  1. GOG and Epic can both be set to quit the application instead of minimising to tray in the settings. Not sure about Origin since I don't remember the last time I used it. And this isn't about auto start-up, as I don't do that. I'm perfectly fine with launching manually and typing my password every time and don't want that workflow to change.

  2. the obvious reason americans don't change to dd/mm/yyyy or something else is money. am recalling our brief time as a prosecutor. criminal database programs were all monochrome and did not conform to any kinda modern sensibility or convenience. were more than a little frustrating at times to need navigate computer interfaces developed in the early 80s. the problem were that any attempt to update the system were gonna be herculean as these inelegant and inefficient resources had been expanded multiple times with solutions which only made sense in these antiquated programs making it even more difficult to import/export data from other systems... and each year that elapsed only made the task more difficult as the old systems became more unwieldy. situation were made worse 'cause a fed system had to be compatible with all the local law enforcement and local likely didn't have money to do all but the most limited upgrades. counter-intuitive, as the systems became more unreasonable and difficult to maintain, the motivation to change decreased as costs for change increased-- were always cheaper to maintain an old and inefficient system as 'posed to starting new. is same reason in the US we is stuck with imperial system o' units for measures. sure, metric makes so much more sense and every public school kind in the US since the 70s has been learning metric... and any stem is obvious gonna be all metric, but the cost to change keeps getting bigger every year so while is less reasonable to keep imperial, the motivation to change actual decreases 'cause o' costs. even US drug dealers learned metric 'cause if you is running a biz based on weights and measures, metric is far more practical. nevertheless, is auto parts industry and tools to fix autos and and construction capital all based on imperial, so... is another issue where US fed system is bad for implementing nationwide change. is a whole lotta things the fed cannot do or is impractical to manage. HA! Good Fun!

  5. I've been doing quite well on my diet; in celebration I'm doing a cheat day tomorrow and I'm going to make a Margherita pizza. Last time I made this, probably about 4 months ago, it was the most delicious pizza I've had since leaving Connecticut many years ago. The pizza is pretty much the only thing I miss about Connecticut, the best I've been able to find here in the Charlotte area, Simonetti's in Belmont, would be a middle of the road mom & pop pizza place up in the frozen north. They make a pretty good Margherita, I'd say it's their best pie, but the one I made was better than that, so hopefully history repeats itself tomorrow.

  7. lord only knows what lexx has a right to feel insulted 'bout. 'cause we asked him to identify the posters who confirm his belief that the US education system is utter garbage? ... well, maybe you don't feel comfortable naming names. fair enough. offer us a percentage or a fraction and then compare to european posters. what percentage o' US posters hereabouts exemplify the utter garbage educational system @Hurlshotis doling out daily? 90% less or more? how much less or more? if the percentage or fraction o' doltish (again, your word) US posters frequenting these boards is smallish, then don't you recognize a disconnect with you utter garbage observation? is not as if this board is invite-only mensa or rand. is fans o' a crpg developer, so am thinking we hardly represent some kinda intellectual elite. can't answer the question? why? if few US posters here is doltish, then shouldn't that cause a reevaluation o' your utter garbage observation? if not, then why not? is something special about obsidan which insulates against endemic american doltishness? if the observed doltishness for US folks is similar to that o' euro, asian, south american and australian posters, why wouldn't such make lexx at least question the utter garbage schtick? lord knows it can't be the improbably funny or bad laws passed by the democratic majority o' florida which makes you conclude the US education system is utter garbage, 'cause we already pointed out the German abortion laws which would make even a texan shudder and is not difficult to identify other equal misguided laws. how many decades elapsed 'fore germany final got around to ending the criminalization o' doctors giving patients factual accurate abortion info? germans would "never" do such myopic, stoopid and unjust? again, you brought up the german comparison. and even if you three wise monkey your way outta considering bad german laws, such still don't explain the oasis which is the obsidian boards, eh? if the US education system is such utter garbage, then where is the anticipated higher % o' utter garbage educated US posters? as for the psychological damage and emotional stress... *eye-roll* the florida law is a stoopid and is gonna fail for any number o' reasons but in part 'cause o' what we see with the empty shelves--nobody knows exact what books is resulting in criminal liability. even so, the law were passed legit by the state legislature so is gonna need go through the Courts to be struck down as unconstitutional. is highly improbable anybody loses liberty (ie. receives jail or prison time) as a result o' this law, but rule o' law has us going through the stoopid and tedious process. 'course by the time the woke book law is killed, desantis will have moved on to something just as vile, 'cause fearmongering is almost the entirety o' the current gop playbook. meaningful change is gonna require education but more immediate the economic well-being o' the mullet heads and gator humpers down in florida, texas and all too much o' the south and midwest needs to improve. like or not, those folks in florida vote and for the past couple decades they has become increasing afraid 'bout their economic future. that legitimate economic fears o' the lower and lower middle-class translates into susceptibility to the stoopid being peddled by the current gop. somebody who has a good job and has enough money to pay a mortgage and send their kids to college is more or less likely to buy into nonsense 'bout how immigrants is the root o' all evils? btw, crt, if it were being taught, would help folks understand that systemic racism is only changing when economic realities change. 'ccording to crt, racism is not a white or black or red flaw but is a natural if despicable societal certainty. particular when the dominant cultural and economic group is afraid o' losing its grip on power, racist animus tends to increase and such inequalities is not fixed with grandiose speeches so much as changing economic realities. we do wish crt were being taught everywhere as the gop fears. HA! Good Fun!

