Yes, I've seen a lot of bollocks in Western media as well, but comparing it to Russian media bollocks is like comparing sex with your partner, with sex with your hand... Some of you really are forgetting, there here on this forums are people who lived during the Soviet Occupation of some Eastern European countries, and that we have experience with Soviet/Russian soldiers and propaganda from the first hand. So we kind of know, what is bull**** and what is true. And yes, this also means we can see through the Western **** as well. My family for example was since 1950s on the blacklist of Communists and Soviet collaborators. If someone says, that Russia is forcefully evicting Ukrainians from their homes, I know it is highly plausible, because my own family was forcefully evicted from Eastern Slovakia to Czech Republic by them, because my grandad refused to convert his religion from Greek Catholic to Russian Orthodox. He ended up in jail, and died very soon after his release, with autopsy report showing the signs of manipulation... Members of my family, because of that were not allowed to study on Universities for decades, and some of them were forced to work in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technical_auxiliary_battalion , therefore the reports of Russians trying to forcefully conscript Ukrainian men into Russian army are also very highly plausible... And I could continue with more and more real life examples from my own family, to further prove my point... Yes, I understand, why you all might doubt some reports against Russian behaviour, because you're lucky to never experienced anything similar before, but some of us unfortunately had the bad luck of having that experience, and from the talks with some of our Russian colleagues at work, when they get some courage to speak out, after few shots of vodka, the things in Russia had not changed much, since Stalin's death...9 points

Hi, thank you for the info. I will definitely check up on those new mechanics. In terms of the kind of build that appeals to me, I was thinking about a sneaky rogue that lets the frontline engage first and then reveal himself with a high precision and high damage shot (from a rifle probably) on a priority target to try and take someone out of the fight or at the very least severely disable them. After that, if it is viable to just make use of the rifle for the rest of the combat cool, if not (I think rifles are way too slow to rely on them for consistent damage throughout a fight, feel free to correct me here) I would swap to either dual wielding pistols or single pistol for the more "regular" dps. I have no intention of engaging in melee as I'm pretty sure my squishy character would just die. I've been trying to read on some ideas here in the forum and I've seen mentioned a couple of times the streetfighter (iirc) with blunderbuss as the modal procs their buffs but that feels very unappealing to me. Other info that may be of relevance: I will want to play with story companions. My initial thoughts from what I can remember from the last time I played would look something like: Eder (frontliner tank) - maybe I'm just biased because that's how I liked him in PoE1. Open to suggestions to improve this role. ??? (frontliner off-tank/dps) Xoti (pure cleric) - I like the idea of single class spell casters as I feel they would reach their best potential sooner than multi-classes. My background here is mostly Baldur's Gate logic, again, feel free to correct me if this way of thinking is incorrect Aloth (pure wizard) - same logic as Xoti *Me* ranged dps rogue3 points

We here in eastern EU are not stupid. Its clear that US and West covering their basis and going to earn something in this war. But for me it doesn't matter. Even if they want just gas or buy some businesses or whatever. Its always better than anything Russians bring. In late 19th century there was large pan-slavic movement in eastern Europe. One of the great pro pan-slavic author in CZ once went to Russia and when he got back he turned 180. This is his famous citation: "Russians like to call everything Russian Slavic, so that they can claim that everything Slavic is Russian."3 points

We do not speak same language, but most Czech and Slovaks can understand each other, if they try The language is similar, but if you try, it can be said about most of the Slavic languages. Our strongest ties are based on the times, when we were a single country, but before WW1, we had completely different history. Czechs were part of Austria and Slovaks were part of Hungary during Austria-Hungary monarchy. I think, the closest to each other were Czech and Slovak intellectuals during these times, and thus they managed to convince Entente, that Czechoslovakia is a good thing. I have absolutely no clue, how a common people were thinking about this union of two somehow different nations. Shoot, and I thought, our secret is safe3 points

Here's a salient and worrying point: some of the anti-western attitude in the west comes from the fact that people have had it too easy and don't know of anything else. It is an interesting fact of life that if everything is too comfortable, people can turn into whiners who lose perspective. Not pointing this at anyone on this forum, but the phenomenon is there. Once you've had experience of a society where dissidents are actually and actively hunted and killed, or where people are randomly carried away and never seen again, you get to appreciate the divide between such a society and "the west" a lot more. (And yes, this has recently happened in Argentina, Chile, Spain and other places, too, not just Russia. But Russia has a particularly long history of it, and it still goes on.)3 points

