  2. There is a lot of effervescence these days around finding new stuff in the Deadfire! As forum contributors investigate ideas, we are eager to report nice synergies/combos that we didn't know of, or things that aren't working as they should. But we're less keen on reporting on basic failures, i.e. experiments that just didn't work out either way. I thought maybe it would be nice to know of those experiments that didn't yield any meaningful results, if only to spare the trouble for others . So here's my trial at this. Those probably aren't 'new news' to many, but I'll report on 2 recent experiments that just didn't work out. I'll try to add to this thread as I (don't) discover stuff . Don't hesitate if you'd like to post on your own "meh, scrap that" experiments. -I tried if Rot Skulls' potential would benefit from Arcane Archer bonus elemental accuracy: doesn't work. -I tried if Shadow Step's Paralyze effect would spread to multiple targets with an AoE weapon like WotEP: doesn't work.

  4. Most of the "complaints" I see are about the ads for the lattes rather than who drinks it. Casual observation (i.e. lurking behind a plant in the store) at the Starbucks near my office did indicate that it is mostly women that order it but not by a huge margin maybe 2 to 1.

  6. I only played the first game, on normal settings, and it's pretty much cruise control. Some fights you will have to reload if you get unlucky, but most fight are winnable without any strategy. For reference, I missed recruiting 2 of the most powerful companions and still beat the hardest boss with the minimal required level to face him. I also don't know anything about the pathfinder ruleset.

  7. I think running for president is probably a waste of time and money for the LP. A much smarter strategy would be to concentrate on winning a power base in a particular region. Probably the western states like Idaho, Montana, Wyoming where the LP is an actual player at the state level. Take whatever resources the party has and focus on candidates there for state wide and Congressional offices. Get a handful of congressional candidates into office and you can form a coccus. Now you’re in a position to actually affect change. Such a coccus could be a swing vote between an evenly divided Congress. That brings political clout name recognition for the party etc. I understand why it is necessary to run a presidential candidate. The LP is not a movement it’s a political party. And a party needs a face. I still think it’s a waste of time. And its certainly a waste of resources. philosophically libertarian thought is a hard sell to most people. People want a government that does things. Gives them things. Punishes people they don’t like. A society where the NAP is successfully realized probably can’t exist. Humans cannot just “live and let live”. A Libertarian society is likely as big a pipe dream as a communist economy where there are no shortages and no repression. The theory sounds good on paper but fails in actual application to humans. Besides, I don’t think the libertarian party deserves to have success. This is a highly dysfunctional organization incapable of getting out of its own way. I voted for Jorgensen last year because I found both Trump and Biden to be equally unacceptable for different reasons. But if I had any notion that my one vote might’ve made the difference and made her president I probably would’ve stayed home that day.

  8. oh, speaking of similar builds this is kind of an anti-recommendation for a tempest[fury] IMO. the staggered will constantly be overidden by a short-duration stun from relentless or returning storm, instead of it being temporarily suppressed and outlasting the stun. i got extremely frustrated by this dynamic in a party wiht a fury+spirit frenzy and also (worst of all) a cipher with mind plague (the long daze effect would get erased by the stun). so frustrated i abandoned the party mid-way through. edit: it was also frustrating enough that in my current new party planning where i've been contemplating re-visiting tempest, i pick up blood frenzy instead.

  10. If I remember correctly, watershapers can't cast beast spells, so Teheku won't be able to pick up this spell. But Fassina could get it. She' a great addition as a sorcerer IMO.

  11. If it has to be a summon then instead of the Vine I would pick the Oozes (Call to the Primordials). The collection of Oozes is random, but one of them can cast Plague of Insects without limit. But I think for your character Rusted Armor is the best pick.

