  1. @all candidates: Please read the first post of this thread! You must choose a title and pledge an extra $8.
  2. @The Dark One Avoozl: Like I said, you have a very subjective ways of viewing things. You apparently expect everybody in Europe to speak good English just because you can. A translated version of the game is for people that do not speak English very well - that is why they game is translated. You do not seem to understand this. Anyway, in New Vegas many things were not translated, like "Primm", "Sunset Sarsparilla", etc. Which is perfectly fine and correct. They only translated the stuff that needed to be translated, like "The Crimson Caravan Company" or enemy names, etc. What if the game was in Germany? According to you they should not translate Deutschland, Schwarzwald or Bayern into English (Germany, Black Forest, Bavaria) because of immersion. But on the other hand you would argue that "nobody speaks ****ing German" and that is why it SHOULD be translated. Do you even know what you are talking about? Anyway, if you don't like the fact that names of many creatures/enemies, places, etc. are translated, then play it in English. That is what I (usually) do too.
  3. Sorry, that was my mistake. It has been corrected; you will receive your title very soon! Please Pofski, choose a title!

  5. Ohhh, this would be an awesome idea for Thief 5: The Lockpicker But seriously, it is very interesting and a good read, but I do not think that this is the right thing for this game.
  6. Well, what do you guys think would be cool? Like if we were some kind of legendary order, that has hidden many artifacts and weapons of great power? We could also be some merry group of adventurers who fight for righteousness and justice! We hunt down any evil-doers and strike them down! heheh The Obsidian Order could also be a group of mighty PIRATES. YAHAAAR! ^^
  7. Hey guys, check out this comment from Feargus (maybe it was Josh, I am not sure): Q: @obsidian and how about including The Obsidian Order in a cameo appearance?? Like meeting Drizzt and Wulfgar in BG and BG2? A: @Manaf Absolutely, we want to do something cool in game for the Obsidian Order! Cool huh? I totally missed this comment until Madzookeeper told me, otherwise I would have posted it earlier! :D
  8. Look. I said it several times before in this thread. I'm saying it again. If they manage to translate it WELL I'm fine with it. But most of the time. Even in high budget games. They screw it up somehow. So unless they can make sure they get Tolkieneque quality level translations just leave it be. People can live with places and names being in English. They have to do that in the real world too. You have an extremely subjective way of viewing things - you need to learn to be more objective. Just because you don't like the way that some of the translations phonetically sound, does not mean that it should not be translated at all. Names like "Samuel Cooke", "Dimitri", "Las Vegas", "Grigorio" or "Narnia" should of course not be translated, the latter actually can't be translated at all, but everything else should be... like creature names. etc. Translating "Crimson Caravan Company" to "Karmesinrote Karawanenkompanie" is indeed rather unfortunate, but it is better than not translating it at all. Oh yeah, "Whiterun" sounds just as bad as "Weißlauf" imo.
  9. Oh then why not complain that they didn't translate the title of the game? Radioaktiver Niederschlag: Neu Vegas Awesome. Game titles are practically always in English for marketing reasons. Because no one here said that professions shouldn't be translated. That was only an example. what about the name of every town, name, monster etc. in The Witcher? Do you think it would have been better if all of this was not translated and kept in Polish so that it was as cryptic as possible for people in countries other than Poland?
  10. I like to hear the voices of characters, but it can become extremely annoying to hear all of the crap that they have to say. I can read like 5 times faster than these guys can talk. And sometimes they talk so slooooow, which makes the problem even worse. I normally turn on the undertitles because of this, but I have to mute the game, because I can't read very well when the NPC is talking. But sometimes I am just lazy and click straight through and resort to only reading the quest description my journal. If it is a very important NPC or a companion, then they can (and probably should) be fully voiced... but that is about it imo.
  11. Map notes are very important. I used them very often in BG2.
  12. For german they translated all the names and it sounds horrid as well! I think most german speaking players will want the names of places and people to stay in the original language. No. You just can't assume that everybody speaks as good English as you or me. It is absolutely correct that they translated the names. A few of the translations were unfortunate, but most of them were absolutely fine. What about "The Witcher" for example ("The Witcher" = "Wiedźmin" in Polish)? If the names were left in Polish, then they would seem extremely strange to me and I would also probably not even be able to pronounce them.
  13. Brothers and Sisters of the Obsidian Order! Welcome our newest members! RTWAP, 5th Junior Assistant Stable Mucker of the Obsidian Order, Pofski, Phoenix of the Obsidian Order, manaf, Chicken Wrangler of the Obsidian Order, DreamingVoid, Dwarven Defender of the Obsidian Order, L'invité, Trainer of the Obsidian Order, and Roxane, Cutitutude of the Obsidian Order!!
  14. You have to pledge $8 on top of the tier you selected. You choose a title (I see you already have) then I add you to the list. You will then receive your title on the next update.
  15. There isn't really much you can do about that, it is pretty normal that everything slows down, but we are not slowing down as much as Wasteland 2 or Double Fine adventure did. A publicity stunt would of course be a good idea, but I have no idea what we could do. But remember this? That caused quite a stir and publicity for the PE Kickstarter.
  16. Oh yeah, I sent the next update to Fionavar. He will update your titles when he is online.
  17. nobody is. you can't translate literally without damaging the language you are translating to - that's the balance and what makes a good localization. I'm well aware of the second part and I agree, but... I've actually been in a lot of debates regarding that issue. There ARE people around that seem to think you're performing a crime against the original product if you don't translate everything literary. The reason why I only play in english nowadays. The german translations are jumping just too much between "big shait" and "good"- with big shait often being in the majority. Also the voice over often is really bad. Just remembering New Vegas right now, german translation *and* voice work was so god damn bad. Impossible to play in german, imo. Besides, it is good for the own english skills to play it in english. :> If you want to hear bad voice work then play a Bethesda developed game in English. Horrible.
  18. I have already been looking, the news is starting to come up but hasn't hit the larger sites in Germany like computerbase.de, pcgh.de, pcgames.de, 4players.de, gamona.de, krawall.de.... etc. Maybe tommorow.