  8. September 3, 1967. People didn't use right hand drive vehicles with the left side traffic so we kept having head-on collisions pretty frequently since most of the road network here was narrow two-lane roads. Since right hand traffic had been on the wall for so long, we kept getting left hand drive cars, since they all knew it was coming. There was actually a committee in the late 20's that determined that we should explore switching to right hand traffic, and we actually planned to do it in the mid-late 30's at first, but something got in the way... We held the referendum in 1955, but it was clearly stated to be advisory, which could explain the low voter turn out of about 50% (Typically we'd see 80% and up voter turn out). It's part of the reason why seatbelts were introduced here, Vattenfall were building alot of hydro-power in northern Sweden during the 50's and had tonnes of accidents on the dangerous roads, so they hired a couple of engineers that got help from a doctor to develop "Säkerhetsbälte typ vattenfall" started installing them in all their cars in 1956. They later showed this to Volvo that used it as their belt until they developed the 3-point belt. I love me Volvo Speaking of which, drove home from work yesterday on black ice. I definetly need new winter tyres, I kept gliding left and right while just going along on a straight road.

HA! Good Fun!

  14. Then you haven't understood how to "properly abuse" Bounding Boots. If you cancel the leap action before landing, it won't deplete a per/rest use - but you will still land at the target location (without the noise and the dazing effect) and have 0 recovery. This makes solo runs a lot easier because you can sneak everywhere without any points in stealth and cover a lot of ground in an instant. You can loot all containers even if guards stand next to them because if you jump in from stealth the detection will only start once you truly land. But if you cancel in the air (while the target circle is already showing up at the destination) and immediately clock on the container you can loot without getting detected. There's also enough time to jump back out again (unless you toich the guard, that will break stealth immediately). It also allows to flee from all sorts of problems at any time, even of you are stuck or otherwise can't run away (disengagement, blocked path etc.). Very useful to reach the backline, kill some threats, jump to another high prio target and so on. Unlimited tikes per encounter. Is is less reliable in Ultimate runs because you cannot pause the game which help a lot with the timing (when to cancel). But even with the slowest combat setting one can manage with some practice (without pause). But it's def. a lot more hassle so I guess that's why it isn't that popular. Anyway, for me cheese is to use something to your advantage which the developers clearly didn't foresee and intend. True Love's Kiss, Gouging Strike and Brand Enemy all work as designed and thus cannot be considered cheese. They can be very potent with the right setup and in the right situations, but at least you buy that potency with a lot of idle time. Same with sending summons from a save space. Takes forever but will surely lead to success (unless the enemy needs some special treatment: see Huani OW for example). Stuff like prolonging buffs indefinitely with Strand of Favor etc. - that's extremely cheesy in my book. Stealing free spells with Grimoire Imprint: also extr. cheesy. Using Bounding Boots as I described: cheesy, but not as wild as the stuff above. Endless DoTs: not cheesy. Just imbalanced if solo and combined with invisibility. A very long duration (that would suffice for any encounter with a full party but run out in very long solo fights) instead of and endless one might have been better. Bit it's still is no abuse of an unintended effect. With the same line of argumentation I would also say that Salvation of Time + Brilliant or Blood Mage + Wall of Draining are not really cheese. Just like endless DoTs and endless summons they are just too imbalanced for some situations (mostly solo runs imo).

  15. Same here, afterall it's the contact point with the road, the cheapest way to avoid expensive repairs or a new vehicle is to have the best tyres you can get. I had to order my summer tyres when I bought them, because noone had the same demands as me when I wanted new tyres, everyone here seems to just buy the cheapest and most comfortable they can get and rely on driving aids more than anything else.

