  1. Surely for lumberlasses, it'd be Timber...? ... I'll get me coat.

  2. Kind of a harsh and clickbaity title, but this does confirm the early Anandtech review. tl;dw: Really hard to see the value of buying this in almost any scenario over Zen3 or Comet Lake. Intel does cut into AMD's lead in production workloads, but AMD still leads, even when core counts are even. This does nothing to move the needle on gaming, even slightly regresses vs Comet Lake in some instances. It's weird seeing Intel at a process deficit. I've been building my own PCs for over 2 decades and Intel ALWAYS had the process lead, even when AMD had better chips, like the good ol' Athlon 64 days. Intel really needs to get their fab situation in order so they can compete with AMD TSMC on more even footing.

  3. Hurlshot enjoyed it. I enjoyed it. Some random person on Steam hated it. All criteria met for being rated excellent.

  6. Uhm, of course good sir! *quietly drops bruce-slash-sharpie.txt into the recycle bin* PallaPalla is serious business but she's nowhere close to pulling off a Telulu and ripping out the pure heart crystals of what looks like all of Tokyo.

  9. One of the characters on the crew calls her a walking heart attack (literal, actual dialogue here) because she's, well, attractive. Or at least, Beka (the pilot) thinks so. The engineer who built her body sure does so too, and that's the basis for all sorts of hijinks (one of the funnier ones is Rommie asking if he was wearing gloves when he made her body - it's less creepy and weird and much more lighthearted in context, although the implication remains there). The entire interaction was meant to highlight that she's not used to having an actual body and interacting with people, the ship itself - and the AI - is fairly new, or at least that's the assumption until Harper (the engineer) finds a backup of her personality hidden away, where a different captain was on a secret mission that did not end well and her entire personality was scrapped and rebuilt afterwards. This is about the time the actual "main" plot really begins - the one that really goes nowhere somehow. Like... everything. Man, f*cking Tribute. And no, while I would agree with Beka that Andromeda is pretty, that's not what makes Rommie so great. It's also why I mentioned fictional character, because I crushed hard on Rommie, not her. She plays a different character in Stargate SG-1, and there she's just the character she plays. I get what you mean. It's the same for me with cetain other genres. Not sci-fi or fantasy, but anything that's supposed to be funny, like sit- and romcoms. I'd never watch a sitcom without being prodded. It's also true for most western animation, had you not recommended Steven Universe I'd never have bothered after the first look at it... and BoJack Horseman I just watched because a friend badgered me into watching it.

  10. Fourth and final episode of Sailor Moon, Catch Pegasus: The Amazon's Trap. Good lord, the animation is so terrible. If anything, you undersold how bad it is. Also, I'm so glad this part of the show is over, these guys are really truly the worst. Here's a collection of 'nice' screencaps I put together, for history's sake:

  11. I've pretty much done a complete 180 on Lwaxana Troi. I despised her and everything she was in. And then... I don't know exactly what happened, but she grew on me sometime in DS9, and after eventually rewatching TNG I found that I didn't mind her as much as I did. That episode with her having telepathy problems where she runs around thininking Picard has filthy thoughts about her cracks me up every time (Manhunt, second season, I think). She's still in an awful lot of bad episodes, don't get me wrong. She just became a lot less annoying. Erp, like Chibi-Usa...