Hello everyone I am returning to PoE2 after a couple of years where I had a kind of poor experience with it. Some background to contextualize the motivation for this topic: I enjoyed PoE1 very much, such that my first (completed) playthrough was in PotD Expert Mode with my MC (ranged rogue) and story companions. After that I went for the Triple Crown achievement which I was able to get on my first try, this time with a priest and mostly custom companions (don't really remember if I used story companions or not tbh). With this I thought "ok, I've got a good grasp of the game, let's go have fun in PoE2" where I began my first adventure by importing my rogue character from my first PoE playthrough and heading in on PotD difficulty. I got absolutely slaughtered... So much so to the point where I was struggling to find a place I could go in the game that would actually allow me to progress on some quests. At the time I even tried checking out playthroughs online and see if other people were having trouble as I was, only to find that the same areas where I was suffering were totally different and contained like 25% of the enemies (I remember for example that initial temple area where you fight boars and wyrms and whatnot) due to a patch that had changed the game in that way. I eventually got tired of the frustration (not so much the difficulty per se but more so the fact that I felt this shouldn't be happening due to my previous experience in PoE1) and gave up on the game. I believe I was keeping all of my party members as single classes as I didn't really understand multi classes at the time (well, and I still don't). Fast forward to present time. I am once again very motivated to play these games again and started to try and get myself properly informed about PoE2 to give it another go. I actually quite enjoyed my time with my rogue in PoE and wanted to explore the character further in PoE2. Would you say that a ranged rogue is viable? Would he be better as a single class or a multi with something else? (I am very noob in regard to multiclassing but have no problem with learning about it and using it even if it would add more complexity) I guess I could state this very same question for a priest as I am very unsure which class to actually take I would also appreciate if anyone would be able to give some suggestions or even just point me to some other material with general approaches to the PotD difficulty and how it might differ from PoE1. Sorry for the long post and thank you for your time!2 points

That's perfect. You're kind of right on the Arquebus slowness though you can build to still retain the Arquebus modal for extra accuracy and be decently fast. But that would require certain builds - see below. Switching to pistol, single-handed, with the modal is great anyway. Other great weapons are Rods (AoE modal spreads your special attack e.g. Gouging Strike) and Hunting Bow (modal is super fast, amazing single target DPS with a unique acquired early) and War Bow (for one particular unique) or Arbalest for one build+unique. Your party comp is very viable and IMO screams Pallegina as Herald or Crusader to fill ???. Single class casters are great, especially Cleric and Wizard. If you build Eder as Fighter/Rogue, I would build Pallegina as a Herald. That's probably the most powerplay-ish synergy you can get from them two. Maximize Engagement on Eder (with persistent distraction), get decent engagement on Pallegina with supporting aura + chants. For your main char, Rogue ranged weapon user: SC Assassin is very viable in any shape or form but you might end up "parking" your team somewhere and do everything with it. If you like roguish cheese, that is. Assassin/Helwalker: versatile glass cannon of destruction Assassin/Bleakwalker: @Boeroer's special farming build, devastating Assassin/Devoted: pick your ranged weapon, stick with it, and penetrate like nobody else... @Kaylon has an amazing (solo) build. Assassin/Arcane Archer or Ghost Heart: Uber Disabler with devastating openers and a unique Arbalest synergy - Ghost Heart if you don't like petsies. Assassin/troubadour: Sure Handed Ila + Arquebus or other Ranged Weapons + everything a Troubadour can do. You can also do a Trickster/martial multi that is a Rogue who can tank and deal damage/disable in melee, or an Assassin/caster for great spellcasting effectiveness... really you don't have to stick to ranged weapons purely for effectiveness. Whatever seems most fun to you, then we can elaborate.2 points

