  1. Streamed games mean you can't make mods for them, so I will never touch em.

  2. Ideally, wealthy countries would just load cargo planes and trucks with pallets of vaccine (the easy to transport ones) and simply give it away, because it's in their own self interest. No good vaccinating your own population if less developed countries become "reservoirs" of virus, that not only are ready to jump on the next plane back to developed countries (who would then either get new waves of infection or need to start a scheme of vaccinations in perpetuity). It also has the inherent (as far as I see it) risk of the virus mutating further and further away from something the current vaccines protect against. It's such an infectious agent, it simply needs to die, all over the world, for anyone to feel the threat has passed, put the masks aside and start rubbing more than elbows again.

  7. Oh man, I knew I was missing someone major when I listed the handful of examples I had: Grey DeLisle. If you ever watch Avatar: The Last Airbender, her role in that is...woof. Let's just say that you'll never be able to hear her voice ever again and NOT think of her character in that show and be immediately suspicious as a result. ...Well, that's not entirely true, because she's actually super talented and plays a number of characters I didn't recognize her as, but any character where she plays a similar sort of voice to the one she played in Airbender, . (e): Speaking of BG characters... Agreed. The English isn't...bad per se, and it's nice to be able to actually understand the lyrics directly, but otherwise it's impossible to argue against the Japanese. @LittleArmadillo0 What's your rough impression of the show so far?

  9. so, not just whataboutism, but 200 years removed whataboutism? what the british or americans or leprechauns did wrong two hundred years past does not some how diminish the evils being exacted upon the uyghurs of 2021. hoon wastes an opportunity. why not blame on the greeks and their slavery and misogynism? clearly western culture was bankrupt long before the british, no? is a desperation move to embrace the putin/trump playbook on deflection. HA! Good Fun!

  11. Here's a short and simple example of how and why feelings shouldn't be used as a judge. I think D:OS2 is essentially rubbish. I quit playing it after a couple of hours. However, my feelings don't matter at all, because the fact that I purchased the game means that I contributed to its success. My purchase matters, not my feelings. So, the important question is why so many potential buyers did not purchase Deadfire in the first place. How they feel about the game matters a lot less.

  13. I wonder why the Judgment games aren't on PC (yet?). All of the Yakuza games are on PC, minus the weird Japan-only spinoffs, and Judgment presumably uses most of, if not all of, the same tech. They even share maps and other assets. There's no technical reason for the lack of a PC release and it's on both Sony and Microsoft consoles, so there's no exclusivity deal. I would think they'll eventually appear on PC, there's no reason for them not to, but for now it's console only. Between this and the Shin Megami Tensei 3 remaster, I'll actually have a reason to use my PS4 for the first time in over a year, so there's that.

  14. Yep, similar to the situation with the AstraZeneca/ Oxford vaccine where it was designed at Oxford but licensed to AstraZeneca to make, except BioNTech does have some production capacity of its own in Germany and there's no requirement for the vaccine to be sold as not-for-profit with their partner, which the AZO agreement has. So while AstraZeneca makes no money from it Pfizer manufactures something like 95% in their partnership, and it's almost entirely on a for profit basis. At cost is ~11USD per dose judging by what they charged Brazil, so they're marking up by 90%- at least- to others.

  17. @Bartimaeus So far I'm really enjoying it. I'm normally not a fan of anthologies but from what I have seen each episode connects very well with one another. The editing and transitions of the show is so far is one of the biggest strengths of the series. It manages to blend reality with dust a dash of delusion. Knowing Kon's work I expect that delusion is going to get bigger as the series goes on. Those are some Leiji Matsumoto legs right there.

