Please tell me you see the irony in raising an absolutely gigantic strawman to (mis)represent US critics, and in the immediately following paragraph describing how humans (not you, of course) have a need to accept facile generalizations rather than consider all aspects of complex situations.3 points

Man, Control has me hooked to the SCP Foundation. It's OK. I don't feel shame. This is Pokémon for grown-ups. As for Elden Ring, working on your class is just as addicting as ever. I have a Warrior but I am not sure if I want to invest in the whole 'bleed' build. Looks tempting but certain enemies I prefer engaging from a distance and that's where the incantations come in. I wonder if @Majek is playing Elden Ring. I remember it was fun discussing different builds in Bloodborne with that guy...and now I want to play Bloodborne again!3 points

sadly, we have no trouble believing how many have reflexive defended will smith. is another one o' those impulse control incidents which so disappoint us 'cause actors, athletes and executives get a different standard and am almost as disturbed by people rushing to defend the wrongdoer as we is by the initial battery. this is so not a "public eye" incident being unnecessarily magnified. how many people did chris rock insult during the eve before his gi jane quip? will smith were okie dokie with all the previous jokes, so his speech 'bout being a "protector" strikes us as hornswoggle. am knowing mr. smith didn't wanna look like a b!tch by apologizing to chris rock, but that woulda' taken far more courage and woulda' meant something. 'cause o' trump, the washington correspondent's dinner stopped the tradition o' having comedians host. gonna do the same for the oscars? am guaranteeing if you got a comedian host the oscars next year there will be a joke more offensive than the gi jane bit. antifa thinks is swell to respond to offensive speech with violence, and is a shocking number o' americans who do not have a problem with such behaviour. and anybody who is going around and smacking people 'cause o' the equivalent o' the chris rock gi jane joke, seek professional help. do in private and get away with such behaviour don't make your actions less disturbing. if you genuine do not have the impulse control to restrain yourself from attacking a comedian, then you got a problem and you should seek help. making excuses? is disappointing but not surprising. HA! Good Fun! ps is not fair there is a different standard for minorities, but will smith's smack will be used to legitimize the firm held views o' too many fox viewers and cops who believe minority men is violent by nature. is not will smith's fault we gotta be extra careful when pulled over by cops for some bs at 2:00am. even so, pretend will smith's actions is complete insular is also fantasy.3 points

Over the weekend I tried my hand at making a jerk chicken marinade for the first time to put on some drumsticks. Pretty good for a first attempt, but it does need a bit of dialing in. I purposely omitted brown sugar since I'm currently on a keto-ish diet, though I suppose a bit of brown sugar in the marinade wouldn't have been the end of the world and would have added a nice bit of carmelization. It was also not as spicy as I thought it would be. I used 1 habanero in the marinade for 5 drumsticks. Next time I'll use a bit of brown sugar and 2 habaneros or scotch bonnets.2 points

I'm no expert either. But the few I follow generally stress the priority would be to build a modern airforce and air defense systems. That involves cost that go far beyond javelins and stringers. Especially for countries that wouldn't provide a single truck or a 4x4. (leading to predictable buy-out of Toyota pickups in neighboring countries) And then there was the whole MIG transfer debacle. So the way I see it - serious military hardware is off the table.2 points

You were, quite obviously, arguing from the tacit premise that you don't indulge in the "need for simplicity" you described, leaving the door open to escape it by "approaching every situation on its own". Because otherwise, the implication is that the "sheer idiocy" (your own words) of that kind of reasoning also applies to you. I might be misunderstanding, so please enlighten me. Which one is it? And while you're at it, please, demonstrate how I'm deliberately misconstruing your words. I'm simply taking your argument to its conclusion. -- I mean, it's like the whole concept of great-power politics is alien to folks around here. Has nothing to do with USA = BAD or any number of facile generalizations reductionist caricatures. All great powers have done it, and will continue to do it, precisely because there's always people refusing to acknowledge it or coming up with rationalizations that "it's not so bad" when it's their side doing it. Yes, exactly like the Russians are doing right now. It may come as a shock to some, but yes, it is perfectly possible to acknowledge Russia's atrocities and profound democratic shortcomings, while understanding that the US has no interest in a negotiated solution that may even remotely satisfy Russian security concerns. Especially when it's not US cities being shelled. Understanding this, and realizing that brinkmanship is a thing does not make anyone a bot, a propagandist, an apologist, stupid, or any other creative epithet you feel like throwing around. Ultimately, that is just deflection, as is pointing out that the US isn't all bad because they also did XYZ when no one has actually said USA=BAD. The Soviet Union raised literacy, economic indicators and living standards in Russia pretty indisputably. It emancipated women in a way that was unthinkable in Tsarist Russia. This didn't make it any less of a corrupted, totalitarian nightmare and the price of all that was paid in blood by people who had no say in the matter. Complex **** is complex. Stop processing arguments from your preconceptions of why the other person is saying what they are saying, and focus on what they are saying. Kaiserreich is one of the best mods of all time. Of all time!2 points

