The Sailor Moon Says channel just posted this: And so, on the back of Serena and Darien's comments here, now seems like a better time than ever to bring this up. This may come as a shock to all of you, but...3 points

Joe Biden finally recognised the Armenian Genocide, and good on him for it too. Despite the talk that it was going to happen I thought he'd chicken out like Obama did, when push came to shove.2 points

But it's only like 60 hours (200 episodes รก 24 minutes, net runtime between 18 and 20 minutes). Less if you skip all the stock footage. No, seriously, that's fair, in that case you'd probably really wouldn't enjoy it. The best parts of Sailor Moon are (in)arguably the slice of life parts where you just follow five funny teenage girls doing... a whole bunch of silly things, and sometimes they study, get turned into giant tennis balls, deal with children that (literally) fall from the sky and when they're not busy with anything else they save the world. Heh. Sounds like Puella Magi Madoka Magica could be more your thing, that's technically the same genre as Sailor Moon, just a completely different take - and it's short (12 20 minutes episodes or two 2h runtime films, depending on what you can stream or want to watch - films look better, but are the same thing). Whelp, we tried. Looks like the Sailor Moon club really is coming to an end. Sorry, can't help with that. Future Boy Conan looks like something I could easily have liked, but it never got a German dub, so it's really missing from my "seen in childhood" list of anime (that interestingly enough is really full of Takahata's work, but a lot less Miyazaki for some reason - guess not depressing enough for children? ). Nadia was on TV, but at a time when I was still watching Attack No. 1, so, yeah. Might be a good idea to put them both on the "to watch" list.2 points

as a matter o' principle, am against kneeling save as part o' a religious observance. no earthly king or nation would get a bent knee from Gromnir. am not exact ancient greek or republican roman serious, but close. have also observed, much like rbg btw, that the kaepernick inspired protests (keep in mind he originally sat, and sat unnoticed by most) during national anthem observances were misguided-- the federal government cannot fix the problems the movement were trying to raise awareness regarding. however, we have been part o' organized sports teams and if we couldn't work out a compromise our teammates were comfortable with, we might bend knee as a show o' support for our teammates as 'posed to support for anything else. would make sure that distinction were made very clear. at this point those folks who want Gromnir services, and is likely getting gratis or near that, would be unlikely to care 'bout such stuff. am the eccentric guy who retired at fifty after all. HA! Good Fun!2 points

If you have a courgette (zucchini) plant in the garden you will make bread etc from it because it'll happily produce up to 2kg a week, for literally months*, and there are a limited amount of things you can do with them- and free is free. Absolutely should be savoury and eaten like actual bread rather than sweet though. *or alternatively, get mildew inside a few weeks and never recover as happened for some reason this year to no less than 4 plants.2 points

At least all the Olympians had to take following politic free oath in order to participating in the games Olympic Oath: In the name of the athletes. In the name of all judges. In the name of all the coaches and officials. The athletes' representative then completes the oath: We promise to take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules and in the spirit of fair play. We all commit ourselves to sport without doping and cheating. We do this, for the glory of sport, for the honour of our teams and in respect for the Fundamental Principles of Olympism. Fundamental Principles of Olympism 1. Olympism is a philosophy of life, exalting and combining in a balanced whole the qualities of body, will and mind. Blending sport with culture and education, Olympism seeks to create a way of life based on the joy of effort, the educational value of good example, social responsibility and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles. 2. The goal of Olympism is to place sport at the service of the harmonious development of humankind, with a view to promoting a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity. 3. The Olympic Movement is the concerted, organised, universal and permanent action, carried out under the supreme authority of the IOC, of all individuals and entities who are inspired by the values of Olympism. It covers the five continents. It reaches its peak with the bringing together of the worldโs athletes at the great sports festival, the Olympic Games. Its symbol is five interlaced rings. 4. The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practising sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play. 5. Recognising that sport occurs within the framework of society, sports organisations within the Olympic Movement shall apply political neutrality. They have the rights and obligations of autonomy, which include freely establishing and controlling the rules of sport, determining the structure and governance of their organisations, enjoying the right of elections free from any outside influence and the responsibility for ensuring that principles of good governance be applied. 6. The enjoyment of the rights and freedoms set forth in this Olympic Charter shall be secured without discrimination of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, sexual orientation, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. 7. Belonging to the Olympic Movement requires compliance with the Olympic Charter and recognition by the IOC. https://stillmed.olympic.org/media/Document Library/OlympicOrg/General/EN-Olympic-Charter.pdf2 points

