I'm pretty much the same, but would also add that I am also happy to pay full price for the games I like and don't wait on a sale to buy them. And to add to previous discussion, I also never ever pay any attention to Steam's collective ratings of reviews (i.e. very positive, mostly positive, mixed, etc.).3 points

Maybe they can get MS to hook them back up with Shadowrun. My dream is a Shadowrun game by Obs but that's never going to happen so gimme more Shadowrun Returns goodness.2 points

It's pretty much par for the course for Paradox. Their main studios tend to do well when they stay in their lane making the same strategy games over and over and their forays outside that are at best variable, results wise. How many major hits have there been from non PDS studios either under Paradox directly or with them publishing (not just distributing, so no PoE or Mount and Blade)? Cities: Skylines and... that's it. Maybe Age of Wonders, if you stretch the definition a bit? Magicka maybe, a decade ago? Not many, in any case. They just don't seem to be very good at managing external projects.2 points

is not as if we got any hard data, but am suspecting those maga hats helped biden more than the trump campaign. am thinking that people who buy maga hats is already diehard trump voters. the campaign contribution from hat sales is a nice bonus for trump, but he ain't getting new voters from hat sales. converse, am betting that for every X number o' hats sold, a democrat who wouldn't have otherwise voted is inspired to do so. in some cases all it takes is one dork in a maga hat acting like an arse to convince people to vote not trump, but seeing those red hats in crowds numbering hundreds and thousands adds a heaven's gate/moonies/children of the corn vibe to trumpy spectacles as the adherents parrot the nonsense o' their beloved leader. as bartimaeus implies, there is a creepy cult quality to trumpism which is driven home by the willingness o' acolytes to adopt a uniform and mindless quote scripture. ritualistic abandoning individuality is swell if you join the usmc, and it makes for great horror film fodder... but in real life, ordinary people is reasonable afraid o' cultists in red hats. admitted equal disconcerting as the maga swag from our pov are the following head coverings: HA! Nah, I know very well how that works, I am even willing to doubledip on some games. I get the game on release and GOTY after some time, if they offer a physical edition, and the game is exceptionally good. It's my personal way, how to reward the developers for their effort. I just loathe the Paradox way of DLC production, which Relic is a big fan of Myself I do not play their games, but I like to watch the let's plays. They do not sell it on GOG, so no sell for me. The issue is that most of the games are designed solely from the financial aspect, and they are missing soul. That's why I lately rather play indie games, even if they are flawed, because you can feel the very souls of the team put into some of them. Unlike the Triple A's2 points

I was gonna say that. It can't be a different turn of the Wheel if they change how the Source works. I also dislike how they changed the characters, like Nynaeve now being a professional assassin, for example. Perhaps the showrunner is a fun of Pathfinder and likes to play as a Cleric/Assassin multiclass. Well, at least Trollocks don't have poison immunity, so this is more viable than in WotR.1 point

Delivery is on December 2023? I'm planning on playing this after I finish BG3 and Solasta (Lost Valley and Palace of Ice). Hopefully still this year, but now I prefer to wait for the dlc. It's already 75% funded. And there are 22 days to go yet.1 point

Even though I will get the DLC no matter what, because I paid for it already with my original KS backing, I will be giving them quite a bit of money for this KS. I truly hope it makes it. But I am pessimistic about their chances. And that will mean they will go out of business, which truly sucks.1 point

They've got a few Kiwi players with Dutch heritage playing for them, like Logan van Beek himself. None of them particularly close to making our side though, and with only a few thousand domestic players it's a big upset. Irony is, if the ICC ('world cricket') had had their way the Dutch wouldn't have even been there as being not good enough. Tangentially related, but it will be interesting to see Cricket at the Olympics. Kind of odd that the US/ LA of all places pushed so hard for its inclusion but I guess nearly 2bn extremely committed subcontintental fans have a lot of pull.1 point

