Evoker that's not relevant.
    1 point
  18. yeah, it works. i think i posted a build sometime a while back that if you just care about doing some fire nukes, this is the way to go. small correction: for evoker, it's a 15% chance for evoker to echo. too bad that Magran spell list "wastes" a few slots on non-evocation or useless evocation (like Flame Shield). So you mostly get Fan of Flames early on (Ray of Fire is a little underpowered imo, better than nothing) and then eventually Torrent of Flame (only one cast normally). At least you can bathe in the bath house to boost your Fan of Flames output. edit: IIRC for the build itself, it also stacks a ton of +fire and generic PL (i think i get up to +13 sustained), recommends champion's boon for the +2 PEN and might bonus, and salvation of time (which can also echo) to boost the bonus PL you get from using it with weyc's wand. the vithrack silk slippers also works with scrolls. i've only ever had it happen once, but i noticed it because i got a targeting indicator again with my cursor (!)

  19. Like I already said I expect to always do pierce damage... Personally I think weapons shouldn't magically pick the damage for the wielder. It is the wielder who should make a conscious choice and pick the best damage type based on the situation, which in these cases is pierce. This behaviour is addressed by the game with an algorithm based just on the resistances. There could be a debate why some monster have 0 burn AR... It is to make absorption vs the element more effective or it's a conscious choice to make weapons with dual damage ineffective vs them?

Funny enough I beat the mission, the TC starts rendering oddly when I tried to dock and then Iceman bought it colliding with the TC.

It's a beautiful film and ranks among the best things from 2022 for me but in your case.....one of the major characters is explicitly unlikeable and the development of Farrell's Padraic may turn you off. Maybe if you're in the mood for a tragedy.

  26. The English title Weathering With You is like literally in the next sentence, but I'll place it more prominently next time. I can get behind that. I guess I should put Your Name back on the watch list then. The story part of the film is less than half of it. The rest is mostly character building and interactions, which should be great, but somehow was not. It wasn't bad by any means, and I've certainly seen worse, but for every good moment there's something stupid. Then there are some moments of bizarre fanservice where Hodoka just stares at one of the female character's breasts until it is pointed out to him. It's sillier than usual because it's way, way out of place. Not that fanservice like that is every necessary in my opinion, but there's a time and place for it, and this film certainly is not. Much like the stupid boobery in Tamako Love Story, but at least Tamako Love Story tried to make it a story point - an unnecessary one, but a point at least. Here it's just random. Edit: The description was pretty barebones because there's not much to the film's plot, and descriptions of all the character interactions would have been really superflous. There's just not much more to say about it. It is perhaps the films biggest achievement, to never really be boring with so little going on. Well, little. There's Hodoka's friend and his attempts to gain custody of her daughter, which never really gets resolved properly other than a throw-away montage at the end, the friend's niece who works with Hodoka who is looking for a job but never finds one, uhm... yeah. It would be my kind of nothing happens if that nothing was more interesting.

  29. Totally! Had you seen the short video I put to the Thundercat build above that @Fab3686 added? Everything you state plus the super fast casting speed of Cat Form + Cat Flurry buff creates an exponential pulse damage/DoT mayhem, also because Infestation of Maggots + Combusting Wounds at the same time turbocharges all those ticks. It's one of the most fun things in the game IMO.

  31. sorry to triple-post, but just to add, probably the stupid-craziest thing you can do for DPS is wizard: combusting wounds (+ optionally arkemyr's wondrous torment to make it last longer on tough enemies) druid: all the various tick and hazard spells (wicked briars, venombloom, nature's terror, relentless storm, returning storm against single targets, and especially wall of thorns) you can easily end up doing 100s of damage per second, sustained. you'll literally see the health meter deplete in real time off of otherwise bullet-sponge-y bosses. you don't have to multiclass wizard/druid just to do this, but it does give it you to you in a nice easy package. (it also doesn't have to be druid, but druid has a lot of repetitive-strike spells)

