  1. To be honest it's only worth playing once. Go in spoiler free and expect lots of awful combat. Well to be fair, I've heard praise for the game for it's writing, never for combat, so I still have an interest in playing it. I love New Vegas to death because of it's writing as well as it's RPG aspects, but it gets only modest appraisal from people for it's writing. As such, I'd be very curious to see what the games look like that have absolute critical acclaim for the writing. Planescape Torment combat isn't bad, it's just bland. It uses the same pause and play system as baldur's gate, but you'll mostly be right clicking instead of using any tactics. It's not as flawed as something like Arcanum or something that's mechanically bad that it may bore you to tears. People are exaggerating about the amount of combat though. There is definitely not as much trash combat as Baldur's Gate 2, NWN, or Pillars. Almost all of it can be skipped, and you're only required to fight 4 battles in the game if you're going for the standard wisdom/intelligence build. That's certainly better than some of the amount of boring trash encounters that you're forced to fight in the other 3 games I mentioned.
  2. I'm a bit disappointed in the content of the wiki. You think a story driven game/franchise like this one would have more information on its wiki, but there is only a few contributors on the site.
  3. I doubt it. Moving to Unity 5 is a lot of work. It's definitely something they should try after the game is finished though, since U5 offer some nice performance increases.
  4. I would also personally like to see NPCs from other places at the stronghold depending on your actions, just like in Neverwinter Nights 2. Perhaps you give certain jailed NPCs a job, or even recruit some special npcs to live in your strong hold if they have no where else to go... Basically, make the stronghold feel like a small town with a few quests and interesting NPCs. It doesn't have to be grand or big. I could settle with something similar to BG2.
  5. I doubt the main games will ever been turned based, but a spinoff with turned based combat similar to Divinity and ToEE would be glorious. I'm also glad he actually noticed the problems that many people had with the main story and companions. Improved story element is the main improvement I want to see in Pillars of Eternity 2.
  6. We have a lot of people complaining about how horrible the combat in PoE is, so this story mode will be perfect for them.
  7. Pretty much the first game that came to mind when I read this topic.
  8. I just find it strange how there is no racism between elves and humans. Neither race can reproduce, elves dominate the "hut Dweller" culture, and not to mention that elves can live longer than humans. You would think that last reason would give some elves a superiority complex.
  9. I seriously doubt that any of the short stories will take place during the game time since they probably want to leave main game details ambiguous due to player choice (Heck, you can kill Sagani when you first meet her if you want to).
  10. Most of this stuff is just flavor I don't care about. Buying the base game for $60 is good enough. However, I buy my AAA games when they coast $10 anyway. =\ And save your rebuttals. I heard them all already.
  11. I would be interested in reading these short stories, but the first one is about the most boring companion in the game. =\
  12. Shadowrun returns has been on sale for how many times now since its release a 2 years and a half ago? We're also talking about a game that costed less than half of Pillars of Eternity during its release.
  13. I'm fine with the whole game not being fully voice acted, but I wish all the lines were voiced for character that do have voice acting. It's kind of annoying to go from a voice line to an unvoiced line. This was fine in a game like Baldur's Gate 2 since only the first line for characters were voiced. Obsidian certainly improved this aspect with the 2 new companions in the White March since 95% of their lines were voiced.
  14. This is something they're planning on doing in the sequel. Like gkathellar said, it's not possible in the current engine.
  15. More than the 9 we already have? Seriously, man. I hardly manage to give everyone we have so far, a ride. Most of them sit at home, while I stick with my favorites. Both in terms of personality as in combat value. Proper reaction n the other hand, is a valid point. I would love to see people react to a Bleak Walker or a priest of Skaen, just to give two examples. Especially within the party, since - at least - Durance should have an opinion. Baldur's gate 2 manage to get away with 17 companions. It's certainly helpful for the people who enjoy multiple playthoughs. From what I played of White March, Obsidian is actually getting better with reactions though. My priest of Berath was actually able to be friends with a group of Fampyr. I assume any other character would have been attacked on sight. Small changes like this is a great start. How can you forget Deekin, your faithful kobold companion in both NWN expansions?
  16. Judging by the way NPCs n the game treat Death Godlikes or Wild Orlan player characters, they probably wouldn't react at all. But on a serious note, other games usually handled stuff like this before. In fallout 2, you were prevented from entering Vault City if you had Marcus and Lenny in your party. Or you couldn't enter Besides, even if you walked into towns or cities with non kith in your party, I doubt most people will bother you since you're obviously strong enough to kick their asses. In the white march, most people will make some snide comments towards you for bringing the Devil in the city, but they certainly not going to do anything to get rid of her.
  17. The game seems pretty vague about her past life. I don't even think we get to learn what race she used to be or how old she was before her transformation.
  18. I know it sucks, but there worse things in BG2. I guess Josh wanted to bring back some of the insane CC moments.
  19. Attack a party member or an enemy with a weapon. That fixes it immediately.
  20. Actually, that doesn't seem like bad idea at all. I would love to pick which combination of weapons I would like to focus on.
  21. 1.Bring back utility spells like knock, sanctuary/invisiblity, and detect spells 2.Redo the whole skill system. It's basically an inferior version of DnD 3.5 system's. Only 2 out of the 6 skills are useful. 3.Not being locked to a room due to combat. I should freely be able to leave a house or go to another area even in combat mode just like in the other infinity engine game. This could be abused to do certain tactics, so perhaps the enemy's health could return to full whenever you rest somewhere. PoE combat and gameplay still need A LOT of work, but the above things are good things they can start with.
  22. And a fighter can't survive keeping 5 enemies that would be a threat to the rest of the party on themself. Nor is their much point to doing so, unless you literally only have a single frontliner. It's not just about surviving, but it's about controlling the enemy and locking them in place. Locking that many enemies it places is great for me since I like to use a lot of AoE CC spells. Meh, enemies post 2.0 have a nack for disengaging and making a beeline for your spellcasters. Then they'll eat a nasty disengagement attack. Unlike other people, I actually try to get a healthy balance of deflection and accuracy on my tanks so they can actually hit people. As for my spell casters, considering I always build them as non squishy melee/spell caster hybrids anyway, they're never that far from the front lines anyway.
