The Shadow Sun Official Trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyfmC_E_dLk

available for iOS from Ossian Studios

I don't quite understand why people target iOs for anything but puzzle games. Am I just so out of touch?

A windows release would have me interested. Ossian did well with Mysteries of Westgate.

I know Ossian is talking about possibly doing an Android version after the iOS release, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a PC version.

If it comes to Android I'll likely get it.

Edit:  I'm also thinking about scooping up an Android copy of Shadowrun Returns.  That game would be perfect for my phone.  I wonder if there would be some wacky way for me to share save files between my PC and my phone.  It would be pretty sweet to play the game at home, then be able to continue on the go, and vice versa.

Of course I'm not saying this applies to all games but lets not dismiss the impact a game can have

I can't stand it when people say "video games aren't serious". video games are a new form of art/entertainment. like movies were in the 20's and 30's. They can be as serious as they intend to be, and someday will MORE engrossing and evocative than any film could hope to be. we haven't gotten there quite yet, but there have been moments in gaming that show glimpses of it.

i've cried while playing video games, because of the game itself. twice that i can think of. (walking dead was one of them). how many movies have made me cry? probably about a dozen or so (same for books). I play games for many reasons, but one of them is that I genuinely believe "video games" are the single greatest form of art/entertainment/media we have, and dismissing them as being unacceptable vehicles for social discussion and/or emotional engagement is, imo, dismissing film and literature in the same breath.

edit: video games DO have an issue in that most major releases have the emotional maturity of a G.I. Joe cartoon at best. but you can't dismiss the entire medium because the popular trend is to release trashy fiction/railroad-gun-simulators

edit 2: also, comic books. most of them are pulp fiction, but some of them are literary works that have a lot of weight and depth. I hope that video games will eventually evolve past where comics have.

I think the problem here is you get a lot of "games are art" people who think all games should strive for a higher purpose and the pulpy GI Joe games aren't worth making, and then you get the fans of dumb fun getting all defensive about it. Games can be art, and they can be fun, and they can be fun art. There is room for all of it.

Well movies are largely considered a legitimate art form, and they range from the Ingmar Bergman's Persona to the insanely dumb Transformers.

Studying fine arts in my uni, one of my professors once told me: "Art is the world "fart" without the letter 'f'". By his definition, art is basically anything that comes out of you. Whether or not it's a "good" piece of art is a whole nother can of worms.

Quote
“Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.”

-Jonathan Littell <<Les Bienveillantes>>
Quote

"The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete."

Thifourf Ditches QTEs

Stealth reboot Thief no longer includes any quick time events, developer Eidos Montreal has confirmed.

The change was revealed in a Q&A post with the game's development team, posted on the official Eidos Montreal blog.

"We're not implementing them," studio spokesperson Valérie Bourdeau explained. "To begin with, there were very few instances of QTEs in the game; in fact there was only one in that whole hour-long E3 demo.

"However, given the strong reactions it evoked in the press and the community, it was an easy decision to do away with them entirely. So we're not doing it. No quick time."

Other features discussed by the development team included confirmation that game won't feature any swimming sections, and details of the "hardcore" difficult mode where you can toggle modifiers to make your playthrough more challenging.

"Hardcore mode... allows players to customize the game in a number of ways. One of my favorites is the Ironman: if you die, game over. Hey, what is life without a little risk? We even added a "If the enemy detects you, you die" mode. Now combine that with the Ironman... You get the point!

"There is also the possibility to disable Focus and related abilities, as promised. This is in addition to the option to disable specific elements of the UI, like the reaction icons for NPCs. The UI list is pretty extensive, so don't worry, you will be able to get the game just the way you like it."

The lack of QTEs is the latest revision to the game as it nears release next February for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The game's XP system was also recently culled due to negative fan feedback.

That's a nice bit of good news.

So this post is art?

*farts wetly*

It's not very good art, but sure.

I don't know why everyone treats art like it's magic. There's a lot of crappy or abstract art out there. Doesn't stop it from being art.

i didnt know blood bowl 2 was even a thing!  i'm pretty excited because i think blood bowl is a great game but the pc version is not the most polished bit of software, a full bore sequel could be just the ticket

Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.

Blood Bowl 2 screenies:

It looks nice but unless you get all the teams included in chaos edition surely it's going to step back in terms of gameplay? Do many people care enough about the graphics that they're willing to buy another (4th time for many BB players) copy of a game they basically own already? I've answered my own question haven't I?

Last of Us prequel DLC announced. That's news, so...

That's entirely a matter of personal perspective/opinion.

To apply some sort of humanistic/philosophical meaning to something which has no meaning is a solid definition of irrationality. A fart is a natural process resulting from the activities of bacteria in your colon. It was bacteria that produced the gasses which build up to a high enough pressure that they cannot be contained.

So, what are you guys thinking about the incoming Fallout 4 announcement? Maybe it's the sooper-seekret next gen project Obsidian is working on?

What Obsidian? It's Bethesda and it's gonna be sheit. MAAAYBE they'll let Obsidian make an addon if they feel like it. Obsidian didn't even manage to get 85 on metacritic last time.

It's Matrix/ Slitherine, so don't expect it to be on other websites any time soon.

It is most likely a fake.

Nah, site registration is from Poland. Thus I can categorically and definitively say that CDPR are announcing their third game in development.

(I would be highly amused if it were a follow up to that Polish Fallout clone from a few years ago whose name escapes me)