  12. Ah right - sorry. I somehow didn't think about that. If Tekehu is healing you up nicely and you stack some regeneration gear I guess you won't need Savage Defiance that much. I think it's safe to not take it. No problem, you took Barbarian's "Blooded" which works as an health indicator just as well. In general that is true. But in synergy with Blood Thirst it can make a difference if a spell like Relentless Storm kills an enemy on the fourth strike or already on the third. It also has an impact if you get the refund from Barbaric Smash or not. And even against tough nuts it can be good: some of them have still a lot of health left when they are near death. More crit conversion and higher damage can't hurt then. It's not gamechanging though so it wouldn't matter much if you wouldn't take it. To me it's just a passive that adds a bit of fun (bc. bigger numbers on crits can be fun ;)). I wouldn't drop Barbaric Smash. It's an awseome "finishing move", especially for a dual weapon setup. You can do the same cancel-trick with Bounding Boots. That would spare you an ability point. You can cancel that Leap from the boots, too. The 2 per-rest uses will not get lowered if you time it right (pause/unpause/pause etc. quickly while the char is in the air and do that until the green character circle appears at the target location - before landing. Then hit the x-button. THe combat log will say that you canceled Leap but your char will still land there but the Daze effect etc. will not get triggered - you will still be stealthed if you were before by the way).

  14. There's too much railroading in it for my liking, and the "epic" levels aren't nearly as interesting as the lower ones. I mean, in DD, for me, the most interesting and rewarding levels are somewhere between 4 and 13ish. Before that, you're likely to be killed by a frail kobold accidentally dropping a feather somewhere near you, and after that you're essentially unkillable if you have a proper group and you know what you're doing. BG2 is my all-time favorite, but I hardly ever touch ToB anymore. Interestingly, I very much enjoyed SoD the first time, but I subsequently tried playing it again and just couldn't do it.

  16. I played the previous game on PnP settings, which translated into "Custom" in the game, because the "Normal" difficulty has enemies dealing less than 100% damage on criticals (may have been 50 or 75, I can't remember). I changed that to 100% so the difficulty was exactly as it says in the original manuals. I didn't min-max, as I intensely dislike the whole idea. The game was occasionally hard, but I liked the challenge. It did get ridiculous towards the end (the last chapter, which has been roundly and deservedly criticized for its encounters), so I changed to the easisest mode simply to finish the game. I would like to think that Owlcat has heeded the criticism it received and that there is no repeat of the last chapter in this game. Based on this, I'd say you do NOT have to min-max if you play on Normal or close-to-Normal difficulty.

  17. Now that I'm thinking about it, @theleemight be right about making this abilities for only. There are few abilities in this game that doesn't display their AoE. Clear Out is a good example, and it's quite annoying. But Screaming Souls would become the only ability with unclear AoE that can cause friendly fire. I believe this could really be super annoying. Setting it to foe only would solve the second issue. It could be : -5m wide base AoE -1.5m wide foe only secondary AoE, excludes center target (foe hitting themselves with their own scream while allies don't would be weird) -30-50 raw damages -Distracted affliction What do you think ? Would it be too powerful ? It compares well with Spark the Souls, less damages but raw and instant. Also more conditional. But Spark the Souls is for SC priests only that are good AoE nuker, while Ciphers should probably not be. I'm considering adding self-target to Smoke Grenade to give another option to Street fighter to activate his effects. Throwing a Grenade at your feet should hurt. That would be to compensate the loss of a potential party inflicted Distracted.

  18. That's completely missing my point, which is my bad for not making myself clear. The whole reason I was asking is that i don't want to have to play a specific optimal build, I want to be able to come up with some wacky cobbled together nonsense put together in my twisted brain and still be able to get through the game. Granted, vidya games and PnP are (sadly) not the same thing, but back in my PnP days my favorite and most memorable characters were decidedly less than optimal. In fact, my favorite character of all time was downright terrible going strictly by traditional stats for the class (thief). In a vidya game you don't have the same freedom to get creative and go "off script", largely because you don't have a GM to work with you, but I still like to play weird and unconventional builds that follow some wacky concept in my brain, rather than a spreadsheet that worked out all the math for what is most optimal.