It is very unreasonable, in fact, although the US does indeed have a very mixed track record. As @BruceVC quite rightly points out, the US has been involved in an awful lot of positive things, which of course doesn't excuse its failures and its dark side. But to say that the US only operates in a spurious and morally questionable way is either plain dumb or extremely cynical(*) -- and in either case, it's quite plainly wrong. (*) One interesting thing about cynical attitudes is this: if a person takes the stance that other people operate in the world only or predominantly from a cynical standpoint, it would be good for this person to recognize that the chances are very high that he himself is the most cynical person in this equation.2 points

All of the above, and more (i.e. "other reasons", too). Some of it was almost certainly due to being fairly well informed on one aspect of the situation (like, finances, geography or somesuch) but very badly informed on others. One of the most (unintentionally) dangerous characters is the one who really knows quite a lot about his field of expertise and then concludes that this constitutes expertise in other fields as well.2 points

I backed the game and have had it since the beginning of EA. But I am yet to play it as my MO is always to wait several months before I play a new game, so that most bugs and other issues will have been ironed out by then. Have never ever felt a need to play a game on Day 1.2 points

My sentiments exactly. And I'd also point out that I don't think it is at all a coincidence that the initials of this game's name are the same as Baldur's Gate.2 points

It sounds like they expanded the RPG mechanics from The Council quite a bit. The Council did have RPG-like skill trees, but I wouldn't have called it a RPG. The dialogue battles sound similar to what The Council did, they were the "combat" in the game. You had a variety of choices on how to proceed, depending of what skills you possessed and information had gathered, and attempts to influence your opponent weren't guaranteed to succeed, again depending on your skills.2 points

By which conceivable logic are you able to conclude that I regard myself as other than human, or otherwise exempt from the group "humans"? I must say I would expect at least a little more professional attitude from a forum moderator (not unrealistically, in my view).2 points

Hotfix for Persistent Distraction and a couple of minor changes. Deadfire Balance Polishing Mod at Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Nexus - Mods and Community (nexusmods.com) Mostly slight number tweaks. Among changes : - Reduced Screaming Souls AoE as it was a bit broken vs Vessel and Spirit groups. - Rusted Armor (Druid, Berath and scroll) targets Reflex now. It was barely possible to hit Fortitude on those targets requiring an armor debuff. - Uncanny Luck reworked from CP version : this version is 5% resistance, 5% Hit to Crit, 5% Graze to Hit, 5% Miss to Graze. I kind of agree that the base game required a small buff, but 10% Hit to Crit from CP basically made it a no-brainer talent IMHO. It overshadowed Rogue Hit to Crit talent, Cipher's high level 15% Hit to Crit talent (Limited to Cipher's Spell vs Will !) and Wizard 15% Hit to Crit spell. Of course, this component is in the nerf package and can be deleted.2 points

Astonishingly, this attitude is fairly widespread among those leaning to the left. It can appear in people who are otherwise quite well informed and reasonable. The key tenet seems to be this: Whatever the United States is involved in cannot, by definition, be morally proper. I am by no means a "fan" of the United States (a country so full of contradictions it just boggles the mind), but this kind of thinking is sheer idiocy. My take is that it stems from the all too human need for simplicity: life is so much easier if you accept facile generalizations, instead of trying to approach every situation on its own. Interestingly, and kind of paradoxically, Vladimir Putin has recently demonstrated that whatever Russia says should never be trusted. There is no getting away from this: his betrayal and dishonesty has been so blatant and far-reaching. And since losing trust is extremely easy but regaining it is very hard, I suppose it'll take quite some time before Russia regains trust in international politics. Like, decades at least. Btw, if you ask Russia, it really hasn't attacked anyone. Seriously. What do you mean war in Ukraine? What are you talking about? We are not bombing cities, we are rearranging architecture. We are not killing civilians, we are making alterations in their life expectancy.2 points

That "article" is just blatant and unashamed propaganda piece. Azov for illustration, "Kiev coup of 2014", unironic lavrov citations, etc., couldn't be more official russian propaganda if it came from one of their state channels.2 points

The same limitation is applied for Garrote from the Steel Garrote as well, for the Raw damage and Prone being implemented as a subeffect of Paralysis. That said, I think it makes sense in the context of Confounding Blind and was probably intentionally coded this way.2 points

Confouding Blind deflection malus is actually a sub effect of the blind condition. This means contrary to other Affliction + other effect attacks, it doesn't apply the deflection debuff vs PER resistant or Immune foes. EDIT : note that it is technically said in the description... Of course, I will change this for BPM (too annoying compared to alternative Gouging strike)2 points

I'd go with - X-Men - good X2 - great The Last Stand - a huge disappointment First Class - great Days of Future Past - good Apocalypse - not so good Dark Phoenix - a huge disappointment Origins: Wolverine - mixed (some very bad elements mixed with some okay) The Wolverine - great Logan - great Deadpool - funny Deadpool 2 - funny The New Mutants - good, but also disappointing While New Mutants was released last, it was supposed to come out after Apocalypse and before Dark Phoenix. Parts of New Mutants, however, seem to reference the end of Logan which would put it chronologically last (and which just adds to the gibberish continuity of Fox's X-Men films). Deadpool and Deadpool 2 come in before New Mutants (but continuity wise, these three films share only tangential relationship with the main series).1 point

