  2. Phantoms are souls that did not properly separate from the body after death. This usually happens as a result of severe trauma, particularly in the case of a violent death. Unlike lost souls, which are incapable of interacting with or being detected by normal mortals, phantoms (like shadows and cean gŵla) maintain a connection to the physical world. They will attack other life forms without discrimination. End-level class build to interract with the world from beyond the veil — Blood mage / berserker — human mig high con lowest dex high per high int high res lowest Once the acces to benefecials effects durations, this build really dont need health (con) and is not affected by ennemies debuffs (res). In that sense he need the lowest resolve he can because he need a tiers3 affliction to exploit this potential. He just have to be careful with other afflictions from friendly fire (like Blind from Chillfog for exemple). This build require a party with someone able to cast Supress affliction (priest or ring of unshackling or equivalent) and enfeebled (in my party I have a SC Woedica priest and a MC FF monk). Before level 19, as a glass canon Warlock, defensives illusions and enchanting spells are a necessity to staying in life. After the possibility of wall of draining, as a transparent glass canon, spells have to be respec to the offensive direction, like that : 0. Frenzy ; Chillfog Blooded ; Arkemyr Dazzling Lights Barbaric Blow ; Merciless Gaze ; Combusting Wounds ; two weapons style Bloodlust ; Deleterious alacrity of Motion ; Bloody slaughter ; Ryngrim's repulsive Visage Spirit Frenzy ; Pull of Eora ; Essential Phantom ; Secret of rime Leap ; Ninagauth's Bitter Mooring ; Arkemyr's Wondrous Torment ; Dimentional shift Brute Force ; Ninagauth's Freezing Pillar ; Minolettas's piercing Burst ; Death Ring Blood Thirst ; Substancial phantom ; Spirit Tornado (Necrotic Lance, Confusion, Malignant Clood, Gaze of the adragan, and Wall of draining are in Grimoire) Items and theirs complementarities Horns of the Auroch (to ignore pull of Eora, lash for the phantom summon) Tears of saint Makawo (the most important item, see below) Cape of the Falling stars (large area phantom' explosion) Hylea's talons (bleeding foe only on melee) Kuaru's price or Ring of overseeing Whispers from the Depths (source of Acute, the loose of will doesn't matter) Sandals of the Water Lily (Ninagauth's bitter Mooring sometimes Immobilize yourself, -10 def for phantom summon) Unstable Coil or upgrades (Spirit siphon stack with actives and passives speed bonus, phantom summon beeing Volatile) Beza's Touthed Blade (Rending cuts work with all critical hit, so it is like a +2 pen for 10sec, Veil piercing because you are Beyond the Veil), Modwyr (to cast Spirit Frenzy again and again without the confuse part) Effort (Valiant Demise for phantom) (set 2, before casting phantom) Effigy's Husk (Armor of Flesh to resist to the Volatile phantom stunning reverence, add to that AoE 45-55 raw damages, -75% healing to ennemies around you) Grimoire of the vaporous Wizardry (3 spell casts, taking 0 damage dont interrupt, but phantom is Volatile again, this time in a bad way) ———————————————— In first place, when combat start, Blood sacrifice you upon you are below bloodied, and cast Martyr's Memories from Tears of Saint Makawo. Then Supress affliction from your priest supress the petrify effect, and you become Untargetable just for ennemies, with a -100% damage taken. in this order, cast Deleterious alacrity of Motion, Spirit Frenzy, and Wall of draining on ennemies. Once Spirit Frenzy is active, with a FF monk, double hit your Warlock with Forbidden fist (1 to errase the Robust effect, 2 to enfeebled (no heal)). That must happen very quickly because with robust and the Blood mage constant healing, warlock is going to loose quickly every effect from bloodied (+25% damage from Blooded, +15% damage and +7 acc from Human, -75% healing to ennemies around you from Effigys Husk) because Martyr's Memories doesnt prevent you from healing. With your low resolve, meaning between 40 and 60sec of Enfeebled. That was the first step to the fight. Seems maybe fastidious but Martyr's memories is 1/rest ability, and the benefices are really good. Because you are sensitive to friendly fire, priest can buff you with aware (or yourself with Eldritch aim) and other good spells. A good way to deal with ennemies is to cast Pull of Eora to keep them far away of your team, and cast essential phantom (while you get in your hand Effort) in the other side of the AoE (he is immune to pull effect, Horns of Auroch). Ninagauth's bitter Mooring him, then cast 3 Ninagauth's Freezing Pillars -3,4s casting- (with the phantom inside the AoE). An ennemie with dumbed fortitude and less than 13 freeze armor rating hited by each pulse take on 22 sec env. 840 damages +env. 130 damages from phantom explosion. You take 0 damage. With 3 casts of minoletta's precisely piercing Burst, 129-177 pierce damages with 20 pen -2.6s casting- 3.4m around you, you are pretty offensive. I'm considering Whispers from the Dephts granted you Acute since you killed someones. The 15% Action speed bonus from Delterious Alacrity of motion doesnt stack with the 20% one from Frenzy, but once you killed your phantom, you gain another 15% Action Speed , and a 20% another one from Bloodlust passive. Martyr's Memories give you Untargetable so at the difference to Barring Death, you dont worry about ennemies spells like Arcane Dampener, that dont hit you. In the melee, it is like you are invisible, but if you was, allies couldnt target you with Supress affliction like for withdraw. Ennemies just ignore you like you was beyond the Veil. Yours wizardly phantoms are considered as Team and not Party, so if you can target them with offensives spells, you cant affect them with friendly spells like Dimensional shift or Recall Agony from cipher. Contrarly to the Chanter' ghost who does, as considered as Party. Yours phantoms dont trigger carnarge on Effort' Valiant Demise full attack on unconscious. They only copy your items. In other hand Spirit from Shroud of phantasm are truly copy of you and maybe trigger carnage with Valiant demise. Nothing in the combat log about that. I just know that with a monk with swift flurry active and Effort, on unconscious the AoE m full attack can trigger another attack (just for each crit roll, no recast the Valiant Demise), and a Barbarian with frenzy active trigger as the same way Carnage with each attack from Valiant demise. Really nice combined with Survivor's Tusks. Blood sacrifice will restore your spells in 0.6s per sacrifice, so with the Maj Key that mean 5 spells/3sec, you take again 0 damage. If it is not a problem to keep the Martyrs memorie effect with WoD or SoT, for the bloodied effects you have to be careful : at level 20 , your health is env. 200, you cant see it anymore because frenzy, you have to go see your enfeebled source rapidely ( Leap). Note : I'm using the Community Patch, the Balance Polished Mod, the /rest to /combat Abilities Mod, and another Mod that grant more health to ennemies (+50%) to profit to longest duration combats without break the balance of the game.

