Found out I've been shortlisted for an interview in a couple of weeks, but I need to prepare a 10 minute presentation on any random data set I want to use. So now I have to find some open source data set I might find interesting for playing with. On other notes, I'm thinking I should have looked further for fabric glues than the one that turned out to have a 48 hour cure time...3 points

I just wanted to say big thank you Obsidian for making one of best games I ever played in my 20+ year gaming experience. I was very surprised when I heard that sales did not come as well as scores from reviewers and users, which really made me sad and I understand why PoE 3 may not happen in similar gameplay style. I would like to point what exactly made this game my personal ultimate turn based tactical rpg for now, but surely not everyone will agree with some of them due to different preferences. Similar games I already played (sorted by most liked): Divine Divinity Original Sin 2, Jagged Alliance 2, Temple Of Elemental Evil, Wizardry 8, Planescape Torment, Baldurs Gate 1-2, Dragon Age 1, Wasteland 2, and many less popular/liked indie/older TB/RPG games. * Real-Time With Pause / Turn-Based (choice). I am fine with RTWP, but definitely a big fan of turn based. What made PoE 2 so special, is fact that it gives you a choice between these two modes, so both preference sides might be happy. Some gamers will reject right away even a great game, just because of this one thing, they do not like RTWP or TB. This is first game that I found with such feature (not counting Fallout Tactics or later update of Pathfinder series) and doing it so well. Yes, I saw that this update was nothing special for many players, but this was mainly voice from RTWP people or PoE 1 familiar (used to it). From point of view by turn based fan who played PoE 2 in TB mode as first playthrough and compared it to many other TB games, even if PoE 2 was not originally made for TB foundations, it was converted very well (I am not comparing it directly to RTWP mode, it is just like I see it as TB only). PoE 2 has great potential in their detailed combat gameplay mechanics, so TB update was great move, but I guess too late. Most important was first impression before and during release. You see, I heard about Deadfire, but after PoE 1, it was not on my priority list. Then I heard about TB update somewhere just by accident (what? PoE 2 TB? it can not be true! I must check it!) a few months ago (about 3+ years after release and 2+ years after update). I will not comment here if TB is better than RTWP, it is all about giving a choice, well done in both modes (I assume from reviews that RTWP is good for RTWP players). It is just preference, each mode has its advantages and disadvantages, each gamer will have their own. * Level Scaling (choice). I am fine with fixed difficulty, but definitely a big fan of level scaling. What made PoE 2 so special, is again fact that it gives you a choice between these two modes, so both preference sides might be happy. I did not notice such feature in other games (did I miss something? maybe hidden deeply in game options?). I know that probably most players hate level scaling (infamous Oblivion and similar - personally it was advantage for me), but I am the one from that other side. I like when game keeps challenge (no matter if I am too late for the party due to my higher level progressed in other quests) and I am not wasting time on not intersting too easy encounters, even if loot or experience reward is not worth it. I also like exploration freedom, so if game is "non linear" (in fact, semi non linear) open world, then I can truly go almost everywhere in my own order of adventure, not just where game forces me linearly in (semi) "open world", but sure, it is still limited by some other quests (for example you can not leave first island right away). Is level scaling better than fixed difficulty, depends on preference. What matters here, is again a choice. * Ready and custom companions (choice). I am fine with ready companions, but definitely a big fan of possibility to make fully customized ones. What made PoE 2 so special, is again fact that it gives you a choice between these two concepts (including mixing), so both preference sides might be happy. Most games offer ready or custom companions only (there are some exceptions, where you start custom party and get additional ready companions later, sometimes temporary). I personally prefer own custom party that fits my vision (and possibly can be extented by later ready members), even in a cost of losing some content of the game. Additionally, players who want only story related companions with rich personality, might be interested in second play with experimental custom party. What is better, depends on preference, but what matters here, is again a choice. * Full control and auto AI (choice). I am completely not a fan of auto play, and