  13. Yeah, that was pretty messed up by Tiger: he seemed even more creepy than usual in this episode than the rest of the season that I saw him. Also, unlike later, I did watch all of the first episode, since I was curious about the stock footage. It was greaaaaat. Seems to happen in both English and Japanese: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/gk2qo6znvndqpc9/YpS51mE0wr.mp4 Very strange, since, again, only the first four episodes (and my episodes are all from the same source, so that's a weird coincidence that it was these episodes in particular that were missing!). Minako and Usagi abusing the hell out of Artemis and Luna in tandem - good job, girls. Those cats have it coming to them, especially Artemis. Well, not really, but Chibi-Usa with the stone-cold, "...Welp, I guess she's handling things pretty darn well." Even though she has a serious horse problem, I'm pretty sure I've liked Chibi-Usa a bit more this season than I have Usagi. At least Chibi-Usa's still a twerp to explain some of her more childish regressions...Usagi doesn't have that excuse as much. Tiger Horse is making me cringe so bad right now, why is he so much creepier now than he is later? Do I already have amnesia for SeasonS even though I haven't even finished it yet? This dancing sequence with the minion, though... Also, we have Matoki's sister targeted in the first episode, then Matoki's girlfriend in the next? This poor guy - with all the random people that were targeted this season, friends and family alike, I'm surprised Fish Eye didn't target like Shingo or something at some point. (e): Good lord. Well, I guess I should've watched the next episode preview first before saying that, because I guess the next one is going to be Usagi's mom... What the hell?

  15. Thanks. Yeah, looks like the terrain is going to be a bit soggy for a few days still.... https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-56485246 "Warragamba Dam discharged 500 gigalitres on Sydney - equivalent to the volume of Sydney Harbour." (this is to prevent the dam from collapsing completely, a predictable flood, where you can warn people being preferable to it simply bursting) "No deaths had been reported but thousands of people have been evacuated and troops deployed after days of torrential downpours across the country." (good statistic so far, as most deaths in such situations are Darwin Award nominees) "Honey, you forgot to mow the lawn again!" (no, not actually a quote from the article, the picture is though)

  16. As far as I know, that discrepancy between the housing prices' growth and real wage growth is the same across the vast majority of the developed world, especially in larger cities. I'd be surprised if the situation isn't by and large the same in Australia. It sure is throughout western Europe, at least. While the specifics of the phenomenon vary by region(here in Sweden dubious lending practices have had an effect, back in Portugal foreign speculators and very low wages did not help) the main cause for the phenomenon appears to be ever widening income inequality and eternally low interest rates. Just to say housing is a problem everywhere, so it wouldn't be a reason not to move to NZ.

  17. There's an R Movie, S Movie, and SuperS Movie. None of them are important to the story in any way, but they're fun and solid enough (well, I haven't seen the SuperS one yet). @majestic That does not look like good art, although it's a little difficult to tell for sure at the small resolution. Regarding Steven Universe:

  18. I'll recommend M&MX to you, though I'm not sure if it's what you are looking for. The devs' inspiration was World of Xeen, so it's turn-based and grid-based, though it does have some modern QoL improvements. Anyway, I enjoyed it, so if you liked the early turn-based M&M games (1-5) then this may be worth a play.

  20. Just had a good chuckle at my favorite dialogue (sort of) from Reboot. "Next you'll be telling me that you've seen the user." -- Bob "There is no user. That's just mass psychosis engineered by the Guardians." -- CGI Special Agent Fax Modem And with that I'll be off for the night, I guess. Should get some stuff done tomorrow today. Eh, and there's that ridiculous meeting. Ho-humm. edit: Oh, how could I forget? The end... "The web is out there." - CGI Special Agent Fax Modem

  22. Man this thread went places. I may respond more later, but I'm taking a break and don't have the time to post too much. 0% now that I've been challenged. Really though, we're watching less because Super S is just so boring compared to previous seasons (and because I'm more busy with work and she's got things to do). If S highlighted what I like most about the show (and 90's anime in general), then Super S is doubling down on what I dislike the most. I could take the pedo horse or the sexual predator crew if the rest of the show wasn't just Usagi and Chibi-Usa fighting over and over before getting into a fight with a legion of largely forgettable circus themed monsters.