  7. it's worth highlighting that at some point in one of the patches, enemies got more easily pulled by noise. i think it came around with the arrival of the "berath's challenge" (combat doesn't end until all enemies in an encounter are dead). i don't know if it was an unintentional side effect or a deliberate choice to make it harder to pull enemies away from each other. so it is definitely easier to accidentally pull e.g. the deathguard than it was before. as for noise, i think noise is one of those things that are very subtle but can yield extremely emergent gameplay; i think it's like 95% of the way to being a really great game mechanic. this is me rehearsing a particularly hard stealth section in my ultimate run (because fighting the enemies would've wasted too much time and been very dangerous), using things that make noise in different ways to lure enemies around:

  10. The area is small but more open - and there are more ranged enemies (casters etc.) that won't run towards you (but still attack you). You can pull the melee enemies away from the sigils (there are some, too) but it won't feel cheesy. If you start combat from the entrance of the cave it's just the way it goes. The sigils are in the back and mainly there to make it harder to sneak up on the enemies. It's normal that all enemies in that cave join combat once you trigger it. It's just like one big cave - so no surprise they all come. The ranged ones usually stay in place if they can reach you while the melee ones totally swarm you with leaps and disrupt your whole tactics by landing in the midst of your party etc. It will most likely be a mess. Beware - that Lich is a tough nut.

  11. I think with this one it's simpler. To get the full challenge/experience, you can simply advance openly in the main cavern to get the full "intended" opposition vs. trying to stealth around and take out the patrolling enemies covertly.

  12. I think you confused the Ancient Deathguard in the Forgotten Catacombs (the one who drops the Reckless Brigandine) with the Lich + Corpse Eaters in some other (flooded) cavern. For example there are no guls that emerge from sand in the flooded caverns. It does not (entirely) because you can't use Dazzling Lights to lure away non-hostile NPCs - for example to sneak to a chest. Several encounters (e.g. Concelhaut) start as non-hostile and a conversation leads to a fight. If you want to fight anyway and use some luring to get an advantage Dazzling Lights won't work. Explosives other than Sparkcrackers also won't. Only Sparkcrackers (and the ability of Rokowa's Fingers with the identical name) will have the desired effect. Besides that every noisy AoE spell that can be cast out of combat and targeted on the ground can work like Dazzling Lights. Dazzling Lights has the VFX of Sparkcrackers (not the sound fx iirc) and also not too big AoE - so that's why I prefer it as luring spell, too. Iirc most dungeouns aren't as small and "condensed" as the Forgotten Catacombs so there's less problems with enemies all swarming to one place. But it happens occasionally. Especially if there are many enemies (and especially some guarding/patrolling ones) they will alert other nearby enemies. Some even have means of alerting the whole dungeoun that you are there (with blowing horns or just yelling). But the whole dungeon won't rush you - but just turn hostile (if not already).