I always want full control over all party members. What made PoE 2 so special, is again fact that it gives you a choice between these two concepts (including mixing), so both preference sides might be happy. Some games give only full control, some give only auto AI (as far as I remember, Fallout 1-2? yeah, some of you probably "love" when companions break your tactical plan, some maybe count it as rpg personality), and some gives you few default AI behaviors that can be modified with your control in cases when needed. What is better, depends on preference, but what matters here, is again a choice. * Own, interesting, thoughtful, detailed, useful, mechanics system. What can I say here, to not go with too much information that would look like whole wiki for the game? Earlier, Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 was my best bet as foundaments for interesting/thoughtful/detailed mechanics system (yes, I know 5.0 is most loved right now, but it borrowed what was most important in 3.5 and simplified the rest - definitely better for pen and paper easier play improvement, but for games it depends on preference). DnD 2.0 was too simple (not many useful choices during level up, not many abilities during combat except spells limited by resting). Other custom systems were usually heavy inspired by DnD or badly balanced (many useless things) or not much detailed (just hit, damage, no flanking, no disengaging attacks, very few statuses, very few useful abilities, not much meaning damage types, completely dump stats for classes, no multi-classes, item type limits per class, and similar things). PoE 2 seems to be inspired by DnD like other rpg games, but has a lot of own, interesting, thoughtful, detailed, and useful ideas in whole system. I guess not everyone will enjoy complexity (due to not much time, only story focused, only want to relax, only like to just hit things, or other reasons) with many aspects and usable abilitity choices during combat, which of course has a meaning mainly on highest difficulty or when someone like to plan best possible strategy/tactics/puzzle (even for simple encounter, additional challenge, how to do it without losing any health or in less turns as possible). Now, other advantages. * Weapon alternative modes (modals) and 2-4 possible sets. This brings nice variety into weapons (and also shields) and more options during combat. * Enemy weaknesses and strengths. Most enemies seem to have 1-2 damage type vulnerabilities and resistances (this also brings some variety into armors). * "Choose Your Own Adventure" books inspired events. Cool addition to gameplay, extended with atmospheric sounds and illustrations. * Ship management. Another cool addition to gameplay, giving extra place to manage. * 5 switchable difficulty modes. I am not sure if anyone tried first two easy modes (maybe for RTWP pace it makes sense), since normal seems to be already easy mode and veteran like normal, when compared to other games, but well, 5 possibilities to get your best fit is better than usual 2 or 3 (where normal is sometimes too easy and hard might be too hard), including option to change it during play, so you do not have to start from the beginning. * Graphic style. I am not a target of all this fashion for colorful/flashy/cartoonish/caricature/childish graphic styles (it rejects me from the start, no matter how good game mechanics are), so I prefer look that is closer (can be slightly mixed, since it is about magic and creatures) to natural/realistic and thankfully PoE 2 does it well enough. * Voiced dialogues. For comfort reason and PoE 2 english voice acting is well enough. Now, some disadvantages. * Difficulty. Not sure about RTWP, but for TB, game seems to be definitely too easy, making actually highest difficulty the only reasonable choice, even for first time PoE player (maybe Veteran if someone never played TB games before). Seriously, I do not feel like I am hardcore gamer, but when I compare other TB games, normal feels like easy enough for all easy modes, veteran maybe like very forgiving normal, and highest like some challenge, but thankfully, it can be changed. * Description details. While description interface is nicely done, descriptions itself in 1 per about 4 times, are lack in details like numbers (for example, "better accuracy", but how much exactly? +5? +10? sometimes it is mentioned, sometimes not), explanation (for example, what are some key differences between summons) or additional effects (sometimes some effects are not mentioned or their work not precised, so you realize it with surprise after use). It often forced me to minimize game and use wiki or sometimes even precise google search, to know more. And you, what makes this game so special for you or what things are made better, when compared to other similar games (I guess there were already many posts about it, but I would appreciate some discussion here)?2 points

