Ukraine war: The surrender hotline for Russian soldiers PS finally heard from my wife's cousin again. He's still kicking though even angrier than usual thanks to all the blackouts and given the chance would beat Putin to death with his bare hands. Those are his words, not mine. I think it'd be better to beat Putin with bear hands... or paws, as it were.7 points

Keir Giles, who I mentioned yesterday, has made some interesting new points about the situation in Ukraine. I think they are worth considering. Like: - The West is currently playing precisely according to Russian rules. The way the West is helping Ukraine is predicated on the idea that Russia shouldn't suffer any military consequences for its actions on its own territory. Zelenskyi has explicitly been told that he cannot strike back into Russia. - The West is doing this because Russia has actually won its information campaign, for the time being at least. The point of the campaign being the idea that opposing Russia would mean nuclear war and the end of the world. (According to Giles, there are no scenarios in Ukraine where the use of nuclear weapons would be a good idea for Russia.) - There is currently no reason for the official Russia to try to make any change for the better (in our estimation of what is better). Putin has made a lot of effort to eliminate everyone who has an idea of a more Western Russia. And many of those he hasn't eliminated have now fled the country. Again, whether he is right, I don't know. And elsewhere, Lavrov has just blamed NATO's rampant expansion for everything. This tallies well with the idea that Russia seriously believes that NATO forces other countries to join, like the SU forced countries to join the Warsaw Pact. He's constantly in denial about the fact that NATO has no desire to attack; heck, if it had, the perfect opportunity would have been there since February: Russia's forces are in Ukraine, there has never been a better moment to invade Russia. But no one wants to do it, despite Russia's paranoia about it.3 points

5 more objects of critical infrastructure caught fire today (30.11.) in Russia, three at the borders, and two deep in Russia. Ukraine did not comment on being accused that they’ve done it. edit: also one shopping mall in Krasnoiarsk with extremely large capital Z on caught fire, too.3 points

Yes...uh, kind of. Basically, the mechs are said to be actually quite difficult to control, so I guess it's all kind of muscle memory building exercises. Noriko talks about how she just can't seem to get the hang of using all of her limbs while also looking at the different screens to be able to control the stupid thing - she says that the girl she has a crush on just has a knack for it, but that girl actually tells Noriko that it's really just a lot of hard work and training to really get it down right. I also assume the gymnastics stuff is because they're all girls and...yeah, of course girls in mechs would be doing gymnastics and borderline cheerleading stuff, why wouldn't they?2 points

Nicola Rizzoli was the referee for the 2014 WC final and the Germany - France semifinal in the Euro 2016, and right before the game the German football commentator was complaining hard about the UEFA putting Rizzoli in charge of the game because "he is for sure going to try and make up for 2014". Well, that's fair enough.1 point

end result is same, but much sounds different. for example, we got a serious tax advantage for capital gains in the US, but it don't cover real property save for your personal residence and even then there is a limit. US capital gains is nevertheless a factor, but only in a tangential way and is likely not a root cause o' our current rental crisis. is also a mistake to generalize as a US issue given each state and city is gonna have laws, rules and ordinances which change the equation more than a little. most other western nations tends towards a bit more uniformity regarding such stuff as taxes. for example, prop 13 has a significant impact on your personal suffering as a california resident, 'cause compared to most states, property taxes is low, and is lower for people who has owned their property a long time. might come as a shock, but regular people tend to move every decade or so on average... 8 years is the number am recollecting. is more motivation for would-be robber barons to hold onto their income generating property than is for the case o' real people who likely need move at some point for jobs and the like. 'course as hurl is no doubt painful aware, the bay area is not the same as the rest o' the country or even much o' california. rental problems have been an issue for decades in the bay area and is magnified and different compared to parma, ohio or hillsborough, tennessee. however, regardless o' the state or city, depreciation and maintenance cost deductions as well as the ability to carry tax losses forward to subsequent tax years means that owners o' rental properties rare lose in the long run. am s'posing being the owner o' rental property is a bit like being the house in vegas. the biggest single cause o' our current US rental crisis were a result o' the great recession which predictable saw more property end up in fewer hands. covid made the issue worse and if we enter a full blown recession next year, then chances are the property ownership number is gonna shift even more in favor o' the haves and the have-nots will find it more difficult to rent... or buy for that matter. is no ez fixes though 'cause if you are a landlord and your costs sudden increase, then chances are you end up passing on the pain to your tenants, no? would be swell to blame IT ( "it" being whatever you believe the root cause to be) on the fat cats and wall street folks, but the problem is the people most likely immediate f'd by any meaningful solution is the poor and young. HA! Good Fun!1 point

Shingles vaccine is free to over 65s here in NZ. Same for flu vaccine, though you have to pay for that one if you're younger or don't have a relevant medical condition ($25; a lot of employees get it for free through their employers though). The covid ones and childhood ones (MMR diptheria etc) are all free as are the ones that need later boosters like tetanus (as I got one myself recently).1 point

I'm really glad I waited to jump in. Instead of living through the $#!+storm that was Cyberpunk's less than stellar launch, I got to watch it from afar and enjoy the schadenfreude and chaos. I jumped in after the 1.61 update and I have to say that the game is quite fun. I'm already planning out some things I'm going to do differently on a second playthrough. For one, I think I'll go heavy into strength and get gorilla arms and just run up to people and punch them. Exploding heads with my sniper rifle is pretty great, though. I'll probably also make my second character male so that I can hook up with Panam. As an aside, I thoroughly enjoy the driving physics in the game. For a non-racing game, I think the driving is really well done. It's way better than Watch_Dogs and Saints Row and at least as good as GTA driving. I particularly like motorcycles. I keep it in 1st person view when on a bike and powerslide around corners. Good times! I very rarely use fast travel to get around, which is a hallmark of a game with fun traversal mechanics. The game does feel too easy on standard difficulty, I'll probably go up a notch on my second playthrough.1 point

