What party selection system is best?
Lucas replied to Audron's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"youmustgatheryourpartybeforeventuringforth,youmustgatheryourpartybeforeventuringforth,youmustgatheryourpartybeforeventuringforth,youmustgat.", err, ok, I'll stop -
Don't care right now: I just want places and characters that make sense in the context of the world lore: if that means slavery, so be it, but if it isn't in the game, no problem for me.

Companion loyalty system?
Lucas replied to lordgizka's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Don't tell us through numbers (or "system messages" like "companion influence increased"), but show us throughout dialogue and actions(and reactions) that make sense, so that we can interpret our companion feelings. -
UI Stuff that you'd like to see
Lucas replied to cealicu_ca's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I expect an UI where we'll be able to display and select a lot of UI elements without having to scroll down (or left, or right, or up), like it happens nowadays with console games (even skyrim, for example, without the modded UI). Also, please make interface and text size appropriate depending on the resolution: there are more and more users now with a 24" inch monitor, don't ruin our poor eyes -
Project: Eternity and Characterization
Lucas commented on Chris Avellone's blog entry in Chris Avellone's Blog
Fantastic article, so many topics of discussion could be drawn from it -
And one more interview with Josh Sawyer over at Ars Technica (I saw it first mentioned by "Alex D" on the Kickstart comments page): http://arstechnica.c...classic-pc-rpg/ Now, of course this may not translate into "Eternity will feature slavery!" or "drug use in Eternity confirmed!", but we can expect quite a lot of realistic themes (as expected, anyway)

Voiced NPCs
Lucas replied to Gezzas's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If they aim to re-create the spirit of those BIS classics, I would be perfectly fine with the same (limited) amount of voiced content that was included back then; budget is the most important thing, and also how important this feature would be in order to reach a wider, general audience, if they aim to reach them too (and I guess they want to). I assume a lot of us (of course not the entire forum base) who participate in this message board played a lot of CRPGs, maybe since the eighties, so I guess we wouldn't even mind a "written-only" approach, but that's quite a "hardcore" one- 91 replies

Ding! 1.8 million achieved. Never in doubt, but still great to see

I think it's quite interesting, and touches quite a lot of subjects: http://www.vg247.com...ment_interview/ A couple excerpts: Also: More at the mentioned link. (EDIT; btw, only a few moments ago I noticed it was already mentioned in the "known information" thread, but I still think it might deserve its own topic :D)

Yep, I agree that Character Generation should be one of the highlights of the game, both for its inherent (hopefully) complexity but also, why not, for its presentation: it could also be integrated inside the game together with the tutorial (why not, if they manage to justify that kind of approach?).

Honestly, not at release (I guess they already have much stuff to do :D): I would prefer a future expansion that features a co-op campaign (something akin to Storm of Zehir: you can choose to play it single-player by creating 1-6 characters or co-op it)

The Dark Side of Romance
Lucas replied to oldmanpaco's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
:wowey: -
I like them, but you could give the option of bypassing them if your player character (or maybe any of the companion who joined the party) pass a successful check on the skill required (strenght trial, dex trial, etc....or even through dialogue) Otherwise, you'll have to "manually" figure them out

Doing party AI right.
Lucas replied to Odarbi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Hopefully they'll get it right, even though I already know I'm going to exclusively use a "puppet mode" if available (I like to micro-manage)- 17 replies

I have no problem with a flexible deadline, as opposed to a rushed release. From a development point of view, even though I don't have any experience about it, I think it's no less important to keep focus and have a precise goal and coordination within the team, also to avoid the "too many cooks" syndrome (with the project draggin' on and on...)

Time and Weather
Lucas replied to PsychoBlonde's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
A couple days ago there was a topic involving more or less the same matter: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/60235-urgency-please-have-it/ Like I said in there, I would be against a "main quest countdown", but not against some timed side-quests. It would be cool if there was a day/night cycle where you are told in advance that you'll have to accomplish something during the night (follow someone, break-in and stuff like that). It would also tie to the possibility of actually "failing" a quest, because you missed that particular timeframe (but remember, you were told in advance and it was well detailed in the quest journal) or failed at the quest itself (you didn't manage to break in, you lost track of the guy you had to follow, etc.) -
Are you serious? So people who don't like romances in video games are unable to perceive art in video games? Nice insult. Maybe you should take a look at a lot of older RPGs. They were never about examining all of human nature in all of its manifestations. Especially romance. They were about adventuring, questing, killing monsters, not roleplaying getting laid. You guys are crazy, glorifying something that boils down to a couple conversations and a sex scene. Oh but that's art right? Back in 1985, I so wanted to romance one of the members of Bard's Tale's "review board" so I could become a wizard faster Hmm...ok, maybe not.

I really enjoy narration and how it went along with some sort of "fiabesque" vibe in IWD, for example (but I also enjoy audio narration, along with the written one), On the other hand, IMO we've reached a tech level in games that also allows for a "show, don't tell" approach...But what about making use of both in a tasteful and pleasing way? That would be nice

An adequate mix of most of them would be great, as long as they make sense; also, their motivation about joining you should be convincing enough. Personally, I like a mix of "mentor", storyteller/scholars and crazy lunatics (but with a humor edge) that the other companions (and maybe the PC him/herself) just can't stand. Makes for some good bantering