Andrew Lloyd Webber has become so attached to his pup Mojito during the pandemic that he said he needed to figure out how they could be together always, even on the plane when he travels to America. He said: “I wrote off and said I needed him with me at all times because I’m emotionally damaged and I must have this therapy dog. “The airline wrote back and said, ‘Can you prove that you really need him?’ “And I said ‘Yes, just see what Hollywood did to my musical Cats.’ “Then the approval came back with a note saying, ‘No doctor’s report required.’”2 points

Who else thinks that adding a beastiary would be cool. you could document all the different enemies (journal entries would be added once you kill the insect them for the first time and entries for creatures like the koi fish would be found in labs), and each journal entry could have a brief description of the insect as well as what environments it prefers and maybe once you kill enough of the same insect, the entry would update to add weaknesses (for example, if you kill 3 soldier ants, the entry would update to say that soldier ants will be neutral if you are wearing full ant armor). what do you guys think?1 point

When going for Survival I would recommend using Ngati's Tusk at some point. Hunter of Hunters ist a superb enchantmet. With 22 Survival you'll inflict -10 to Reflex, Fortitude and Will in an AoE just by being there: theres no hit roll, it just gets applied to all enemies in range. There's no immunity either and it stacks with everything. The dmg bonus of Mohora Tanga is very low, even with 20 Survival. Not worth it imo. I don't know how Ruata's Walking Cloak scales. But at 20 Survival you are about as fast as with Boots of Speed (+25% Stride) - so I think Ruata's gets +0.5% Stride per point of Survival. It stacks with Boots of Speed by the way. Edit: haha, I used Ruata's Walking Cloak, Swift Hunter's Garb, Bubble the Cat and Boots of Speed with Fast Runner, Long Stride and Fleet Feet on a character and it was pretty hilarious Stride.1 point

Can't see Lanfear being all that important in the appearance sense in the TV series- unless they end up doing Age of Legends flashbacks or similar*. Elaida seems a reasonable guess, given the casting of Elayne. *spoiler it, for safety sake1 point

I feel like I've gotten as far as I can without consulting you guys for the next step in regards to design. Starting Point I honetly LOVE that it was possible to spawn (and trap ) the player in the area from the get-go. Unless you guys disagree I'd like to keep it like this. However, there's still the question of exactly which point in the quest it's best to start the campaign... As if the player just entered the Temple of Toamowhai for the first time. (Forcing the Tyrant of Decay fight.) As if the player just completed the Tyrant of Decay fight, starting the conversation with the apologizing guard. (2), but skipping the conversation with the apologizing guard. The first thing you would do is talk with Humaire. Spawn the player as though they've defeated the Tyrant of Decay and had the introduction dialogue with Humaire. I think 1 would feel the best from a story perspective... the remaining dialogue in 2-3 would miss some context, or feel weird as an introduction dialogue (with 2 being by far the most akward I believe). However, in 1 you'd have to face a hard fight before having a chance to recruit adventurers (or recruiting them through not-very-seamless scripting). 4. Brings you imediately to being able to start the encounters, but might feel akward regarding dialogue/quests? Starting Level & Experience gain I agree with @Elric Galad here: Another argument in favor of this is that SSS quests are Lv16 to begin with Though I can see a case for starting level of 19-20. Equipment / Money What gear goes to merchants, what is given to the player by default, what goes as rewards? Also, how much starting money - enough to get the build going but not maxed out? A couple 100k? Soulbounds Some conditionals for non-SSS Soulbounds cannot be fulfilled, such as sailing into a thunderstorm with Lord Darryn's Voulge. We could either... Skip the impossible conditionals. Set all non-SSS Soulbounds to max level when they're collected. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I think there are two ways we can go with this mod in general. Either we treat this as a real campaign, in the sense that you gradually gain levels and better equipment... or we let the player start with max level, gear, etc and just let them go wild. Two suggestions based on this: Start at Lv16, starting gear is one of each Armor & Weapon type of Superior quality (all uniques are sold by merchants/encounter rewards), Soulbounds will auto-unlock only impossible upgrades. Start at Lv20, with all (non-SSS) unique items, (non-SSS) Soulbounds will auto-unlock all stages. What are your feelings on this, everyone? @Elric Galad@house2fly@Kvellen@Hoo Btw, should I make a thread for taking feedback in the general/strategy forums as well? I have a hunch people over there might be interested as well.1 point

