  1. Hello, it's review time for Pentiment. I'll start with this bit (IGN, 10/10 points): https://www.ign.com/articles/pentiment-review Also short overlook from Klobrille (on Twitter):

  2. We have Russian lapdogs in our parliament, and the police is still afraid to act against them. The most prominent of them, gets paid by Usmanov, and he even does try to conceal it, which is on the sanction list right from the beginning. But there is some small steps being made already, which could make the situation better in the future… also, over 1 hour long, but videos of this guy are worth every second spent on them…

  3. You can only successfully, er, "date" Lexi with a demon, she's into dudes who like to ~assert dominance~. I loved Trickster's way with her, though it might seem a little objectifying. Also, Wrathfinder requiring meta knowledge on top of system minutiae is why I don't feel like I deprive myself of challenge in a fun way when I mod the **** out of all the nuisances. Fighting cheating with cheating is only fair. There is impossibly tacky devil hanging out now in my Aeon's HQ. Golden frilly skirt, three set of wings and all of them gaudy, three sets of horns and all of them overcompensating for something, ripped like a gym freak too. All he misses is a purple feathered hat and I'd feel compelled to build a brothel.

  4. Well, at least the potential sentences are appropriate. We jailed a former Russian spy for like three years. Good job.

  5. I went to a friends wedding last night and got to see a few new things! Hes an Italian guy who married a Native American (Ojibwe) woman and their ceremony was a blend of both cultures. The officiant was of the same tribe and he performed the ceremony in both languages, then they read their vows to each other while holding an eagle feather, then there was a blanket ceremony where they were draped in a blanket woven by her mother, then there was a tobacco ceremony where you could partake in "smudging" if you like (I did). Their language was hella complex and it seem like it took a lot of Ojibwe words to say just a few English words. It was honestly one of the best wedding Ive ever attended.

  7. To be honest, I don't know if they're following a guide, or if Erica has explained to Dave the story so far and leapt in with it to get his impression. Or even if she was watching it and he just wandered through and offered the criticism without having seen anything else. No real context given really. I see people with opinions on Sailor Moon...I just got to know what you guys think of those opinions. As an aside, Erica Henderson is an Eisner winning comic artist and animator, so not a completely random Twitterererer. Even if it was a Tweetered Tweet on the Twittersphere of Twitterdom. For my part, I finally picked back up SPEED RACER and watched the final episode of THE RACE AGAINST THE MAMMOTH CAR. They only had one scene with the car broken up (when refueling), I really thought it was a more important thing from my childhood memories. So either my memory cheats, or I've mix-mastered multiple episodes in my memory. Some good Spritle and Chim-Chim action (maybe Hanna-Barbera should have looked at how they play against the heroes for Scrappy Doo ideas?).

  8. Yep. And this, in my view, is one of the less enjoyable aspects of the game. There's plenty of stuff where your only option tends to be: die, figure out what you should have done, reload, try again. It would be a lot better if, instead of "die", you could "respond to the challenge", but often it is really quite difficult. I wonder if you agree.

  9. I'd like to support this game by buying it DRM-free somewhere other than Steam or presumably the Microsoft store. GOG would be great. I kind of think DRM-free might be anathema to the Xbox overlords, but here's hoping. (Is there still a Microsoft store? I still have a Windows VM, but it doesn't seem to have a "Microsoft Store" application.)