Whenever you get a vaccination at a Walgreens, they give you a printout that describes the vaccine, possible side effects, etc. Part of the etc. is they show the cost of the vaccination. As I was perusing the document I noticed the cost for a single Shingles shot (2 are required) costs $205.99! Now my insurance picks up 100% of vaccinations (and generic drugs) so its not my problem, but just imagine some Joe Shmoe walking in off the street with no insurance! $412.00 for the complete round of vaccination is criminal! My wife even said, if we werent covered, she would just take her chances getting Shingles before paying that much, and I wouldnt be surprised if a lot of people think that way. This causes people to "roll the dice" wrt their health, and then when the guano hits the air circulation mechanism, they have no recourse. This is a great example of why we need UHC.1 point

Same ********ery going on here, the current government wants to get rid of rent control and so does the owners of apartments. We had a small crisis a while ago when the Swedish Left party and Greens threatened to force the government out if they tried to get rid of rent control. It's funny though that the owners of rental properties are complaining that they can't build new buildings if you have rent control, but somehow they keep making billions of profits each and every year... Not to mention the fact that new apartments aren't really rent controlled.1 point

WoD is still pretty usable (+0.5s self buff, -2s foe buff, per Hit) but there should be more situations where it is much trickier to use consistently. And a couple of very powerful effects aren't extendable (Scordeo's Cascade, Prevent Death condition - Barring Death Door also works differently and is just a very big damage shield but for a longer duration). BPM isn't balanced around solo indeed. But the base game isn't balanced around solo to begin with.1 point

I lost two chest pieces so far that I had upgraded a lot because of the way gear works when it breaks. If you have full inventory when your gear breaks it drops on the ground with just a tiny icon if you are really close to it when you try to find it. This is extremely frustrating because it’s usually happening when I am around enemies trying to survive. So when it drops, I don’t notice and only find out later after Ive grabbed my bag and thinking I successfully made it out. So by that point I have no idea where my gear could be. The solution is simple. Broken gear should still be equipped and NOT returned to your inventory upon breaking. It should have no stats or perks since it is broken but there is no reason it should enter your inventory because things like this happen. Please allow broken gear to remain equipped so you don’t lose it. Another thing that would help is the ability to scan for gear in the resource surveyor. If our gear does get dropped then at least allow us to scan and find it that way.1 point

Of course, you can always disable the BPM nerfs if you want to play a build that was heavily impacted by them, like Blood Mage. @Elric Galadkindly separated BPM into the buffs and nerfs packages, enabling one to use one or both as you wish.1 point

It is going to get so much better than that. So, so much better! You know, there's deliciously funny irony in the only recommendation from @Sarex that kind of worked for you (or which you did not hate, at least) being one made to me. Had a belly laugh reading your exchange here and thinking of that. Kinda made my day, so thanks. edit: Maybe. I am uncertain, really. It's such a weird thing to not recommend a film that I really enjoyed watching and still can't... yeah. Odd, to say the least.1 point

I liked StarCraft because it was a nice blend of likeable and interesting characters, had a decent sci-fi story, nice background lore and a fun campaign. StarCraft II came out and assassinated the characters within the first two seconds of the very first cutscene and then proceeded to took a giant dump on the world building and established lore in that afterthought of a campaign that was flashy style over substance coupled to a game designed solely to appeal to RTS e-sports players - and that is without even considering the audacity to sell content worth one game in three separate installments to rake in some more cash. As much as I sometimes complain about Mass Effect 3's ending, for me, SC2 ranks very high amongst the biggest disappointments in gaming. WoW's Cataclysm just sealed the deal in the same year.1 point

So with the new grounded update the devs changed what you loose when you die to drop only resources instead the whole backpack which personally is not my thing, I enjoyed dropping the whole backpack instead cause it feels more challanging to me, which brings me to my point, when I want to change the settings to drop the whole backpack I also have to disable achievements which is pretty dissapointing, so my suggestion is still allowing achievements with the different settings.1 point

gets credit as being lgbt but those elements is implied more than overt so could disappoint a few viewers who were expecting paradigm shifts from an admitted lesser known 80s bowie flick. we don't wanna ruin the experience by saying too much. am gonna highly recommend not reading wiki or on-line synopsis before viewing. to this day we do much approve o' the score and is why we share. regardless, we were reflecting on movies we consider important but relative unknown and this were among the first to come to mind. ... nevertheless, at the risk o' tainting the well, we will observe we enjoyed merry christmas mr. lawrence a bit more when we were younger. such reevaluation doesn't make the film less worthy o' consideration. HA! Good Fun! ps am gonna admit the initial reason we thought o' mr. lawrence is 'cause we saw one o' those a bit too early best christmas movies polls and 'course being Gromnir, our first thought were the lion in winter. others making the cut is edward scissorhands, stalag 17, kiss kiss bang bang, the hudsucker proxy, rocky, gawain and the green knight and the animated 1966(?) how the grinch stole christmas tv special.1 point

i am conflicted. on the one hand i am sincerely hopeful that in the thick of the chaos just beyond your door you are seeing something more dramatic in the events around you than that which is actual playing out, because that would mean you, and many like you, face less imminent danger than believed. converse, i would welcome this moment as one o' those instances of real change, but rare do such social, cultural and military revolutions occur w/o the blood o' villains, heroes and innocents being spilled indiscriminate and beyond measure. regardless, good luck.1 point