Yeah, if I ever get a real itch to play it, I'll buy it on GOG. Fortunately unlike the MS Store / Game Pass version, the GOG one is supported by SKSE.1 point

Funny, I'm currently playing some Skyrim again... with literally 2000+ mods. -> https://www.nolvus.net/ Crazy how different this game can look. Sadly it still won't fix the terrible quests and writing, and in part even makes it worse. I had to disable some mods in that package, because I just couldn't bear it. Sometimes less is more for sure, especially when it comes to... uh.. adult content. I just started the Dawnguard dlc storyline. Can't remember much about it from back in the days, but I think it wasn't so bad. Also that Dragonborn DLC set in Morrowind was great. Probably the best writing and most interesting quests in the game. /Edit: Honestly, I'm quite impressed with how you can visually change the game. It still looks janky, but Dark Souls-quality is almost possible. Here's my Lady Maria inspired character. Dynamically animated cloak + hair. Lots of clipping, naturally, but still looks so much better than vanilla.1 point
-
I'm stubbornly refusing to re-buy Skyrim and it's really awkward because I lack the Dawnguard DLC which is in itself uninteresting but is required for some key mods. Can't buy it anymore but I also can't justify buying the Anniversary/Special/whatever edition they have now. Speaking of which, Paradox and Harebrained Schemes have just divorced. Probably for the best, but boy Paradox doesn't seem to be in good shape lately.1 point

I guess, if a game is really good and is available on GOG after Steam/EGS, I am likely to repurchase it*. So, I assume that some players might buy the same game for different platforms (such as consoles or mobile devices) and different editions (GOTY, etc.) as well. *Also that one time when Obsidian messed up the critical path in PoEII (which is an important reminder about the control over the digital products/artworks we own and the lack of QoL features on Steam), so I repurchased it on GOG to have the access to the better version (which was the opposite of rewarding the good effort). Should've activated on GOG in the first place, though.1 point

There are so many things that they do different that are outright stupid though, that drives me nuts, which is the biggest problem for me. Sure I jested about how they came to Tar Valon from the wrong direction and stuff, but that was mostly because I was making fun of myself. Sceneries and such things I really liked, I honestly loved the skyscraper mountains and details like that. And then they made Perrin the most unlikeable character in the cast with that wife of his. It's not so much that they've changed some things as that the changes they did make made absolutely no sense to me and felt pointless. The episode 8(Iirc, trolloc army stuff), the fu? You can't burn out in a circle... Also, Egwene has no talent in healing. Why change that, isn't it enough with all the amazing other things she does? And while I can take changes/merging characters and such things, I simply can't stand them changing laws of the universe. It's not so much several turns of the wheel different then, but you break the world that was built. As a gamemaster it grinds my gears when a storyteller does things like that. Hacks.1 point

That makes you a very rare exception. Majority of players does not buy a game twice. Unless it's Skyrim, I guess. : >1 point

I would say it is much better in terms of look and setup. The stories getting a little more mashed up to change mediums from the book to something that can be filmed for tv without a 14year contract. It's done some things I like, some things I don't like. If you approach it from a "it's not the books directly, it's another version of the story several turns of the wheel different" it works quite nicely.1 point

