Now, if I came up with that during Uni, I might have been less torn between gaming and practicing violin https://www.thestrad.com/news/a-video-gamer-is-beating-elden-ring-with-a-violin/17486.article3 points

No, no, they've got a point: when it comes to Ubisoft, I'm more than happy to not own their games.2 points

I am still somewhat disappointed, that main focus seems to be on combat. It seems like it is going to be a much more action centric experience. Combat doesn't look bad, but I am also doubtful how much depth it will have. RPG nature of the game still seems to be mostly sidelined, at least as far as talking point go. One branching quest is shown, but it didn't fire up my imagination. The logo looks cool, though.1 point

Well, you got that wrong, Jordan Peterson is the guy who DESTROYS leftists by telling them crustaceans have a strict hierarchy and then proceeding to unironically talk about post-modern neo-marxism, which most likely sounds highly intellectual to his fanbase, but is completely meaningless. Postmodernism's defining feature is the rejection of metanarratives like Marxism as fundamentally flawed. His fabled debating skills, by far and large, boil down to raising strawmen arguments combined with a factually true statement in an attempt to goad the other party into looking stupid or giving him an opening where he can claim that they are misrepresenting what he said without ever really specifying what it is exactly he said. Which is pretty much what he did in his BBC interview, for instance, where he's argued that "the" Left has this idea that all our societal hierarchies are the result of Western patriarchy, but lobsters also have hierarchies and they predate Western civilization. The strawman here being that "the left" of course never argued against all hierarchies arising from the oppressive patriachy. It is, however, fairly problematic to respond to, you can either argue against a fundamentally correct statement ("lobsters have hierarchies"), which will make you look silly, or you can follow his implication and debate that, to which he can just reply that this is a misinterpretation of what he said. Which is pretty much what happened, as the interviewer's response was asking him whether he believes we should organize our society along the lines of lobsters. No, of course not. Silly interviewer. The reactionary core of his implication still stands, of course, and his fanbase gobbles it up like candy. Like him or not, he certainly knows what he is doing, which is pandering to his audience, not engaging in meaningful, intellectual debates.1 point

Hubby's gone for 3-4 days and thus I will be extra extra bored. Hardeharhar. Think I'm going to take advantage of is absence to deep clean and declutter and debox all the boxes that are still boxed. Always feel rude doing it when he works from home now, the noise and other factors. Plus I find it more motivating to do such chores with loud music playing which isn't possible when he's here. Pfft. I have tossed tons of things the past few years, not minimalism but I'd like to be closer to that - at this point any just in case thingamajig I can buy a new one if I need one years later - but there's still always way too many things I keep because they're not easily replaceable (or not at all). And memories ofc. I have to get over that and just toss 'em anyway.1 point

Mostly focused on combat, which is the thing I'm least interested in. It looks fine. I'm sure I'll enjoy it, but nothing has made me more excited than I initially was. In conclusion I want poe3, but avowed still interests me.1 point

Wrong thread? Either way, I liked Tyranny a lot, significantly more than either Pillars game. I'd love to see a sequel some day. @WormerineToo bad they never made a Rock Band: Ysaÿe.1 point

In case you missed it there will be XBOX's Developer Direct in couple of hours: https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2024/01/09/xbox-developer-direct-2024/ We should finally get some info on the Indiana Jones game, and a deeper look into Avowed (finally! Please, don't disappoint...). On a less confirmed note: Elden Ring DLC news might be coming, or even shadowdropping. A while ago there was Elden Ring controller leak that suggested possible February 2024 Shadow of Erdtree release. Recent Elden Ring steam update made such possibility a little bit more likely: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/elden-ring-dlc-update-on-steams-backend-hints-that-shadow-of-the-erdtrees-release-could-be-very-very-close There is also some rumbling about Silksong and February - though from what I gathered, it is just wishful thinking at this point.1 point

It does indeed appear that you are not sure what I'm talking about. I made a comment on how eloquently Richard Dawkins points out that Peterson's views on religion are nonsense, and how bad a writer Peterson is. To which you then replied that his success as a writer disputes criticism like that. To which I then said that an argument like that makes no sense, for reasons described above. To which you then replied with a comment that ignores what I said and talks about something else entirely. Of course I know that he has written books that have inspired people. But that has very, very little to do with whether his views on religion are nonsense of whether he is a remarkably poor writer. Whether his books have "helped people grapple with internal problems around confidence and purpose", as you said, has never been the topic here. If you seriously intend to equate success with quality, you're going to run into serious trouble because it's such a mad argument.1 point

