  1. So we did our long 7 mile walk this morning, it was great and well worth it but I learnt some lessons and things to avoid Firstly we weren't able to finish it due to certain delays and due to our 9 am curfew we had to take a taxi home the last 20 minutes or so. Secondly there were just far too many people on the beachfront roads ...it wasnt pleasant as you spend more time avoiding people than appreciating the actual walk. So we will avoid busy routes in future My partner took the pictures below, its a nice summary of this hike which starts off in the suburbs, takes you around a local mountain and you end up at the beach in a coastal town called Camps Bay and then you head back to town where I stay

  2. So Bruce had to share a taxi, which exposes the driver to him and him to previous passengers, in order to avoid violating a curfew which is supposed to enforce social distancing? I think everyone would be better off finishing the walk.

  6. ^ the drama. As for being out of the house - the past 5-8 years I almost never leave the house regardless. Doorstep delivery rules in my area. Saw my siblings a few times when my mom died. Few friends I had, one died a ways back, one moved out of my state, one I still see rarely. I occasionally wave at the neighbors or say hello through the fence. Social distancing to me is simply my normal life.

  8. I have made futher tests on Blood Sacrifice and it appears that it doesn't regenerate ressource exactly like described in Thelee's Gamefaq. When used, it procs following effects randomly (and causes a proportional health loss : - "Minor" Blood Sacrifice : Recover a Spell Slot from Tier 1 to Tier 3, - "Medium" Blood Sacrifice : Recover a Spell Slot from Tier 1 to Tier 6, - "Major" Blood Sacrifice : Recover a Spell Slot from Tier 1 to Tier 9. But each effect will randomly select a Spell Slot from the possible range among the Spell Slots already spent. For example, Major Blood Sacrifice will randomly choose between a Tier 1 Spell Charge and Tier 9 Spell Charge if they are both available. Major Blood Sacrifice does not select the higher tier slots in priority (that's the difference with the Gamefaq description, which is still a better description than Obsidian's , hey !). It leads to interesting consequences. Using low Tier spells will give more chance te recover a charge but can decrease the chance of recovering an higher Tier. For example, if a character has only spent a Tier 9 charge, Blood Sacrifice will have 1/3 chance of regenerating it and 2/3 chances of doing nothing. However, if a character has only spent a Tier 1 charge and Tier 9 charge, Blood Sacrifice will have 1/6 chance of regenerating the Tier 9 one and 5/6 chances of regenerating the Tier 1 one. I think the optimum (in term of spell level regenerated, of course, in certain situation some lower tier spells can be better) is probably reached by only using Tier 6 and 9 (or 7 for MC). This way, you have Blood Sacrifice has 1/3 chance of doing nothing, 1/2 chance of restoring a Tier 6 spell and 1/6 chance of restoring a Tier 9 (7 for MC) spell. The overall effect is great, but not as much as what Brilliant ticks provide. I think I will still nerf Bloodmage by giving Blood Sacrifice a 3s Recovery and a 6s sef-target Hostile effect preventing any healing for its duration (the later is to avoid the Tactician Unbending + Bloodmage WoD infinite Combo which is the only Immortality Combo remaning once SoT and WoD are tweaked). This would be sufficient while not removing the subclass its access to potentially unlimited powers. I am considering using the exact mechanic for Brilliant ticks (and a couple of similar effects) for Caster Ressources. It would prevent spamming Maelstorm every 6s and mitigate spamming of Tier 6- spells (2/3 chances of getting a Tier 6+ slot back is closer to martial 1 ressource ; even if slightly better, it comes at the price of randomness and commitment to not use lower Tiers). Also this would be good for ruleset consistency since the effect does not come from nowhere. EDIT : errr, it does not seem to be possible. It seems that Status cannot be randomized unless they com from an attack. Brilliant Ticks are not attack. EDIT EDIT : might be not totally impossible with a few tweaks (I'm going to remove ressource regen from Brilliant and put it on Ancestor's Memory instead, but as a 1-time effect)

  9. https://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Turn-based_mode Some basic knowledge about TB mode in Deadfire If you liked PoE's RTwP combat and have no clear preference I would suggest you also pick RTwP for Deadfire. Just because the game and its encounters were designed around RTwP and not TB (which was added later with a big patch).

  10. Well, they do have some leeway to dictate who they will serve, right, like no shoes, no shirt, etc. And you can use a cotton cloth, or paper towel. Mind you some people have challenges using masks, heart or respiratory problems, but you can use pickup or delivery for food. Only seen signs suggesting it here. Did get a laugh out of some dude refusing to wear one as doing so would not be manly at Whole foods of all places. Masks are great, helps to cover my ugliness

The character feels during some fights as less than 30 fps, but there is no graphics lag. Anyway deeper into the forest where i’ve found one more spell, so it should be much better now.