There's always some concern when key figures leave a company, but I'm not panicking, if that's what you're asking. It could wind up being a benefit. With new leadership RGG may be more inclined to shake things up. If there's one criticism you could level at RGG it's that they've stuck to a formula (albeit a really good formula) too much. We have seen some changes with LaD going the JRPG route, but underneath that it's still a very familiar game. I guess we'll see when LaD2 rolls around.1 point

Imo it is not worth it. It's only a (lowish) additive dmg bonus and you can use skillpoint for something better like Arcana - unless you want to play a supersneaky ranger of course. Stuff like Xoti's Sickle which grants up to (and in extreme cases even more than) +60% dmg (via Religion) or Keeper of the Flame which also scales with Religion (but its burn AoE) are more worth the skill investment I think. Stuff like Religion, Survival (St. Okamu's Mercy) or Metaphysics (Chromoprismatic Staff, Essence Interrupter) are not competing for points with Arcana, Mechanic etc. so it's not that much of a either/or situation with the other useful "active" skills (like mechanicsm arcana etc).1 point

Meh, if Taiwan is invaded it's taken. Just plain and simple too close to China. No one should have any illusions about that. It isn't the difficulty in taking Taiwan that stops China, it's the consequences for doing so. The classic role of the carrier in any conflict involving close to parity powers (largely forgotten when they've been consistently used against 'weak' powers over the past 70 years) is to sink the other side's carriers- and provide local air superiority outside the range of your land bases. Difficult to sink the enemy carrier known as Fujian province, and the entirety of Taiwan would be under an AA umbrella situated there let alone the mainland airbases. Good luck getting air superiority there using carriers alone within a realistic timeframe to save Taiwan. OTOH, if you want to enforce a retaliatory blockade, or shoot up some small airbases illegally stuck out in the ocean or whatever...1 point

Does this guy look like he can be scared? Watched Steins;Gate episode eight. Not sure why you guys said the show needs a couple of episode to get going, it's been really interesting so far. I love this kind of stuff though, so that's probably just me. The pacing doesn't bother me. It's also a really good thing that I find the premise and developing story interesting so far, because Okarin remains infinitely slappable in his treatment of Kurisu, she's still putting up with his crap all the time and Daru... yeah, never mind, and to top it off, we've just added Moeka who refuses to talk to Okarin by anything but text messages even when she's standing right in front of him. I would not blame her for not talking to Okarin because nobody should talk to Okarin, but that's not her issue. She doesn't even attempt to talk to anyone else. On the bright side, I finally got the character names down, so that's great. It's also really telling that the only character I like so far always says tuturu and has brain functions barely above a mentally handicapped person. It makes her endearing (somehow that sounds wrong, like having a pet, but it is what it is...) and at least Okarin isn't a complete ass to Mayuri. It's his only redeeming feature. @Bartimaeus you could try watching without sound to the point Moeka shows up as regular character, then turn sound back on and immediately delete anything related to Steins;Gate and burn it down... she had no Erica-style outburst yet, but I think texting Okarin while standing right in front of him looking all stupid in the process has that beat.1 point

I don't feel Might critical for weapon attack in general, cause it is additive with all these weapon quality mod. It is neat for healing, but practiced healer or Chanter bonus healing done chant makes it also a bit less important later. PER can be abused in various way to get more Graze/Hit/Crit, which helps from getting more Interrupt to Weapon special effect procs. Your character is optimized for this, so certainly not stricly inferior to 15 MIG / 20 PER (and such a small variation has a low impact anyway)1 point

Very true in the vanilla game. But the Balance Polishing Mod reduces smoke veil to 1 guile, if I remember correctly. It's worth using if one plans to play an assassin.1 point