A couple thoughts: Key differences in PoE2 that might throw you off are the Inspiration/Affliction mechanic and the Armor Rating vs. Penetration mechanic which are new. AR/PEN can be especially punishing on PotD in the early game, because of scaling and because of how generally the difficulty in PoE2 is very frontloaded, then reaches a plateau, then accelerates again in end-game. Early game can be frustrating but once you get the hang of it, you can do the Maje Dig Site with your eyes closed (well kind of) . Good healing, AR, PEN and things like Charm/Hold Beasts or Cipher spells can be life savers early on. If you want to say specifically fights where you struggle, happy to help decode the blocker and give some pointers. Ranged Rogue (Single or Multi) is amazing. But SC Rogue early without abusing stealth is very hard. Because early game is more about sustain if you don't abuse encounter reset. And early SC Rogue has zero sustain . If you have more thoughts on the kind of build that is appealing to you, happy to think about some fun/effective options that will bridge nicely with your PoE1 Char. If you had fun with PoE1, I'm sure you'll get to LOVE PoE2 eventually!2 points

My great-grandmother used to tell tales of how it was being caught between the Wehrmacht, the Red Army and Tito's Partisans way back in World War 2. My grandmother and her brother (the latter who is still alive) also told tales of their wonderful childhood. Starvation, death camps, watching former neighbours shooting each other because they were the wrong ethnicity. People losing their livelihood and their life's work over being not German enough, or too German... fun stuff, all in all. Special military operations certainly bring out the best in people.2 points

What you say here does not sound convincing. You originally spoke about "the sort of people who think all Russians are braindead and lack critical reasoning proceeding to believe and repeat without question" the stuff presented by their own government officials. When certain media publish this stuff, it does not imply belief, although I do agree that simple repetition of it does not look very convincing, either. But we are talking about certain media, we are not talking about "everywhere" and "for everything". Interestingly, the war has highlighted the quality of various media outlets and the lack of quality in various other media outlets. Your original point that I objected to, the one that gets repeated in the paragraph above, may carry some weight in the sense that there probably are people like that (there are all kinds of people), but I haven't seen evidence of this phenomenon being noticeable.2 points

A Shopper’s Guide to Neketaka: This was originally written in response to a question on reddit about where you should spend your first gold on Neketaka and then expanded on over time. https://www.reddit.com/r/projecteternity/comments/u53ede/where_to_spend_my_first_20k/ Whitewitch Mask: Sold by Spindle Man in Delver's Row for 2.3k. Head item, gives +1 illusions power level (nichely useful) and casts Ryngrim's Repulsive Visage when bloodied (very very useful) Repulsive Visage causes nearby enemies to run away in terror, causing attacks of opportunity as well as letting your guy in melee disengage or reposition. Really good on your offtank or a squishy melee dps. Super good value for money. Extremely fun with Barbarian cleave / Unbroken prones / WotEP. Rekvu's Fractured Casque: Sold by Imuani in Delver's Row for 6.2k. Head item, makes you immune to interrupts when you have an injury. Doesn't really do much by itself but has some amazing metagame stuff that'll become apparent with the next item. Grimoire of Vaporous Wizardry: Sold by Fassina in Arkemyr's shop for 8.5k. Has a pretty mediocre spell list with no unique spells. Here's the kicker; it allows your wizard to cast one (1) extra spell from every spell level every combat. Such power does come with a small (well, not that small) downside of all sources of damage interrupting the wielder. If only there was a way to become immune to interrupts... (See Rekvu’s Fractured Casque) Sasha's Singing Scimitar: Sold by Fassina in Arkemyr's Shop for 15k. Scimitar, gives the wielder +2% action speed for each held chanter phrase and using an empower point on an invocation instantly refunds 3 phrases. This is the best weapon in the game for your melee chanters. Even if it's too pricy to get right at the start you should always get it eventually if you plan on having a chanter in the party. Has amazing enchantments too, granting you either a free (no empower point spent, still only one per fight) empowered invocation or instantly fills your phrases back to the maximum. The other enchantment either gives the wielder +2% shock damage per phrase or makes the inherent 2% AS bonus an AoE. The bonuses to empower make this very good for swapping into, empowering an invocation and swapping back to a ranged weapon too. Ring of Focused Flame: Sold by Fassina in Arkemyr's shop for 1.8k. Gives +10 accuracy for all fire-keyworded attacks. +10 accuracy is amazing: it makes you miss and graze less and lets you land more crits. There are a surprising number of abilities this helps too, probably the most notable ones being the Wizard's Fireball and Paladin's Sacred Flames. Gwyn’s Bridal Garter: A belt, sold by Fassina in the Dark Cupboard for 2.5k. Grants +1 CON as well as resistance to DEX afflictions. DEX afflictions are notable for being both common as well as extremely dangerous, so the resistance is more useful than it might look like at first glance. Burglar's Gloves: Sold by Iolfr in Iolfr's Raiments, Periki's Overlook for 4.7k. Grant +1 dex, +2 mechanics ,and +2 athletics. A "free" way of boosting mechanics for difficult chests or doors. There is some really good loot that you can access early by stacking mechanics and this helps you do that. Even if/when you find better gloves for combat these will still be useful all the way to the end of the game. (hint: Delver's Row) Animancy Cat: Sold by Tiabo in the Sacred Stair for 10k. Pet that gives all summons in your party +2 might and +1 pen. Low penetration is the biggest reason why summons struggle to deal damage, and this lil’ guy as a great step towards fixing that problem. Amazing if you plan on relying on summoning-related strategies. The Magnificent Escape Cape: Sold by Temple Vendor in the Sacred Stair for 2.5k. Gives +10 all defenses against disengagement attacks (niche) as well as the ability to use a teleport (similar to the rogue PL 1 ability) once per fight when dropping below 50% health. The teleport gives 3 seconds of +50 deflection and immunity to engagement afterwards. A great "oh ****" item on any squishies. Extra funny on anybody who likes to stack intelligence, as the +50 deflection bonus can be extended. Scordeo's Trophy: Sold by Uto in the Brass Citadel Smithy for 14k. A pistol that grants a stacking -5% recovery bonus on melee weapons whenever it hits. Does full damage on crits instead of most firearms -15%. Honestly, not that great before upgrades. Has an enchant that gives a stacking -5% recovery to all actions instead of just melee weapons, and as such is one of the better guns to give any of your casters. (or Maia. Her ability to interrupt enemies with this and the pistol modal turned on is astonishing) Probably can leave this one for later. Heaven's Cacophony: Sold by Wanika in Queen's Berth for 10k. Head item, gives +2 INT and +1 religion. Also grants two skills: a cone AoE stun and Avenging Storm, both usable once per rest. Avenging Storm is a druid PL 8 spell. A single class druid gets access to it at level 15. A multiclass druid will never reach high enough PL to cast this spell. You can get it the instant you land it at Neketaka. Needless to say, it's super overpowered well into the endgame, especially if you really plan around exploiting it (which would probably warrant a whole thread of its own) I hope this servers as a useful resource for any new players, as well as an useful starting point for discussion on what items could/should be added here.1 point