Right. Escape Cape uses the Escape effect of the Rogue's ability but it comes from an item and thus stacks with everything except(!) the original Escape. So Escape + Escape Cape is NOT +100 deflection. Same with the Mask's +50 deflection: it's Arcane Veil basically, but from an item. It stacks with everything exept the original Arcane Veil. So Arcane Veil + Mask of the Weyc is NOT +100 deflection. BUT the Mask + the Cape IS +100 deflection which stacks with everything else (except Escape and Arcane Veil). Add Morrored Images (+25) and Llengrath's Safeguard (+20) and just like that you'll have +145 deflection which turns anybody into a great "deflector". I mean if you can keep it up. Besides Wall of Draining one could also use the Priest's Salvation of Time + Brilliant. Obviously that's all late game stuff that is cool and all but really is just having fun in the late stages of the game. In order for a Riposte+Offensive Parry build to be fun to play (especially on PotD!) you need to make sure your char has very good deflection right out of the box. Then add all sorts of abilities, (party) buffs and items with deflection bonuses asap. I tried a Soulblade/Shattered Pillar once because Offensive Parry (and maybe also Riposte, don't remember) generate wounds, work with Swift Flurry(HBD) and iirc Offensive Parry also generates focus (not 100% sure anymore). And of course WotEP's cone is nice and funky with Soul Annihilation (see clip below) It was fun but this is a pretty "narrow" build which is cool at one/two things and that's it. Stuff like Rogue/Wizard is more versatile (at least when one combines Riposte and Offensive Parry which is fun but very limiting setup) so it's more useful for me in a party setup. Riposte alone is so "random" to me that I don't find it very interesting to plan around it. Edit: I just remembered that the Outward Spikes ripost-ish enchantment of Tuotilo's Palm as well as the Flame Shield form Magran's Blessing to also trigger Swift Flurry/HbD attacks (with the main hand weapon - see Mohora Tanga). So maybe a Riposte Trickster/Monk would want to use Tuotilo's Palm. Unfortunatly with Outward Spikes you cannot have "Balanced Shield" anymore which I generally find to be more useful. The clip that shows the weird workings of WotEP's cone + Soul Annihilation: --- I also had fun with Offensive Parry as a Bloodmage/Steel Garrote where Offensive Parry dazes automatically, unlocking the Steel Garrote health drain which counters the Bloodmage's self damage from Blood Sacrifice. I was casting all the time though and just used the Offensive Parry as bonus "fuel" for Blood Sacrifice and tankyness and not as the main source of damage or so. I think that was the most overall useful character with Offensive Parry which resembles somthing like a "Riposte build". No real (Rogue) Riposte there though. I thought I made a clip of that but cannot find it atm. Edit: only found a screenshot of the character with it's general item setup and what's that doing for the deflection: Edit: then found a clip for Trickster/Unbroken (I think), but's it's a webm format and this forum doesn't support that it seems. Edit: aaand found an animated gif of a Trickster/Steel Garrote:1 point

I'm running the Tamriel Rebuilt mod. As you can see in the map in the upper right of the picture above, I am not in Vvardenfell nor Solstheim, I'm on the mainland of Tamriel, specifically the city of Andothren. What this mod aims to do is restore the original vision of TES III: Morrowind, which was the entirety of Morrowind, not just Vvardenfell (and later Solstheim in the Bloodmoon expansion). The game wound up getting scaled down, as games often are, and this mod tries to scale it back up. The project has been in development for nearly 20 years and is still in development today. They currently have roughly half of mainland Morrowind implemented, which is still A LOT and quite impressive for people working in their spare time. There are also other mods in development that implement other provinces into TES III: Morrowind, but I'm not running any of those. In theory, the entirety of Tamriel will one day be playable in this game... One day in 2092. If you are wondering how you reach the mainland, they've added a few Travel NPCs to existing locations. A couple to docks, letting you travel by boat, and a couple to Mage Guilds who will teleport you. Below is the dock just north of Vivec. In the vanilla game there would only be one NPC there: I'm not sure if this mod has restored House Indoril and/or House Dres. In the vanilla game a major plot point is the sixth house, yet there are only three great houses in the game, which may have you wondering about houses four and five. As you may have guessed already, those are Indoril and Dres, and they were originally going to be joinable, have quests, and allow you to rise through the ranks, just like Hlaalu, Redoran, and Telvanni. Like mainland Morrowind, they were a victim of the scaling down. I doubt they're implemented, I would think that would be prominently advertised in the mod description, but who knows? There are supposed to be hundreds of new quests and items, though. I got a quest already when I got robbed of 500 gold when sleeping at an inn in Andothren. After a bit of digging, I found out that it was a well known petty thief and I'm going to track her down, but not until after I fully explore the city (she's known to hide out in nearby Dwemer ruins). Anyway, I'm impressed so far and I'll report back as to the quality of the writing, art, quests, etc. God bless these people still working on mods for a 22 year old game.1 point

Slay the Princess. Odd little visual novel. Didn't somebody here mention it within the past couple of weeks or so? I could swear somebody here mentioned it and it's why I checked it out in the first place, but now I can find no evidence of it on the entire forums except for a post by Tale back in the middle of 2023 talking about it being in development. Weird...but also fitting, given that the game features memory loss as a reoccurring event.1 point