  24. It appears that as demanded by the British press- at least prior to everyone piling on their vaccine instead of the Russian one- Vladimir Putin has had his first Sputnik shot. Those two ought to do something at least. The big problem is that the only way to get the money to buy a house is to already own one- or have your parents own one- since you can borrow against both. A lot of property speculators in NZ chain purchases and have multi million dollar mortgages so are cash poor despite being asset rich and owning multiple million dollar properties. They absolutely rely on the tax breaks because they simply don't have the cash to pay tax, annual tax bills of 30k are going to be extremely hard to pay. Inevitably they will try to pass the cost on to their tenants, but they simply won't be able to make 200$ p/w increases to cover costs. Then, when they come to sell they'll have to pay ~200k as a lump sum. I'm not a massive fan of our government's previously feeble response, but these measures should have the intended effect. Won't send the investors to debtors prison, but applies a certain cost for their rampant speculation, over leveraging and consistent rent gouging. That piece is literally hours old, the announcement was less than a day ago.

  25. Can't speak for IC, but that's not at all how that works for me. Or worked, to be honest, I haven't had a crush on a character in a long time. Pointless to try and put it into words, but generally, it was a very elevated feeling of attachment while watching something, not a butterflies in the stomach or an any actual feelings of nervousness when the show's up again. It's probably like a crush when you filter out any physical attraction or having the ability to interact. I'm not sure I can describe that any better. Doesn't really matter, in the end, I guess. 18 year old me would have strongly disagreed, but I'm a bit older now. Guess I learned that real people outside of your family aren't all just out to hurt you. Just most of them.

  27. No, it definitely wasn't Keiko. Maybe there isn't another character and it just feels like I'm missing someone even though I'm not. The only other non-Q (and Vash) characters that I can think of are all Klingon and DS9 didn't change my opinion on Gowron, Lursa and B'etor, or Kurn. I take that back, it did make me like Gowron less.

  28. Exchanging e-mails with a former colleague over the past few days. He has a job opportunity in Mexico. I had a pretty good time working there a few years ago. I have to say the Mexican government makes getting a work visa very easy. But the job is in Nuevo Laredo which is.... not so nice. Probably why he's having a hard time filling it. The thought of designing mmWave 5G networks definitely appeals. But it would be such a huge disruption to my life. Besides, aside from my few entrepreneuial ventures I think my working career is done.

  31. My sister lives in Australia, she'd literally have to sell both her houses there to buy a smaller one here, and take a wage cut of 20% too. Realistically the only way- literally- to buy a house is if you already own one and can borrow against that or at very very least aren't paying rent, hence the biggest buyer sector at the moment is- literally- people who already own 6+ houses and can leverage those properties for borrowing. If you're trying to buy a house you're spending ~25k on rent if you're lucky, need to save ~20k to keep up with the deposit's appreciation alone, and that on a median wage of 70k, before tax. For the typical person that leaves 5k to spend on everything else. Then they wonder why the economy is tanking despite all the money printing and low interest rates. Actually, there was some progress today. If you were a property investor you could (lol) write off borrowing costs including interest against tax- which of course a normal mortgagee could not. That has been removed, but up until literally today if you were a property investor you typically paid, literally, no tax on either those 30% p/a capital gains nor on the rent you charged the serfs renting your land. Oh yeah, coincidentally, the average number of properties owned by the average New Zealand MP is 3+ even without counting those hidden away in trusts etc- and there is a grand total of one MP in parliament who doesn't own a house.

  32. I tried that, but it didn't work. Similarly, that link you just posted also doesn't work - it's still the tiny version. I don't think it's the forum software's fault (surprisingly), but I think a problem instead with hotlinking from the wikia. What happened to poor Naru? Looks like a shapeshifter-approximated version of her, .

  33. That's from the Sailor Moon SuperS special, which I have not seen so far. It's not the SuperS movie, anyway. I don't know what's up with linking the Sailor Moon wiki images. The original is larger, you can see by clicking on it and then using the link to go directly to the wiki image. Or click on the non-embedded link. https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/sailormoon/images/4/4e/218123.jpg

  34. It is not just you two. I am on Xbox One. Many, many people are having the crash issue either while playing or when attempting to save. I have a report in and they keep asking questions that should have no part in causing the issue. They seriously need to fix the game as it is bugged to high heaven at the moment. 1 star since you can't rate any lower and will stay that way until the game actually works.
