I don't particularly mind boobplate. It's about consistency in the art direction. If everyone else in a game is wearing realistic and functional looking armor and suddenly you introduce a buxom babe in a chain bikini, that stands out and warrants criticism. If, on the other hand, everybody is wearing exaggerated, cartoonish, and/or show offy outfits, then a woman wearing a corset as armor doesn't look out of place. Anyway, Pillars had much bigger problems than boobplate, or the lack there of.5 points

It's nothing fancy but main reason for this house (besides the pool hubby wanted): Big spot for a garden. There's a 2nd covered patio/storage on the house-side, too. ...and could still put a big/long workshop on the other side. Also, outdoor couch and I can sit here with a laptop all day, rain or shine. Maybe I should wall it in and turn it into a "woman cave?" Probably too humid tho. Haha. The actual basic room for my "cave." It's 13-14 feet long. Currently planning for efficiency and function. Think the window wall is going to be all desktop attached to the wall, with an L/desk that sticks out towards the door. I could have four monitors plus the TV! Or two big TV's and two monitors! Hm...needs more thought...must be perfect cause once done it's not changing. Maybe I should make it a U instead. Walking space? I don't need that. Edit: also ... no trees on our side or big street trees. No more tons of raking/being knee deep in leaves. The neighbors have enough greenery to stare at - saw squirrels and lots o' little birds, so they'll be around like I like.4 points

The realism argument against boobplate was always a bit silly. In reality, the number of women who wore plate armour or even breastplates* was incredibly low, and the number who fought in it so low that I'm not sure there is a single verifiable example at all. Realism says that neither should exist (nor chainmail bikinis**) so it's all a style choice. Now, pauldrons, their abuse in gaming settings is most certainly a subject very close to my heart. *decent number of women in other roles in medieval armies though, since anyone in them was simply assumed to be male. For obvious reasons limited to roles where you didn't need help putting armour on though. **while unrealistic, it has to be said that half the english army at Agincourt fought literally literally half naked. That was due to the rampant dysentery they were suffering from though, not a video game catering to the female eye.3 points

Note: I had the community patch and balance polish mod installed (in case that affects some of the interactions of abilities) Just finished another playthrough and wanted to give my thoughts on some of the builds I used. First up is my main character that went single class Arcane Archer. The basic way that I used him was primarily an AoE CC + AoE damager via Imbue Eora, Web, and Fireball/Death. You group them up with Eora, Debuff their reflex and immobilize them with Web, and then unleash damage with either Fireball or Death, depending on their resistances and if your own teammates are too near to Fireball's damage radius. You can also just chain Imbue:Missiles for single target damage, especially when empowered (with the way empower works, Minoletta's Missiles gets a huge power increase relative to many other spells). Probably the most important ability to grab is the passive Driving Flight which will enable your Imbues to hit two targets, effectively doubling the damage of Fireball/Death. One nice thing about this subclass is that you get the Imbue abilities for free and really don't need most of the other Ranger active abilities (wounding shot, etc) because you'd usually prefer to save your resources for the Imbues. This means you can pick up lots of empower enhancing abilities at high levels and/or grab some of the pet-centric abilities along the way. I used Spearcaster as my main weapon because it just fit my character RP wise the best (scientist background and high arcana giving extra accuracy). Weapons with natural bounce effects would have been even better potentially as the Imbues bounce along with your attack. Overall this was a fun build. The AoE damage can be really strong, single handedly wiping out packs of enemies or killing a squishy target right off the bat with empowered Missiles. However, now that I know more about it I'd probably choose to multiclass Arcane Archer. Arcane Archer really doesn't need too many skill points spent in it to make it effective since the Imbues are auto-grant. I've read interesting synergies with Helwalker or Barbarian multiclasses in particular that sound fun. The main thing you'd lose if you multiclassed is access to Imbue:Death or quicker access to Imbue:Eora but I think the synergies you'd gain would make up for that, not to mention it probably being a more fun build overall.2 points

For anyone wondering while that's certainly true of a house- ie good insulation keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer- a human produces heat, it's like having a well insulated house, and running heaters year around. Swaddling in the heat will result in heat exhaustion very, very quickly except under very specific conditions and equipment (though there are some counterintuitive things like why some people wear black in the heat- matt black is actually the best 'colour' at radiating heat away, while white is the worst so if you're out of the sun black is a good choice) The type example for what really happens if you're dumb enough to wear full plate armour in hot conditions would be the monumentally, monumentally, stupid Battle of Hattin. Strip your garrisons, march your medieval knights out into a blasted desert in the middle of summer where your enemy controls the water, be surprised when the bulk of your force isn't even capable of running away a day later. Salah-eh-Din doesn't really need to do anything when faced with moronism that abject.2 points