  19. am thinking the mod in question is once again shooting past irony. the custody issue were most assured not an example o' "make stuff up" and imposing on people. best interest of the child is the guide for the judge in custody/visitation/whatever. show a judge were unreasonable in concluding an unvaccinated parent poses an increased health risk for a child? is gonna be tough to prove such with enough certainty to overturn the decision and ignoring legal aspects, is tough to argue such a position is common sense unwarranted. judge not have to be irrefutable correct but cannot be obvious wrong. to criticize hurl given the mod's own mischaracterization is... amusing. converse, a judge forcing a doctor to violate ethical demands o' the profession is rare. do no harm is a thing. doesn't matter that the patient is dying. ordinary, the law won't compel a doctor to provide medical care which is likely to cause harm even if the patient is dying. 'course in end o' life situations there has been conflicts 'tween judges and doctors. the judge is clear wrong on the law in this situation, but from a practical pov, it don't matter. is likely a doctor may be found who will administer the dewormer and will be up to the hospital and another judge to block administering o' the treatment. trump were booed at a recent rally when he advocated getting vaccinated. republicans no longer have control o' this. six years ago antivaxx were embraced almost exclusive by hippie moms, minority communities and a few ultra religious groups, but thanks to trump pushing fake news narrative, promoting distrust o' science and the equal curious injection o' faux libertarian (no compromise on guns and masks and anything they imagine is a Liberty Right) into the national republican platform o' grievance and fear, republicans now face the choice o' holding on tight and riding the tiger or getting mauled by the beast they created. HA! Good Fun!

  20. I think the games applies standard rounding for the purpose of displaying numbers in-game (without decimal points) but does its actual calcuations/effects with a decimal point. Net to your core question, if you're a primary tank / secondary healer you probably don't need to invest in MIG and you can focus on other stats: keep in mind that to increase healing effectiveness, as a Herald you can pick Mercy & Kindness (+50% Healing done - party wide aura!), Practiced Healer (+15% Healing done) maybe even wear the Footprints of Ahu Taka (+10% Healing Done). And that's already a lot more impact on your healing that your MIG score can ever affect. Oh and if we're talking about your MC, if you are playing no-rest, get Dawnstar's Blessing from Waenglith: another +50% Healing done for the Watcher!

  21. It would be foe only (except screaming target won't take damages from its own scream) 2.5m radius 12-20 raw damages per Spriti/Vessel. Keeping the original 2.5m radius would be more similar to original intent and would cap damages vs single target (while being an excellent 1000 cuts enabler for SC Ciphers) A bit different from Spark the Soul of the Righteous AoE, and thematically linked to Silent Scream.

  23. Yes, I understand that. But I'm not sure I will be able to do it given the technical issues I had. What I can do is to make a variant for you . But including it in the mod would lead to non autonomous files (one requiring another), which I want to avoid. Now I'm also thinking about setting screaming soul to its original AoE but with Silent Scream damages (12-20 raw) That would lead to respectable damages, esp Vs vessels/Spirits, but will cap it Vs single target. Smoke Grenade isn't an explosive, it's one of the Smoke Cloud upgrade. Powder burn Distracted has been removed by BPM nerf anyway (it was stupidly easy to activate). But that's why I'm reluctant to remove other self inflicted Distraction from Streetfighter.

  26. yeah, reason is a dead ends on this. if you are buying horse dewormer from a feed store you is quite obvious afraid of covid-19. as between the horse jelly and a vaccine which has now been functional tested on many millions o' people with an extreme low incidence o' side effects, why would a reasonable person choose the horse jelly? is not reasonable. however, such choices may actual be described as logical and/or rational even if not reasonable. recognize that the chance o' death is known and acceptable when compared with the more likely negative impact o' being seen by your community as a traitor or weak. knowing choose possible death to avoid social stigma may be rational even if is unreasonable. similar, the politicians who is active discouraging mitigation efforts and is willing to see corpses stacked like cordwood in temporary refrigerator truck morgues as the obvious and immediate cost o' such choices is being rational. if the votes they anticipated lose is greater from embracing sensible mitigation efforts than is the votes lost by embracing the death cult mantra, then the corpses is a rational choice if one accepts that retaining political power is the actual goal as 'posed to the interests o' the electorate in staying alive and/or healthy. am thinking one o' the obstacles faced by those who is trying to combat hesitancy regarding vaccines and mitigation efforts is the belief that those resisting is irrational. how do you convince an irrational person to change their behaviour? wrong approach. these folks ain't actual irrational. if you understand what is genuine important to the people objecting to wearing masks and getting vaccinated, then solutions is no easier to reach, but is at least a start. assume fear of death or serious illness to self and loved ones should be a primary consideration is a mistake. the chance o' death is statistic not high and is far less certain than the stigma which will accompany being a traitor to peer group beliefs. the choice being made by many o' these folks is, as hard as it may be to believe, rational. there is a failure to recognize just how powerful is current level o' polarization and the peer group pressure being exerted. fear o' possible death v. certainty o' shame. course recognizing that these folks is not actual irrational hasn't provided Gromnir with any meaningful solutions, so... regardless, as americans, am suspecting history is not gonna look kindly 'pon us and how we faced the greatest health threat o' the last century. HA! Good Fun! ps recall socrates willing chose death instead o' exile and the philosopher's choice were not political.

