A nightly visitor on the mosquito net... at first I thought it was one of those walking stick insects because it's huge (larger than my hand), but closer inspection revealed it to be a praying mantis. Good thing I'm not a potential snack When not admiring the late evening life on my upper floor balcony, I'm busy working on my Alpha Legion for games of Horus Heresy. It took a few failed attempts at getting the colour right. At first they were too green, then too dark, now I get the turquoise I wanted. Using the airbrush to give them first a few different shades of metallic and then a mix of clear blue (and just a little bit!) green.... After those "base" colours, they get a good, hefty layer of gloss varnish and then it's time for next step. A bit of black oil paint dissolved in a spirit solution. The capillary effect means the black paint (which dries a lot slower than the spirit) gets deposited in all the crevasses and armour edges for some extra definition and "depth". When dry (I wait 24 hours for the oil paint to be properly dry), it's time for the next step, which is the transfers/decals. Not shown here, but once they are dry, it's time for some satin varnish and then paint in all the details. Straps, backpacks, guns, eye lenses etc. The guys behind the legionnaires is my other work in progress, painting my Death Korps Kill Team (still need to paint helmets, boots, shoulder pads and guns as well as the bases for those)7 points

Still haven't popped positive for Covid, so that's to the good. Was able to take advantage of the weekend's good weather to get a good gunmetal base layer down on the armour, and then gloss clear coat it. Of course, then Monday unleashed torrential downpours. Partially cleared up today, but it's still dodgy looking for the rest of the week. My optimism is not being hugely positive that I'll be able to get the colour scheme and assorted knick-knacks in place before Star Wars Celebration.3 points

Apparently Ukraine has managed to destroy cruise missiles in Crimea, with drones. Impressive if true. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/mar/21/russian-cruise-missiles-destroyed-in-crimea-blast-ukraine-says3 points

Instead of using Character Creation and manually build your test char you can use setClassLevel and addAbility and give your test char all classes and abilities you want to test faster (or as an alternative for more detail/control). Due to the fact that you don't have to type the commands after the first time because you can use cursor-up and down to cycle through your previous commands and use tab to autocomplete your commands. With a bit of practice this saves a lot of time. Sometimes you don't even need to chance class. For example for testing passives you can simply add the passive ability to the character, no matter the class. Most passives don't care what class they are attached to. Like... you can test if a weapon works with Driving Flight even if it's not a Ranger. Some abilities are compositions of multiple "hidden" abilities. You then need to add all of them in order to get proper test results. Examples from the top of my head are Resonant Touch and One Stands Alone. In that case it may be saver to use the Character Creation. Also when you want to test empower mechanics the character creation is better because abilities added with addAbility can't use empower for whatever weird reason. In general I'd say if you want to test a whole character concept then the character creation is better, but if you just want to test singular aspects or only a certain idea about a character then setClassLevel and addAbility are better (faster). You can also remove abilities with removeAbility if they would skew your results (e.g. Heartbeat Drumming or Turning Wheel or the Helwalker passive often get in the way, or Carnage...). Subclass passives are also added with addAbility. They are usually named like the subclass itself (although several subclasses have additional abilities on top of the subclass-named one - example Streetfighter has three additional passives on top of his "Streetfighter" passive which does not do much). Your character doesn't need to have the right subclass in order to test subclass passives. However, for the proper ability tree display you can use setSubclass and see the correct tree. Always use tab to check out if a command and ability etc. actually exists. Saves you from guessing names. Sometimes it can make sense to raise or lower attributes with setAttribute. For example when testing out FF you can raise and lower INT and MIG and DEX and play around until you find the sweet spot. I think for getting into it the character creation screen is a great starting point.3 points

If anyone ever happens to go to Melbourne some day and are curious about Danish food. I can recommend the Denmark House. An old establishment and no, nobody in there speak Danish, I tried But the smørrebrød is just as good, if not better than anything you get back in Denmark and the Aalborg Akvavit (schnaps) is imported. The dark rhye bread is fresh made in house, not the concrete bricks pretending to be bread you get in supermarkets. For me a must go to place next time I get to Melboure Yes, I got two variants of herring, because I'm a sucker for pickled herrings Edit: Found a Danish letter ø, that I could cut and paste3 points

