  1. The mainpage has now been corrected, only talking about the US version one. But don't worry... The other ones are coming..... ....SOON
  2. Hehe, for now, the headline on the mainpage is a bit too enthusiastic: infact, as of 13.43 CET (GMT+1) the patch is *not* avaiable for all languages
  3. Hmm, I have the italian version and for now I can only update the auto-patcher...Guess the real patch will soon follow for other non-english speaking countries.
  4. *rummages through his old BTI manual* Hehe, MIBL was great...I can't remember if that's the spell you use to defeat the 9999, 9999, 9999, 9999 Berserks in Harkyn Castle (my god, what memories :D)...maybe together with Magician's DRBR (Dragon Breath) Hehe, having played it as a kid and not really understanding what was going on with the mechanics I remember endlessy trying to click on the towers gates (Kylearan and Mangar's) in order to enter there, and also I passed entire gaming session wondering how I could actually get out of Skara Brae...So fun
  5. Heya, Well, I don't know much about any of the above mentioned games, but I would like to give them a try. First of all, are they all so called "Tactical Shooters"? Could any of you give me some details about each of them, the main differences and stuff like that? I recently tried the SWAT 4 demo and find it very intriguing even if quite difficult, especially because I never really got into the genre. Thanks!
  6. As I said, I was talking from a purely "computer gaming experience" point of view Tomorrow I'll turn 27. I think the first comp I played something on (another nice topic of conversation) was an Atari 2600 back in '83 or '84...Yeah, when I was 5 or 6, so I consider myself quite "old"
  7. Well, the downside for us so called "veterans" is that, posting messages like these, we are suddenly starting to feel very old even if we are still in the mid-twenties or so
  8. Personally, if I could istantly learn the required skills, I would like to cover the position of Dialogue Writer/level designer(yeah, I know it's not on the initial list). But, more realistically (so to speak ), I would love to be the "Community Relations" guy 'cause I've been dwelling on online gaming forums(mostly as a lurker, tho) for almost ten years...Yeah, I want to be abused
  9. Well, I liked the concept behind the two new schools of magic (especially how destructive you could become with certain spells :D) and also how nice it was to visit all those dimensions. IMO, the problem is that it was too headed toward killing excessive swarm of enemies (eew, even the Tarjan temple at the beginning is a costant Traveller's Tune in order to flee from hordes of monsters ) and that hindered a bit the sense of wanting to go ahead. Also, like Soulseeker, at that time I barely knew what "hello" meant 'cause I was quite too young, but luckily my father played always alongside me so he translated everything I see someone mentioned the "Phantasie" trilogy by SSI: it was really great and somewhat introduced more complex strategies to fight battles. I loved the third episode "Wrath of Nikademus", which had a very colourful and more detailed world, at least on ST, compared to the previous episode. Great memories!
  10. I never played the second episode, but I can say the third is really great and allows you to reach VERY high levels and nifty spells. I also love the feel of decay at the beginning, when you have to visit a ruined Skara Brae. I distinctly remember wandering around commenting: "hey, here is where Mangar's Tower stood!" and stuff like that, 'cause it almost exactly mirrors the town in the first episode (minus some areas which you can't access).
  11. Well, mentioned a few hours ago in another topic, but always nice to remember it Never got a console so I can't say.
  12. Oh? Didn't know that. I'll see if I can find some pics of the original boxes. BTW, I'm also really attached to Bard's Tale I because it has been my first CRPG ever, when I was just 8 yrs old and played it on an Atari ST 520 (Amiga sucks! :D )
  13. Yeah, the manual story-driven ones ("read the journal entry X") were the so called "Gold Box" games by SSI based on the Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance universe. "Pool of Darkness" and "Death Knights of Krynn" were my personal favorites and really, when some years later (like 6 or 7) I played Baldur's Gate I, I entered the /nostalgic mode because they really resurrected the genre and while using their own engine Bioware and Black Isle payed a sort of tribute to those great pieces of software
  14. First, a little background: I played UO from '97 to 2000, then Dark Age of Camelot, Star Wars Galaxies, EQ II and now I'm messing around with WoW. Also dabbled a bit with multiplayer mode FPSs Quite frankly, I'm starting to get sick of nowadays MMOGs, and more and more finding myself to return to my "origins" as an hardcore single-player gamer. I want full-fledged out plots(not some boring background stories posted on a website), interesting NPCs (not generic speaking machines) and whatever constitutes a strong and driven CRPG (or even a good ol' fashioned point-and-click adventure game, for that matter). I had great moments in UO, because, yeah, it was my first MMOG, but also because even now it's the one which gives you the greatest freedom. Thanks to the game personell, also, there was nice little quests and subplots inside the game itself, so it never got boring regarding the story. The purpose of getting together with your friends is nice, yeah, but within a meaningful environment, not some generic grinding. Hence, I would prefer a single-player game that also allow multiplayer(with a good implementation and balance, possibly). Dunno, maybe I just moved on and now my tastes are a bit different, but that's how I feel now. The only other MMOG I'll try out in the near future will be Tabula Rasa 'cause it's going to be a creation of Richard Garriott.