  27. Going to say min-maxing unless you're playing on an easier setting or are exceptionally good at these kinds of games but even then there are some serious difficulty spike encounters. I think they're mostly if not all optional but you may not know that when you encounter them. It is definitely a game where you can build yourself into a hole.

  28. For the sake of referring to the primary source, and since the declassified summary of the US Intelligence investigation into the origins of covid-19/ SARS-CoV-2 is pretty short: Actually short enough that it barely requires a tldr ("we don't really know much, it's not a bioweapon though). (weirdly hard to find a direct link to the report summary, despite it being fairly important. I had to go through Science, none of the mainstream media seemed to want to link to it)

  30. Minor warning, episode 13 is a clip show, but it's not really skippable, otherwise you'll miss important thematic points (which you most likely won't notice until later, but still...). It's also pretty good for a clip show. That can't be because Juri is the best in everything. The most likeable, the only character with a normal, relatable story arc and of course her voice is like the smooth feeling of silk against my ears. It could be worse, you could be really young and old in mind and spirit instead, and be like a certain Sklld!* poster here, spewing garbage every day. You're pretty well off with being old in soul then. Not that I disagree, music in anime really used to be better. Music as a whole used to be better in the past. Not all of it, obviuosly, but as far as mainstream goes, for sure. I have no real explanation for liking X. By all accounts I should post here like I did with Sailor Moon Crystal, complaining about characters narrating what's on screen, for instance. Yet, even for all its flaws, it looks really good. There's a striking atmosphere created by the use of colors and visuals that simply works, regardless of how ridiculous it might be that they're locking up the Sacred Sword (tm) in a technological sealing container that's then chained up by magical chains of chaining (also tm). The setting is really everything they could come up with thrown together. Virtual reality computer hacking through Satsuki's powers, dreamwalkers, dreamseers, all sorts of esoteric powers ascribed to Japanese religious sects. Nothing of that should work, and it really doesn't at times, but when it does, it is great. Seiichiro and Karen, for as little of them there actually is, have an on-screen chemistry I haven't seen in a while. They just work. It's dark and edgy in a way that I would normally laugh at, however, the only thing that really bothered me was the *snap* change of Fuma where his personality is simply replaced by Kamui choosing sides. That kicked me out of the show and I had to take a break. The awkwardly placed flashbacks and repetitive story narration is grating, just not as bad as it was in Sailor Moon Crystal. It's on a similar level whenever it comes to the plot of the anime, but everything else is better, so it makes much less of an impression. In the end, it's really like Jay said when he talked about Skyfall, a film I hated with a passion, by the way: The little - and sometimes big - things don't matter as much when you enjoy the overall product. Although, much like the old geezers who think everything was better in the past, I hated every last Daniel Craig Bond so far. They might be all right action films, but there's a certain expectation I have from a Bond film, and none of them had any of that, and it's totally unrelated to him being blonde, and totally related to him being a more grounded character in somewhat gritty action films, instead of stylish and flashy and ridiculous. When I want to watch the Bourne Indentity, then I watch The Bourne Identity. Oh, I agreed with all the critics and the fans that the last few Brosnan Bond films weren't good, and that the newer ones with Craig are much better constructed - except for A Quantum Solace, because that's like the Into Darkness of James Bond films, but like all of Nu Trek, it ain't Bond. Whelp, that's become a rant. *Explanation spoiler:

  31. yeah, clear out is special because it has an AoE effect that uses your weapon attack, not because it has a knocking around/physics effect (compared to mule kick's knockup). mule kick is just a single-target ability that uses your weapon attack. mule kick is still very good though.