  10. It's been a busy and shameful month for me. Halloween saw me buy a bunch of horror games to try and get in the mood. Played a bit of Signalis, lost some interest at the first boss fight. It's a great game, atmospheric and tense, but I'm not super into running in circles for a while waiting for weak spots to show up. Let alone repeating this process multiple times. Played a bunch of Bendy and the Ink Machine after hearing all the people review it as if it's the best horror game of all time. It's alright. Like an Amnesia-lite. Kind of got bored of being chased by monsters and hiding in closets a few years ago. And I'm not super into whatever's going on to pick it up again. The Eternal Cylinder. Another game that really failed to engage with me. Fascinating world they have, but the gameplay loop never grabbed me. Run from the cylinder for a while, then hunt down stuff to eat and mutate into the right form to progress. The finding the right mutation being the bulk of the game's puzzles. In my time with the game that's all there was. The Entropy Center. This is the winner of the past month. It clearly takes a lot of inspiration from Portal and falls short, but not so short. It's not as funny, but the characters are charming, and the puzzles are great. Working out the logic and seeing that fail or succeed kept me going until I finished the whole thing. Only game I've completed in a couple months. Dying Light. It was fun until I realized I'd seen all it had to throw at me 30 hours in and I wasn't even halfway done. Which paints me as a hypocrite for the next game. Fallout 4. In my defense, I like building things, I like collecting suits of armor, and the gunplay is at least workable. These are not features Dying Light shared. I could spend way too much time building robots. And then going into new buildings to collect garbage to build more robots.

  11. The Onion will have to sue him for making reality too difficult to parody. Oh and now that I think of it, there is a fourth possibility: Elon Musk is desperately wants to be funny but has a sense of humor that would embarrass someone from 2005.

  13. the final tragedy o' the nixon ouster is rare taught in schools, but am suspecting mitch mcconnell and others were much aware o' how the story ended for Congressional republicans who did the right thing. to this day, on this board, you will see people suggesting january 6 were unfortunate but nowhere close to an insurrection... and whatabout the 2020 summer protests? trump were not particular popular when he won the Presidency in 2016, but somehow a cultlike following developed during four years o' ignominy and incompetence? what? am thinking republican leadership is gonna be hesitant to move on from trump, regardless o' circumstances. history o' "heroic" nixonian republicans and the january 6 backlash 'gainst folks such as lindsey has taught the gop there ain't no practical benefits in doing the right thing. is in part 'cause o' the history o' nixon we are stuck with trump for the near future. @Pidesco (edit) there were no smoking gun moment for republican voters in regards to nixon. the narrative taught today is embracing more than a little romanticized fiction. what happened were, after a substantial elapse o' time following the release o' the watergate tapes, a collection o' republican Congressmen let the President know they would no longer support him through impeachment and a subsequent trial, at which point nixon resigned. the thing is, republican voters did not forgive those Congressmen who were disloyal to their clear guilty President; most o' those republican politicians were primary'd or voted out o' office in the subsequent election 'cause they had such diminished support from republican voters. HA! Good Fun!

  14. As I see it there are a few possibilities. 1) Elon Musk is an idiot who is only rich due to luck and other rich people being easy dupes. 2) Elon didn't want to buy Twitter at all and is trying to default on the loan or something. 3) Elon Musk spent $44 Billion to stop people from posting his bald picture or the one of him ad Ghislaine Maxwell. Honestly all 3 could be correct at once, which makes this **** even funnier.

  17. I have seen NA traditional food on US cooking shows like Bizarre Foods America, it varies from tribe to tribe https://littlethings.com/lifestyle/native-american-recipes/2918156-8 No there was no elephant in SA Maybe in India, the wedding lasts several days and its very detailed with lots of events and music. We just attended 5-7 hours And yes in SA a traditional wedding is a black wedding based on the tribal culture and customs but the reality is many black people just have the white wedding because 2 weddings is expensive but it depends on the couple and their cultural connection

  19. Barbarian (2022) This film is FANTASTIC. Genuinely horrifying on several levels in a way that most slashers wished they could be. The curveball thrown is beautifully executed in a way I have seldom seen pulled off. It's hard to say more without spoilers, so I'll wait to see if anyone else gives it a go. I highly recommend this. Good. Real talk, if a magical animal offers your daughter, or any child for that matter, to make a wish come true if they make a contact with it, make sure they don't sign up.

  21. Unfortunately it was just the standard fare of steak, chicken or vegetarian. The steak was surprisingly good and cooked to the correct temperature. I even commented to my wife that I couldnt remember any previous wedding dinners that had really good food (its usually cooked until its hammered overdone because theyre trying to cook for 200+). I wonder what the traditional NA food would have been. When you went to the Hindu wedding was an elephant involved? When you say "traditional black wedding" are you referring to a "tribal" African wedding?

