Got my second shot of Moderna today. So that's done and dusted, at least until we get a delta booster, perhaps.3 points

There's a weird trend I've noticed amid modern entertainment watchers that seems to insist that every important event must be detailed or else nothing makes sense. It first stuck me when J. J. Abrams said he could never get into Star Trek because he couldn't understand why Kirk, Spock and Bones were friends (lolwut?) and thus why the Star Trek reboot 'fixed' that by showing their first meeting (or something to that effect). And I was like...when did that ever matter to any of the stories they told? Its like saying you can't understand Casablanca without the details of Rick and Ilsa's previous relationship and break-up. That said, I don't think Star Wars was made worse by revealing the answers to lingering questions so much as hurt by answering them in poorly conceived ways. You could have set up Anakin's injuries and even Obi-Wan 'winning' without making Anakin look like a dweeb whose petulant anger blinds him to the fact that he's stupidly endangering himself. I also think this is why everyone seems to think a tv show or a movie needs to be an origin story of some kind, whether its the start of a friendship, and antagonism, or whatever. Don't get it.2 points

Yikes. I was scheduled to get my shot at work tomorrow after our lunch break, but they called late today and told me they have leftover shots and I could get it done one day earlier. Good thing I did, because my arm feels as it if would fall off. Other than that, no side effects so far. The first shot had the same effect, just milder, so I'm kind of hoping that's all.2 points

I keep reading that headline as "Lockheed's F-35 topless competition in Swiss fighter contest." and I keep doing a comedy double take reading it.2 points

Obsidian seems to be keeping up with the state naming convention. There may even be more than four things in various stages of production. 18. Louisiana - Pillars of Eternity 2 19. Indiana - The Outer Worlds ------------------------- 20. Mississippi - [???] 21. Illinois - [???] 22. Alabama - Avowed 23. Maine - Grounded 24. Missouri - [Josh Sawyer's unannounced project] 25. Arkansas - The Outer Worlds 22 points

I tend to look at the benefits... no office toilets (shared between multiple companies), nobody at the next table believing his ocd tapping with his pen against the table rivals Jon Bonham's drumming skills, no cacophony of sales guys constantly pacing around in circles behind your back yelling at their mobile phones, nobody next to you that is convinced his exotic seaweed food is better off eaten in front if his screen rather than the lunch room (never mind that the whole area stinks like stagnant ocean air for the rest of the the day)... can't say I miss it much. (If I ever get to sit next to an ocd "leg twitcher" in an office again, I might end up behind bars... after ripping if his legs)2 points

That is, essentially, the Scientific Method applied to the problem though. If someone wants to prove that you can do 'impossible' 5000g acceleration with a 'man' made object then they do have to prove it, and in a testable way. Ancient Aliens style "you can't conclusively prove some grainy unverified footage wasn't aliens (with 5000g acceleration), ergo it was aliens (with 5000g acceleration)" doesn't really cut the mustard, and it's also a really antagonistic style of argument that begs for a highly negative and dismissive response. That's changed a bit with the new evidence, but you can only go on what there is available at the time. The question about the existence of aliens is slightly different, of course, in that we know that life has evolved at least once, and to a level that is capable of extremely slow and limited interstellar travel. Given the number of stars in the galaxy let alone the universe the idea that we are unique in that respect shows... extraordinary hubris, and isn't a position any scientist should be taking. The question as to why they'd bother visiting us especially in such a way as suggested is very much an open one though.1 point

Ok, maybe third in line to the throne behind Manu and Lebron. I only put King James so high because it's so ridiculous to see a dude 6'8" and 250 flail around after barely being touched immediately before or after bulldozing his way to the rim.1 point

That really is an unbelievable fact, because 5 clearly is more than the double of 2.25.1 point

Worse than Manu Ginobili? I've seen Manu take dives like he was playing for A.C. Milan.1 point

It's unbelievable that THEY let this guy run both Star Trek and Star Wars straight into the ground directly into the abyss. Isn't just the fact that they obviously have worked together for a while and have used their individual strengths to make it through thick and thin good enough of an explanation for why some people could easily be friends despite their differences? Gosh...what a freaking hack fraud. Those are bigger details than probably the kind of absolute garbage majestic and I are thinking of - more like the utter insanity such as the "woodoo hide" crap I linked in the image. Or any other completely inane details at the same level of stuff you'd find in RedLetterMedia's "TOP TEN THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT DARTH VADER'S SUIT!". Who writes this crap? Man, is that what that is? It's perfectly okay to have characters that already have established history and friendships and such while letting the viewer figure out the dynamics through context clues and clearer explanations when necessary...1 point