I just wanted to push my glasses up my nose and say actually. A full grain leather coat was the number one item to have if you crash landed in the middle of the desert (not including a satellite phone). It was some survival quiz or some such thing. Most people picked a bottle of water or a map, but the water would not last you long and the map would not be of much use unless you knew where you landed. The coat keeps you cool in the day and warm during the nights.2 points

Glamoured Armor, you choose the appearance of it to be pasties and a thong, you still get the full benefit. As for enchantments, it'd depend on what game one is playing, I had one of my Shadowrun players enchant rubber bouncing balls with timedelayed explosion magics. Fun was had.2 points

That's ceremonial armor, AFAIK. The Lord wearing that wouldn't be fighting in it and, again AFAIK, comes from a period when armor was becoming more for ceremony than utility anyhow. If worn in battle, a sword that glances down the torso could easily get stopped on the knobby outcropping and the tip of the blade guided inward past the armor, something that doesn't make the armor terribly useful in a fight. Similarly boobplate with cleavage could deflect armor off the boob towards the inner chest, the place you don't want blades to go. Anyhow, if I'm correct, I don't think anyone would be complaining about cleavage baring or boobplated ceremonial armor provided the Lady in question didn't run out of the castle in it to start fighting rampaging ogres outside the gate. (anyhow magic throws the whole thing in a high magic setting because, theoretically, you could have a magic ring that gives you a better AC than plate mail and fight buck nekkid).2 points

In one of those weird things, a local bookstore started getting untranslated photo-novel books from Japan and one of them that my brother picked up* was (as they seemed to be for movies rather than TV series) 1982's MACROSS: DO YOU REMEMBER LOVE? This was prior to Harmony Gold's mash-up ROBOTECH, so it was a bit surreal when a year or two later Robotech hit the air and I recognized the character, ship and mech designs. Not sure why the bookstore decided to start getting in untranslated photo-novel's from Japan; it wasn't a specialty book store (that would be a different story, but that was untranslated manga I picked up and right now I'm blanking on just what title I did pick up there). Speaking of Robotech, I believe there have been releases for Super Dimension Macross outside of Robotech - did Mospeda or Southern Cross ever get non-Robotech releases in the US? *I picked up a three or four volume photo-novel version of 1979's Castle of Cagliostro and one for 1980's Cyborg 009: Legend of the Super Vortex...my brother's second series was 1982's Andromeda Stories.2 points

I've always heard it referred to as [type of cheese] [type of meat when not pork] sausage. Besides, smoking sausage is much better than grilling it. It can be good, but as @majestic says the cheese stays way hotter than the meat so you often get burned by cheese or you get cold(er) meat. I think jalapeño cheese is the best, but unlike @ShadySands I'd go with jack over cheddar. But since sausage isn't super healthy, I ate some yogurt and granola.2 points

I'm sorry but this just strikes me as white supremacist and pro-western propaganda. It's kind of hard to imagine that Tibet will rise up against the CCP when it looks like Taiwan will fall to the PLA at the first fart. Yes, Eastern society is...strange by Western standards, but their current trajectory shows very few contradictions (AKA they clearly know what they want, unlike the West where the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing) and seem to be formulating a semblance of vision for the future.2 points

I ... don't know how to feel about anything Borderlands anymore. At first I thought it was going to be another BL3 DLC, but apparently it's a "full priced" game. And will be Epic exclusive at first, but no one knows for how long. Could be only a month, could be six months. At any rate ... taking a major fan favorite DLC and turning into a game (vs. an official "BL4") that likely uses the same engine/mechanics as BL3 and (assuming) charging 60 for it feels ... kinda oogey. Not to mention lack of creativity. Being able to "multi-class" by mixing up 6 skill trees on one chr. might be interesting for a looter, but it better be full-price game length, at least. Tiny Tiny was a great DLC but I'm not sure how well it'd stretch out to full-game. Hm. I think on my own I wouldn't buy it until on deep sale but I'm sure hubby will get bored next summer and "make" me play it so we'll see. I will say tho, that if this ends up boring or company-annoying me in the long run as much as BL3 did, I'm done with this franchise. Hubby can continue to play it alone, if he wants.2 points