  18. I do plan on watching it eventually, I've heard only great things about it. Except that movie, obviously. Grey DeLisle is in a lot too - she's like voicing half the female cast in Clone Wars, for instance (ok, slight exaggeration here, but she does have 4 or so prominent roles). She's also in a lot of the animated DC films that are almost all way better than the live action DC movies, like Gotham by Gaslight. Or of course the Handmaiden, Nalia and Viconia. However, I often don't recognize her. Unlike Jennifer Hale, although she does have a few roles that are "huh, that was her?" like one of the two voices of Xel'lotath in Eternal Darkness. Then there are cases like Kristoffer Tabori or Kath Soucie, whom I do not think aren't talented, don't get me wrong, but they do have really distinct voices that are easy to pick out. In Jennifer Hale's case it's probably her accent and when it comes to Claudia Black, oh boy. Try as she might, she just cannot not sound like Claudia Black. I mean, not unless she's wearing a voice distorting battle suit. edit: I just realized that joke comes off as mildly homophobic when you don't know what's usually inside that armor: Imagine how much worse this gets when Pedosus starts appearing in Netflix suggestions.

  19. If When Stadia gets abandoned later this year, it will be the least surprising thing ever. When Stadia was announced, pretty much everybody said "it's destined to fail." Cloud gaming may happen successfully one day, but that day is not today. The internet infrastructure has to be there first and the latency problem needs to be solved, or at least reduced a lot more than it has been so far. You can't put the cart before the horse.

  20. For anyone who doesn't think Bruce is spouting rubbish, (1) the US still has an export ban* (2) it has an export ban on vaccines it hasn't even approved, eg Astra Zeneca (3) it has enough vaccines to vaccinate everyone eligible, already- the stockpile has only increased since January so has outstripped demand for 4 months even when demand was peak *which at least they're waiving for expiring stocks of vaccine- and less credibly, to try and stop people using Russian or Chinese vaccines (ie the at cost Pfizer delivery to Brazil) Which is eminently sensible in general, but it's also part of the reason why the US can support suspending patents, now. In contrast, the EU's home grown vaccines aren't online yet (except German BioNTech production, and labeling J&J as Janssen) so having their patents suspended would mean that they actively lose money on research etc. For anyone terrified for the bottom lines of Pfizer et alia consider that the EU is looking to buy 1.9 billion doses from them. At the lowest charging rate that's ~20 billion in profit that Pfizer would not have had. At the rate they charged Israel it would be ~40 billion in profit. My heart bleeds for them at least as badly as it does for some anonymous indian peasant in Bihar hacking their lungs out.

  22. I seem to recall that there's also a difference in ship speeds: on Normal (or whatever it's called), the Defiant's default sails can outrun all ships in the archipelago (so you're effectively safe from everyone, if you want to be), but this is not true on the higher difficulties.

  28. I do plan on watching his other work as well. I'm not certain when I will get to that and I really need to wrap up other projects first, before I start another venture into obsession and lose all control over my free time. I'm dangerously close already, and... it's really hard to not just follow down the next rabbit hole. It takes an annoying amount of effort right now, and it does feel uncomfortable. Not as much as having half a dozen things left unfinished though. Baby steps here, baby steps. A friend of mine and I like to play the "spot voice actors in Bioware games" game, because they really recast a lot of them. Since you mentioned Jennifer Hale already, that is one voice that is becoming somewhat problematic for me. She's... becoming immersion breaking. It sure feels like she's in everything. Looking at her IMDB page that isn't just a feeling. She is in everything (including Eternal Darkness, which is incidentially a game that made me feel a similar unease playing as you did while watching Perfect Blue). Keith David has the opposite problem for me, it becomes really weird when he's in a film, like in Pitch Black. Claudia Black is also in this film, who... is also a staple of Bioware game voice actors. Pitch Black is also a much better film than you might think if all you know are the much more ubiquitous action trash sequels, and it's interesting to see Vin Diesel playing something else than the power/revenge fantasy he becomes in the sequels (and is in his other films). Sarevok, by the way, was in an episode of How I Met Your Mother as security guard with the soul of a poet: Such a disconnect from the usual association that comes with his voice.

