  1. It's enough to stop them from spreading. Avatars are fine, but signatures will get annoying real fast. Yeah, I guess. But the shields could also be hidden with a "spoiler". I'd like to hear what the others have to say... and maybe have a democratic vote.
  2. Some of the shields are not very attractive, true. We need a template where you can simply write in the text... adding a personal picture for every shield is a lot of work though. I do also prefer LordCrash's shield design. I am pretty good with Photoshop, but there is no way in hell that I am creating 150 shields for all of the members. We need a simple template where the users can update the shield's text online (the pic too if they want). Is there a way to do this online? Something like google docs but just as a paint program? Or we just ban the personal shields and make an unpersonlized one that all members can use.
  3. Fellow brothers and sisters of the Obsidian Order! Welcome our newest members! Khaine, Demon Lord of the Obsidian Order, ddillon, Hellion of the Obsidian Order, Terror K, Simple Tailor of the Obsidian Order, Tobi, Apprentice of the Obsidian Order, Gecimen, Bartender of the Obsidian Order and arrowhead, Archer of the Obsidian Order!!
  4. Well the boxed colectors edition should be a kickstarter exclusive (at least this version). It would certainly be a strong incentive to back this game. But I am not sure if that is the case. I will ask Feargus when he shows up in the Kickstarter chat next time.
  5. It is kind of funny to read all of the posts on how being the "Chosen One" or a character that has a special heritage/lineage is boring and overdone. In other threads you can read about how many people consider The Baldur's Gate Series (special heritage) and Planescape:Torment (chosen one) to be the best RPGs ever made. ^^ If you ask me, being the chosen one or having a special heritage seems to be a good formula for making a damn good game. :D And I also seriously doubt that replacing the main character in those games with just "some normal guy" would make them better. I would actually consider the tribal in Fallout 2 not to be "The Chosen One", but just a regular guy. I mean sure, he was the descendant of the Vault Dweller, but the Vault Dweller was also just a regular guy (who just happened to save the Wasteland). I don't think this made your character special in any way and just because that crazy old shaman calls you the "Chosen One" does not mean a damn thing - I mean that guy was seriously hitting the hard stuff big time. What a crazy old cook. ^^
  6. ... no. Magic and magical items were not rare in BG1, there were loads of crazy wizards (looooads) and other magical items. After you completed about 20-25% of the game you didn't even have anything non magical in your inventory anymore. I know this for sure, I just completed my last playthrough a few months ago. The best items in the game (magical of course) were indeed rare - or even unique.
  7. I am 32 My first RPG was Final Fantasy on the NES My first cRPG was Rouge on the Atari ST My first PC cRPG was Fallout (I still own the box ^^) My favorite RPG of all time is definitely the Baldur's Gate series. BG/BG2/ToB.
  8. Are you kidding? They should release it for the 2600 so that the kickstarter goes up to 200 million! Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha /close thread
  9. Brothers and sisters! Welcome our newest members! Fandil, Dawnbringer of the Obsidian Order, Joe Maron, Mystic Mirror of the Obsidian Order and Severai, Infiltratrix of the Obsidian Order!!
  10. I'll make my own. I have photoshop on my desktop PC.... just to lazy to switch right now. :D
  11. The user critics are pretty good, because it is a good game. At least that is what I think. http://www.metacriti.../alpha-protocol Sega just forced Obsidian to release the game buggy and unfinished, same **** with Fallout: New Vegas. And they ****ed up the marketing too.
  12. You know, I chose "don't care" because there aren't many options. I do not wish to have a character that is a slaver, but I kind of like it when there are slavers in a game. You just love to hate them and killing those mother****ers is really a lot of fun.
  13. It makes magic less magical...and cheapens the entire setting. That's why. Even just naming an item differently can have an impact bigger than you think. Names cary meaning. There are connotation that are unavoidable. How something is presented affec the entire atmosphere. Designing a game is not to be taken lightly. There should of course be non-magical items in the game, like in BG. It improves immersion. But I have no problem with "generic magical items" like a sword+1. The very powerful magical items were extremely rare and even had their own names and history, which was excellent in BG. A "ring of protection +2", for example, was also pretty rare. It was always fun figure out who to give it to. Anyway, if that is what you mean, then I totally agree with you.
  14. This really isn't an option, because the game is going to have pre-rendered 3D backgrounds.
  15. Where would BG fit. Hmmm. Ah the second option, I'll take that. If the hero in BG/BG2 was just a normal guy, well, then the story would have been totally different and probably not as awesome as in the BG game. The BG games had the best story arc EVER. SPAWN OF BHAAL, THE GOD OF MURDER, YEEEEES! Anyway, Josh was talking about about souls and that some of them are special. The way it sounds they are going for option #2.
  16. We already have this game. It's called "The legend of Zelda". A sword+1 and better is actually considered to be a magical item. So if you simply call a sword+1 a steel sword instead... does that mean it is not magical then? As you can see, it is only how the devs interpret the items they create. Make everything magical, who cares.
  17. We already have a thread about this topic. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/60531-should-there-be-player-generatable-companions/
  18. I am not sure what you mean. If you pledge $8 on top of the tier you selected, then you can choose a custom, unique and permanent title, like "Dark Knight of the Obsidian Order" for example. After the Kickstarter has ended we will all receive our backer badges and of course also be able to keep our titles.
  19. It is kind of ironic. Most of the best wRPGs come from North America, but they seem to be more popular in Europe.... it could also be that PC gaming in general is more popular in Europe. Well, maybe they could also release this game for the xbox with a keyboard+mouse... hmmmm
