  1. ugh, there could have at least another nominee in the indie category that was an actually game.
  2. Since you're suppose to be a foreigner in this game (I think), I would like for them to go the Arcanum route the many different backgrounds. They don't have to affect the story that much at all, but it should change some dialog choices here or there when talking to some NPCs.
  3. It's just a strange lie. Pretty sure Baldur's Gate was the first RPG to have RTS squad management. There were squad based RPG on the Genesis/SNES, they played a lot like JRPGs on the handhelds play now, turn based combat without positioning + direct control of one unit on a world map was common for the ones I played. They play nothing like Infinity Engine games. Does nobody remember Ogre Battle from the SNES? That's one of my favorite RTS games of all time, and it's actually a pure RTS that controlled well with a controller. On the map, speed and positing were two of the most important aspects in that game. In fact, you can move multiple units and switch units on the fly in that game. No, not well, not fast or precise. It's clearly not a well controlled RTS, selecting multiple units, with fast and precise movement. In Ogre Battle your units on the map are "squads" but they're not really multiple units in the way they control. Using the d-pad to control a cursor is even more horrendous than using an analogue stick. Considering how many RTS games I played over the years, I found the control well enough for a console game. And it's not like many of PC RTS game had perfect controls. I personally found Infinity Engine movement and responsiveness slow and clunky, and the bad path finding and weird collision detection didn't help in my cause either (which I know isn't an opinion shared by all, but that's how I feel).
  4. Like the other said, it's basically BG2 where you click and go to your destination. I'm still hoping the devs change their mind and go the Fallout/Arcanum route for World Map Exploration.

  6. Can I just have a simply house as an option? If I'm playing a rogue or mage, then I really have no interest in being a lord of uninteresting peasants or looking after some stinky stronghold.
  7. Your rant makes no sense what so ever. One of the biggest PC companies today (Valve) was pretty much built into a multi million company due to mods. Team Fortress, counter strike, Day of Defeat, Dota, etc; all of these games started out as mods that ended up making millions throughout the years. Also, many of today's videogame developers started with modding. Modding is how they got into the videogame industry, because it's one of the best ways to build of your resume. You want examples of mods helping sales? Games like Just Cause 2 and Arma 2 still sell well because of modding. The Day Z mod for Arma 2 became so popular that the developer of ARMA 2 hired the guy who made the Day Z mod.
  8. Besides their refusal to release some Japanese games in other countries, I think Sega is one of the best 3rd party developers out there. Not to mention Sega cares a lot about the PC community, so we could actually see more Atlus games on the PC. If they buy Atlus, then Atlus USA could translate some of Sega's Japanese games (while I think Atlus USA is it own company, they are still a sister company to the Japanese Atlus).
  9. BG2. Beyond that, i agree. Eh, Mass Effect 1 had some of the best graphics for its time, and KOTOR 1 looked as good as any other Xbox/PS2 game at the time.
  10. Nice. I REALLY hope that includes 2 handed flails like the heavy flails in NWN.
  11. Kind of relevant to the discussion. TB goes over the risk of donating to kickstarter.
  12. Yeah, I was talking about liking them more. So you played all the characters in BG in one play through? I never did that because I would only lose xp on them. I've played BG1 now, and honestly, no, I barely paid any attention to the slew of companions beyond the team I initially set up. Why? Because they were so shallow I wasn't invested in any of them. They get a paragraph of backstory, a few lines of meeting dialogue and some combat barks. That's not a character. I was really surprised how utterly characterless they were. In BG1's defense, that's how WRPG companions were back in the days. The Gold box games, Avenum, Wizardry series, M&M series, etc. were early-mid 90 party based RPGs that either had party members you created from scratch or NPCs who rarely talked at all. Developed companions weren't a norm until games like Fallout 2, Torment, and BG2 came out.
  13. Weirdly enough, Deus Ex had nearly the same shooting system, yet that game is somehow "one of the best games ever." Mass Effect 1 had a similar system as well; you wasn't effective with guns until you used skillpoints.,
  14. I really liked Enserric from NWN Hordes of the Underdark. I really wouldn't mind having a talking sword in this game, but not as flashy as Lilarcor though.
