  1. It would be a pretty boring world if there weren't any political and social dilemmas in it.
  2. Is something like this also considered to be sexist boob armor? I can understand if it is offending if a woman wears a chainmail-bikini in a game (doesn't even really make sense either), but something like in this pic is perfectly fine, or not?
  3. I am EXPECTING the game to have a combat log. It really bugged me that Dragon Age did not have one.
  4. We now have 271 members! Wow! Welcome the newest members of the Obsidian Order! Tanglebones, Less Than Grand Wizard of the Obsidian Order Sarog, Cataphract of the Obsidian Order cuteLittleRabbit, Cute Rabbit of the Obsidian Order LadyMuck, Sentinel of the Obsidian Order nikolokolus, Bridge Troll of the Obsidian Order Don-Esteban, High Priest of the Obsidian Order Archmage Silver, Grey Eminence of the Obsidian Order SarahEarth, Angelic Catgirl of the Obsidian Order Gurkog, Tactical Response Unit of the Obsidian Order Ivelin, Proud Knight of the Obsidian Order I'm sending the list out to Fionavar. New members will receive their title soon.
  5. Choose a title and introduce yourself here in this thread. You will then receive your personal forum title. After the Kickstarter has ended you will receive a survey from Obsidian where you can state that the extra $8 is for the Obsidian Order. Until then it is honor system... so be honest. You can have your forum name changed if you like (might be a good idea)... and if you want a title then you have to choose one and introduce yourself.
  6. don't your lastschrift/bankeinzug cards have visa and mastercard capability as well? (in denmark there are direct-debit cards (not credit card!) but 99% of them come with mastercard/visa capability) Yes, we have debit cards, but Kickstarter (or Amazon Payments) does not accept them for international payments. I think this is because an online payment in Germany with a debit card can be cancelled according to the laws we have here (up to 6 weeks after your account has been debited!). We can use our debit cards and pay with PayPal, but Kickstarter does not accept PayPal....
  7. Real time strategy games use a similar mechanic. The enemies will (should) be very diversified, meaning they will have different types of weapons. So I either have the choice of constantly changing the weapons of half of my party to get the best effect, which would be tedious, or totally ignoring this mechanic, which means that I will cause less and receive more damage. This system alone can cause serious inventory clutter, and if you add enemy resistances and immunities, then you can again triple the amount of weapons you have to carry. It is an interesting idea and I do like it, I am just not sure if this is a good mechanic for a party based game like Project Eternity. I think the devs can increase the amount and diversification of weapons in the game without using the mechanic that you recommend.
  8. Backstabing. Rouges are DPS kings...which is soemthing I always found redicolous, when that scrawny thief with a dagger does more damage than my barbarian with an greataxe. Barbarians are tanks and rogues are damage doers... So it's not very surprising. So...Dragon Age combat then. Well that's it. I was trying to decide between the $140 and $250 tiers. Now I won't be contributing at all. An old school game with cooldowns. Nice. Unless MCA or Tim Cain can convince Sawyer of the wrongness of them. I'll wait to see if cooldowns are officially ruled out until the end of the kickstarter, but this game is dead to me now. Enjoy your Biowarian twitch-based popamole kiddies. I'll go back to replaying BG2 and anticipating Wasteland 2. I feel for you and I feel the same way. I really think cooldown is the worst possible solution. Just because Josh answered a question about this mechanic does not mean that it will be in the game.

  10. Pledge $8, choose a title and introduce yourself here. You can then add it to your kickstarter name if you like. It is an honor system at the moment, at least until the kickstarter ends and the pledges are set in stone.
  11. Double Fine Adventure had about the same amount of pledges ($2,1+ million) at this point and Wasteland was somewhere around $1,6 million. Everything is fine, don't worry.
  12. Project Eternity is well on it's way to be the most successful Kickstarted game to date, so don't worry. Anyway, we are directly in the middle of the campaign, where Kickstarters are always very slow. It will pick up speed towards the end... The last few days alone could bring in $1 million or even more.
  13. True. The D&D system could be exploited so that you did not need a thief at all. Not just for picking locks, but also for detecting and disabling traps. E.g. a cleric can cast "detect traps", then you buff your tank or summon creatures to trigger the trap. Then you rest (if required). Wash, rinse, repeat.
  14. ??? Baldur's Gate was fedex quest central. No, that would have to be Skyrim actually, the king of fetch quests. Anyway, a few fetch quests are ok, just not 80% of the game. Just do the exact opposite of what Bethesda did with Skyrim, then it will be fine.
  15. Everyone welcome our newest members! 16. Might be better to try and court North Americans if you ask me... Maybe an Xbox360 port, bundled with a mouse + keyboard? :D
  17. A volume + weight mechanic is fine, but why all of the different sized slots? Something like 250 weight + 500 volume would suffice, e.g. helmets are light but volumunous, battle hammers are heavy but use little space. It is an interesting idea, but these different slot sizes irritate me and is not better (maybe even worse) than inventory tetris in my opinion.
  18. O rly? http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/60487-where-is-everyone-from/
  19. *looks at topic* Maybe Obsidian should postpone the release date until December 2023 so that PE is 10 times better than the best RPG ever created. *chuckles* But seriously, Feargus said that the game will be released when it is done and that will be probably be around April 2014.
  20. Another awesome video from the legendary Tim Cain! :D Oh, and that pencil is awesome Tim. :3
  21. Having a DVD cased version is not really that expensive (if they sell it on their website). It gets expensive when they want to sell it at retailers. The distribution and logistic costs are very high and the retailer also takes a HUGE cut (I believe it was something like 40-50%).
  22. It is indeed strange and rather confusing too... The typos don't help either. ^^ Play Fallout 3, then you will know (Answer: Bethesda).
  23. I do believe that the game will work something like this, at least that is the way I understood it too. For example, a fighter will be able to use a sword based purely upon instinct, because their soul grants them this trait. They also have the ability to become great and powerful warriors if they have a "talented" soul. Same goes for mages, etc. I am not sure if this is what Obsidian is planning, but it is what I believe at the moment. Hmm, well maybe an elf will be more likely to receive a magic sensitive soul, because of bioligical traits... or maybe the gods intented it to be this way (or something else)? Further: Maybe dwarves are more prone to receive receive fighter souls, Humans receive equal amounts of magic souls, fighter souls, etc?
  24. I was just pointing out that there are already threads with tons of info and discussion on this topic, just in case you didn't know. It is absolutely fine if you want to start a new thread though.
  25. I absolutely loved the narrations in Baldur's Gate, they were absolutely awesome and extremely well done! :D
