  1. Yep. Albeit there are a lot of GOTY awards given out, so there are a lot more than one GOTY each Y. It was, by some. GOTY awards are very rarely popularity contests among people who play the games, generally they're popularity contests among those who review games, at the entity giving the awards. And there is often a large disconnect between what reviewers think and what gamers think. It also has to be said that (1) all too often game reviewers wish they were doing anything other than something as mundane, trivial and outright boring as reviewing games and (2) because of that reviewers are often desperate for games to be in some way Significant. Stuff with any semblance of that tends to get big ups, and treated as if it's the narrative and philosophical equivalent of Breaking Bad, even when it's closer to GoT S8 in both regards. Are they fringe opinions- or at least, are they fringe opinions more than those of reviewers are? Reviewers certainly have a bigger soap box to shout from, but that doesn't mean their opinion is right. Personally I have little to no doubt for a game like TLOU2 that the vast majority of people played it and either enjoyed it, or didn't, but they also never really thought about it much at all, never ventured an opinion anywhere public about it, and have now more or less forgotten it. Because to most people games are entirely disposable entertainment and they spend as much time thinking about it as I have for Paul Blart: Mall Cop*. As such the most common opinion is probably some form of indifference with those who care strongly about it either way being fringe. But, of course, you're a lot more likely to venture said opinion if you care about something than if you don't. Criticism is just human nature. *which I rather enjoyed but have spent approximately 15 seconds thinking about since it ended, almost all of them now.

  2. Feel free if you'd like to post about a time (there are probably many) when Boeroer un-stuck you from a difficult situation in Deadfire, or opened your mind to new possibilities with a fantastic new build/combo of mechanics. For me I must say it was back in PoE 1 with his adorable Bilestomper build. What a delight this little dude was! @Boeroer here is a cake made of cheese for you on behalf of this community:

  3. I started my adventure on obsidian forums by seeing some post by Boeroer and then I read all of them (poe2 related). Game has been much easier and more fun after that. I like the way you are always helpful for anyone asking even though it means answering the same questions over and over again.

  5. These awards mean nothing. They are given out like candy. What I remember from the days is that half of reddit gaming subs were full with that bs.

  7. I'm right with them. These days everything needs to be turned into a series or cinematic universe or whatever, because money, but some things are just much much much better left as a standalone, from an artistic point of view. Spec Ops told a story, it told it well, it had a beginning, a middle, and an end. Story told, message delivered, it's done, finished, over.

  8. Agree, these games are phenomenal on their own but no way would I have enjoyed them as much and for as long as I have if it weren't for the ideas and knowledge shared in these forums. I smile every time I leave the game for a spell only to return and see Boeroer and others still actively helping others or collaborating on the mods that have improved my experience. Many thanks Boeroer! Also, many thanks to the regulars here who have helped me and others enjoy these gems more richly. I won't mention names, but you know who you are!

  11. This! It's so nice to see you guys, and Boeroer in specific, caring so much for this game and the community here. Thank you you might not be the ones this game needs (to be successful) but the ones it deserves

  12. Ok, the great basement migration is back on after I got my last quote of the day. My wife just got a new job and she'll be working from home a lot so she'll need some home office space and since I already have an office she wants to move into it. That sucks for me because she's the exact opposite of me, she wants all the light all the time. I figure it'll be better to give her my current office and move mine to the basement that way she gets all the natural light and we won't get in each other's way. Sorry, should have given the full story in the first post but I didn't think anyone would care

  13. Glad you asked that question Boeroer. I quickly loaded up Deadfire and tried this and indeed: you can stack both charms on one enemy (if the second charmer is confused) and give that charmed enemy the body inspirations as well as the bonus damage. Cheers! Edit: Confusion is cool. For example it also allows a paladin to cast exhortations on charmed enemies (which would otherwise be impossible). Buffing up your charmed guys like there's no tomorrow, yeah!

  15. Because it does not do much for you if you have a reliable source of healing. If the healing outweighs the damage you receive then it doesn't matter whether your health pool is 200 or 300. And if your healing is less than the damage you receive then +100 health will just postpone the inevitable. That why I think (generally speaking) that CON is the least important attribute. But not for a Bloodmage in turn based combat as Haplok pointed out. If you expect to receive a lot of burst damage between heals (for example via Blood Sacrifice) then a bigger health pool (via CON and/or stuff like Amulet of Greater Health and/or Tough) is good to have. Besides that it's nice to have high fortitude (and CON contributes 2 points of fortitude per point of CON) - but I usually would first raise MIG before I think about CON. But also in this case (Bloodmage) it's something else - because Blood Sacrifice's self damage scales up with MIG, too. If you use Blood Sacrifice multiple times in a row (bc. free action in TB mode) with high MIG and low CON you will kill yourself - which is not that much fun.

  17. I have 2,6k posts Thelee has 3,1k posts And both of us are pretty big posters here, I think. Fun to consider than Boeroer is basically a bigger poster by an order of magnitude. And still manages to build a Patio in his garden.