  13. You can use noise very effectively to lure enemies to spots. For example you can use any noisy spell that is usable outside combat (usually all offensive AoE spells that can target the ground) to lure enemies to the spot you cast it to. Explosives also work for this (obviously). It can help with sneaking past enemies or just to get enemies to a spot where it's easier to fight them. You can also use it to split and pull single enemies. When used properly it can make encounters a lot easier. It's especially fun for characters or parties that use a sneaky approach. Sparkcrackers are special: usually only enemies (red circles) can get lured. Sparkcrackers also work on neutral NPCs. In case of the Forgotten Catacombs: I seldomly have a problem with the Deathguard leaving the room prematurely. I lure the patrolling enemies to the entrance which prevents the whole dungeon from following. And then I can usually start the final fight right in front of the door (out of reach of the sigil). If you are far enough away and use a silent weapon (e.g. a bow) you can actually destroy the sigil without aggroing the enemies in the room (depends on how near they are to your char).

  16. Hylea's Talons do work with Vaillant Demise (and also Vengeful Defeat of SC Barbs - both abilities stack by the way). If you use stuff like Effort + Cape of the Falling Star and so on, sometimes not all the AoEs trigger on death (don't know the exact "rule" here, just noticed). Too bad Ring of Reset doesn't work with Phantoms (they just disappear and have no real knockout animation so they can't be revived). Else it would be a very cool item for phantoms...

  19. The most obvious option is of course also the most boring. Somebody barely scraping by in society (seemingly going from verdict to verdict throughout life) having a spat with his partner and never learnt how to deal with anger management issues decided to go on a road rage, not giving a damn about who or how many he kills in the process. Mental health is not something you talk about and it's very unlikely to be offered to those who needs it most (it's probably almost as bad as being a communist and it costs money... lots of money, because US health care is amongst the worlds most inefficient when it comes to value for money).

  21. https://winteriscoming.net/2021/11/22/the-wheel-of-time-boss-explains-big-change-perrin/ But yes, it's a mix of they've aged the characters up so that the audience skew it as a "young adult show" and not watch it. Which means some shifts to adapt to characters being 18-20 rather than 16 or so. They've compressed a couple of side characters into one, they've made Mat more grim with a darker family life, and a few other areas.

  22. Yeah, between its innate abilities and the spells in the Brawler's Grimoire, it can come up with painful combos (no wonder they're the same go-to combos for many Battlemage builds out there!) while being quite durable, plus its minions can be a pain. Well after all, it's called an "Ancient Lich Battlemage" not a "Juvenile Lesser Wizard Slayer Xaurip" so I suppose it should offer a reasonable challenge! edit: one of few fights where Arcane Dampener can actually be useful if you can land vs. its high Will.

  27. Nice to know. To be clear, I am fine with enemy swarming and noise pulling, as long as they don't feel like abusing game mechanics.(I consider forgotten catacomb to be such case as deathguard leaving his arena makes sigil placement, dragul ambush and traps all meaningless). But yeah, you guys talked me out of removing noise. Seem like it has its uses.

  28. Ah my bad! Yes I was referring to the Flooded Cave encounter in the Ofecchia Channel. But then that's relevant because it is another encounter with a particular layout that can behave very differently depending on how you start it. Argh you're right - for some reason I keep convincing myself of the opposite and rediscovering in-game that indeed Sparcrackers behave differently. I don't know where this unconscious bias is coming from .

  31. This (recent) topic mention that "Engolio de Espers on kill effect also triggers on any sort of kill " ; Blade Feast is associed to the weapon and generate focus for ciphers. As a SC Soul Blade, you have access to Shared Nighmare, and you gain 10 Max Focus per kill by melee weapon (25 with the Balance polishing Mod). The Weyc Wand can proc from crit (50%) a seal that deals Raw Damage to enemies, a big seal with shared nighmare wich tick rapidely (1sec) and have a correct duration (and can stack with another one). And generate focus. The Grave Calling and the Hel Beckoning proc respectively Chill Fog on killing Vessel (with a chanter in the party) and Noxious Cloud on killing Spirit (with Shroud of phantasm for exemple, the phantoms are very weak, or a chanter in the party), enormous Chill fog or Noxious cloud (so no question to deal with the confuse trick, it is dangerous) that generate focus again. Both stay on the battlefield (or on the Map in fact) and then, when one of them do nothing else that a regular damage of the ability triggered but on big area and, by the way, generate focus, you can switch the weapon to Engolio de Espers, proccing Ghosts Blades when someone die . One time per rest (or per combat with a mod) you can cast Avenging Storm with the Heaven cacophony, and there is a truly cacophony of lighnings, It is like a storm that grow up as mesure ennemies die, and your focus climb. That however don't give you more max focus than you already have, triggering weapon abilities are tagged as weapon but not melee. This is particularly impressive with the Weyc Wand before switching to EdE, when there is many seals, the DPS is the hugeless I see. To build arround that, Aloth armor and the overseeing ring of course, to maximise the area of the effects. With a rogue instead of the cipher, you gain lot of dammages but at the coast of the AoE.