  23. "Smudging" was part of the tobacco ceremony. First a woman went around the group with a satchel of ground tobacco and each person was to reach in with their left hand only and grab a pinch of tobacco. Then she came back around with a wad of smoldering tobacco and you were to "grab" some of the smoke in your hands and waft it onto your head/body. This is "smudging" and is used to "cleanse" and "bless" oneself. Then the chief(?) had an around two foot wooden pipe that he took a big rip on and then blew it into the air (Iirc, to signify blowing the blessing of the union up to the ancestors), then we had to walk to a grassy area (we were outside in the parking lot because of the smoke) and drop the pinch of tobacco onto the earth. Even cooler was the eagle feather. From the way it was revered and handled it was obviously a Very Important Object. It was carried around in a special handmade leather sleeve that was tied around with leather strapping and opened/closed like a book. The sleeve was also decorated but I wasnt close enough to see the patterns. Also, I know its probably a relic of the past and NA's probably dont do it anymore, but all of their surnames were very pedestrian like "Miller". There wasnt a single "old school" name to be heard, like Running Bull, for example.

  24. Although it would've been a bunch of dysfunctional fun to see a 218-217 House (Democrat or Republican, either way), it looks like it's going to be 220-215 Republican. Truly an injustice.

  28. This has been pretty big news in the north of Europe, not sure about how widely this has been reported elsewhere. Doesn't look too pleasant. Neither does the drone stuff in Norway. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-63601266

  29. Not giving Amentep an earful, but I'm not going to take to Twatter to twatter out a reply, so he gets it here. Actually that semi cohesive pseudo-essay began as a one liner nitpicking about R not beginning with Chibi-Usa falling from the sky until I realized that she could potentially be watching the series with an episode guide that leaves out the filler, and everthing else just followed from there. Might as well just go and watch Crystal to have your brain melted like that. I said it before, I can see getting a head start with the series by just watching episodes 1, 8, 10 and 13, but even that is questionable. Sure, it drops Usagi's most annoying early moments, but it also removes a few episodes that were just plain fun (like those completely mad furry glowy-eyed pet things). But dropping all the good episodes in favor of getting to BRACK RADY early? Yeah, count me out. I'd rather watch Makoto tidy up Motoki's room and cook for Ali. Luckily, I am only aware of Scrappy Doo by pop-cultural osmosis. Scooby Doo did air every now and then, but never the episodes with Scrappy, and I am certainly not going to subject myself to them just to figure out just how wrong the comparison really is. I'll take your word for it. It sure is a curious position to be in, understanding both sides of an argument by personal experience. Chibi-Usa occupies a Schrödinger's space in my brain as I remember loathing her inclusion in the series (never mind hating her character), and actually enjoying her presence.

  30. I'm sure it's a fine show. Except for the fact that it made me want to decapitate the main character within the first minute of watching it, and seeing the rest of the episode only made me want to slowly draw and quarter him instead. Could be the greatest show or movie of all time, if I hate the main character and can't connect with them when I'm supposed to, it's not going to be enjoyable. Call it an issue of appeal more than anything else, since they clearly weren't trying to appeal to me with that bozo. @majestic I was wondering if you were going to give Amentep an earful for daring to post that, particularly without the context of having seen the show himself. Although I should admit that I almost nitpicked the same thing about the first ten or so episodes not even having Chibi-Usa...but the thing is, I did restrain myself. Luckily, I had you to pick up the slack, . Personally, I saw the show as an adult first and didn't have an issue with Chibi-Usa and liked her outside of SuperS, but most everyone and everything is wrong in SuperS, so I'm not going to hold it against her personally even though she and her pegasus problem are definitely the absolute worst part of that season. So unless Scrappy Doo is actually magically much better as an adult (and that would be very difficult to believe), the comparison really just doesn't fit for me.