Neal Adams' influence cannot be underestimated. Many of the greatest comics artists that started out in the 70s and 80s, could be said to have begun working as Neal Adams imitators. George Pérez, Gene Day, John Byrne, Bill Sienkiewicz or Alan Davis all owe an enormous debt to Adams. Even today, the artists that pencil in a more "realistic" style are riding Adams' coat tails. It's also astounding the immense gulf in quality between his 60s work and that of his peers. It's an interesting exercise to compare X-Men #55 by Werner Roth, a competent artist in the 60s, with X-men #56 by Neal Adams, both from 1969.1 point

It should be noted that if you are playing a roguish character, many of these items can be achieved via the five fingered discount, that is, stolen. The items that can be stolen on this list include the Whitewitch Mask, the Grimoire of Vaporous Wizardry, the Ring of Focused Flame and Scordeo's Trophy. I would add to this list Tuotilo's Palm and the Devil of Caroc Breastplate (presuming your choices in POE 1 allow this) from Marahi's Metalwork and the Spine of Thicket Green from the Dark Cupboard. These items can also be stolen.1 point

Despite it being 2 vs 7, a lot of people expected Brooklyn to beat Boston (those people are fools, but that's neither here nor there). The Nets were one of the odds on favorites to win the championship, again despite being a 7 seed. Milwaukee tanked at the end of the season just to get out of the 2 seed to avoid playing the Nets in round 1. My point is that it can be argued that the Celtics beating the Nets was an upset, though that argument hinges purely on the reputation of the Nets' players and if you watched the Celtics play down the stretch run then you know how ridiculous an argument it is.1 point

Ah yes, that must be fun to watch! Very synergistic. I forgot one combo that you might find story/lore-friendly which is Ranged Cipher/Assassin. I had written up a solo build here:1 point