  33. Well, that's something we'll probably never know, because this forum software is as mysterious as Instrumentality. I wonder if this will turn into an essay now. Turns out it almost did, spoiler tagged for brevity. SOME Nanoha spoilers, so anyone else who might want to try it beware. Well was that a ramble, huh? TL;DR: If you ever feel like it and have the time (and nothing better to do), try StrikerS and give it more than the opening episode that's a little more actiony than the next 10 or so episodes, unless you immediately despise the setup. You're probably not going to finish watching it, but I'd still be curious what you'll make of it - if only to improve my ability to prognosticate. The anime's biggest problem is answering the question: Why should I watch this instead of something else? That's a question I can't answer beyond Nanoha is different than other magical girl heroines and... that's pretty much it. It never fully shakes the feeling that you're watching something that's nice to watch, occasionaly fun, sometimes great, but ultimately nothing truly outstanding. It feels a bit like listening to an album of a genre of music you liked when you were younger but feel you've grown out of, or a new album of a group you liked that feels like they're becoming a bit stale. You might still enjoy it, you can see (well, hear) all the elements that made you enjoy this in the past, it's really well crafted perhaps, but it's not... that special any more. Does that make sense? No, probably not. It also makes it sound worse than it is. StrikerS moves the show out of being completely derivative, but at the same time introduces some staler elements to the plot, and the Doctor sometimes feels like a less fun Professor Tomoe. Great, now I've confused myself. On a "out of 10" rating it feels like this is a 7/10 if a 7/10 represents the upper bounds of what something can achieve without being truly special or meaningful. Because if nothing else, a lot of care and planning went into setting up StrikerS, and that has to count for something. It's a well crafted little season, to borrow something Jay would say. One might not like the genre, and therefore it becomes something most likely - perhaps not uninteresting or loathesome, but not worth investing time in. It kind of feels unfair to rate this 7/10 even though I was surprised how well crafted and of high quality StrikerS felt, but in the light of truly great entertainment that transcends genre interest, what else could I put it at? In some ways, 7/10 isn't high enough for my personal enjoyment of StrikerS, on the other hand, at the same time it feels like it's too much because I entirely enjoyed this more than I probably should have. How do you rate guilty pleasures?

  35. Hi everyone, Not trying to bring this thread back to life, but I finally got a chance to play a fair bit around the modded Screaming Souls ability that @Elric Galad so graciously put together. i.e. Screaming Souls working "as intended" or at least, as described. Not surprisingly I did a solo Beckoner/Psion focused around Ancient Brittle Bones and the über Screaming Souls, with additional synergy with e.g. Many Lives, The Empty Soul and other Cipher passives, Helm of the White Void, the occasional Grave Calling bonanza... My findings are as follows: 1) It is extremely satisfying when you manage to pull off the perfect combo of basically 6 + 12 (+1) skeletons absolutely exploding the battlefield through a crazy chain reaction. I'm talking about 100+ attack rolls in one cast, with very large AoE size and humongous total Raw damage. You could think it is totally broken but... 2) You will often commit suicide in the process, so there's a bit of balance. It's hard to not completely wreck yourself or bystanders because the AoE can be somewhat unpredictable. Sure, you can mitigate the risk with sky-high Will (which you'll have), wearing Voidward, having a pet with +health on kill, maybe using the Great Escape Cape/Leaping Boots for last second mobility... But you're competing against your sky-high Accuracy even with only a few hits you might not survive the Choir of the Undead. But hey, when you pull it off... hundreds and hundreds of raw damage*. And it gets even better when enemies are Vessels themselves! In conclusion: if you want to bring a bit of versatility to your Troubadour/Psion or whatever, this mod is fun. Screaming Souls working "as intended" is OP, but it is so dangerous that I find it relatively balanced in a way. Worth a try IMHO! *I'm being intentionally vague on the actual damage potential because the combat log goes totally bonkers . but it's a lot! PS: don't try it in a party with a SC Cipher having Shared Nightmare. Guaranteed suicide.