  30. keep in mind, trump's kraken lawyer tried to use the tucker carlson defense recent. You Literally Can't Believe The Facts Tucker Carlson Tells You. So Say Fox's Lawyers conclusion: reasonable people do not believe fox. the thing is, civil litigation ordinarily uses a reasonable person standard. criminal is different. for many crimes with a common law origin you need actual intent. however, there is a whole bunch o' statutory crimes where your intent is a non-factor. simple example: if your speedometer is busted and you didn't know you were traveling at excess speeds, you will still be given a speeding ticket and you won't be able to claim your busted speedometer as a defense. foxitis might seem like twinkie defense kinda stuff, but diminished mental capacity is not new and foxitis might not be as ludicrous an option as it first appears. won't be just foxitis or foxmania, but show that fox viewing exacerbated some kinda preexisting mental defect could be enough to reduce or even eliminate charges in a few situations. is still kinda a desperation defense, but is not hard to imagine that a few o' these clowns is, from a legal pov, defective. would be amusing if fox were compelled to add a warning to their broadcasts informing viewers the risks to susceptible viewers o' watching their programing. HA! Good Fun!

  31. I recently noticed a few people giving me some kind of award icon on Steam forums, and when I looked those up, apparently I have over 52,000 "Steam Points" (yes I had no idea they existed, before), probably largely from purchasing my games. Quickly glancing around it would seem to allow me to "purchase" around 5200 smilie icons (if there are even that many available). I love smilies, but that would be a bit excessive... I see no other use for them that I'd care about at all (fancy profile page stuff? avatar frames? pfft, don't care). I guess all of these Steam thingies are like a whole mini-game unto itself for some people. Me, I don't even care about in-game achievements...

  32. Most likely just a troll post on twitter (and people who eat that kind of stuff raw and actually believes it if it resonates with their own bigotry) The (twitter) posters account is just a bunch of religious garbage, bigotry and racism. I.e. someone who lost at the game of life. Would make a good Trump follower I suspect. Lacks the brain to be anything else. Edit: And yeah, looks like nobody has any idea what the mysterious discord server could've been

  33. "DIsco Elysium" predictably didn't have any. I'd say New Vegas count too, since Lanius isn't boss-bloat difficult? Did Fallout 3 have the end boss fight? Can't remember moments before the ending, its sublime stupidity trumps everything. And that's all I can remember. "Prey" and "Dishonored" aren't exactly RPGs, but I remember how pleasantly surprised I was at the absence of end bosses in either of them.

  35. The diseases are rare because the vaccine rates are high, so herd immunity is in play. When vaccine rates drop enough they'll come back, especially something ludicrously infectious like measles which will happily infect 20 new people per infection if it can. (The 'funny' thing is that when we had a measles outbreak here a couple of years ago lots of supposedly 'educated' antivaxxers were first in line to get their children vaccinated- their refusal wasn't based on anything other than it not being 'necessary' for little Jonny to get the jab because everyone else was immunised, and their immunisation was protecting li'l Jonny. Pure selfishness, both in terms of putting their children at risk and wanting everyone else to protect them from their stupidity. I've got a lot of sympathy for the people who didn't get it done because they fell through the cracks (mostly the poor and ill informed) but those others were just awful awful people)

  37. I have a confession: I really love the druid / paladin. I know, I know, it sounds weird. But there are a lot of fire spells. Like, a whole lotta fire spells. And you can be like a druid purifier, who sets the world ablaze so new growth can take root in the ashes of what once was. Firebug is one of my favourite spells. Can't say why, I just like the theme of it. And there are so many variations of druidic orders and paladin orders to mix, each of which gives a totally different theme and feel to the character. But, if you lean into the fire angle heavily, you end up fairly powerful. Plus, you get utility, heals, status effects, and dots. A Kind Wayfarer / Lifegiver is one of the best healing tanks you can make, and you have tons of brute force. It's easy to play both ranged and melee, as you have skills available to you that allow for both.