I'd recommend an arquebus wielding assassin/bellower. An invocation like Her Revenge or Her Tears, cast from stealth, is absolutely devastating with the assassin bonus and the extra PLs from the bellower. And there's a great weapon, accessible around lvl 8, that is perfect for this build, Blightheart, which gives you phrases every time you kill, which you'll do very often. This build is better in a party IMO than most assassin builds, since you can't open a battle casting an invocation as you can with an assassin/wizard for example. But with a party, you can maneuver invisibly while the enemies are preoccupied with your party, and then pick them off with your gun or your invocations. (But it's viable solo if you pick summons invocations). Just don't pick chants that directly affect enemies, as this will break stealth. You could have Pallegina as a Herald pick those chants. The best for you would be Sure Handed Ila, Aefyllath Ues Mith Fyr and/or Old Siec. This is a very fun MC combo in my experience, and not too micro intensive, unlike assassin/wizards.1 point

I really enjoy this build. I just got to level 20, and I can melt everything! I never really appreciated meteor shower before, but with all the self buffs, as well as the ring of focused flame, it is a force to be reckoned with! I just had some questions: 1. In a thread somewhere, you mentioned Duskfall is a good late game weapon, too. What enchantments would you use? Does the +10 action speed apply to casting times and recovery times, or just melee? How about Magrans Chain - Which enchantments would you favor? 2. For Power Level 2. Would you consider leaving out Arcane Veil, and using Merciless Gaze? I know late game favors survivability, esp., the DLC, but I wonder if the axiom "a great defense is a good offense" might favor it. I always run out of PL 2 spells quickly, as there are so many good ones here. 3. Would you add Pull of Eora or Arcane Dampener, or is it not really needed? 4. Are there any other late game pets or items you like which you did not mention? Thank you!1 point

A week or two old interview with ukrainian soldier at Dnipro, unfortunately I am not able to find the link anymore, but it is somewhere at the Twitter of the author. Because of that, it is a google translation from transcript of the interview in Czech language. "British military author David Patrikarakos had a short interview with Dima, a Ukrainian soldier at Dnipro. It's like World War II, just with modern technology. 2014 was compared to this playground. Our biggest ally is corruption in the Russian army and their military nature. A Russian soldier reports to his superior, "It's not good, but we're sticking." He, in turn, reports to his superior "we are holding on." he will say to his superior "it's going well!" And that's exactly how Putin doesn't know what it really looks like. No one believed that war would really break out. Because you need a numerical renumbering of at least 2: 1 for an offensive operation. Today, everyone sees that they do not have a numerical advantage. It's a complete madhouse. Sometimes you play poker with the wrong cards, but Russia plays completely without cards. What shocked me the most is the lack of interest of Russian soldiers in their friends. In Mariupol, Russian soldiers have lunch in ruins just a few meters from the decomposing bodies of their comrades, and they are not bothered at all. After all, the bodies of dead comrades are thrown into a trench and sometimes they don't even bury them. We once found a mass grave of fifteen Russian soldiers that was covered with only a few inches of clay. How can they respect civilians when they have no respect for each other. That's unbelievable. Nobody understands their tactics. There is a small military airport in Chernobayivka, which the Russians have tried to conquer seventeen times, but we have always repulsed them, and they are still coming in the same numbers in the same direction! A friend asked me if they were really that stupid and I said no, they just had incompetent leadership and were unable to think individually. They just obey orders, no matter how crazy they are. Chechens? Ha-Ha! We call them TikTok Soldiers! They're still filming on social networks. They were given top equipment to look good in photos and videos, but they don't play much in the fights. We once captured a wounded Chechen and he took a selfie instead of trying to fight. Absolutely bizarre! Their job is not primarily to engage in combat, but to catch Russian conscripts who do not want to fight. As in the Soviet Union. One thing I have to say. Musk's Starlink is what tilted the scales in favor of us. From the beginning of the invasion, the Russians largely paralyzed our Internet, which they can no longer do. Starlink works even under the sharpest artillery fire and works even in Mariupol. They still use Soviet doctrine, which was obsolete thirty years ago. But the modern battlefield has changed, we have studied a lot of NATO's military operations in Afghanistan and Israel's military tactics. The Russians are still trying to attack on a mass scale, and our job is so simple: to destroy as many targets as possible. But we have limited resources, so we must be creative. It is quite easy to recognize the guerrilla action and the Russian operation under a false flag (false flag operation). The guerrillas are attacking critical infrastructure, the Russians are simply bombing something unimportant to them. would they attack important targets for them? Not in a million years. I know you British have complicated relationships with your Prime Minister Johnson, but here Boris Johnson is something of a national hero. NLAW missiles are clearly the best. They are easy to use, you just aim to shoot and destroy. Without them, we would not destroy so many Russian tanks. And speaking of tanks, we've captured more than 100, so we have more tanks than at the beginning of the invasion. We in the unit have one joke that Russia is our largest arms supplier." https://twitter.com/dpatrikarakos1 point