Similar situation for me... My PM went on vacation and left me to take over, trial by fire I guess. It's just that this is one of those weeks/sprints where need 10 different things and we need them done now. If nothing else it showed me how much actual work and stress the PM has... This leaves me in the position to think over if the pay raise (my assumption here there will be one) and a change of scenery is worth it. Then again this company is on the extreme end of the scale as far as work intensity is concerned. There is also the fact that I am new at this and that with more experience things will get easier. I'll see, but at the end of the day this opportunity is not likely to come along again.1 point

yeah, thinking about the game mechanics really benefits from taking a "lawyer"ly approach to reading the descriptions and seeing where loopholes arise. you can find some surprising interactions that way, instead of assuming that something won't work with something else because of an assumption of how that something is "intended" to be done. i would say that a decent chunk of the fun of theorycrafting and toying with the mechanics of deadfire is the joy of discovering new interactions, it's like a treasure hunt. anyway for the reasons you mention, both fighter and monk (especially helwalker) are very interesting classes to multiclass with a caster. they have tons of passives and buffs that are ok for a martial but really open things up for a caster.1 point

I really like these ideas! I would love an ORC weapon that shoots electricity- but maybe that'd be too similar to the Sour Staff... OH- actually, just thought of this while typing- The ORC weapon does extra damage to ORC creatures- could help with the final boss fight too I don't have anything else to add honestly- and I love all the ideas you've presented- very well rounded!1 point

They are populists ****-for-brains, who do everything for money. To appease their voters, they stopped donating weapons to Ukraine, but they have no problem to sell weapons to Ukraine Especially, when the Minister of Defense is a corrupt ****, who owns few weapon re-exporting companies here, who was selling weapons few years ago to ISIS through Saudi Arabia middle-men1 point

For OP, just some reminder text that this stacking with mirrored images only works with the escape cape. Because it’s tagged as an item ability it stacks with active abilities. You wouldn’t be able to stack with the rogues normal escape ability.1 point

Something I really appreciate about Morrowind is that I'm hardly ever changing my gear. It's standard practice in modern game design to constantly bombard the player with incrementally better gear. I guess the thought process is that if the player doesn't get a new better sword every 5 minutes they won't be "engaged"? Do developers think that every gamer has ADHD or something? I've been rolling with the same suit of bonemold armor I got in Balmora at level 2 and I'm level 8 now. I only just recently swapped out the steel mace I got in Seyda Neen at the very start of the game for a mildly enchanted mace. Honestly, it's refreshing. Anyway, I quickly rose through the ranks of House Redoran to house cousin and I got one of the councilors to sponsor me, I just need to wait a bit before he gives me further duties. I should probably check back in with the Blades at some point, but I'm all the way up in Gnisis, so it will have to wait until I get my ass back to Balmora. I do have matters to attend to in Vivec, so I'll hit Balmora on the way when I make that trip. I mean, I could take a silt strider to get there instantly, but I still have some parts of west gash and bitter coast to explore, so I'd rather hoof it. Side-note: This is the only game I can think of where the best money making mechanic is sleeping. I'm sure it wasn't intended to work like that, but it does nonetheless. Every 3 to 5 times I go to sleep I get rudely interrupted by an inept assassin, for reasons not yet clear to my character (of course, I know why). I easily dispatch said assassin, strip 'em naked (#metoo), then sell off the rather valuable dart they always have on 'em, and the rest of their gear fetches a decent price too. Thanks, inept assassins, for keeping my coin pouch nice and heavy. I appreciate it.1 point

I'm sure it was, it's just the moment they began announcing it, my eyes glazed over, I pictured another AssCreed except with time dagger in my head, and I went to take a piss, figuring that was as good a time as ever, so I never actually saw most of the reveal.1 point

If I lived in Vvardenfell I would be really tempted to get a pet scrib, those little buggers are the cutest. Unfortunately, eventually that scrib would presumably turn into a decidedly less cute kwama. Now, there's maybe some kind of spell I could cast to keep it in its larval scrib state and stop it from becoming a kwama, but whatever the Tamriel third era equivalent of PETA is might come after me, also I would feel bad because that's ****ed up. Now, if I could speak with the scrib and the scrib, let's call her Peggy the Scrib; if I could speak with Peggy and she told me "I like being a scrib and adorably thumping the ground with my butt. It would be great if you had a spell or potion that could keep me in this state and stop me from becoming a kwama." In that case I would be perfectly fine with using such a spell or potion and Tamriel PETA could **** right off, but I'm not sure if that's possible.1 point

Meh, unless OW2 will be a space sim (which is not impossible, but I greatly doubt it) all of it would be more or less waste of time. And if I want beautiful looking "immersive" space sim with nothing fun to do, I will reinstal and play Elite. There is still so much to expand upon within OW2 gameplay loop to bring it at least close to something like New Vegas, that spending money and time on stuff like that would be wasteful.1 point
