  7. Escaping from Alcatraz was amazing. They loaded 2000 of us onto a massive ferry, then we all jumped off and swam across the bay. It was cold and a bit terrifying, but we swam with the current and simply flew through the mile and a half. Seriously, my swim times were close to twice as fast as I can manage in the pool, which was great because I was going to struggle if I was in that water longer than the 39 minutes it took to make the swim. After that the bike was a breeze. It was 80 degrees and sunny in SF already, which is rare, and I got my feeling back in my feet and hit the hills hard. I really enjoyed the 18 mile bike, I was passing people and posted a very good time. The run was also a blast, as I felt stronger as it went on and was pushing hard right until the last of the 8 miles. After struggling in my last race, it felt great to have a strong one in SF. We ended up getting some Italian food in North Beach to cap off a very good day.

  9. With a public holiday today this was a weekend full of indulgence. Or, in other words, unhealthy food for the win: Well and some take-out ribs from out local Italian place. Might sound weird, but they make them like pizza by throwing the ribs into the oven and burn them to a cinder. Well, kind of. 300+ degrees for a few minutes make them blackend on the outside and super juicy inside. Then they get a bit of sauce on top (a hot one in this case). Compared to the usual way of doing them with extended low temperature they stay a good deal chewier, and obviously there's no smoky flavor but it's full of pure Maillard bliss. Honestly, biting into these is as close to a tastegasm as you can come.

  17. Uhm. Ehh, can't do that. This is a limitation of current mechanics. Avenging Storm was only checking for it's source (which had to be "weapon"). Phenomenum has changed the AttackEnemyOnEvent event type to OnDealsDamage. And I think that's all we can do here, since Avenging Storm indeed considers that that Chillfog has weapon source. Oops, a value of 10s (that was used for testing) has slipped through. I have set it to 1.5s now (according to the poll) and re-uploaded the mod as v1.0.1. You will have to re-download the Extended version now. (note: delete the v1.0.0 Basic and Extra that you already have first). Additionally, Pheno has fixed the subclass icons, and I have re-uploaded the respective module.

  20. @Phenomenum: So, I tested the Extra-Version of Backstab now and found the following: Like before, Backstab with an AoE weapon does only apply to the initial target because invisibility and stealth drop right afterwards. I think this is good. If you have stuff like Poweder Burns you will do no Backstab because Poweder Burns always hits first, removes insivibility/stealth but itself can't get Backstab bonus. I think this is meh - you can't use Backstab when Powdr Burns is on. This is the same as with the old Backstab though - not the fault of the mod. Blunderbusses only produce one Backstab instance no matter what. This is excellent! Effects that proc off a weapon and do an attack roll - for example Blinding Smoke - do get Backstab bonus if you are invisible/stealthed when they hit. Stealth drops immediately so no harm. No multiple Backstabs this way. We will come back to Blinding Smoke though. Now it comes: Vanishing Strike... Vanishing Strike gives you an invisibility that doesn't drop. Thus, all hit rolls that qualify for Backstab will get the raw damage bonus. That is very powerful. Exception: blunderbusses and other multiprojectile weapons still only proc one instance of Backstab per shot. This is good. But: all AoE hits from mortars, WotEP and Rods that are <2m will all generate a Backstab instance. No matter how whimpy the base damage of the hit is, it will alwys get the full raw damage bonus of Backstab (by design). Now... Blinding Smoke generates tons of hit rolls because every enemy can emit a Blinding Smoke cone. This is exponential. So if you hit 5 enemies with the AoE of Hand Mortar then 5 enemies get 1 Backstab each from the weapon hit and then can get 5 additional each from the 25 blinding-smoke hits that can be produced (in theory). That's 6 Backstabs with one shot per enemy. In my case this can be 33*6 = 198 extra raw damage per enemy. while testing you won't reach that numbers because you need extreme luck - but you will still see a whole lot of backstabs. Like 3 to 4 per enemy with every shot you do - even on those attack rolls that don't deal damage themselves (Blinding Smoke only applies an affliction). This was not the case with old Backstanb since it was +100% base dmg - but Blinding Smoke has no base damage... Stuff like Ghost Blades from Engoliero and Chillfog from Grave Calling also proc Backstabs under tha same circumstances. This was also the case with old Backstab but here the damage was lower since 100% of whimpy base dmg is not as powerful as a flat 33 raw (in my case due to PL scaling etc.) Conclusion: it's mostly fine actually - except: Vanishing Strike with AoE weapons. It is abuseable since the raw dmg doesn't care about how low the base dmg is. Is it super-OP? Maybe not because the 2m-rule helps. Seldomly you will hit a group of tightly cramped enemies. And if you can you maybe earned it. Vanishing Strike with weapon procs that are no real weapon attacks (Blinding Smoke etc.) : This is totally OP. Solution : I wouldn't fix the AoE thing now. But like the new Avenging Storm which only procs off of real weapon attacks now, make Backstab only proc off of "real" weapon attacks, too. All in all (if you are not trying to break it as I did) it feels really good. Much better especially with those light weapons as Daggers and so on. That's it from me. I should really go into QA or something.