Two paragraphs might not be an essay, but it sure starts like that. You've already thought their relationship through and came to what we could call an abstract. All that's missing is... a more detailed explanation and some citations. The only ones of the core cast that even have a relationship other than Mamoru and Usagi are Haruka and Michiru, and they clearly have a much better relationship than the former two, xenophobic as they are at times. Secondary characters, well, there are Usagi's parents and Naru with her Umino. They seem to be happy, but they are barely around after R. Rei with Mamoru was odd, and it always seemed Mamoru dated her because he had nothing else to do, not because he seemed to be very interested. For a while I thought Rei did that to annoy Usagi, but she seemed to have really cared, with her offering the temple for him to stay at after she ruined his room and being really annoyed at Usagi for her insinuating that she might try something (and also, like everything in this utter waste of a season, Diana goes and makes it SUPER CREEPY by offering to be Mamoru's chaperone, insinuating that she expects Rei to hop on top of him the moment they're alone). That leaves a lot of other side characters that never went anywhere, like Yuichiro, Makoto's Kenji and Ryo. I'm not sure why Ryo was dropped*. He knew Ami was Sailor Mercury, they shared common interests and Ami never expressed anything more for someone else. Except fangirling after composers and the Three Lights. I also just made the mistake of googling a bit for any other side characters I might have missed, and found a list of fan-shipped couples that could have been. I want to scour the Earth of people who think that any of the Inner Senshi in the anime are supposedly coded to be lesbian or have lesbian subtext (there is subtext in the manga for Rei and Minako). They don't and aren't guys, please stop that. Chibi-Usa has two potential relationships, one of which I don't want to talk about, and the other is Hotaru, which requires way too much mind-bending to make it work. I recently came up with an idea for one last examination post, and that's character arcs beyond Usagi. The short gist is that, if we allow the SuperS power up episodes to stand there while ignoring the rest of the season, we can reasonably conclude that almost everyone's arc is kind of closed... except Makoto and her senpai. It would have been really nice to give Makoto an episode in Sailor Stars where she finally frees herself of that. Sure it made for a fun running gag (and I answered one of my earlier questions if Makoto and Ami ever talked to each other alone - yes, they did, in early R when Makoto talks about how Ali/Ail could be the Moonlight Knight and Ami asks if he reminds her of her lost love. Makoto initially says no, but then says both love music, and Ami just falls over in embarrassment). So they do talk to each other, but they fail the Bechdel test in the process. So yes, two actual couples in the core cast, two side couples that don't really show up after R, and lots of "what if?"s. For a show about five girls fighting for love and justice, that's not much, is it? There is a non-canon manga side story where the daughters of Ami, Rei, Makoto and Minako try to befriend Usagi's second child. I'm going with that. Yep. *I mean, in-universe. It's perfectly understandable why the writers dropped that.1 point

Hey, two paragraphs is not an essay! Thanks for the additional context: it helps...a little. I guess we can chalk it up to weirdities with the original manga and not being able to figure out how to adapt it on the fly in a way that really worked (particularly given that the manga material is simply...not very good). It also occurs to me that there's honestly not a whole lot of successful or healthy relationships going on in this show very much at all. Who's the best and least weird couple? ...I suppose as bizarre, inexplicable, and frustrating as they can be in regards to OTHER characters, it seems like it's gotta be Haruka and Michiru, right?1 point

That's the clip I saw yesterday that made me comment on Usagi's voice in the DiC dub. Because it sure sounds like there's an age difference here, just between middle age Usagi and her teenage boytoy. Oh, and welcome to the Sailor Moon Essay Club. Here's your membership card, member #2. Shiny and gold, like Ami's. Heh.1 point

Me: "What cha doing?" Hubby: "My plane is starting to look clean and like a plane should!" Me: "...that's not a plane. Where's the fuselage? Vertical stabilizer? There's no wings?..." Hubby: *rolls eyes* *smacks me on the top of the head* It's an old Millers Falls hand plane he bought used last year, kinda like the one above. He's sanding the rust off/sharpening it etc. This is why we hardly ever went anywhere even when young and I had to entertain myself with things like jigsaw puzzles and computer games.1 point

The way S2 ends is really odd. In the original airings, you had to wait 5 months to get those two episodes that actually properly ended the season. Doesn't seem like the best planning to me, .1 point

Should give it another go now that they've added NPC camps, because boy, was getting thralls tedious in the original beta release. Ironically though, I feel the game has mostly been regressing, rather than advancing when it comes to the base systems. All the additional crafting stations are just a nuisance (gotta fit them all *somewhere*, feels like just lazy workaround instead of properly dealing with atrocious crafting station UX, I guess), combat is as broken, if not more so, as it's ever been. But they removed much of the cheese tactics, so now you're more at the mercy of the game's shoddy hit detection and teleporting enemies. But I still play the game, though I rarely venture into combat heavy areas, or dungeons, anymore as that experience, solo anyway, is just...not good. Building stuff is where it's at1 point