I don't think I feel quite as strongly about it as Keyrock, but I am of the same mind. Keeping up with PC's as well as costs is just becoming too silly. Not that I ever kept up with PC tech religiously or anything but. Still, I like the ability to mod and use cheats, the ability to have or more easily swap around hundreds of saves, and the video and screenshot capabilities on PC. I'm sure every console will only get better at those things eventually too but ... yeah. I expect to build at least one more PC (or at minimum, just a GPU) to keep up with 4k/60 on "next gen" games but that's still a few years away. After that ... eh ... I don't think I game enough on average anymore to care - especially AAA gaming. Might just go with PS6 by then.2 points

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: StrikerS, episode 2. So far this is more like a spin off series where the original main characters act as mentors, instructors and superior officers to what looks like two four new main characters. The interweb told me this will go even further with the subsequent seasons (called Vivid) to a point where almost none of the original characters are in the show, but that's sort of far off. So far the third season continues the pattern of A's of having one action packed episode followed by a less action packed one. The first episode had the two newbies on a training course for a promotion from "C" to "B" rank, just in case it was unclear: We're still in an animated JRPG. Hayata wants to form a elite team with Fate and Nanoha, and is trying to recruit the newbies (Teanna, or Tia for short and Subaru). Nanoha, now combat instructor, kindly informs them that they, while finishing the training course on time and with excellent combat results, failed the examination due to their reckless behaviour. Now isn't that something else. They're assigned a special safety training course and a new date for a reexamination. A flashback to a rescue effort four years ago serves to explain why Hayate wants to form an elite response unit and finally gives out something we've all been waiting for: Fanservice (beyond Subaru's fighting "armor" consisting of a crop top and hot pants, that is)! At least they're all 19 now. Well, it was worse already in the first season, so this is a welcome change... no, really. This happens directly after the three spent an evening trying to rescue trapped civilians from a fire at the aiport, or space port, on the home planet of the Space Cops. I'm not sure if that's meant to show that they were exhausted and fell asleep, in that case they're entirely too clean, or if that was meant as food for a whole bunch of shippers... sigh. Yeah, I'm going with the former in my mind, and just imagine they're all still sweaty and grimy instead of the latter. Why else would they still wear shirts. The newbies are 15, or thereabouts, except the two other newbies that'll complete the new main cast, by the looks of it. Those are good deal younger. I wonder, really, is there no age limit for joining the miliatry? Well, who knows, maybe they're part of some miltary academy. The introduction of the two younger newbies has them fall over each other, a bit like Rei and Shinji in Rei's appartment, just with more clothes on (and in public). Their names are Erio and Caro, although I'm not really sure if those are supposed to be their first or last names. The boy introduces himself as Erio Mondial in that order, but Erio seems like the first name, but it's entirely not Japanese to go with the first name first... erm, whatever. I mean they're aliens, so... like. Whatever, really. Caro has a pet baby dragon. I don't think the Space Cops have an elite dragon force, but hey, maybe. Fate ominously asks Nanoha if everything is all right with her, and the episode ends with showing the Belkan Knights fighting some rising threat. The pieces are on the board, and I'm curious what's going on, I like new newbies so far and it's all... not so bad for something that moved from an Earth based Magical Girl series with super advanced technology to outer space sci-fi action with schlocky elements.1 point