  14. State run economies fail because they're a monopoly, there's no incentive to compete, there's no profit so no need to innovate and workers despite their qualifications are stuck in a singular corporate structure. Tomorrow if McDonald goes bankrupt there's still several other burger chains, because there's no monopoly. Contrast that with Communist countries that nationalized their industries and there's no fallback plan. More so they fail because of ideological inspired social programs that have little value, offer no tangible results or are very poorly thought out because no one can challenge the management. In short Communist economy can't succeed, China is an exception because their economy is not entirely Communist and because they steal our IP skipping all R&D

  18. Hi @Venatoris78, let me answer in English so that everybody can chime in. So basically you're asking for advice on party composition (whith official companions) and which kind of MC (dialogue options, skillcheck options) would be nice for a (female) player. She didn't play PoE or other CRPGs yet besides Tyranny. I personally would pick Edér, Aloth, Xoti (mainly because they are the first three you meet and their classes harmonize well in a party). I like to make Edér a tanky Swsashbuckler, Aloth can be whatever he's able to be and Xoti is nearly always Priest for me. And then for the fifth one it depends if you would like to support the Prinicipi (pirates - pick Serafen), Huana (natives, pick Tekehu), Rauatai (like a mix of Japanese and Prussians, pick Maia) or the Vailians (like the East India Trading Company but with Italian/Spanish "Medici" vibes, pick Pallegina). I personally prefer Tekehu because of his class choices mostly (both are fine). I don't remember which class, skill- and stat-choices provide the most dialogue options or the most options for scripted interactions. I simply play what I like. Other players may have more details. Since the first four party members above already cover most stuff you can play anything, but I personally found it nice to play the party Rogue and "Talker" for the first time. I think if there would have been the Debonaire subclass at release I would have played Debonaire/Beguiler with "passive" skills in Diplomacy, Bluff, Insight and so on. And "active" skills in mainly mechanics (as the party's lockpicker and trap finder/disarmer). High INT, PER, DEX mostly. Debonaire/Beguiler is not only a thematically cool concept but can also be very effective at crowd control and single target damage. You can charm enemies and get 100% crit conversion if you attack them. That also means you can charm an enemy and then cast Disintegrate on them which will always convert to a crit (if you don't miss or graze). Disintegrate on a charmed enemy will not flip it back (as other damage would do). Also works with Soul Ignition. So it's not only a cool roleplaying concept but can also be very useful in combat. Beguilers don't have to damage opponents to gain focus (casting a Deception spell on enemies is often enough to refill focus - if you manage to hit enough of them) but they still can - and here the Sneak Attack and other damage bonuses of the Debonaire will help. I would go with a ranged weapon. Maybe single pistol (+modal) since it somehow fits a Debonaire for me. Other players may have other ideas for an interesting MC for a nice first run.

  19. I think it's that interesting twist of psychology that it seems the same people that are perfectly happy sending their kids to school with bullet-resistant backpacks and having to go through metal-detectors at the school entrance with a "This is the price of Freeduhm!", are causing such a fuss about wearing masks because it's "Tyranny!"... Also, for those talking making simple masks.. Simple instructions on how to make your own face mask

  20. I started to watch that Plinkett video (sounds like he's going to repeat a lot of stuff from the reg. review vids), then was distracted by something near the start. (Might've been '89, I really can't recall) Yes, he wears other outfits, but I've seen lots of convention/comic-cons vids/imgaes where he's wearing white on top and jeans. It's his comfy colors? Also, while he definitely looks older (when pics aren't all blurry, that is) he's still aged remarkably well. His voice, maybe not quite as much.

  21. Hurlshot is right Volo, its unacceptable and disgraceful that you claim you dont have any means to make a face mask. If you have money to play PC games then you definitely can wear some sort of mask....lets not be intentionally difficult with something as easy as wearing a mask. This is a virus, its real and people get sick and die from it ...you need to play your part in ensuring a healthier world

  22. I'd go with RTwP for your first playthrough, particularly if you think it will be your only playthrough. The game was designed for RTwP, so the mechanics are at their most coherent in that mode. TB is the gaming equivalent of a student who runs their French essay through Google Translate. It sort of makes sense, but there are lots of oddities that make it obvious the student didn't spend enough time on the homework. Base stats in PoE aren't meant to have breakpoints, yet in TB they do. Action speed goes from being very important to near useless for non-casters. Most galling of all for me is that you can only take one action (other than moving) per round. Some actions are free, but other trivial actions aren't. It's quite annoying that if you switch weapon or drink a potion, you can't do anything else that round. The system would work better if you had multiple action points with different actions costing different numbers of points. A lot of these TB issues would perhaps be less problematic if encounters had been rebalanced for the slower pace of combat. As it is, TB fights can take a really long time. I don't think TB is bad, but it does feel like the devs weren't able to spend enough time working out the kinks.

  23. After few days break and setting up my streaming apparatus to be able to stream PS3 games and pass through PS3 sound through my PC without delays, I've started to play vanilla version of Dark Souls 2. So far, I like it, but I do not know, if it is with the class, I've chosen (Sorcerer), but it feels kind of little bit more difficult than Dark Souls 1 and Demon Souls. Still 3 and half hour of playtime, and 12 deaths so far Most of them caused by the almighty gravity

  24. Tried Civ6. Bad first impression. Just pressed Start New Game and it threw me right in the middle between 4 city states and three barbarian camps. All were producing units like crazy, so I could hardly move since there'd be a city state warrior unit running after barbarians wherever I wanted to walk. Also there was hardly any spot to build a new city. Meh.

