I care more about prestige classes than I do multi-classes. Having both included would be great. What intrigues me the most is the idea of sub-classes. Like choosing to be a totemic druid, or a musketeer fighter, a swashbuckler rogue or a wild mage. Does anyone else want the ability to chose a class variant at character generation?

Orlan & Aumaua
.Leif. replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I wouldn't mind Aumaua looking like battle-toads. Something about the idea of a Saurian/Lizardfolk race being included in the base races is attractive to me. Perhaps it's because 2 or so of the players in my Fantasycraft game are Effet (Frog-folk). Something about the description of the Orlan suggest to me that they'll be somewhere between a Hobbit, a gnome and a Mogwai. I wonder if the Jarren will make a comeback. I love fighting hordes of cannibalistic midgets. Don't ask me why. If Obsidian adds any races in the expansion pack I hope they let us play as Orcs. Or Weresharks. -

Crafting and Classes
.Leif. replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
What do monks craft? Lectures? I don't really agree that certain classes should be tied to certain professions. It frees up the rogue player who wants to dabble in herbalism and the barbarian who would like to try his or her hand in alchemy. Some druids may work the forge to create powerful weapons and stead-fast armor. Each profession or skill-set should have interesting interactions with each of the classes. I think it would limit gameplay if certain skills were linked to certain classes. Let me determine what my character is best at, not class-bonus lists. The only hard-and-fast rule I would say is regarding the magical enchantment of items. Perhaps the Druid, Cipher, Wizard and Priest all have a different list of enchantments, I think it would be silly to make one class, say the Wizard, the 'best' enchanter. Why would you bother putting points into enchanting as a Priest if you knew you would never be as good as a Wizard enchanter? -
Racial Speech Skill
.Leif. replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Hopefully the Aumaua will know how to gurgle a message to the Weresharks, "Don't eat us, we taste like rot". I think given PE's funding having the characters (or party) only understand certain languages used by monsters or various factions would be interesting. You might take the Monk in a certain region because he could speak with the raiders. You might take the ranger because she can commune with the dryads. Want to talk to the giants? Take the Aumaua. Perhaps the Cipher could speak all languages through telepathy. Can we please not let the potential deadness of the Latin language derail this thread? -
The Philosophy of Release Dates
.Leif. replied to phimseto's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If Project Eternity needs another half a year or so to be made to shine as brightly as it can, Obsidian should go ahead and take that time. Things like this aren't a quick sell churned out yearly, this is a severe undertaking of a development project. I know the folks at Obsidian are professionals and like to keep deadlines stable for a myriad of reasons, but given the massive amount of funding this game received I believe more time wouldn't hurt. Just think of the Weresharks. -

Of Magic and Muskets...
.Leif. replied to Monte Carlo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You forgot Alchemical Fire Bullets, +6 Bullets of the Hackmaster and Vorpal Hexed Slugs. Magic bullets were already included in BG and IWD for the sing, so this isn't much of a leap for the setting they chose. This could be an interesting area for the crafting to cover. Ammo and Gun-smithing. I just hope they have a misfire system. -
Abandoned big cities
.Leif. replied to szelbisz's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Let the crowdedness of an area depend on the centrality of it compared with the rest of the polis and the time of day. I feel more NPCs in big cities are necessary. We don't need a life-story from all of them. It'd be alright to be reminded to "Bugger off" if we keep pressing folks for quest-tips they can't give. -
Trying to fend off a Kraken attack in a boat would be wonderfully horrifying. I have a feeling Golems are going to be included in the game. Koschei the Immortal sounds amazing, I may have to include that character in a Fantasycraft game I'm running. It'd be great to see some Germanic/Central-European creatures of myth included in addition to the usual Celtic troupes.