  17. so instead insightful brevity as 'posed to a wall o' text, your response is to engage in a trite and vacuous post sans any real support for your position save that which amounts to the equivalent o' an eight-year old blowing a raspberry or uttering "nuh-uh." way to show your education and enlightenment, eh? kinda proving one o' our points with this bit. in the US we got Constitutional limits which is non existent in germany. is euros who depend on the fickle whims o' democracy when it comes to basic freedoms. even so, yeah, am suggesting that once bad laws is passed, as is inevitable in any representative or real democracy, then we need depend on the rule o' law or subsequent votes to fix. would have thought we were explaining basic social contract stuff but maybe the german education system were lacking in this regard? crazy and bad laws that would never happen in germany? we can talk 'bout german abortion laws if you wish. you find the books in florida schools bizarre but until 2022 german doctors were subject to criminal penalties if they offered patients factual information about abortion. what? germany sounds a bit like texas in point o' fact. yeah, germany looks to be headed in a positive direction, but tell us what would never happen while ignoring what has been happening for decades is either based on ignorance or the willful obtuse. so, which is it, ignorance or obtuse? btw, am personal critical o' many aspects o' education in the various United States, which is another point you either missed or is purposeful misreading. the thing is there ain't a single identifiable US school system. ask @Hurlshort if you don't believe us but there is often incredible differences 'tween neighboring school systems w/i individual states much less 'tween and twixt states. is also a whole lotta private education which is often overlooked. even so am agreeing there is problems with US education which is why we suggested you misidentified the dolts. duh. is the ordinary and numerous dolts in florida who voted for desantis as 'posed to desantis being the dolt as your previous post suggested. desantis went to both yale for undergrad and harvard law and while is possible to be dim and graduate from those institutions, am thinking few persons with firing neurons would suggest desantis is slow witted or uneducated. sadly, desantis knows exact what he is doing, which makes worse... or maybe not. regardless, preach to the choir: too many school districts in florida and elsewhere do indeed fail at education. the dolts is most often the ordinary americans which is why we identified education as the long-term solution. again, duh... but also opposite o' your initial post. we will also observe how whatever shortcomings exist in primary and secondary education in the US, presumed european advantages (such as they are) don't translate to the university level the way many expect. when we were undergrad, we had multiple job offers in europe and asia and it weren't as if we were special. graduate better than 3.0 with a stem degree from Cal, stanford or the like and in the late 80s were a license to print money in europe but particular asia. is our understanding not much has changed. is a whole lotta top universities lists out there, and most o' them ain't worth the paper they is written on, but having taught in europe for over a year at the university level, am having a difficult time seeing a marked superiority o' european post secondary students... or faculty. https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/universities-producing-the-most-nobel-prize-winners.html raise your hand if you got a degree from more than one o' those universities? HA! Good Fun!

  18. am unfamiliar with near all tech journal citations or medical, but ap style and harvard bluebook both follow such an ordering, though even those two is different for appropriateness o' month abbreviation as well as setting off the year with commas. it may be difficult to imagine, but you could be deemed to have missed a filing deadline 'cause you failed to put those date commas in the right place. oh, and the california style manual needed be different from harvard until relative recent, so for years it were a pain in the arse having to rewrite functional same documents so as to conform to either state or fed style requirements. such grammar minutiae is all so unnecessarily arcane. HA! Good Fun!

  20. After a looong day's work I stopped at a different and larger ABC Spirits that was only a little out of the way while going home. They did indeed have Lagavulin, but only the 16 year old variety and... I'm not about to spend THAT much on a bottle of booze. For a special occasion, sure, but not on a random Friday. I decided instead to take the smoky and peaty characteristics and push the dials to maximum, so I got a bottle of Laphroaig instead, which conveniently came with 2 lovely dram glasses. The side benefit of being a Laphroaig drinker is that I can feign being sharing and generous without having to actually share any of my precious goodness that I lovingly refer to as "drinking a tire fire". Whenever I offer Laphroaig to people they typically make a disgusted face and decline, all according to plan. The one exception is my dad, who is one of the only other people that likes Laphroaig that I know. I'll happily share with my dad, though.

  26. With all this DS talk, I returned to my Elden Ring playthrough. Used secret medallion and with dream am making my way toward Haligtree. I must say there is something greatly unsatisfying about entering new area and fighting the same enemies I fought at level 20, just buffed up to my level. On a positive side - found an enterance to another underground location. I thought I was done with those two surprise extra underground visits ago. Anyway, reached Mogh, Lord of Blood, a fellow I already sparred with in the sewers of the Leyndell, but this time he had a nasty 2nd phase. Took me quite a few tries to take him down.

  27. Still on Dark Souls 3. Finished all the Lords of Cinder and am moving on to DLC before hitting up Archdragon Peak and the finale. I'm glad I did, because Lothric's Greatsword is absolutely killing Ashes of Ariandel. Chopping down trees with a flaming ultra greatsword is a good time.

  28. The remaster is only on PS5, and I would prefer the original at the very least due to the fact that I've listened to both game's soundtracks and the totally new soundtrack for the remaster is quite awful. The art style is also pretty different with a ton of redesigns both small and large, but I don't feel as strongly about that from what I've seen of it. In short, I just didn't see what the remastered version improved in the face of being able to emulate it at 60 FPS / [whatever resolution]. Multiplayer, I guess.

  29. Even modern games that were made for a controller, like God of War (especially Ragnarok), would be much easier on kb+m. A large part of the difficulty in GoW are fast moving enemies that dash/tp outside your field of view, which would be a non issue with a mouse.