--- pistol --- For pistols I would include a Ranger. A Ranger has the ability "Gunner" and "Driving Flight" which are both quite nice for a pistol user, especially if he/she uses Scordeo's Trophy or Eccea's Arcane Blaster. I personally like a single handed pistol best because its modal, in combination with one-handed usage, is both fast and accurate and awesome with autoattacks. A good second class would be Cipher, Rogue or Chanter. If you use a Chanter with Sure Handed Ila then dual wielding pistols without using the modal becomes a nice option. Sure-Handed Ila and the pistol modal won't stack their reloading speed bonuses - so going dual wielding + Two Weapon Style + Sure-Handed Ila will be faster than single-handed usage and will have a bit better accuracy (but no added crit conversion). --- arquebus --- For an arquebus I prefer Ranger/Chanter with Sure-Handed-Ila because of the speed, but Ranger/Rogue or Chanter/Rogue are also good. A very potent combination is Troubadour/Streetfighter. Mainly because you can use the upgraded Whisp summons of the Chanter to distract/flank yourself (unlocking the passive of the Streetfighter) which stacks his 50% reloading bonus with Sure Handed Ila's, giving you the highest reloading speed possible while also giving you great per-shot damage via Sneak Attack + Myth Fir chant (burning lash). But it takes a while to get access to both Sure-Handed Ila and the Whisps. Until then it's still a Rogue shooting an arquebus - so it's not bad at all. It's just so that once you unlock Whisps and Sure-Handed-Ila the build totally takes off. Especially with the Red Hand arquebus. Generally speaking Ranger/Rogue is always a solid option no matter the details. --- blunderbuss --- The best "gunslinger" option in my opinion is a single class Monk with Hand Mortar and Fire in the Hole - but that's bunderbusses, not pistols or arquebuses. Anything Streetfighter with blunderbuss(es) is also very good because the modal of blunderbusses unlocks the Streetfighter passive all the time. Very good in combination with Monk, too - in order to spam "Stunning Surge" with very high speed and dmg per hit. Ranger/Monk is also very nice because Stunning Surge hobs with Driving Flights, including all the AoE from the mortars. But a SC Monk gets Resonant Touch and Whispers of the Wind in the end which are just pure devastation with dual mortar blunderbusses. Funnily enough a SC Druid with Avenging Storm is also very good with mortars (especially Hand Mortar) because Blinding Smoke and the jumping AoEs all trigger Avengimg Storm's lightning strikes. But it's a long way to PL 8 in order to get Avenging Storm so I wouldn't recommend it for a first playthrough.1 point

A Black Jacket/Streetfighter can become a really fast hitting melee sturdypants when he uses a thicker armor and the ability Armored Grace, a pet like Abraham and then gets flanked. Even with the otherwise "low-dps" option weapon & shield the attack speed and DPS are great while the staying power is great, too. The early game, which usually is a bit difficult in certain encounters was noticably easier because offense and defense were so well balanced.1 point

UN sanctions aren't unilateral since- at least in theory- the sanctioned party is obligated to obey them as well. Sigh. Haven't we done this exact same thing before? (0) it's not a treaty and no one has treated it as if it were (1) even if it were a treaty the EU is not a signatory and (2) the US (and UK, ie the actual western signatories) abrogated the memorandum as well, to whit parties should "Refrain from using economic pressure on Belarus, Kazakhstan or Ukraine to influence their politics" Just say it's against the UN Charter, using the Budapest Memorandum as if it means anything is reddit tier. And really, I'm going to have to start charging people for reading international agreements and correcting them. Nice easy way to tell if you're being fed propaganda: if you replaced 'unnamed US official' with 'unnamed Russian official' how much weight would be given to it? If you're not even willing to put your name to something it's 90% chance it's bollocks. Especially when they're mutually contradictory at least half the time: (1) US officials insist Russia is running out of precision munitions like cruise missiles, since week 1 (2) Russia is also using cruise missiles to indiscriminately but specifically target non military targets just to cause civilian casualties. You can believe one, or the other, or neither; but not both. Though there's a kind of amusement watching the sort of people who think all Russians are braindead and lack critical reasoning proceeding to believe and repeat without question everything they're told by their governmental officials.1 point

