  1. I want to say KOTOR II is the best game by Obsidian, but the state of that game makes that assumption very dubious. KOTOR II is the one I've enjoyed the most (so much so I finished it twice, which never happened with any other Obsidian game). would love to play a remaster with all the cut content properly restored. but yeah, objectively, I think, the label of "THE BEST" should be reserved for New Vegas. would love to play a remaster using the latest Bethesda tech. would love to play some D&D on the Pillars of Eternity engine (yeah, I know it's Unity, I mean the isometric backgrounds, optional TB combat etc.), maybe NWN3 could happen? a man can dream. as an aside, I don't know what it is about PoE II, but I tried going through it twice and dropped it in the middle both times. that game is too big for its own good. Tyranny is pretty cool, but I can't beat it, too hard in the later stages, I just don't get the progression system. honestly, I crossed out Obsidian after learning that they were developing Outer Worlds, Grounded, and Avowed, with no hint at isometric games in between. expected a lot more from Pentiment. that game just makes it too easy to miss stuff and accidentally finish the game early. I just didn't understand why stuff happened to my character, what actions led to it, so I was frustrated all the way through. but maybe that's because I played it shortly after getting into Persona 5. anyway, in my ideal world Obsidian would be hard at work making Dungeon Siege 4 with full-party combat (mules included!), isometric NWN 3, and KOTOR 3.
  2. kind of crazy that Arma 3 is still going, while Reforger barely makes any progress. we stopped playing Arma 3 because no matter what upgrades to our hardware we made, the game would still run rather poorly, showing its age. honestly, I expected BIS to go all-in on DayZ as a platform as soon as they released 1.0, but I guess that doesn't make sense to them, which is unfortunate.
  3. not to derail the thread but while you owned "nothing" in the USSR, you didn't pay for it either. I don't think that's the model Ubi execs have in mind
  4. This drove me insane in both Original Sin games, so much so, that I actually gave up on BG3 as soon as I saw it had exactly the same combat. for a game that is touted as having "the best turn-based combat" it feels extremely sloppy and imprecise. not sure what the problem with making combat have a grid was, for example.
  5. love the FF discussion, but guys... is someone forcing you to use Roman numerals when discussing these games? I spend half the time deciphering what part exactly you're talking about anyway, the best FF game is obviously 9, as it should be since it's the last FF game with heavy involvement from Sakaguchi AFAIK. but I am kind of sad to see FF 12 (my personal favorite) not getting any love from you guys. as for FF 16, "played" it on YouTube, and my very short review follows: voice acting is great; CGI cutscenes are amazing; story is unbearably bad, writing in general is just weak (too many coincidences convenient for the plot, if you know what I mean), main character is written as an idiot for some reason, very unlikable; visual design is strong; combat is generic as hell, Eikon battles are unnecessarily long. reminds me a lot of FF 13 for all the wrong reasons.
  6. heard that D4 open beta fried several 3080 Tis, so beware. as for the Stalker 2 leak, I found out about it on the social network (VK) it happened on, there's a huge thread with screenshots and concept art. not sure what the leakers actually wanted to accomplish with the leak itself, as far as I can tell it's free publicity for the company, as the concept art looks amazing, the map is huge, and it actually makes the game look better than it probably is, so much so that I wouldn't be surprised if the leak was orchestrated by GSC themselves for brownie points
  7. you can in Conan Exiles, so I don't see why it wouldn't be possible here too
  8. the thing is I'm not from Russia, so something weird is going on, my guess is GOG is using a "carpet bomb" approach to blocking IP-address ranges, and my IP is within that range even though territorially I'm right next to Poland.
  9. GOG keeps denying all my transactions and that link doesn't work, so I'm guessing my Internet provider works through Ukraine or something, and GOG is denying me service because they think I'm a combatant
  10. Still playing Elden Ring, after 200 hours I'm roughly half way through the game, enjoying most of it, though some bosses are becoming really annoying (tree spirits be damned!) the views, they are what keeps me going To keep myself from going insane I swap Elden Ring for Genshin Impact from time to time, and while the game is just a poorer Zelda clone, it can be cinematic and slight spoilers!
  11. in the hundreds of hours I've spent in DCS I never tried aerial refueling now that I think about it I don't remember the last time I landed a plane safely
  12. am I the only one not getting any images to show? also, is it tied in any way to this game? https://store.steampowered.com/app/370870/Dark_Future_Blood_Red_States/ EDIT: oh wait, I didn't realize Dark Future was a Warhammer game
  13. that's terrible, because it's just making the engine space that much smaller, Unity isn't in any shape to compete with UE4, and now yet another engine team will just disappear. I don't want all games to be made in UE5
  14. the only way to play the original Witcher game is to treat it like a NWN total conversion. that was the only reason I even bought the game in the first place and I liked it. then I tried NWN 2 and forgot about TW for a long time. TW2 was a huge disappointment.