After all that cheerfulness, now for something more depressing... https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-59199484 There are more delegates at COP26 associated with the fossil fuel industry than from any single country, analysis shared with the BBC shows. "Their influence is one of the biggest reasons why 25 years of UN climate talks have not led to real cuts in global emissions." ... Overall, they identified 503 people employed by or associated with these interests at the summit. They also found that: Fossil fuel lobbyists are members of two country delegations, Canada and Russia The fossil fuel lobby at COP is larger than the combined total of the eight delegations from the countries worst affected by climate change in the past 20 years More than 100 fossil fuel companies are represented at COP, with 30 trade associations and membership organisations also present Fossil fuel lobbyists dwarf the UNFCCC's official indigenous constituency by about two to one One of the biggest groups they identified was the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) with 103 delegates in attendance, including three people from the oil and gas company BP. According to Global Witness, IETA is backed by many major oil companies who promote offsetting and carbon trading as a way of allowing them to continue extracting oil and gas. "This is an association that has an enormous number of fossil fuel company as its members. Its agenda is driven by fossil fuel companies and serves the interests of fossil fuel companies," Mr Worthy said. "What we seeing is the putting forward of false solutions that appear to be climate action but actually preserve the status quo, and prevent us from taking the clear, simple actions to keep fossil fuels in the ground that we know are the real solutions to climate crisis." Well, not really *my* future (I'm too old, I'll be dead and gone before Earth Hell freezes), but I think the world could do with a few more young people worrying about the(ir) future. It probably won't serve any nationalist interests and it wont necessarily give any 'Like' clicks on social media, but hey, you never know... Your link is wrong... the US is not a constitutional democracy I'm sure someone like Gromnir can explain in better than I, but last time I checked it was a constitutional republic. Which is why the one with the most votes doesn't necessarily win an election. The "constitution" part trumps (pun unintended) everything else. Well, at least according the US government. I was hesitant to call it a point & click adventure (& RPG hybrid), since Sierra On-Line (later just Sierra) games started out using a text parser interface, so point & click adventure is a misnomer. Don't ruin a good rant by adding facts to the conversation. It muddles everything. Some people appreciate the power of simplicity. No choices, no decisions, no options, no thinking required, no accountability other than to your superior, just do as you're told. A surprising number of people appreciate that kind of life. Others might find it stifling. You asked about what is wrong with Europe? My take on it, is it has become stagnant. And with stagnation, Entropy is not far away. Eventually the circle jerking and mutual back patting will tick off people in various corners of the continent, because yeah, Entropy has that effect. The feeling of being small, worthless gears in a big machinery causes a sense of disenfranchisement (shame on me for using such pompous words). Too big, too unwieldy, too removed from people. Nobody loves a system they feel alienated from. The biggest crime (imho) is the complete lack of initiatives that could give people a purpose, unite them or just make them appreciate what they got. But, hearts are rarely won by committees (or politburos). The Balkans know what the difference between war and peace feels like. Most of Northern and Western Europe live in their own little bubbles of self containment and self indulgence. Sadly the anarchist party is currently not accepting other members. More than one makes the decision making a hassle1 point

Yes, @Gorth Conservative vs. Alt Right, welcome to U.S. politics. I am, however, getting the impression that the general populace is more socially liberal now than just a decade or two ago, fiscal conservatism remains defacto, though. Europe seems to be in a political no mans land at the moment, just kinda observing the situation. Business as usual. Russia's government under Putin remains quite right wing, however at least they have a growing Communist opposition, that is far more effective than the whole ultra pro-West Navalny situation. KPRF supports Navalny's stance against government corruption but is very much against his pro-Western views. CCP reigns supreme and is in the midst of the 3rd great "transformative" period, where society undergoes radical reforms. The first was Mao, then Deng, now it's Xi. They are gearing up for the 4th industrial revolution and are trying to fix social "extremes" (extreme poverty vs. extreme wealth, etc).1 point

It was really fun! My warlock followed a somewhat recent build posted on this forum, focused on casting fire spells (exept it is a blood mage/berserker and not an evoker/berserker), so maybe it wasn´t well adjusted to melee dmg (and I suck at adjusting equipment and buffs xD), but it does push the enemy easily to the carnage zone of the hit itself, and ONCE i managed to push back one of my clone's targets back, and it was woth it1 point