  15. Also, if you are not bothered by somewhat old graphics, you could purchase an authentic jewel: "The Ultimate RPG Archive", released by Interplay around...umm, '97? (shouldn't be really expensive). Titles: - Bard's Tale 1, 2, 3 (the first and third episode are among the greatest CRPG ever, IMO), Bard's Tale Construction set - Dragon Wars - Wasteland - Wizardry Gold - Might & Magic World of Xeen - Stonekeep - Ultima Underworld I : The Stygian Abyss - Ultima Underworld II: Labyrinth of Worlds (my favorite CRPG of all time) It's really a must buy, maybe mostly for those people who actually had the chance of trying them at the time of release (hence didn't consider the graphics "dated" or anything), but also for all the people out there who love the CRPG genre.
  16. Well, unfortunately they all moved on because of RL reasons; I talked about DnD because it's the only RPG I tried, but I think I would like to play with other systems or D20 franchises (SW one of them). Meanwhile, thanks for your help!
  17. Has anyone here tried to play DnD through online means like IRC? I used to play D&D but then because of RL reason my group split. While I understand nothing can beat the experience of playing it "live" among other people, I was wondering if you know some website that organize Mirc D&D sessions. Thank you in advance!
  18. Yeah, I would like seeing something "alternative"...My guess is that they would like to try something completely original (own Intellectual Property) after the unfortunate faith of Torn. Also...I still have faith in ye ol' Isometric Engine...While today's market may be concentrated on 3D, I think a badass up-to-date isometric engine combined with a badass CRPG would still do GREAT wonders
  19. Mumble, mumble...Well, you pretty much tried them all! I don't see Deus Ex 1 mentioned: in my opinion, so far it's the best CRPG post year 2000, but, beside opinions, it's a very interesting blend between genres. Wide options to develop your character (difficult to become a so called "cookie-cutter"), multiple choices to resolve quests/getting past opponents, good mix between straight on fights, stealth and dialogue options. Story is quite engrossing...Well, I just love it and can't avoid advising its purchase Don't be negatively impressed by the reviews the sequel ("Deus Ex: Invisible War") got...The first episode is a totally different thing in terms of Roleplaying and gameplay experience, and was created by one of the greatest designers out there, Warren Spector. Oh, and if you just forgot to mention you already played Deus Ex...Well, it may be good for someone else to try it out!
  20. I quickly skipped through this thread in order to avoid spoilers, but finally I'm seriously playing this game and so far I'm finding it great, even tho I'm at the initial stages. Infact, I'm currently exploring the Ocean Hotel and the atmosphere is something I rarely saw in any computer game to date (read: total fear :D ).
  21. Well, personally I try to avoid working, studying and any other thing that may distract me too much . Hence, I'm playing other videogames
  22. I'm sternly resisting the temptation of playing the game without the patch, but I don't know how further I can hold my ground . I know that it's quite playable without it, but I'm used to wait for an eventual patch (or patches) for any game I purchase just to have the best possible experience. I still have a faint glimmer of hope for the so called "content patch" but I don't think I will be able to wait for that as well if it ever happens Oh, and by the way, I'm also trying to dribble the spoilers here and there on this "General Forum" that, in my opinion, has waaay too many spoilers in it (some concealed, and that is good, but some not, unfortunately ).
  23. While I understand that is fun to have multiple party members for strategic purposes, especially during complex fights, I'm with Llyranor here: the most important thing for me is to have good story related interactions with them (romances with males or females and other relationships like yours with Carth and the others in KOTOR), being a party formed by three, four, eight or whatever. And yes, even with only another companion, if the world is then filled with interesting non-generic NPCs that would make up for diversity.
  24. Here is my list: 1. Ultima Underworld 2 (1992, Origin/Looking Glass) 2. Ultima VII part 1 and 2 (1992, Origin) 3. Planescape: Torment (1999, Black Isle) 4. Deus Ex (2000, Ion Storm) 5. Bard's Tale I (1985, Interplay) 6. Dungeon Master/Chaos Strikes Back (1987, 1988, FTL) 7. Gabriel Knight 3 (Sierra On-Line, 1999) 8. Championship Manager series/Football Manager [soccer management games) (1992 - 2005) 9. Kick Off 2 [soccer game] (1990, Anco) 10. Doom 1 (1993, Id Software) Waiting for the patch to play TSL! Lucas P.S. Honorable Mentions: - Wing Commander III and IV - System Shock - Knights of the Old Republic I - The Longest Journey
  25. Heya, This is my first post on this forum I've finally beaten KOTOR about one hour ago and had great fun, it was a very cinematic and immersive experience. I would like to discuss a particular aspect of this game, and that is the amount of items(especially armors, weaponry, grenades, mines) you can find in it. Don't you think that it was a bit too excessive in the first episode? I understand that part of the fun is to experiment with all the gear at your disposal, but in the end I(so, it's a purely personal opinion) felt a bit lost, especially because you really don't need all that diverse armours and weapons in the last stages of the game; heck, it's even true for your "companions": when I got them all, I always used the other jedis plus Carth, leaving the others tapping their fingers on the Ebon Hawk. But talking about items, I wish there could be less of them at your disposal inside a single game: this mean that you will eventually find other different items if you decide to play the game again, but not on your first try, so to take more important decisions on what to carry with you(weight limit or something like that, then...Or another system?) What do you think? Did you find the "influx of items" at your disposal about right in KOTOR? Or was it a nuisance to move among all the stuff you collected? (again, beside the inventory management itself) Lucas