  32. Been a while since I've been playing games, but I figured I'd go back into it, starting by finally getting around to Divinity: Original Sin. And, uh... Hmm... Response is rather mixed so far, for me. The combat was outright aggravating during the first section of the game, though it's been getting better as I've gradually learnt more about the game's mechanics and the likes. However, a lot of the writing and story is just preposterous, sometimes amusingly so but other times headachingly so. The story is a mish-mash of the worst Chosen One tropes, all to deliver a bunch of fluff that has staggeringly little to say, with motivations from the behalf of villains and auxiliary characters that makes no sense whatsoever. The voice acting is atrocious, everyone seems to be competing with one another to see how much of the scenery they can chew, stretching and accentuating every word of what is already often very flowery prose. Exploration and questing have been decent enough, on the other hand. Still, I'm not surprised so far that the recommendation so often seems to be to skip straight to D:OS2 (which I plan on getting to right after).

  33. Well you can buy a recipe from the science shop for each tier (Brittle, Sturdy,Supreme) so instead of using the marbles or quarts you can use the Respawnables resources like larva parts and sap for brittle wheatstone. I see the marble/quarts sort of as a free upgrade resource as a reward for exploring

After that, there is only missions left, that takes place in Iz. So, off to Iz after that. I can almost hear the lead bard from some Abyssal Rock band belting out "Gorth save the Queen!"

  37. as difficult as it may be to believe, the laughing cave encounter is easier today than at release. that said, w/o meta knowledge is doubtful you would see the vavakia vanguard as having been nerfed in any meaningful way. pre nerfing it were fair to ask why the two wotr vavakia vanguards didn't overthrow deskari and baphomet and then set their sights on the entirety o' the abyss, 'cause their powhaz were potential army shattering as well seeming tailored to overcome most demonlord defenses. 'course asmodeus and mephistopheles wouldn't have fared any better, so war 'tween the fiends were all but over as soon as the vavakia vaguards made an appearance. as to secrets o' creation, am admitted confused by the replication o' content from enigma and secrets. @Agielsuggested backer contribution were at least in part to blame as a backer were the one who demanded an all puzzle quest. for whatever reason, owl cat went full infernal or bottled genie, perverting the backer wish so as to become a curse... or so we assume. edit: am mostly finished with act iv. a few things has changed with act iv. we got jumped by a bunch o' slavers which hadn't happened previous, but were such minor encounter am not sure why it were added or fixed. am also seeing how the hand no longer tops off your spells and daily abilities when he heals you, but resting works curious as our meal bonuses don't appear to expire as one would expect. rooftop remain dangerous for a party with many critters and embiggened companions as we inevitably set off traps when our oversized party is crammed into rooftop space. gonna finish off the quasit and then move on to the mines. HA! Good Fun!

  38. I totally agree! I don't want to restart after so many hours and also there is the chance it just happens again I think. Even if it cannot be fixed easyly, resetting his position as a workaround shouldn't be too hard to implement, right?

  39. I finally completed The Secret of Creation (I think that was its name), after finding the last puzzle pieces in The Laughing Cave. That was a bit... anticlimactic? Gained another level to cumulative level 38 (20 barbarian and 18 warrior). On normal difficulty, most needs for tactics or thought has gone out the window. The last fight in The Laughing Cave actually downed 3 of my team members, bit Gorth would just merrily hack away at the two bosses, doing between 75 and 150hp damage with each swing of Finnean (and that's a lot of swings at this point at this level)

  40. I've been thinking this for a while also and always wondered why it was a feature never added. I love the little PEEP.R feature to scan animals but it definitely makes sense that you can scan creatures again and maybe even have a little floating tooltip of weakness or tier of the creature.

  41. Now the real question is... why are you attacking this poor robot?? But really, I appreciate this info and it is very useful for helping us uncover what is going on. Unfortunately I don't have a workaround for this at this time so you may need to start a new game to continue to progress (and avoid attacking BURG.L), and i will keep you updated as I learn more.

  43. Think about how many parents abandoned, killed or simply couldn't manage to keep alive their Hollowborn children. Just because they didn't have the money or the strength of will to deal with something like that. Think how emotionally and psychologically shattered they would be. Then you come in and send all the souls back and all the Hollowborn still around just wake up and become normal children again. Thats wonderful for them and their parents. But what about the parents from before? Its just about the worst things you could ever do, these people will never recover from that.