This, pretty much. The anime so far had very little fanservice outside of the first episode where Hitomi sometimes runs around in her track and field gear, and comes to late to a competition run and has her sweatpants pulled off by a friend of hers from the running team (and yeah, she wears sports gear underneath anyway). Most of the time she's in her school uniform - even on Gaia, not very surprising, it's the only clothing she has. There's a whole bunch of elements, like Van, who by far and large is rather shouneny. His more mature version, Allen, who is a gallant European style knight, who is just a little more eloquent but pretty similar regardless. The cat girl. It basically starts with a flying fortress, and anyone who read my posts about the StrikerS finale knows how much fun I made of its flying fortress, or the "minor" fact that The Vision of Escaflowne has mech combat in a medieval fantasy setting with cat girls, wolf people and whatever else will come up. It's also fairly tropey, and it begins... in a very, very tired way, with the newly crowned king losing his kingdom to superior foreign invaders. Yet nothing of that really bothers me watching this. It's fun to watch. One of the villains is voiced by Minami Takayama who gives an absolutely wonderful and hammy voice performance that sometimes remdinds me of Megumi Ogata's characters. Well, I'm five episodes in, it might yet fall apart completely, but so far, I don't hate it - worse, I actually find myself enjoying the show. In an effort to unsell you here, you know that part of the Sailor Stars writing team also made SuperS, right? Don't misunderestimate me here! /bushism No, really, I have no issue enjoying trash, I basically loved every second of watching Dark Matter, for instance, which is what comes out when you take a Whedony series setup (no, not written by Joss Whedon), liberally season it with hammy performances, space opera level dialogue and a heavy dose of character stereotypes. Shake, stir, let it simmer a bit and film. It begins with six walking stereotypes waking from cryogenic sleep (gruff mercnary guy finds lots of big weapons in his room, and the Japanese guy... guess what, has a huuuuuge katana colleciton) without any memories of their past. Does that make you groan already? It sure made me groan at first. But then... it's just fun. The thing is, while I can easily tell why Dark Matter is fun for me I honestly don't know why I'm liking The Vision of Escaflowne.1 point

I could be wrong, but I don't think majestic is suddenly finding enjoyment in all the things that he normally despises (e.g. fan service, lowbrow humor, overly tropey writing et al.) insomuch as the show in question is walking a line that makes its elements actually justifiably work...in direct contrast to so many other shows that have similar elements, where they are instead employed in a much more pained and/or pathetic manner. Marx may have been German, but his ideas inspired Vladimir Lenin and the Bolshevik Revolution, which set off the chain of events that, at least in part, have led us to present day events. That said, removing the Karl Marx study room, which I'm assuming means a study group of Marx and his philosophies and not the physical removal of a room or it being renamed, is an idiotic, but all too typical reaction in the times we live in. People like Karl Marx, or Ayn Rand for that matter, should be studied and discussed so that we can pass on what insight we can from their interesting but flawed and potentially dangerous ideas. Sweeping them under the rug doesn't actually do anything positive (quite the opposite, in fact) but creates the illusion of caring on the most shallow, surface, zero brain cell "Russia Bad" level.1 point

A bit about Gleipnir... it's basically about Aliens. Well, one alien. Simplified version: He distributes a potion that turns people into something they wish they were. Out protagonist turned into the silly looking toy dog purse, because that is what he was thinking about at the time. It's a large version of a small toy worn by a girl that he seems to have a bit of feelings for, subconsciously wishing he was that toy hanging at her side in a key ring. As for what the alien (which looks like some surfer/beach boy) wants out of it, their ship crashed and his fellow team members got scattered over a large area. They were in some kind of stasis, the consciousness stored in what looks like a coin with a star symbol on it. He offers to reward people who brings him coins by fulfilling more of their wishes. Imaging a genie in a bottle with more than 3 wishes. The protagonist is a nice guy and not all who met the alien are bad people, but humans being humans, some are. The good guys make it a goal to find as many coins as possible to prevent them from falling into the hands of some of the rather nasty monstrosities we've seen so far. /completely butchered story by leaving out 9/10 of the detail The girl with the cloak can go invisible, the girl with the helmet has bunny ears (she loved animals and wished she could talk with them), the giant bunny is just a big softie and the guy with the telescope head is... yes, a voyeur etc. etc. The other protagonist, Claire is not on the picture. She is the one that normally is inside the toy dog, "piloting" it. She has the ruthlessness that our protagonist lacks and she wants to find her missing sister, after her sister turned into a monster and killed their parents.1 point

Honestly, I'd say that actual CW genre drama style Trek would be an active improvement over what we've got, since you tended to at least get a few good seasons out of them. As much as something like Flash is a bit of a joke now, it at least had 2-3 decently entertaining seasons where you'd finish your 40 minutes feeling that the time wasn't wasted and you were more or less entertained.1 point
