I mean, it even had realistic horse testicles!

But does it have realistic breast physics ? No, the West has ceded that to the Japanese!

Probably some other edgelord type content Western developers won't put in, either.

The drug-addled, Exploited by the Patriarchy™ and possible victim of abuse or human trafficking portrayal is a dime a dozen, no doubt. Try to go a bit deeper and the twitter slacktivist hordes are going to fall on you like a ton of bricks.

I think it's also useful to distinguish between games in general and AAA titles with hundreds of millions invested in marketing efforts that can be undone by (social) media hysteria. You aren't going to find many groundbreaking counter-cultural achievements in the latter category, for obvious reasons.

Isometric RPGs are nearly all very boring.

Most lauded games are well crafted, but are also dull and a chore to play. Red Dead Redemption 2 comes to mind.

I don't have strong opinions about this!

how strongly do you feel bout that? am knowing it were intentional, but makes our brain itch seeing you take a position o' relative indifference and then using an exclamation point to do so.

unpopular opinions, none o' which we feels particular strong 'bout:

rtwp v tb is stuff folks get their panties in a twist 'bout but ain't near as important as most suggest!

chris avellone, excepting the ravel puzzlewell character from ps:t, is overrated!

fallout's SPECIAL is not special!

sci fi v. fantasy setting choice is even less important a consideration than rtwp v. tb!

amongst the worst mistakes a game developer could make is to give fans what they want!

balance is a vital concern in any crpg!

HA! Good Fun!

For all intents and purposes sci fi games and fantasy games seem to be the same thing if you remove the cosmetics.

In my experience only stupid people are attracted to isometric RPG's with excess mechanical features.

Smart people seem to be attracted to graphics-rich atmospheric games that are simplified.

You would think it would be the opposite but the human psyche is indeed very strange.

Hey. watch who you call stupid! 😠

I wouldn't want to miss out on the countless thousands hours of fun that games like Jagged Alliance 2 and X-Com 3 gave me (and still give me) for some hollow, dull game play with shiny packaging 😝

with shiny packaging

After I built a new rig I want shiny packaging sometimes. Because it looks great on the 4k TV and is super immersive in a visceral way, and I like having that experience.

Problem is, 98% of games that have such shiny packaging aren't games I want to actually play, or don't have an art style/setting I like.  Thus I either fire up FFXV for the millionth time or I'm playing an older game I could've played on my ancient previous rig and I wonder why I ...

It's all about gravitation from concepts.

Let's face it, there's a lot of stupid mother****ers who still clamor for Old Skool games and there's plenty of con artists out there trying to cater to such people and take their money.

At the same time, there's people like me who hate drab and lifeless glitzy games with no sustenance but at the same time are eager to evolve and enhance these modern designs.

Evolution from modern concepts > devolution from old concepts.

I kinda hit a wall wrt "mechanics". Is it Grim Dawn with the crazy ability tree? Gave up. Also every 4x game seems to overload me with choices. :(

EDIT: Whats the game where the ability trees are like a zodiac?

EDIT 2: Ok, maybe "zodiac" is a bad description. There are ~6 (7,8 ?) ability trees you can invest in and, iirc, they are shaped like animals?

Witcher 3 style leveling "mechanics" (that word is going to become redundant real fast!) is probably the best basis for modern games/rpgs/Arpgs whatever.  You have three color coded skills and you define which color blend reflects you best.  It's simple yet complex at the same time.