That is a question that is much harder to answer than you might think. No, I don't think any of the characters compare to Sailor Moon's (at least it's 90ies version) or Cardaptor Sakura's. That is in part because the focus after the first three episodes of the first season shifts towards rivalries between Nanoha and Fate, and in the second season between Fate and Nanoha on the one hand, and the Belkan Knights on the other. There's not enough runtime for both a focus on character development and storyline, which makes any side characters that aren't Space Cops disappear harder than Naru and Umino in Sailor Moon S, and outside of an episode and a half of Fate and Nanoha going to school together in the second season, there's not a lot of screentime dedicated to it. What is there I enjoyed, but there's always the caveat that this is really, really serious. There are some lighthearted moments, but they're far and in between. Season one tried with the character moments. Nanoha's parents have some nice moments, as do her brother and sister. There's the Alisa and Nanoha are fighting over Nanoha keeping secrets from them subplot that's just petering out after Suzuka confronts Alisa about it. For season two it was mostly having a rather unique set of villains (in terms of what villains usually are, not in terms of character tropes present), until it went full JRPG weirdness at the end. The voice acting is fine, although Nanoha's narration in the second season is really borderline forced melancholic, at least in its original Japanese. It fits the dialogue she's reading, but there's no way a nine year old actually says things like that. Which is the other thing that's a bit strange, the characters waffle around between age appropriate and way too mature for how old they are, well, something commonly found in JRPGs. All of that probably still tells you nothing at all. I also kind of lied when I said that there's nothing this has going to recommend it over other magical girl shows. It is fairly unique in one thing - it is serious, has more action than most (roughly on par with what is there in the Sailor Stars filler* arc, I'd guess, more in A's though) but it's still played as straight as they come. If that doesn't turn you off, then give it a spin. There's a chance you'll at least semi-not-hate the first three episodes of the first season and you'll see quickly enough if you can enjoy what there is even with the mood being what it is. Whether or not that's enough to make you interested in Nanoha as a character or the actual storyline is another thing. Other serious magical girl animes are usually subversions, but this isn't. The transformation scenes are too graphic, really, and I've said all there is to say about episode five. I definitely would not recommend to delay watching the rest of Sakura for it, or even skipping K-On!, because that has a much higher chance of actually appealing to you your alter ego. There's als a more condensed movie of the first series that I haven't watched yet. There's enough superflous material in the first season to see how that could be a decent idea, but I'm also afraid that the character development suffers and that it's just be a condensed action packed piece (I'll obviously watch it at some point). As far as being fond of someone goes, I really like Fate, but that feels like she was written for me to like her. *It's perhaps really a bit like this. It feels a lot like the Sailor Moon Sailor Stars filler arc. Except with characters you care less about beacuse they didn't get nearly as much development, and some really JRPG-ish tropes like suddenly appearing Space Cops in a space battle cruiser. edit: Wikipedia sure wasn't lying about the team action stuff in StrikerS, the opening is balls to the walls action when it's not showing nude girls (whatever, this is going to be the last time mentioning it unless it gets really, really bad again) and geez, a girl in hot pants with roller blades dodging laser blasts from drones and hitting them with her power first, and another girl with a... laser gun. What? Huh? What. When did this stop being a magical girl anime and became sci-fi action schlock?1 point

I would say that Obsidian is certainly capable of such a thing, but I don't know if at this stage they could do it. Okay, that sounds like I'm contradicting myself, let me explain. Obsidian has the writing chops to make a game like that, but they were a fairly high profile Microsoft signing so now they have the pressure of being one of Microsoft's star studios. Why has Playstation repeatedly bested XBOX in sales? 1st party games. As much as I hate the idea of exclusives, they sell systems. This is why Microsoft went on a spending spree acquiring studios to make games for them. Now, I'd love to think that Microsoft would take a hands off approach with Obsidian. "Hey folks, that sounds like a great idea, here's your funding, we'll leave you to it. You know what you're doing." Let's be real here. If this were a smaller crowdfunded or self-funded game, I could see it. However, with being a high profile Microsoft studio, there are expectations. Disco Elysium is a niche game. It's a great and successful niche game, but niche nonetheless. I can't help but fear that stuff will be shoehorned into the game to make it appeal to a broader audience. I hope I'm wrong.1 point

That was the idea, yes. And you're right, it's not just Guard Dog, either - I have seen and personally heard that old "they're the same" line what feels like literally a thousand times over the past ~5 years, a rallying cry for that "ah, **** it" attitude that is so dangerously prevalent in this country. I won't lie, I think Democrats are by and large incompetent at best or self-serving status quo maintainers at worst who either lack the ability or will to actually meaningfully accomplish anything half-decent for anyone, and that really sucks for the literal tens of millions of people in this country that are stuck in terrible dead-end situations without the time, energy, resources, and/or opportunity to realistically be able to make any positive changes, while the majority of our politicians just yuck it up. I don't want to support almost nothing changing, but that's the awful choice I find myself desperately clinging to in the face of the alternative that we have seen. And if you really think filling up every single government position with the most cartoonishly incompetent and awful people for each job is still perfectly well and good after the absolute circus that we were forced to endure where almost every institution, tradition, and value that we as people were supposed to hold dear was brutally violated over a period of four years capped off by our president provoking an illegal takeover of our capitol while simultaneously filling up both our courts and the Pentagon with hacks all in a increasingly pathetic attempt to cling to power...ay, karamba - I don't even know what to say to you. Did he need to have actually succeeded for people to have finally noticed that things are not just "same old politics"? No, I will not - cannot - see both sides as "being the same" until at least the worst of that rot is cut off, crushed, and finally burned for what it is. When and if that happens, I will be more content to let that old "they're the same" line slide. Rome wasn't built in a day...but it also didn't fall in a day, either - these things take their toll.1 point