The odd part of the last link is how it completely ignores the factor of viral load. You're more likely to get a severe case if you inhale 100 aerosol droplets than if you just inhale one.1 point

As long as Olympians are allowed publicly wear religious symbols and pray, I don't see how bending the knee, rising the fist or wearing black ribbon to show your world view is any different, but it isn't support for human rights movements which IOC has banned political symbolism with exception of some religious symbolism in the games even when that symbolism supports ideologies in Olympic Charter. Of course IOC could have just banned political gestures that support movement that go against Olympic Charter, but that would be bad for the business. It is easier to sell 'ban of all politics in the games' than Olympic values of equality, peace etc..1 point

Quarterstaff has a base dmg of 18-24 (avg. 21) at 8 PEN while Concelhaut's Draining Touch has a base dmg of 24-32 (avg. 28) at 7 PEN so I would argue that would be better - if you are willing to use the grimoire-switching trick to keep the Draining Touch after successful hits? Not really highest dmg per hit but nice spammable weapon dmg output that maybe not many have discovered yet: You can combine a Helwalker with a Berserker and use Amra + Efficient Anguish to apply both Wanton Gore and Carnage to the initial target (and not only enemy bystanders) - because Froce of Anguish/Efficient Anguish pushes the target into the Carnage area after applying the initial weapon dmg. That means you'll get an extra +33% raw dmg bonus from Carnage and +33% slash dmg bonus from Wanton Gore if you crit (or use Riven Gore for only 25% but the instakill of enemies with less than 50 health left). This cumulates into very good damage per crit imo. Around 150-200 for Efficient Anguish (including Turning Wheel and Lightning Strikes). This cries a bit for Swift FLurry/HBD because of the crits though but Lighting Strikes also works of course. You can top that with Bloody Slaughter against Near Death enemies for the additional +50% crit dmg. Is that whole character concept great for soloing? Not really... Berserker Frenzy is just too risky. But fun with that good spammable dmg!1 point

I'd never support such acts, as they are inheritly flawed and demand other cultures and nations to follow suit of subset of a US culture.... That's disrespectful to say the least. But non-US bound people know that US is very ignorant and general populace more out of touch with basic realities of the world than most of the other countries1 point

Just looked it up, she was in her early 30ies. Not bad. Usagi had two different VAs in the German dub. The first season was the same woman that does Lisa Simpson in the German dub, which is really distracting while watching Sailor Moon. Her replacement also sounds like Usagi's age (or should I say Bunny in this case?), a bit softer and less shrill, which was a nice change. First season Usagi also had a little too much of a... uhm, German accent*. I mean, not much, and there are far worse examples (mostly in regular actors though, not in voice actors), but it's there. Pluto had three different VAs (one of which went on to voice Seiya). Ikuko takes the cake though. Five different VAs (three "regular" ones and two that voiced one episode each - not that Ikuko showed up much after R). *Without context that's probably a little strange, right?1 point
-
The VA was weird after getting used to the Japanese voices by now, but it's okay-ish. I just clicked a bit through the Sailor Says! Channel and dear god, Usagi sounds like a 60 year old woman. But yes, she doesn't really sound like a 14 year old girl. Shinji does, more so, huh? Literally in the Japanese version, what with the voice of Haruka... heh. @LadyCrimson Maybe the Professor will convince you? Hmm? Or maybe not. It's also kind of a fake out because that guy won't show up until you're like 90 episodes in. Hmm. Not helping, am I?1 point

The 5 continents thing always cracks me up. Massive discrimination against penguins. But yeah, that's non political given that sport is 'meant' to be a pure contest between individuals that excludes anything other than their individual (team) prowess and that's what they're enshrining. Doesn't and didn't always work out that way though, of course.1 point

https://ryu-ga-gotoku.com/20210507/enus/ Are we getting a new Judgment game? If so, I hope they differentiate it more from the Yakuza games. Judgment was, for all intents and purposes, a traditional Yakuza game with some superficial "detective" stuff tacked on. I like beating thugs up with bicycles as much as the next guy, maybe more, but I'd like Yagami to do more actual detective work and less beating fools with bicycles in a sequel.1 point

Berserker/blood mage is pretty rough on early levels and you need to get a lot of health regeneration items and use savage defiance later on. Concelhaut draining touch and siphon also helps you to stay alive. Wear tree trolls stiched cloak, voidward and ring of greater regeneration and maybe Tekehu for moonwell spells to keep you alive. You can visit anywhere you like and get instant feedback on how wise move that was. There is also opportunity to talk your way to higher levels or do ship bounties before exploring the map any further. I often do the ship bounties first and get to level 12 before neketaka. With dunnage and fort deadlight you could push it even further.1 point