Now that's a reference that will leave a lot of people confused. -
Smoke Veil does cost 2 Guile, not 1. You forgot to factor in the Powel Level scaling of Crippling Strike. It gains 5% base dmg (meaning multplicative dmg) among other bonuses like more PEN and ACC. Auto-attacks do not scale. Because of that it is not really worth it to use 1 Smoke Veil (2 Guile) and then auto-attack instead of using 2 Crippling Strikes. At least at higher levels. One could compare 1 Smoke Veil + 1 Crippling Strike from invisibility with 3 Crippling Strikes - but I guess the outcome would be even worse. Crippling Strike is a PL-1-ability (even when upgraded it counts as PL 1). At char's PL 7 (that's at max level of a multiclass without any further PL boosts) it will get a bonus scaling of 7-1 = 6 Power Levels. If you use stuff like PL-food or other power level buffs it's more of course. Power Level scaling mechanics are here: https://pillarsofeternity.fandom.com/wiki/Power_levels#General_effects That means at PL 7 Crippling Strike will have 30% more base damage, 1.5 more PEN (+2 PEN it already has by itself, so 3.5), +6 ACC and the affliction will last 30% (base) longer. It's worthwhile to use Smoke Veil + Assassinate if you can use the Assassinate bonus on multiple enemies at once (e.g. with a spell) and/or in order to make sure you really hit something which is otherwise hard to hit (for example if you need to apply Gouging Strike to a really tough boss and then hide and let it bleed out). For the average encounter this tactic isn't very effective in a party setup - just as Kaylon said.1 point

have discovered a new fix for reading gd posts. whenever he goes on one of his, "they are all bad" benders and adds, "feckless and," we just read as "honorable but," and sudden the crazy from the post disappears. we has done this issue to death though, so am just gonna do uncharacteristic and take the opportunity to recognize genuine feckless is gd's muted response to the clear abrogation o' rule of law and human decency when considering trump actions at the border, in portland and regarding january 6, in spite o' fact he manufactures outrage over biden comments to reporters. should be embarrassed. isn't. the problems biden and Congress face are enormous. perceived incompetence is kinda expected. am nevertheless not gonna argue biden's competence, but am also recognizing that when we listen to the claims from critics o' what biden shoulda' done in __________ or regarding _____________, his shortcomings don't seem near as bad as they does when viewed in a vacuum. am personal one o' the biden critics btw, but at worst he is the banal kinda incompetent we do not lose any sleep concerning. y'know how many calls we has received since biden became President from colleagues and reporters regarding questions o' whether biden were doing unconstitutional? five. has not been potential end of democracy in the US issues neither. trump were different. in spite o' being retired, during the trump Presidency we were fielding calls with disturbing frequency. anybody who suggests an equivalency 'tween trump excesses and biden thus far is, at best, indulging in space cadet levels o' hyperbolic. no surprise who would be doing such. Yeah, but instead of using it for a bit more (single target) damage it is - in my experience - often better to use it with hard CC. Especially on PotD where defenses of enemies are higher and health pools are bigger. A hard CC does "take out" a certain enemy right away no matter the health pool and buys you a lot of time. In case of mind control (dominate for example) you not only take out the enemy for some time but also gain sort of a summon. Sure, the added crit damage and PEN from assassinate won't matter at all - but the higher ACC (maybe even combined with other ACC buffs) makes it so much more likely to actually hit even high defense targets (and those are usually the most worthwhile to turn). So I would argue that Assassin itself is very useful - but in this example (Maia as Ranger/Assassin) it's not that impactful. You might be able to take out the first threat a bit earlier - but what about the second and third? PEN aside imo it's more impactful to use all that Guile for 3 Crippling Strikes (300% all-multiplicative dmg) instead of 1 Smoke Veil and 1 Crippling Strike (+50% additive dmg, +200% additive if Backstab is used from point blank). There's one thing about assassinating with something like an arquebus though: high numbers per hit are just fun. And fun is important, right? I can see Assassinate on a target with Takedown Combo be really cool. Use Dragon's Dowry from stealth/invisibility after you AC used Takedown Combo and the target should be in real trouble. But thinking about a fun and more effective way to use a Ranger/Assassin... what about using it with Thorny Roots? High Chance of immobilizing a whole bunch of enemies right away for a rel. long time and doing decent AoE dmg, too (+4 PEN might be what this ability needed). Stop them, then shoot them. Doesn't sound too shabby to me. Has anybody tried?1 point