  32. blood mage is certainly very generally powerful, but over time I've gotten to really appreciate the alpha strike potential of an empowered spell. you don't need resource regeneration if the fight is already over.
    1 point
  33. my two cents: druid is merely OK at dps early on and mid-game. their strength comes from versatility (healing) and the fact that a lot of their damage effects come with crowd control effects or debuffs. edit: their DoTs will do a lot of total damage, but won't hit the charts for dps if that's specifically what you want, and also won't be as relevant if you end fights quickly enough that they don't have a time to let their efficiency shine (and fights will end rather quickly on lower difficulties or once you eventually power-up and are able to roflstomp potd fights) Fury misses out on a lot of the versatility and make up for it with better range and being able to do consistent (if not high) damage. late game, a single-class DPS can explode through the roof as @Fab3686 says. Even Tornado, which is more of an off-meta pick, still does a stupid amount of damage in a huge area. a multi-class druid misses out on that so if you multi-class it'd better be because you want something other than damage. evoker is stupid-good at doing damage. it won't happen often, but echoing a tier 9 evocation spell is basically game-over for enemies in most fights. (i got lucky with an empowered minoletta's missile salvo that got echoed (non-empowered) against a boss in the final DLC and it single-handedly ended the fight right there) druid/wizard (in general) you'd be doing this to give you a good leg-up in spell-casting for early to mid-game. single-class characters run out of juice real fast, multi-class caster/caster can run marathons. if all you care about is spell damage, this falls off real hard at high levels due to missing out on tier 8 or tier 9 spells (from either class) can still be a powerful combination if your focus isn't just doing damage. (i did an animist/enchanter that would use wizard buff spells and druid firebrand and it was a lot of fun if not necessarily game-breakingly powerful)
    1 point
  34. I agree with @Fab3686 and would add that Evoker's power level bonus and small double casting chance can be seducing, but in practice I find that a vanilla Wizard or of course, a Blood Mage has more potential because a lot of very strong nukes aren't Evocation, and you might miss on those. You have other ways to stack power levels if you wish, an endgame Evoker vs endgame Blood Mage/Vanilla will be very close in raw nuking power, but the latter two will have a lot more flexibility and utility.

  35. Speaking only about damage dealing, Seeker's Fang with a Cipher is very strong against single foes, but WotW has so much potential - as long as there's more than one enemy - that it almost always takes the trophy imo. Especially in combination with Resonant Touch. Bit there's more than damage dealing. A Cipher/FF can charm and dominate rel. easily for a very, very long time (Lingering Echoes, +10 INT from Turning Wheel, +enfeeble) - after getting Instruments of Pain the Cipher/FF doesn't even have to get near the enemy anymore - and as I have said a lot in the past, mind control is one of the most impactful effects in the game. It's like creating a summon while at the same time taking an enemy off the battlefield. And being able to do that with replenishable resources just makes it even more impactful. So you turn three or four enemies and then even can summon two elemental monks on top (Dichotomous Soul)... And also very importantly: you can start doing impactful stuff right from lvl 1 on which adds fun imo. I personally like Beguiler/FF most - just because weapon damage isn't needed to gain focus and that's convenient - but you can still gain focus from weapon damage. In the unmodded game Forbidden Fist ability works as a spell and doesn't generate focus, that's another reason. I even tried Psion/FF and it works very well with the Community Patch mod if you concentrate on defense more (Tuotilo's Palm and so on). I wouldn't try that combo with the unmodded game. Cipher/FF is more versatile, fun to play early on and very strong overall. But if it's about pure martial prowess not much beats WotW+Resonant Touch.

  36. I have only just now learned of Hogwart's Legacy. I am not a Potter fan (did see all the movies, eventually, they were ok, only tried to read one of the books, not for me) so don't care about that aspect. But --I like that it's single-player only --I still enjoy the occasional open world and virtual tourism, if it's done well --I like that it's all wand and spells combat (no melee/swords etc) --Ever since Drakan: Order of the Flame and WoW, I like flying mounts, and the ones in this game look fantastic. --Taming pets/mounts in a personal yard or something? --I think eventually school friends can join as party members so not 100% a solo chr. game? --No micro transactions ... except that the extra stuff in the Deluxe version supposedly will be sold separately as a DLC? Not clear. Anyway...if it's too much like Skyrim type open world game, I would likely find it dull. But maybe it'll be a new openworld, virtual tourism, action-rpg that I could sink time into...or it'll be another hype-before-release that ends up as suck. hmm.