  15. I don't see how you can determine any class being underpowered when we haven't seen any of the combat yet.
  16. Dark Souls. Of course, that whole game was about survival and using your resources, so it fit there.
  17. I'm not really surprised that someone like Tim let the game go over the budget. Two of his other big games (Brutal Legend and Psychonauts) went over budget because he becauses he keeps adding new and even newer things to his game. I mean, he didn't even have an idea on what the game was going to be about while they were doing the kickstarter. He's so used to making games with an AAA budget that he think about Are people really surprised about this? I personally think most other kickstarters will be fine. Tim has just never been good at budgeting his projects because he's not really good at managing his ideas.
  18. It was a useful stat in Planescape Torment IMO. While Wisdom was the most important stat, there were a lot of dialog options not available if you never raised the stat. Like the conversation you had with the woman at the beginning of the ward. And it had its uses in the D&D 3.5 games. Everybody benefited from it due to the stat giving skill points.
  19. I think this usually happens regardless of the number of characters. Some characters end up being more important than others, even in a small group. Look at PST for example: Dak'kon and Morte seemed to have more connection to the Nameless One and the story than the other 6 party members.
  20. I know Obsidian likes to use celebrities and popular voice actors for all of their games, but I'm hoping they use lesser known voice actors this time around. First, it's a good way to save money. Two, it gets a bit tiring hearing the same voice actors. Lastly, it would be helpful for new and upcoming voice actors to broaden their resume. Just having a semi popular game like Project Eternity in their resume will help them find other voice acting jobs. Just hear some independent voice actors on youtube (or even Youtube celebs like Total Biscuit); they're just as good as the popular voice actors in my opinion. As for the PC and Adventurer Hall characters, it doesn't matter to me how many voice actor sets that use, as long as they add a "No voice" option like in NWN2. Other than maybe a few voices in Icewind Dale, none of the other set voices in BG/IWD/NWN fit any of my characters. One of the great things about a minor voice acting is hearing different accents. I hope each region in PE has their own "accents", instead of accents being all over the place like in Baldur's Gate.
  21. As much as i love BG2 and its huge cast of character (who were all interesting IMO), it was actually one of the things Josh Sawyer hated about the game. http://www.formspring.me/JESawyer/q/449392305086952316 As much as it disappoints me a wee little bit, this is what they are doing. I don't really mind in the end.
  22. * Double post. Ignore this one.
  23. That entire paragraph is him trying to change what the term franchise means so he can call his new game (that has nothing to do with Torment) a Torment game. And what exactly is wrong with that? I don't understand why you people in this topic are getting so bent out of shape about this. if it going to share some of the same ideas, some of the same theme, and maybe have some references from Torment, then I don't see any problem with the new game using the name. Planescape is word that is a trademark, not Torment.
  24. Oh God, No. Please don't[ make another character like MInsc; he's irritating. if they have to copy a character personality that's crazy, then I wouldn't mind having another character like Xzar, who was crazy in an insane evil way (thanks to his awesome lines in Baldur's Gate 1).
  25. Why would they "command undead"? Priests aren't necromancers, they're the opposite. They're the antithesis of necromancers. Priests should be consecrating the defiled corpses perverted by necromancy, or attempting to save the souls enslaved by necromancers if that's how necromancy works in a given context. I don't know much about priest in PE, but I'm pretty sure clerics had the ability to control and create the undead in D&D. Some evil clerics were basically divine necromancers depending on their skills and domains that they picked. I'm assuming their going to based Priest from this game off the clerics from D&D 3 and 4. They're already said that Priests would be more like a D&D Paladin. Weren't D&D paladins clerics with less spells anyway? That's basically what I remember. Only if all you focused on were spells and spells only, and even then it's not correct. http://www.d20srd.or...ses/paladin.htm http://www.d20srd.or...sses/cleric.htm http://www.d20srd.or...ses/fighter.htm I was being sarcastic. I meant that Paladin weren't anything special in D&D. I felt Clerics did everything better than them besides the ability to used Martial weapons from the start and the use of holy avenger.