Single Class Druid has the advantage of getting all spells significantly earlier. Most players seem to forget that this has a noticable impact on most encounters. And then of course you get the spells of Power Level 8 and 9 - of which Great Maestrom is the most devastating one. On top of that you get potential +3 Power Level (if you pick the Prestige passive a PL 9) which scales all your abilites up. You can do very weird but fun things with an SC Druid because of Avenging Storm. For example the Great Sword "Effort" has an enchantment named "Hemorrhaging" which applies an additional hit roll of either sicken or hobbling (iirc) to ALL crits you do (not just crits with the Great Sword itself), including spells such as Great Maelstrom or Avenging Storm (and all their procs). Those sicken/hobbling rolls are considered weapon attacks (sine they originate from the Great Sword) - and those hit rolls will proc Avenging Storm lightnings! Those lightings are considered spells - and when they crit they will again proc a sicken/hobble roll... and so on and so forth. Such a Druid is the ultimate minion wiper and it looks as if Darth Sidious is starting a blitz party again. Or you simply cast Maelstrom on everything in sight which is also sufficient most of times, hehe. At the same time almost all Druids are great healers (except Fury) and have good CC capabilities of course. Multiclass Druids have other advantages - mostly they are more interesting to play imo. Some of my favorite combos are: - Livegiver(Bear)/Goldpact: A great healer and supporter but also a good melee character because you can stack a ton of armor without any recovery which makes you very hard to take down while being a fast attacker while shifted with great damage output (Eternal Flames + Wildstrike lashed do hurt, especially with those Full Attacks and very little recovery). - Ancient(Cat)/Wizard: Sporelings shield you from enemies in the early game which is great. The Cat form provides aweseome casting speed and you will have loads of great spells to cast so you don't even need to use Bloodmage if you don't like it (but Blood Sacrifice + Druid heals is a good synergy actually). With Wall of Draining later you can keep up the spiritshift for a very long time - as well as the self buffs. This can also become a pretty tanky character. - Ancient/Helwalker: the raw DoT spells suc as Plague of Insects and Insect Swarm etc. profit a lot from bonus MIG and also bonus INT - both will add significant damage to those spells through damage per tick as well as adding more ticks. Also the Monk side ives you access to a good ACC buff (Endurng Dacne of Death) which is something the Druid sometimes struggles with (I mean accuracy). So this is a great combination for casting fewer spells but with a lot more impact. Also healing spells that work over time profit a lot from the added MIG and INT. - Shifter/Helwalker: the Boar form of the Shifter has a little quirk - the raw "wounding" DoT which the Boar Tusks deliver don't last as long (or short) as with the other subclasses' boar forms but instead the wounding DoT has the base duration of your Spiritshift(!). If you combine that with Helwalker's MIG and INT bonuses you will apply a wounding DoT effect to enemies you hit in melee that will melt almost enything quickly. If you combine that with the spell Taste of the Hunt it even bevomes pretty dangerous for most bosses. And then you have 3 otehr forms you can shift to if that one expires to finish it up... Spiritshift/Monk has a lot of good synergies anyway so it's a fun combo in the first place. --- There's a lot more Druid combos that are fun and powerful like Druid/Chanter as @mjo2138mentioned - but those above are the ones that I thought of immediately and had a fun experience with.1 point

My main save in No Man's Sky, I think is close to the end of the story questline. Which became maybe 5% more interesting as the end nears, but it's still very "arrgh." But some oddball graphic glitches are starting to occur once in a while, like falling through map/wall cracks, UI white washing away. The game has only CTD once, no other performance issues so far, no clue why it's happening. Maybe I need to clear a game cache, too much info after so many hours. Anyway I started a new chr again (3rd one). I skipped the tutorial this time, and at least the settings I used = that Anomaly station was freely available regardless. Thus, I am free of the tutorial shackle re: restarts. This save is going to ignore all the story, base, settlement etc. quests like the plague and only focus on galaxy and planet exploration. I find what I find when I find it, upgrade whatever when I feel like it, avoid all npc's. I enjoy NMS much much more that way. I still see, on planets, stuff I've never seen before. Not to mention learning game stuff I didn't know before, still. That's the best thing.1 point

Well I'm done with BG3. Just got back home after a week in New Orleans. Quirky to go to an American city where you can casually walk pretty much everywhere. Had the fun of landing back on Saturday, and then being told that around 150 pieces of baggage had been left at Heathrow. So I had to do the adventure of hit Walmark for basic necessities and some spare clothes while waiting on my particular baggage to catch up to me. Survived the Vampire Speakeasy.1 point