  15. With the help of a bunch of friends got to a new area in Elden Ring, and honestly, just riding around gathering stuff that just lies around makes the character so much more powerful, not sure why they locked this loot behind a story wall One of the friends is pictured here, but behind her is the real reason why I'm here: that samurai armor Yoink! And the other friend, hopefully we'll have many great adventures together
  16. yeah, my Elden Ring screenies look nowhere near as good but I'll post them anyway!
  17. Spoilers ahead, but there's a list of enemy levels for each area which kinda tells you the natural order of progressing. So, depending on where in Caelid you are you could be way outside your intended zone. my char is level 101 and I still haven't even gone to Redmane Castle, I want to get a couple of quests done before that. But I do occasionally get my ass kicked in Caelid (I found Millicent's quest really hard in the beginning).
  18. no fans of Shadow of the Horned Rat or Dark Omen? for shame
  19. so, to toss my two cents into the Elden Ring discussion pit, it's the game of the decade for me and the best RPG since Persona 5. someone here compared it to Conan Exiles, it actually feels very similar in terms of how the world is designed, although technically ER is vastly superior. it also reminds me of Final Fantasy for some reason. I've been told by the people that own a Switch, that ER is basically a Zelda game, but I'll have to take their word for it. and just to clarify, the only two games from this company I played in the past were Bloodborne and Sekiro, and I hated both. Bloodborne due to terrible controls, Sekiro due to terrible vertical level design. Elden Ring on PC fixes most of these issues for me (although, the combat in Sekiro is superior in my opinion, would love to have that as an option in ER). anyway, I won't write a review or anything (I have a lot to say, but I'll keep it to myself), I'll just address a few issues other obsidianites brought up recently. namely, GRRM's involvement and the whole plot thing, combat, the open world and role-playing aspects. not sure how many of you have read ancient literature (Norse sagas, Greek myths etc.), but one of the things that makes GRRM's writing stand out is how he emulates story beats and styles that are often encountered in those early examples of storytelling. and you can see a lot of that in ER. I won't spoil anything here, but the influence is very noticeable, it gives the game this incredible atmosphere. I did catch myself many times feeling like I was actually experiencing a fairy tale. love the quest design, easily the best approach to doing quests in an open world game IMO. you get to an NPC and talk to him, he/she drops a hint on what you should do next, and that's it. on the one hand it makes quests easily missed, on the other, you aren't required to complete any of them, so when you do stumble across a quest resolution if feels very rewarding. some of the quests are incredibly story-rich and all of them have tragic resolutions. everything else in the game's story is traditional FromSoft stuff with the elder gods and demi-gods doing their thing far as I can tell, not interested in any of that personally. but that's just fluff that never interested me in games. combat on its base level is mediocre due to how heavily enemy design relies on the player evading attacks and not blocking. even though parrying and countering are a thing, they're very situational, while evading is universal across all enemy types. personally I think it should be the other way around (like in Sekiro, where the emphasis is on parrying and countering), but I can make parry/counter work with certain builds, so at least it's an option if you're willing to invest the time into making it work. as for the open world, again, it's some of the best design I've seen. games like the Witcher 3 or Skyrim don't even come close (even though they're clear influences, as well as Assassin's Creed, I'm sure). the variety of environments, the attention to detail, the hundred different enemy types representing warring factions and poor creatures stuck between them - all of that makes the game world a joy to just traverse and take in the sights. as for the role-playing part, I love that the game has at least three secret endings and another three unlockable variations of the base ending, all of which require you to jump through hoops to reach but all of which are optional and skippable entirely. I really enjoy building up my character and trying different approaches with bosses I can't beat. for example, I was having trouble with one particular boss (the first Crucible Knight you meet in Limgrave) and just couldn't get through no matter how much I tried spamming skills. I then tried parrying and just couldn't get a hang of it, but then I found an ash of war that added a special kind of parry to a shield of my choice, and that was the winning recipe for me. I like how crafting isn't forced down my throat and can be ignored completely. I like how intuitive the stats scaling is. unlike some other games I didn't need to go through millions of guides to figure out how to build my character. the equipment screen makes it self-evident. anyway, I'll just stop here before this turns into a wall of text. one downside is the UI of course, it's borderline unusable but can be customized somewhat which makes it bearable.
  20. so much Elden Ring talk makes me want to share my screenies
  21. this is kind of depressing, tbh, since I think Deadfire is vastly superior to both of those games. but I didn't finish it anyway, because it has too much content. I wish there was a "resolve combat automatically" button. but to be fair, I never finished either of the DOS or PF games, even though I own them. they are just complete crap in my unprofessional opinion.
  22. that 10 USD coupon from Epic finally made me buy Cyberpunk 2077. can't say I regret the purchase, it's an interesting game, although terribly flawed. so far the feeling I get the most is "this is Call of Duty with an open world". not necessarily a bad thing, but take me out of the experiences in some instances (world missions are almost always bugged/crap). love all the secondary characters, though
  23. Disco Elysium is a weird little game, that's for sure, but it has heart