I looked it up, so the others in the thread won't have to. Ah, how I suffer for others, what a selfless act. Tomo who apparently passes as a boy increases her bust size to DD in swimwear. Classic. I guess she gets her bikini top from the same manufacturer that made Haruka's dress in Sailor Moon Eternal.2 points

Lost in Random. So far the most challenging part was getting the game to run. It cannot be family-shared on Steam, it uses an online-only double DRM, and has no graphical or control options. Unless it is a masterwork in terms of storytelling and gameplay, which I strongly doubt, these flaws are critical. 1 hour in, and it has been a linear action-adventure, granted, fully voiced and well animated. In terms of story, it is a fairytale about a girl who went looking for her kidnapped sister. Immortal: Unchained. Still in the jungle area, Veridian. Encountered an optional boss, whose arena was littered with suicide bombers who were digging themselves out of the floor (i.e. I couldn't shoot them first, but could bait them one by one, or three by three), and who could (and did) one-hit-kill me. Fortunately, I was able to loot the containers in the corners of the arena without fighting, but with a lot of running and dodging. The floor being slightly underwater (ankle-deep) did not affect the movement speed anyhow. Also, I met a single non-hostile (yet) NPC in the area. During the third meeting he was sitting in a hole, and talking to him after jumping down triggered an ambush. The NPC was just standing and doing nothing (the zombies did not attack him either), but told me afterwards that we were victorious. Probably, playing it after Lost in Random makes Immortal: Unchained significantly more enjoyable, despite the occasional unpredictable ambushes. It is also much more quiet - no overly-talkative narrator.2 points

problem with abrams is that stupid turbine. Not many armors use tham as they are notoriously hard to maintain - thats the reason for complexity. Otherwise even 30 years old tanks usually undergo some sort of upgrades after those years1 point

Whenever a video is listed in a post, I only get the black image and message that I need to accept social media cookies. I've had them accepted in the past, but for some reason no longer. However the manage cookies link does nothing when clicked. This is both the one in the post itself and the one in the site footer. I've tried with both Chrome and Firefox, with same result.1 point

My answer will probably sound pedantic, but yes, of course I accept that, because clearly it is possible. However, for me to consider that something like that has actually happened, I would have to see some pretty convincing evidence for it. I am not willing to entertain the idea simply on the basis that it is possible, which it undeniably is.1 point

I suspect you are being willfully obtuse here. Examples... in the US until recently, "People" were white, male land owners (We, the people, etc. etc. but only aforementioned group had any rights). In SA for a long while, "people" where white people, in Japan, Gaijin are not recognized as people by especially the older generation and in Myanmar the Rohingya are not considered people by the government. I.e. different places, different definitions of what is people and what is subhuman waste of genes. Laws and rules that protects people only protects those you consider people.1 point

I'm not sure why it's not listed but you can also do Hard Feelings for House Doemenel without committing to them. In a way it's more of an intro quest than the burglary one is, since it lets you trade with Bricanta, much like the Dozens/CK intro quests unlock a vendor. There are two more quests that involve House Doemenel (At All Costs, Cat and Mouse), but no matter how helpful or hostile you are (including killing their goons), you won't commit to joining them or make them so angry they won't want to deal with you. I have a very particular ritual for antagonizing House Doemenel every playthrough...1 point

User runs massive process of 4000 tasks, DB struggles through it. User then says one task failed, but I see it succeeded and tell him as such. User then says "I have re-run all the tasks". Good thing it was the end of my shift.1 point