Martyr-Like Paladin/Saint
.Leif. replied to Felithvian's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I would really like the paladin to be morally ambiguous. Let's allow the player to decide what causes to take up and what to oppose. What if I want my Paladin to be a Paladin of Freedom and Cooperation rather than Law and Piety? Let's not forget the ever-loveable Blackguards. There is more to crusade in the name than simply Good or Evil. Let me be a Paladin of Nature Magic. -
I just hope various substances are handled in a mature fashion. Show the player what an Opiate addict acts like. Let the Player dare to eat the Berzerker's mushroom.

Godlike Races and Demi-God Stature
.Leif. replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I would like to emphasize the extent to which it makes sense for Godlike to be a template applied to other races. The Bhaalspawn wasn't just a generic human-centric tiefling, he/she could be a Dwarf, an Elf or even a Half-Orc! Unless there is some extraordinary lore-reasoning, I can't see any reason for Godtouched to be human-based. Let me be a Godtouched Elf! Killing a God (or three) by the end of the game would be great, especially if I could inherit their domain and powers. -
Please for the love of Odin no. Being a Lord (or Lady) of a keep is enough. This is a Roleplaying game, not a renaissance development simulator.

Unwinnable Encounters?
.Leif. replied to Tsuga C's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Sometimes it takes a little nudge to get the players to understand that sometimes you run as fast as you can away from battle. Few things can invoke terror in a player like casting defensive spells between frantic sprints to safety as a gargantuan beast chases them. I believe there was something like this if you ****ed up while in the Drow city in the Underdark. Players must live (or die) by the consequences of their actions.- 137 replies

More Sub-Forums?
.Leif. replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think they all work more or less but I would call Modding Technical instead. I don't recall anywhere it being posted that mod support is in the game for sure. I would like to be proven wrong here but we may not be able to assume mod-support on release day. Splitting the PE forum up a wee bit more does make sense. -
Of Magic and Muskets...
.Leif. replied to Monte Carlo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I really hope my Swashbuckler-fighter can dual-wield a cutlass and a pistol. What else would a proper bastard use after throwing a bomb at his clueless foes? Enchanting your Rifle should be more or less the same as enchanting your battle-axe. I just hope they come up with a more clever way to announce the weapon's power other than '+4 Blunderbuss of Bleeding'. Imbuing your bullets/buckshot with magic would also allow for your shooter to use the right ammo for the right job. -
PE will fail without this!
.Leif. replied to FlintlockJazz's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
We need more Swashbucklers in this thread. -
50 Shades of neutral. I would really like there to be a decent number of foes in the game who are actually rather well intentioned but simply of the wrong perspective. Religion, ideology and nationalism can take a great hold over people to make good people do bad things. Druids attacking logging communities may have the well-being of the greater-good at heart but that doesn't matter to the farmer who just watched his lad take an arrow to the heart. Priests and Inquisitors of the Church of Tauror may heal the weak and injured wherever they go but that can't morally compensate for what they do to those who they deem 'deviant' spell-casters (magical nonfaithful) in rituals to please their petty deity. Character design and growth must play a big part in discussions of morality in video-games. Let characters shock and disappoint us. Let old 'friends' reveal dastardly allegiance. When I think of a really well-designed neutral character, I think of the second-to-last boss in BG:TOB, the Monk. His ethos and goals are reasonable, but his methodology is absolutely inexcusable.

Creating custom in-game avatar
.Leif. replied to Sedrefilos's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Though with sufficient options you can have a lot of fun (Skyrim, Eve Online, etc), I typically prefer 2D portraits to 3D. More often than not there aren't nearly enough options to switch through. My support for 3D portraits hinges on the number of things they will let me tweak. You absolutely have to have 2D portraits though, it's the IWD/BG/PT way. -
I think nothing is wrong with the feat system. Sure there are some feat trees to some extent but most feats are available to all classes. Feat-Tree based skill levels are usually pretty shallow when it comes to diversification.

If there are Vampires make sure they don't sparkle. If there are Werewolves we may get Weresharks. Less is more when it comes to certain classic troupes, and I think the whole Werewolf versus Vampire battle is a bit overdone.