  37. yeah it's definitely about it being an alpha strike than anything else, and also for ~2 casters who can dump spells at the opening instead of just one ally getting support. once the fight goes on for a while, repeatable (and outside bpm, infinitely salvation-of-time-able) brilliant of course trumps everything. edit: and if you have the chanter with weyc's, then all of this breaks down into barely-differentiable cheese anyway, since an empowered resource-restoring invocation will also grant brilliant (and the chanter gets boosted phrases, which is kind of like brilliant)
    1 point
  38. Yes, it's nice with the right party, but a simple Ciper, even Multiclass can help a buddy casting a Missile Salvo or Maelstorm every 6s thanks to Ancestor's Memory. In certain cases (SC chanter + 4 SC spellcaster party) the SC Chanter can do better, especially as an opener, but I would consider the Cipher to be in the same league. Granted that BPM uses this particular invocation as a base of SC Chanter design (it regenerates 2 ressources / 2 spells of the same tier except chanter's - but it is basically the same for Tier 9 since this Tier only has 1 cast) while it nerfs Brilliant.

  39. Conversely, when you cast Confusion on enemies, it's like you're actively trying to waste a spell slot . Well to be fair, there is one enemy really worth Confusing, the giant grub-like miniboss near the end of SSS. Weakness to Intellect Affliction suddenly turns a somewhat useless spell into a super long duration AoE Charm. But you have to actively look for the few enemies weak to INT affliction in the game.

  40. yep after a while my rule of thumb became, don't use that tornado invocation in any fight with high-level kith wizards or fampyrs. they will use spell reflection, and even if the battlefield looks clear at the moment, the invocation bounces so slowly, they'll probably pop it up while it's in flight. i think Her Tears are area effects, technically, instead of projectiles. e.g. like rolling flame instead of necrotic lance. though this reminds me of the most ignominious party wipe i've ever done. empowered Her Tears, split-second before the invocation casting completed my skald got confused (don't remember, but i think it was one of those high level shadow-type creatures that can do that). of course my party was clustered next to each other, that was a ton of damage in an instant that instantly wiped out everyone (incl chanter from the smaller additional shards upon impact) and killed Vela, to boot. never had a fight go so quickly from "absolutely winning" to "instant loss" so quickly.

  41. First off amazing game from the beginning to this day has been amazing and the support you give to the community is incredible. For the building blueprints I have had a few different discussions about maybe adding glass walls or transparent walls. Also being able to put roofs on 45° angles with the walls. When gathering resources or recycling lots of materials it gets very hard to see and pick up all of the smaller items up, (even with wide interaction on) having a separate button or way to pick up all resources in a certain area would be very helpful thank you for an amazing game and keep up that amazing work obsidian.

  44. Hello! I played Grounded 1.0 with my boyfriend and had some general annoyances with the game. Upon seeing and playing 1.1, I can see you really do listen to feedback from the community! So first of all, I want to say thank you so much for taking the time to understand what players are asking for and providing solutions! There are two suggestions I have currently relating to controls. In a few areas of the game there is a lot of button mashing which can get pretty tiring to do over and over again. I would appreciate seeing a way to pick up multiple items that are next to you with a single button. One implementation of this feature I have seen is being able to press and hold the pick up key which will continue to pick up items as long as you are holding the button down. For the spinning wheels and grinders, could you please add a button to fill all the available slots with the currently selected recipe? About 95% of the time when I'm crafting Silk Rope or Crude Rope I want all 5 slots in the queue filled. It would really help reduce the amount of button presses if I could press a single button to fill the entire queue with the selected recipe. Thank you again!

Either swung and thrown by the player and also fired from a bow. The ability to climb the thread/line both upwards & abseiling downwards. Climbing could drain stamina so as to limit how much the player might exploit the environment. Being able to abseil down and dangle in an open space and potentially begin to shift your weight forwards and back in order to swing.