After quite a long stretch last year in tutorial hell doing Udemy courses on React and Node I've started building my own projects, trying to produce things that I can use in a portfolio. I'm working in a hotel/holiday park at the moment as a waiter and the restaurant only have paper menus, so I pitched the idea of doing a digital menu instead. I built a prototype with React as a front-end only web app, it means only I can make changes to it but for the hotel it’s more affordable because they wouldn’t have to pay for a backend server. The way I’ve coded it basically means that the site takes arrays for each menu category (starters, burgers, steaks ect) and generates the web page based off of those, this means it’s really quick and easy to update the menu. If they want, I can turn it into a full stack application and make an interface where they can change the menu themselves. The FOH manager and head chef seemed to like it, we’re too busy in the restaurant to go ahead with it right now but hopefully it'll get green lighted later. https://172v-restaurant-proto.netlify.app/ I also started working on a stupid little map app of the area where I work to practice using a library called Leaflet. Leaflet basically allows you to setup your own google maps in your web sites and include custom markers and a few other features like that. It looked a bit jankey but it was functional and was the first project where I had enough state variables to make good use of the useReducer hook. I definitely wouldn’t add this one to my portfolio but I did learn lessons from it. Tonight, I’m going back over the Node.js project I did as part of a Udemy course and I’m trying to make sure I understand and memorize the different refactoring tricks Jonas used in his course as it makes the code a lot easier to read and write. Then I’ll need to build something of my own again. Right now I’m pretty comfortable with React but with Node I can only do basic CRUD operations so the goal is to just focus on Node for a month or two until I get to a decent level with it. Part of me worries that this is a mistake and I should just focus on front-end for now until I can get a job but since due to real-life circumstances I wouldn’t be in a position to accept a job until autumn anyway, my hope is that knowing full stack will mean more job opportunities in the long run and also just make me a more well-rounded programmer.1 point

With winter officially over it is a good moment to summaries the energy war. So in short term it clearly failed. The European gas storage levels are still over 60% and are unlikely to drop much by now. And that's partially because the winter was second warmest on record. Consequently the demand dropped and gas prices are back to 2021 levels. Of course it still has a nasty effects of driving up prices and inflation but it is no longer enough to shake-up the politics in Europe. I'd say that barring a record-cold winter it is now unlikely EU will change its policy over Russian energy.1 point

The attack on Avdiivka started in march 2022. So almost half year sooner than attack on Bakhmut. It is much smaller stronghold than Bakhmut, and IIRC smaller than Soledar. It was always within high possibility, that it can fall sooner, than Bakhmut. @xzar_monty and a little bit more "speculations" about the visit of Mariupol. The "citizens" are again the same people, which are on all of his pictures1 point

heard that D4 open beta fried several 3080 Tis, so beware. as for the Stalker 2 leak, I found out about it on the social network (VK) it happened on, there's a huge thread with screenshots and concept art. not sure what the leakers actually wanted to accomplish with the leak itself, as far as I can tell it's free publicity for the company, as the concept art looks amazing, the map is huge, and it actually makes the game look better than it probably is, so much so that I wouldn't be surprised if the leak was orchestrated by GSC themselves for brownie points1 point

Hi, if can be of any help, I'm doing a run with a SOLO Paladin and I complete WM1 at level 10. So I think, if you know internal mechanics of the game and you compose the right party, level 7 full party can do the WM1 (not Cragholdt, obviously, but the Durgan Battery quests). You can take also all the items of Act 2, aside Aila Braccia also Tidefall can help, but maybe stunning or proning item are best, i.e. Cladaliath in Act 2 (if you side with The Dozen) or unblocking Act 3 and buying We Toki. Another trick for "first" encounter of WM1: you can backtrack after every "single" kill and rest (in Caed Nua or other place) and return back iun Stalwart (not very plausibile and realistic, but the game allows it). After that, WM1 history can be done not so hard, using accurate tattics especially with spirits and vessels inside the Battery and the Lagufaeth, maybe avoiding some non mandatory encounters. Avoid side quests and other optional encontuers, unless you need or wish some special and unique item. Have fun1 point

I used to do that a lot, and it has some value in that you learn how builds work as they level in different encounters... Ultimately though I think the best way to test builds is make a save at any point after you get your ship, and use console command OpenCharacterCreation Follow with addexperience 190000 to get l20, can do lots of stuff from there. The "find" command is useful, it shows you console commands and their parameters. "Findgamedata" is also very useful, it finds names corresponding to items (giveitem) or status effects (applystatuseffect) or abilities (addability) etc.1 point

The third season of The Mandalorian is shaping up to be the worst one yet. Three episodes so far, two stinkers, and one that was "fine", except for the sheer stupidity of everyone involved. They really should have ended it with season two.1 point

Have I mentioned how much Makoto kills in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon? I did? Oh... well, then I'll just repeat myself. Makoto is awesome, and Kunzite is just glorious. I already said that too? Oh... The series is a damned sight better than the manga and Crystal/Eternal, although that is not a very high bar to clear.0 points
