  1. or, faster than light travel is genuine prohibited by physics as we understand and the galaxy is a whole lot bigger than most o' us is capable o' comprehending. forget the universe... is no earth transmission ever gonna reach another galaxy in your lifetime, or even your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great kid's lifetime. if there were ten people on earth, total, would not be a shock if they never bumped into each other, yes? assume the ten is limited to travel on foot per day and no radio. wouldn't shock if the ten persons never saw signs o' other human life, yes? galaxy is a whole lot bigger than earth relative to entire galaxy in our drake equation example. ten solar systems in the galaxy? we, as a civilization, has been sending out radio messages for a relative short period o' time, and the likelihood o' those transmissions having reached another inhabited spacefaring civilization in our galaxy is kinda remote even if we is optimistic using the drake equation. have even a million space faring civilizations in the galaxy that cannot practical travel much beyond their own solar system? we act surprised we ain't never heard from one? surprise is 'cause we do not comprehend just how vast the galaxy is. tv and movie ftl travel messes up pov when it comes to plausibility o' there being many space faring civilizations we never manage to hear from... evar. HA! Good Fun!

  3. I gave up on Lost in Space because I didn't understand how a space travelling family could make so many stupid choices. They also seemed super dysfunctional. I watched 1 episode and that was my verdict.

  4. Just to add on to Groms point. I'm sure you guys have been seeing stories in the news about how the apparent magnitude of Betelgeuse has dropped in recent months. It's apparent magnitude has slipped from .42 to 1.3. It was once the 9th brightest object in the night sky. Now it is the 23rd. Heck you can go outside tonight and take a look for yourself . But here is the thing. Betelgeuse is 428 light years away. So whatever you observe happened in 1592. Elizabeth I was Queen of England. Galileo invented the thermometer, the Falkland Islands were first discovered by the English. The news sites have been reporting and discussing this as though it is happening in real time. They are commenting that the star is "about" to go super-nova. Well, whatever we are seeing happened a long time ago, We are just now finding out about it. Look, I realize that we all "know" this already. So do the news outlets. But do you ever really "think" about it? What if FTL travel really is impossible? The galaxy could be teeming with life and we would never know. Like people marooned on different islands too far to reach each other. Nothing is more conducive to deep thoughts than sitting on a porch alone at night with a glass of quality whiskey and the stars overhead. I definitely recommend it!

  5. Canadian firefighters (or 'Kanadian' depending on who you ask) pitching in with a helping hand https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/canadian-firefighters-australia-wildfires-1.5410727 After hitting 40C+ degrees in every state, fire conditions are expected to worsen. For our American readers, that's the equivalent of every state from Oregon to Florida hitting 104F+ degrees at the same time.

  6. Salutations All Its mandatory to have a Christmas post over this festive time. What is everyone planning for Xmas and NY, this period is not just relevant for Christians but its where we can hopefully spend the time with family, friends or just relax with whoever we consider significant I am having Xmas in Durban with some of my direct family, this year most of family are going skiing in Lech in Austria so due to logistics and leave we not getting together at out beach cottage. I am not going skiing due to leave restraints so this Xmas I will be with some of my family. We going to be eating Turkey and Gammon as our main meal and for NY I will be flying to Johannesburg to see friends, we haven't decided what we will be doing yet So what is everyones plans and just as important what do you typically eat for Xmas and what do you normally do on Xmas eve and or day, I am always interested in these types of events Either way I hope everyone has a great time and here is to a good and prosperous 2020

  7. Hi! Our event was held on November 9th-10th this year where we were able to raise over $10,000 for the Children's Hospital of Orange County between our internal charity auction and from donations given during the stream from viewers. It was a very good year, and we'll absolutely be doing it again next year. You can watch this year's stream as a VOD on our Twitch channel.