^ That Ford image reminds me of a video I watched this morning re: food industry (restaurants from fancy to fast food) having trouble getting people back to work for them. One place mentioned that in desperation, after getting zero applicants, they raised their starting wage by double - and suddenly had tons of people applying/wanting the job.1 point

There I was, shilling Violet Evergarden on a different forum because hey, why not, and I browsed a bit through IMDB reviews. There's a bunch of user reviews that Mike and Jay would have a field day with, if they were into animation and reading user reviews, because they were written by the sort of retards that they loved to complain about in their earlier Half in the Bag episodes. The sort of people who think The Empire Strikes Back is the most boringest of the Star Wars movies. Can't believe how many of the reviewers complained about the lack of exposition about her backstory. What happened to her parents, why was she in the military, why was she allowed to join the military in the first place (now that's a weird one, does that person think child soldiers are recruited?), how come she's such a good soldier? What happened to Vader, why does he need a suit? How did the Republic fall to the Empire? Why does the Death Star have an unprotected exhaust port? What were the Clone Wars, where, when and how did Han get the Falcon from Lando, what happened between the two? How did the Emperor and Vader kill all the Jedi? Hey guys, do you think Star Wars got any better by having these questions answered? Do you believe that Darth Maul became even more badass by officially surving being cut in half by Obi-Wan? If so, please do humanity a favor and make sure you don't procreate. None of these details are necessary for the anime to work, and what explanation there was in the source material wasn't great, so it was dropped, with nothing of value lost. Geez. Yeah, sorry, rant over. Pain's making me a bit cranky there. xD1 point

That makes sense, Boeroer. Thanks. Fortunately, there's no shortage of real spell casters from whom spells can be stolen.1 point

Lagufaeth Mages are not "real" wizards, priests or druids. I guess they just have some copied wizard abilities but are not actually of the wizard class. The Imprint spells only work on proper wizards, druids or priests. Unfortunately it's not always easy to determine who is what. I also guess enemies like Rathûn Flamecallers won't work. Xaurip Priests do.1 point

Some academics have been studying UFOs (just as they do parapsychology, etc). I think the problem is less about 'academics' and more in general a problem with people who tend towards "absence of evidences IS evidence of absence" (or seeing is believing) that plagues certain people's logic in any field.1 point

Picked up Horizon Zero Dawn on Gog. Enjoying it so far, though the transition from the "tutorial" part of the game to the "main" game was slightly jarring. Hope we get to do some archaeology at least, figuring out what happened to "those that came before" is usually high on my list of things I try to dig into.1 point

Ah, pity, the Sourcerer is probably the single best hacking villain I've ever seen. Hammy beyond belief, utterly terrible actor and of course totally inaccurate. I did not say that. The drawing is pretty good. Sure looks better than Clear Card too! No, I don' think there'll be anything weird. Other than the film being a bit too like an anime film and not enough like Cardcaptor Sakura, but I've complained about that at length before. The villain of the movie is voiced by Rei from NGE, but I said that before. Insomnia sucks. Luckily, while I have major issues actually falling asleep (sometimes takes hours even though I'm dead tired), actual phases where I can't sleep at all are fairly rare. I barely ever sleep enough and often go for weeks with only 2 or 3 hours of sleep a day, but it's always at least a bit. Hope that'll clear up for you soon(ish). Seems to be a general trend with our forumites too, judging by the other thread about daily experiences. Talking about otakus is not that easy. I don't remember much about the quality of the documentary, to be honest, only that the people interviewed were stranger than I was at the time, which was pretty impressive. Nowadays I know that Japanese society as a whole is stuck in a place between insanely complex social norms, tradition and fast paced modern life, so counter-/subcultures have to be even more extreme (than ours), and kind of naturally end up being complete outliers in terms of human behaviour. In general though, yes, football ultras are the dregs of society once they turn from being utterly devoted to harmful, which invariably seems to happen. As for being devoted to things that don't really matter, who am I to judge? Live and let live, as long as they're not harming anyone else it's all good, as far as I'm concerned.1 point

My favorite excuses for making people go back in the office are "that's the way we've always done it" and "I like being surrounded by other people." One of the companies I was consulting for is absolutely feasting on all the people quitting because they want to continue working from home and their former employers were forcing them back in the office. I've also been seeing news stories about a lot of larger companies rethinking their in office requirements. The company I'm with now is full time remote until September or October when they may go to one or two days in the office with the possibility of staying fully remote. If they go back to in office more than a couple days a week then I'll be looking for something else too.1 point

