There are apparently large rats around here, especially in summer. Seen one a few times outside, eating my wildlife sunflower seeds and just scurrying around the fence. They physically look like a cross between a very large dwarf hamster and a squirrel when they're eating, it's quite adorable. Mostly only saw the very occasional tiny rat/mouse down South.

Some people might see such and call a poison/exterminator or something.
Me, just like with everything else, as long as I don't see them indoors, all I wonder is if I could trap/catch one and turn it into a pet*, because they are a lot cuter than the typical breed/ones they sell at pet stores.  :shifty:

*edit - no I'm not truly "serious", but they sure are cute.

Have you tried whacking them with your sword or shooting them with your bow for some extra experience and gold?

rats is a menace for homeowners. any opening they may get their pointy little heads through is a point o' access and from there they may cause many thousands o' dollars o' damage. why do rats like to chew copper wire? dunno. don't care 'bout "why" unless knowing helps us prevent it from happening.

squirrels, in our opinion, is no better than rats. we had a neighbor who filled a decent sized bird bath in her backyard with what amounted to squirrel chow. our neighbor liked to watch the squirrels.

Spoiler

the f'ing squirrels swarmed the endless buffet neighbor lady provided and then they retreated to our roof to stash their booty.

when we pointed out that in our attic we had squirrels, squirrel poop and a substantial quantity o' the same medley o' seeds and nuts she filled her bird bath, our neighbor found the situation amusing but made no effort to change behaviors. were a constant battle squirrel proofing our home. tenacious buggers and unlike rats you need dispose o' squirrels humanely in CA 'cause is the law. stoopid hippies.

Just got back from 4 days in Vegas. We stayed at The Circa in downtown. It was fancy drinks, good food, and some very warm workouts. This one was called Paint the Town Red:

One of the highlights was swimming at the UNLV pool. You can get a guest pass for $10, and it is a super nice campus and facility to check out:

I peed on the Berlin Wall at Main Street Casino:

My wife really wanted to make the run down to the Vegas signs near Stratosphere one morning, but it was about 97 degrees by 7 AM, so she was struggling. It is about 2 miles there and 2 miles back, but in the heat it can be a real grind. Heat doesn't seem to bother me as much.

I always like to swing by Oscar's steakhouse and order these meatballs. They remind me of my Italian grandmother.

It sometimes feels a little post-apocalyptic when bunches of them (5-10) wander down the streets together and aren't phased by other people or vehicles. I guess it's better than panicking and smashing their faces into vehicles at full speed, but they really just don't care.

I went fishing yesterday with a friend of mine. When I first started, the float landed a bit to close to some reeds so I moved it a little bit and immediately got a bite. The next two minutes I caught 4 more fish before one swallowed the hook so far down I had to kill it, and it took me 30 minutes to get that one free. My friend managed to catch up eventually but he was quite jealous there for a while 😄

what species?

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

G & I got back from vaca last night. We had a great time in Calgary and Stampede was a lot of fun. We took the back roads home through North Dakota & Minnesota and stopped often. It was a great time all around. Going out to work with her today. My job is to keep the patients distracted with apples and sugar while thermometers get shoved in their rears. We're taking B out to dinner tonight. Life is pretty good!

Im always bummed when that happens, and I dont kill anything unless I absolutely have to, so I use one of these whenever a fish swallows one of my hooks:

Theres a groove where you put the line, then slide it down the fishes throat to dislodge the hook, and it works 90% of the time. Failing that Ill put a pair of scissors as far in as I can get and cut the line, then release it to its fate.

Weekend work again, have to remember to log out of Youtube when my friend sends me all her Russian music.  But on the bright side, I can more or less sing Любэ - Комбат by memory now.

Just common european perch, and one roach, there are pike in the lake, but I'm not fishing by those areas since I don't have a metal end for the line (It's called tafs in Swedish, don't know how to translate it) image link

Looks neat, but it wouldn't have worked to save the fish in this case, the hook had pierced the stomach and judging from the smell even the gallbladder, he must've been really hungry. It looks alot less fiddly than my little pliers though, so I'm going to see if they are sold anywhere here. 👍

Yep, although not sure of the relevance.

Excitement today was realizing the devs package the release for client A but all the release notes mention client B.  Devs really are insulated from client interaction far too much.

Do you want to know why thats a consideration? But dont say yes if you might get offended by what I want to caution you about because I am have been in a similar situation to you

Electronic Arts just told me to my face that I don't have any friends 😢

On a more positive note. Despite never bringing the subject up, my boss decided to give me a raise. Not just keeping up with the inflation, but going beyond that and being an actual raise. I must have done something right. I wonder what 🤔