  8. I keep wondering how many people have actually beat megabosses on TB mode for precisely the length reason. I mean I know someone beat the Ultimate but I don't think they shared their videos anywhere. Dorudugan sounds like an absolute chore in TB mode. The original IE games did have multiplayer RTwP. I think it works reasonably well for casual players on a lower difficulty setting (I tried it a few times with a few friends), but anything more than that and everyone is constantly stepping on each other's toes trying to pause/unpause the game. Definitely not feasible for like BG2 dragon/lich battles. Though it was like a real authentic, low-level AD&D experience in BG because we'd keep getting each other killed by wandering off and getting crit by gibberlings and there's no real way to reload so we'd have to keep importing new characters in the multiplayer arbitration menu.

  9. Thought it was just usual Internet asshats/STEMLords that used "learn to code", as weak an insult as it is. Not quite sure it's the same thing, but usual suspects need to feel nailed to a cross, I guess Ah, Biden. The protests at the embassy and the new fuss with Iran has convenient timing.

  10. Usually TB titles don't have (a lot of) trash mob fights. Those are a thing in Action RPGs (where it's nearly all trash mobs) and to a lesser extent in RTwP RPGs. Because TB fights take way longer designers try to avoid meaningless encounters as fillers. In RTwP games players tend to do the "select all, attack opponent x" routine once fights become too easy. I don't see that as an advantage per se - but it takes less real time (not game time) since you don't have to issue a lot of commands via pausing. The outcome of the fight will be suboptimal - but who cares if you regenerate health and resources after every combat anyway (this was different in PoE where even the most laughable encounter could take away some precious health or spell uses). That's also why TB mode in Deadfire is too lengthy for some folks - because the encounter compositions didn't change to accommodate for the longer fights. Luckily Deadfire doesn't have a ton of trash mob fights (for a native RTwP game) so it still works ok. I'd generally say that people who like action games tend to prefer RTwP while players who prefer tactical/strategy games prefer TB. Funny then that RTwP plays less good on a console though. I mean if it's a party based RPG where you control all characters (unlike Outer Worlds and such). Also RTwP is pretty impossible to do as multiplayer version. Another reason why it's not the preferred option of most devs I'd wager.

  13. But yeah, it's a bit fun to hear people speak of it happening "now" ^^ Edit; I prefer taking a lawnchair and a cushion and go out on the fields here to get a good 360 view. It's really relaxing.

  14. Don't. Seriously don't even give it a thought. I used to worry about the outcomes of elections. I used to buy into the BS line that gets dusted off and trotted out every four years: "THIS is the most important election ever!". It's not. Even if the Democrats win it all in 2020 by 2022 the Congress will be split again and the status quo maintained. If Trump wins, if (insert Democrat name here) wins, it just does not matter.

  18. It's okay, New York has 2 teams that play in the same stadium... which isn't even in the state of New York. Wisconsin can have a second team. Also, Sheboygan is just a really fun name to say out loud.

  22. It's Volourn. Just smile and wave. Kept watching Lost in Space season 1. It's so badly written, it makes me angry at times. I just want to slap some sense into some of these people. Especially the kids.

  24. I also prefer the keyboard and mouse, though I do play sports games with a controller, and the freedom to easily tinker with the game files and even the PC. I'm not against consoles (exclusive loving console fans are another story) but I've never been one to veg out on the couch, and my computer chair is quite comfy, so that aspect of consoles has never appealed to me. Pretty much everything I want to play comes out on PC and I'm not going to buy a console for one or two games as even my favorite sports games are on PC. We had to edit configuration files to get our games to run and we liked it! But seriously, that early tinkering is what led me to my lifelong love of tech and a decent career.

  25. I wonder how long it'll take me to stop doing a double take when I see headlines containing "Spurs boss Jose Mourinho". It's something straight out of Football Manager. I did feel it was time though. As a wise man once said, "sometimes people outgrow one another, it's very sad but you can't let it drag you down." First away win in eleven months, strewth.