You could try a solo class fighter for your first run, so you can really experience all the different abilities for one class. Then you will have a strong understanding of the class itself. That being said, you can also try out a multiclass; as you are playing with a party , you have a lot of room for experimentation. It depends on your personal style. I think the recommendations above are great ways for a first run, especially Black Jacket fighter. If you want to experiment, as mentioned, swashbuckler (fighter/rogue) is a great tank that also can dish out dmg, killing enemies faster results in being a better 'tank' because the mobs are dead! Pure Fighters are better and holding the line, but not necessarily at dmg. However, adding in a combat focused multiclass will enhance the damage dealing role. Otherwise, you can even become a super tanky character as a paladin/fighter. The other benefit is you can try out multiclasses for your companions, many of which are unique , and they are very strong. Have fun!1 point

Devoted seems diametrically opposite to what OP suggests, given that he wants to Key is understanding that weapons skills (or better: proficiencies) are not needed to use any weapon properly. You can always take whatever weapon type you find and use it without any penalty (just not being able to use the modal if you don't have the fitting proficiency). Several weapon types have modals that aren't worth considering if you plan to switch weapons frequently anyway, so no loss really. Also weapon proficiencies are completely decoupled from the rest of the class abilities: you get proficiency points "for free" at every few level-ups and have to invest them anyway. So I would focus on the proficiencies that give you useful modals. The rest of the weapon types you can use without proficiency/modal (and without drawback). Proficiencies that I find useful are large shield, medium shield, club, flail, morning star, pike, mace, arbalest, crossbow, hunting bow, pistol, blunderbuss (if one of your classes is Streetfighter), arquebus, rod, battle axe. As I said: not mandatory - but useful. So if I had to pick a proficiency I would use some of these. If one likes to focus on melee then of course a lot of them aren't worth considering. A Devoted however is the only (sub)class that puts a penalty on using weapons you are not proficient with - and he only gets two proficiencies at the start of the game and none later, thus locking him out from any other weapons besides fists and the other weapno type he picked at the start. So "use what I find" becomes more difficult with a Devoted, not easier. Because of that I wouldn't suggest Devoted when I look at what OP wrote. A Black Jacket on the other hand is something that fits the description of OP pretty well: not only does a Black Jacket get more weapon proficiencies from the get-go but he also gets an additional weapon set where you can put alternative weapons in AND he can switch to those alternative weapon sets more quickly. If a Black Jacket takes the ability Quick Switch he can even switch to whatever weapon set he has without loosing any time at all: maximum flexibility of all classes when it comes to "use what I find". The additional weapon proficiencies a Black Jacket gets for free can be used to pick more of the useful modals/proficiencies I wrote above. So, imo the trick isn't to pick no weapon proficiency (because you have to pick some anyway and they only unlock the modals which are not strictly improvements but more like pro/con things that give more options) but to be able to pick as many proficiencies as possible for free AND not having drawbacks if you don't pick a certain proficiency (which rules out Devoted). Because that allows you to play as OP wants: picking up whatver good weapon you find and use it effectively. And as an added benefit you're able to switch to a fitting weapon against a certain foe - as soon as you realize what said foe is vulnerable to you can pick the optimal weapon set. Not focusing on a single weapon but using what is best in a given situation. I think the no.1 wish of OP isn't to not be able to pick a proficiency but being able to use whatever weapon comes along. At least that's how I interpret OP's post (?). The second class can be whatever (if multiclass is an option I mean). I personally would maybe pick Streetfighter if I wanted more melee damage - it's also a nice pick to make use of several different weapon setups depending of the situation you are in. For example you can start with a dual wielding setup and once you feel you get overwhelmed and bloodied switch to a shield setup to be more safe. I also think that Black Jacket/Streetfighter is a thematically fitting combination.1 point