Objectively FB getting hacked would be bad news for everyone given their Orwellian tendencies and propensity for making dummy accounts on non users. Subjectively, getting hacked couldn't happen to a nicer company and maybe, just maybe, someone might decide that deliberately adding security holes to everything so employees of TLAs can do a bit of virtual panty sniffing on the side is idiotic. Don't think it's anywhere near confirmed though, and it's pretty easy to fake having hacked FB since a lot of the account data is fundamentally public (and of course they'll happily sell it themselves to pretty much anyone, so you could get genuine FB data by hacking multiple 3rd parties). Thought and prayers to Raithe though, without fbcdn half the meme content of the internet is down.1 point

Yakuza: Like a Dragon. It's gut. Not sure about jRPG combat - I always through that action packed brawler was a nice balance to running around and chatting. As is, the game is overall low energy - though I do appreciate how hilarious the skills are. Liking Ichiban quite a bit. He is just as entertaining as Kiryu, just in a more derpy way. Also returned to Starcraft2. Finally after over 10 years, I have a PC that can run it well... Turns out, that my time spent in casual coop mode, actually made me a better player. Finally can comfortably multitask. Completed Wings of Libery on brutal, and outside the last mission I didn't have much trouble with it - while previously I have been struggling on hard. Some observations/thoughts: It is actually not possible to enter the Rebūtara Pass from behind, so you are effectively stranded on the island for the playthrough! (imo a feature, not a bug!) Opening the Legacy History menu cannot be done in the same sequence of scripts as character creation, one will take precedence. Maybe this can be set with the "script-coin" as well? Currently you have to fight the Tyrant of Decay straight away. Before having access to stores/hirelings. This is a bit brutal to fight solo so I'm thinking one of two options: Instead of initializing the quest to where it is atm, push it all the way to stage "Speak with Humaire", thus skipping Tyrant of Decay. Add new script-coins that instead fire the OpenCharacterCreationNewCompanion script. Maybe the initial coin could also spawn a "hireling menu"-coin in the weapon rack after picked up, which in turn would spawn another "hireling menu"-coin, and so on. This way you'd get up to a whole party for the fight. But it does not sound very seamless, tbh.1 point

Bump! Turns out you can actually set which specific scene to play when starting a new game Secondly, I made a script hook for triggering the necessary stuff: Conditionals IsInScene Player AR_LAX01_0002_Arena_Lobby IsGlobalValue b_Character_Creation_Complete EqualTo 0 ('b_Character_Creation_Complete' is ordinarily set to 1 in the prologue, now we know that this is not a vanilla playthrough!) Scripts GiveItemsToObject [weapon rack] s_ItemTrigger_S4_Armoire GiveItems LAX01_Trinket_Muatus_Head 1 CallGlobalScript s4_QuestInitialization OpenCharacterCreation s4_QuestInitialization is basically a global script that sets up the necessary quest variables so that the SSS quest chain can proceed correctly, and is also required for the arena guard cutscene to actually trigger... StartQuest [The Proving] SetGlobalValue LAX1_n_talked_to_steward 2 SetGlobalValue LAX1_n_Main_Quest_01_Stage 1 SetGlobalValue LAX1_n_Main_Quest_01_Stage 2 ActivateObject [The lever that opens the door] 1 s_ItemTrigger_S4_Armoire is an item masquerading as a simple coin, except it triggers a script when it is picked up! (It also disposes of itself instantly since it has "IsCurrency: True") Currently though it only triggers a global script which I've set to increase the Player level to 16. This has to be done separately from the scripthook which triggers Character Creation, since finalizing a new character annoyingly sets the Lv to 1 and Experience to 0... The whole "coin in a weapon rack" is the the smoothest solution I've got so far...1 point