  25. The main pro of masks can also be achieved in humans by simply not going out when you're sick. The benefit of masks (those without a proper filter at least) comes from deceleration/ capture of droplets, which is only important if they are high velocity in the first place. Don't go out when coughing or sneezing and problem solved, the advised 6' to 2m spacing is enough to prevent most airborne transmission. The other con of masks is that it makes people feel safe when they're not. Most of the people wearing them will believe that they themselves are being protected by the mask when they aren't, but that feeling of being safer means other more effective measures get ignored.

  28. Even as we speak, the little lady is teaching her class from home. I saw some posts earlier and intended to reply if I had a slow night at work. Nope. I had two patients med out to higher acuity facilities. Insane! ...And it's not the nurses choice. I don't want to describe the situations because I try to be extra careful about patient information, even though I'm anonymous. I guess I have at least one person here who knows where I work, but I trust them implicitly and I doubt they frequent this part of the sandbox anyway. Still, have to respect privacy. ...But if I could tell! Anyhow, I appreciate the pushback. Always interesting to read people's views. Even Gromnir's, and he's about the only person who manages to get under my skin from time to time. The only thing I want to mention is the hamster mask study from... Hong Kong? I can't remember, but it entailed putting fabric between cages and blowing a fan through it. I've never denied that masks help stop droplet transmission. I think a one time use mask donned for single patient encounters is manifestly wise and evidence based practice. My point is that the way that people wear the masks makes them considerably less useful than suggested. When the cages sprout hands and start readjusting their masks, I'll buy into the theory. I don't have a lot of 10 year bets, but I'm betting the usefulness of masks will be proved considerably less effective over time when we identify all of the variables in actual practical use of a mask over extended periods of time. I know medical professionals, nurses, therapists, and doctors, who wash their outside masks like once a week and it's *impossible* not to need to adjust a mask multiple times over that period. As it is, the studies keep coming and I think we need time to sift through them and see which ones are best. After all, another of my ten year bets was that this preoccupation with surfaces was silly, and time is bearing that out already, although 10 years is 10 years. Gotta play by the rules I set when I made my bets. Hopefully I have the time to read through all the posts I've missed, but I couldn't even catch up on the stuff up to now. So, if you have a really clever mean thing to say, wait until the weekend!

  29. Wild West sounds awesome. Btw, there's gonna be Weird West from the new Studio of Raph Colantonio (Arkane of Dishonored fame). It's not AAA naturally though. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1097350/Weird_West/ As for Josh, I'd personally prefer him to keep working on his smaller project. I suspect he's the same at the Moment. No pressure, no high demands -- and this includes backers, who have their wishes too. Could be really interesting. Perhaps much more interesting than Obsidian's yet to be announced next AA/A game.

Those were usually the same ones who tried to tell them was communism was "really" like too. Usually they would just look at you like you were a particularly unpleasant mentally handicapped child that just crapped your pants.

  33. Greetings xcman04! I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing input lag with Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. I see that disabling your Steam overlay didn't seem to help at all. Next, I recommend checking the games language settings in Steam for some reason some players are set to no language, and when they set it to English, it solves the problem. To change this right-click on POE II: Deadfire select properties. After that, click on the language tab, and if your game isn't already set to English, select the drop-down and pick English. Lastly, close out of that menu and start the game to see if the problem is resolved. If it isn't fixed, some users mentioned that lowering the polling rate on their mouse has helped with this issue as well. If either of the solutions don't work, please create a support ticket by contacting us at support@obsidian.net as this forum is not an official support channel. I apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused. Thank you, and have a good day.

  34. I didn't read the wall of text, but I did skim it. Here's the part that stuck out to me: "Anyway, as I said I'm only 10 hours in and this is my impression - if someone tells me now "hey, you got it all wrong, wait until XY!", I might play on and change my mind, but otherwise I'm afraid I can't finish the game because I'm so disappointed in it's writing." The story and its tone have an arc. It's ultimately up to you to decide whether or not where it ends up are to your liking, but I'll remind everyone that Obsidian is known for their writing. I would encourage you to play to the end and identify the themes of the game before passing judgment on it. My 2 cents.

  40. good find, @Elric Galad! it means that if one wants to regen a level 9 spell it matters all the more to specifically game it, since this means you potentially have a brutal 1/27 chance of getting it back (worst case of having cast a spell from each spell level).

  41. So, Doug Ford has become a Nazi and is trying to murder people. He says businesses are allowed to refuse service if you don't wear a mask meaning families could starve because of this by him. He pulled a PM Blackface move. This after months telling us that 'masks weren't needed'. LMAO This after months of people going to the store without masks. LMAO The opne thing all politicians have in common - they love power, control, and slavery. And, love starving people through shortsightedness. I'm going to the grocery store tomorrow and if they 'refuse me service' it means I starve. BRILLIANT. I don't have anything worthy of being used as a face mask. I'm not a hospital and I ain't going to multiple locations so I can be near a bunch of people - since the point of social distancing is to avoid people. LMAO BRILLIANT.