It's there, but it looks so abject and like something that I'd get one minute into before I closed my eyes and covered up my ears to try to prevent myself from seeing or hearing anything of it to avoid physical pain. What? I was just posting an unrelated Tomoyo! Maybe you don't like the art style? Shame! ...But for real, I'm PROBABLY ACTUALLY REALLY going to watch that movie tomorrow morning, especially considering I've been awake just about around the clock for a few days here while being unable to sleep. If nothing else, that makes for a good time for getting through some stuff like I've been doing, . Hopefully there won't be anything weird about jumping into it from there after being away from it for...three, four weeks now?1 point

IMO, Enduring Dance wouldn't be worth it if your main character is going to be the tank - works great on an off-tank, though, especially if you use Stealth and ambush tactics (you can generate a couple extra Wounds while your tank does his thing, then pop out of Stealth when ready). Enduring Dance works really well with reach weapons (Pikes and Quarterstaves) and Instruments of Pain. Not a lot of talk about Drugs in this thread when they're integral to your build. Due to stacking rules, many of them won't work too well with Monk but here are a few standouts: Mouth Char: 5% damage reduction, +15% damage /w melee weapons. I'm guessing the specific "/w melee weapons" would stack with generic active damage boosts. Deadeye: +5 ACC, 15% chance to score Interrupt on Crit Hit. This one could be useful if you aren't planning on using Enduring Dance or Perception Inspirations (Blessing, Tactical Meld, and such). Svef: +3 PER, -25% hostile effect duration, resistance to Mind afflictions (INT, PER, RES). Obvious synergy with Sacred Immolation here, and the resistances rock. If we're talking about misinformation this report (pdf) may be of interest to some. It's the NZ Classification Office's report into misinformation and attitudes to it in New Zealand. Wouldn't bother reading the text, just have a look at the figures. And remember that, as always with this sort of thing, the questions are a bit... granular in some cases.1 point

Employees are quitting rather than going back to the office well, that’s sort of what I did. Although if I could’ve gone back to the same office I used to work in I would have. The new office was in southern Memphis. Who the hell needs that? to tell you the truth so I would’ve thought the last year would’ve demonstrated the economic value of a remote workforce. Offices are cost. First the rental is usually by the square foot. There is electricity, cleaning service, cafeteria/commissary, and your workforce is usually only productive during the hours they are in the office. Working from home literally turns them home into the workplace. Anytime they are there they are working. Productivity goes up and it cost you less to get it. People working from home by their own coffee and provide their own electricity and internet connection. You are paying less for each productive hours and getting more hours from them. And they thank you for doing it! To me it’s a no-brainer.1 point

The Fox crowd has spent years conditioning its audience into disbelieving the mainstream media. Once that happens, what do you have left to believe in other than conspiracy theories? Here's a conspiracy theory: he was fed a line about the NSA by the Russians in order to stoke the fires of government distrust and paranoia in his audience. Putin would love nothing more than to see the USA intelligence agencies dismantled. Heh.1 point

Oh God here I go again. I just can’t help myself. THE SEMINOLE WERE NOT IN FLORIDA! Not until the treaty that ended the first war in the 1820s. THEN they moved down into central Florida. Then South Florida after kicking the army’s ass in the next wars. They lost eventually and ended up in Big Cypress which kind of sucked for the Miccosooke who were already there. Speaking of which where are they on this map? Don’t see the Apalachees either! Nor the Chicks! NOT HISTORICALLY ACCURATE. i’m sorry guys. I’m so ashamed but I just can’t help myself.1 point

It is in my class. Technically we divide it up into more units over a couple years of teaching history. Aztec and Maya get their own lessons. Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico blend with the Age of Exploration, and the Northeastern stuff is all separate. In California, we also focus specifically on the California tribes at one point.1 point

I didn't really feel the depressive part honestly, or if I did that didn't leave a lasting impression. I felt too detached from the world although I saw some of misery of certain part of Neketaka. And I much prefer the "boring" standard fantasy. Just a matter of taste I suppose. However, you calling it boring is very subjective and I wouldn't be sure it matches with the majority of the target audience of the game. And I am happy to explore different and other type of world but PoE2 didn't grab me. I liked the Mass effect, Tyranny for example, did a much better job in the those specific aspect than PoE2 did (for me) and I wouldn't say it's your typical fantasy either.1 point

Guys I think you guys should put Portuguese translation. Here in Brazil the staff has invested a lot in games. And sad to wait about 1 year to someone release a playable Portuguese translation. '' Original sin Divinity '' is an example of this here in Brazil. The game has already released some time ago and still do not have a translation. Result is that many Brazilians still have not bought it as I have the game yet to have isso.Para idea the renowned '' ice wind dale '' Not yet possesses a translation. I would ask on behalf of all the people gamer BR so if possible you guys put a translation pt br.1 point