  18. I think Red Hand with the modal and its 2 attacks still beats it quite handily, unless you're considering backstabs from stealth. Red Hand is the only weapon I've used that could attack twice per round in Turn Based mode (and for example, Concussive Tranquilize 2 enemies/one enemy twice in a single round). The 2nd attack was not immediate, but always happened in the same round.

  19. Well, tanking is different, I realize that. Still, I wouldn't entirely ignore the very important considerations I had when making a Turn Based nuker: 1. You buff to the teeth in Round 1 (Free Actions). I don't think you'd skip that step as a martial caster. Then you recover most/all of these lost spell slots via Blood Sacrifice (Free Actions again). You need a humongous health pool to recover like 6+ spell slots consecutively, in one round and still maintain a healthy buffer to avoid one-shots. This is kinda optional on a martial caster I guess - but why go Blood Mage if you're not gonna take advantage of its main perk? 2. When you've done this, you're more then likely to be Blooded. Hence the Human Fighting Spirit bonus would trigger. +7 Accuracy and +15% damage is nothing to sneeze at. Now whether you want to fight in close quarters in such a (somewhat risky) condition or not depends on you. But being able to fight with these bonuses and survive is certainly nice. 3. Lastly, without a doubt, the single biggest possible damage boost you can achieve is using Deltro's Cage helmet and shocking yourself with lightning (Jolting Touch will work early on, later Chain Lightning is much better - and it even gets the Deltro's lash on its bounces - that already target enemies). You do want to survive that AND those Blood Sacrifices. And in reference to multiple sources of healing: they are nice for sure, but Turn Based is a lot more bursty then real time. Both the healing AND enemy damage will tend to come in batches (rather then balancing one with the other over time). Enemies usually move one after another. But you'll only get your chance to heal when the turn of your healer comes up again. You generally need a bigger buffer (or stronger defenses/meatshields/CC) to compensate.

  20. Spec Ops is a special game. It's a prime example of the old adage "the road to hell is paved with good intentions". It's not perfect, but it captures the horror of war better than any game I've played. The fact that mechanically the game is such a bog standard, paint by numbers cover shooter works in the game's favor in lulling you into a familiar pattern, and then the weight of your actions hits you like a Mack truck.

  21. His Counselor Ploi build from POE 1 finally gave me what I needed to realize a character mechanically that matched the character I wanted to role-play, which turned the game from something I didn't like as much as I thought I should to one of my favorite games of all time.

  24. I've come to view inflation as a form of taxation. It's a tax upon savings, loans, and pensions. Is it taxation without representation? The Fed seems to control it, rather than Congressional representatives.

  27. I think the reason why that scene in Spec Ops works (for most people) is that they don't think about their actions when doing it. You know how it is... you're "in the zone" and you just do stuff, because you are told to do it. Not a second spared to question the action. On a second playthrough it then falls apart, though, because you know what's going on, but the game forces you to do it anyways. Now the whole emotional impact and "wa-- woops" is gone.

  29. am gonna admit, there has been some upside to the pandemic. pre pandemic, we never shopped at soopermarkets. however, the whole "ecart" option we have from the local belair/raleys has us doing a considerable amount o' our grocery purchases w/o ever needing to get out o' our car. no dealing with rude fellow customers. don't need chat with the checkout people and make obligatory small talk. didn't brush our teeth and we stink from our morning bike ride? no worries. our pandemic suit is a hoodie, baggie knee length shorts and some kinda slip-on footwear. slight variations almost every single day. however, have not descended to the point am wearing socks and sandals. that is a basement we refuse to enter even during the daily horror movie which has been the covid-pandemic. given our newfound enjoyment o' unapologetic sloth, is quite possible much o' our pandemic lifestyle (at least insofar as grocery shopping is concerned) will continue even after any serious covid dangers has past. HA! Good Fun!

  30. Wasn't OP asking for single classes specifically or what does "SC Tank" mean? In that case (?) - and if we talk about relatively reliable tanking from level 1 on - I would say that Fighter or Paladin are the way to go. With a bit of effort also Trickster and Wizard right from the start. Stalker might work, too (if you are using the Animal Companion effectively). Even an Ancient can be used for tanking quite effectively. The Sporlings are pretty good in the early levels. One tier higher you can then use Wild Growth to give them +2 AR and endless regeneration. At the highest levels they gain very good health and a very long duration. With Wild Growth they can tank for a whole (normal) encounter. And of course by then you will have multiple other summons which can tank for you. Chanter also has summons which can tank a bit. The early ones are flimsy but you can recast as often as you like. The later ones can be very tanky. The Dragon is one of the tankiest summons because of its immense health pool. If you have a Chanter and an Ancient in the party you can cast Wild Growth on the Dragon...

  31. @oKareno - “I may or may not want to restart” I’ve restarted, I think, 4 times now. I absolutely adore this game, from the entire concept down to the sound of placing individual resources into a blueprint. I can’t wait to see it as a finished game.