  23. Microsoft had a whole gaggle of games that caught my eye and their game pass sounded like a tempting offer. Cyberpunk 2077 looks good and I'm hyped Keanu Reeves looked adorable pointing to the monitor and he looks genuinely excited to be there. RIP for Spiritfarer a charming little game that had the bad luck of presenting right after Cyberpunk 2077. Elden Ring looks interesting, I wished they'd show a little more in terms of game play but if its Miyazaki I know it will crush my will to live. There were definitely a lot of hecklers in the Bethesda conference. Now that I think about it, it seems like they had that problem with their past E3 conferences, (I remember specifically a few years ago a woman wouldn't shut up when they were presenting the Brotherhood update for ESO) I don't know if its their fans or paid actors but it can be pretty annoy when they interrupt near every few minutes. Ikumi showed off the greatest pose ever. I rarely gravitate towards horror games but Ghostwire: Tokyo, now that's something I think I can get into. Doom looks great but I still need to play the first one. Other than those nothing else really jumped out at me. I was hoping to get some more news on ES VI or Starfield but alas I will have to wait

  24. After reading some more about the game I'm also curious as to why they are calling it BG3 instead of just Baldur's Gate hyphen/colon subtitle. I know others have brought up the same point before but after reading more articles I'm now inclined to agree. Also, multiplayer is in but no word on how combat will play out yet.

  25. Yawn? You mean you aren't as wildly enthusiastic for it as Bethesda's audience? That audience would make Kim Jong Un blush at its unwarranted adulation. Though the audience reaction isn't quite as funny as Bethesda probably managing to miss the boat on the latest online fad, again, and probably managing to do it twice with the same game.

  28. He has done a lot of cyberpunkish movie projects (Matrix, Johnny Mnemonic, hmm, that semi animated wotsit and something else too?) but I think most people just like Keanu think he's excellent, recently for John Wick and more generally because he's lasted forever without being a typical Tom Cruise/ Brad Pitt type star.

  32. To be fair, the reason Trump survived is because of the mess of candidates leading up to the primaries. Traditional candidates were fighting over the same overall electorate that, as a group, were the majority of the party. Meanwhile Trump managed to touch the base of the party through clever marketing (he had more unpaid screentime than the others because of his on-display ego), and because people didn't believe that he'd follow through on half of what he said (IE he won't actually shutdown the government over something petty...). If the democratic party can get it's **** together and coalesce around somebody without to much ridiculous infighting, they should pull out a fairly easy win from the population that was already anti-Trump, plus those that he's lost due to various factors (for example, farmers who've lost money for almost a year because of tariffs with China).

  38. Well, we also know what Swen has said in interviews, how that will translate to the final game is anyone's guess, of course, but it seems that he is trying to avoid BG3 being considered a direct successor, which is odd as they could have called it "BG: The White Dog" (I'm so witty it hurts), and gotten a free pass on that front, but for some as of yet unknown reason they chose not to do so and name it BG3 instead.

  41. Pathfinder pretty much is 3rd Edition D&D with slightly different names and teamwork feats that may or may not work properly in the game. It's really best to look up decent feat combinations and if they even work as stated (much less work as intended), especially if you want to use the game's pre-built NPCs, since they're all average at the very best, outright terrible in some cases. Getting some value out of Valerie takes serious effort. Oh, and do yourself a favor and bring an alchemist along. Unless things were patched in the newer versions their bombs are ranged touch attacks that aren't affected by spell resistance. Those big scary monsters that show up every now and then that your normal characters can only hit when the stars align? Heh. Throw, boom, win. They even come with switchable damage types in case something's immune to your regular booms. Oh and sneak attacks are so easy to do that you can give anyone who ever attacks in melee a level (or two, or three) of Vivisectionist Alchemist or Rogue to take advantage of it. Those juicy level 20 capstone talents that look awesome? Yeah, most of them... pale compared to extra d6 or d8 on every attack.

  45. for those still wondering why josh no longer contributes on the boards am recalling how josh discovered deadfire might attribute were not working as intended only immediate before release in spite o' fact the quirky implementation o' might were a frequent topic o' discussion on these boards. have personal criticized developer overreliance on board feedback given fact we never provide meaningful consensus on any debated issue. have observed how even if we managed consensus it would be opinion o' only the most hardcore soopernerds as 'posed to the average game purchaser. have sympathized with developer board frustrations. nevertheless, we do see value in the boards. is too bad josh, as part o' his post mortem, did not recognize how his overreliance on a new toy (game telemetry) perhaps contributed to a few o' the game problems. 47. keep in mind you may hire an extra party member (or two) for the fight in question. based on feedback observed over the past +year, almost nobody who is having difficulty with port maje acquires a hireling. keep it simple and inch towards daylight. that said, deadfire is potential a long game. two hours of gameplay will be relative inconsequential long term. if you have the coin, you may retrain characters at inns or via shopkeeper ui. don't need to restart from start. is no reason to hang onto a difficult build unless you want to. HA! Good Fun!
