  1. Unless something goes horribly wrong, I guess we're moving in a couple months. Excitement won't come until six months later when I've adapted to a new place/arrangement and am feeling confident that we're not going to decide to just turn around and move right back here again for some reason. That said ... the yard is much bigger with more suburb neighbor separation - even with the pool and covered patio you could still build a giant garden and workshop structure (doesn't mean we will...) and there's somewhat more living space, plus still easy river park access, so it's cool. I guess.

  4. Samurai Champloo 1-4 This show is good. Really good. Highly recommended. God damn, another one to watch before rewatching JoJo.

  5. if you're talking about the final number you see in your combat log, then no it doesn't matter. it only matters if it's something that gets multiplied by a crit and is just enough to get you to that threshold for overpenetration bonus damage. it does matter, mostly. For DoTs, damage ticks on application, and every 3s, and then there's one last tick of any remaining duration that properly pro-rates the damage done. any non-whole numbers accumulate and every time that's enough to qualify for an additional full point of damage or healing, it'll do so on the next tick. Stacking effects accumulate any rougness across the stack (so 1.5/tick and 1.5/tick will properly result in a 2x stack that does 3/tick). For effects like Meteor Swarm or Relentless Storm or Chill Fog or Garden of Life, there are no partial hazard ticks or partial projectiles, but they also vary a lot in what kinds of effects they spawn so it's a little harder to come up with a general rule (missile salvo spawns tons so it's very sensitive to duration changes, whereas returning storm just spawns once/six seconds which leaves a pretty brutal cutoff).

  6. Better ending than the trilogy. Better romances, too.

  7. LOL no. Two glasses of champagne each in the context of the evening it’s not what I would call drinking. That’s actually the first alcohol I’ve had in… I guess a year. May be a bit longer I don’t remember exactly when I stopped. i’m in pretty good shape. Not just for my age but for any age. I’m 6 foot four and I weigh 215 pounds. Just a bit under 2 m tall and 98 kg give or take. So when I went to the doctor last year I found out I was pre-diabetic. Well I eat very little in the way of carbohydrates. My biggest sugar intake was whiskey. And that made me realize I was drinking quite a bit of it. It’s not healthy. It was making me unhealthy. Plus my self-control was not all that could be desired. So I just cut it out. My A-1 C is back to normal and I’ve lost 20 pounds.

  14. In short, I think yes every little bit helps and overall you don't need to try to shoot for round numbers. But I'm a lot more certain about this for PEN than for ApplyOnTick durations. For example when you start getting into Crit and Overpen mechanics, an initial 0.2 PEN difference can have a disproportionate impact on your end damage. But you're not going to see that make a crazy difference in every fight. I think DoTs are a bit harder to grasp in Deadfire because there's a lot of hidden stuff that goes in. But generally my experience is that they can also get benefits from small increases in the various parameters, including duration, but I'm not sure exactly how it works - I **think** for small duration differences it is visible on your final DoT.

  15. Since we're on the topic of unique weapon effects, it is probably common knowledge but I only realized now that Lover's Quarry from Lover's Embrace (33% chance to apply Frenzy on Crit) applies to all Crits, not only weapon attacks. This is really good because basically any AoE caster can reliably proc it every fight. Every caster can benefit from the various buffs but I'm thinking Druids will benefit disproportionately from Action Speed due to their relative lack of speed buff and long casting times.

  16. There's an anime and an OVA (called Hellsing Ultimate I think). I've only seen the latter, and it's extremely edgy but if you can deal with that kind of stuff it's pretty good. I've only seen one, where some vampire kidnaps a village girl to be his bride. I think that's the earlier one. Mononoke is the only one I can recommend off the top of my head. The others that I've seen are not that great. Yes. In my opinion for Berserk, the 90's anime is good, the movie trilogy is ok, the recent anime is awful, and the manga is some of the best I've read. If you're only going to read or watch it once, manga is the way to go. I loved Courage the Cowardly Dog as a kid. I haven't thought about it too much recently, but there was some stuff in there that was legitimately scary. But yeah, straight horror anime is hard to think of. Is that the one with the big tiddy glasses lady?

  18. It was me, I forgot the 'edited by' doesn't show up on these forums anymore. I think it was a little much, even as a link hidden in spoiler tags. Meanwhile, been thinking about anime. Looking forward to getting to Cobra (October is pretty much horror films for me when I watch anything, so I won't get to it until November - maybe I should have planned better and got a horror anime when I went looking). Its been awhile since I've watched any (an incomplete run through the Fist of the North Star tv show that I really need to finish someday was the last thing I watched....yatatatatatatatatatatatata), but I remember back in the 90s how hard it was waiting for the next release of one of my favorite OAVs ever... 3 years for that final episode! Harsh. Might rewatch this during my Christmas break if I get time.

  19. Sorry for getting you confused with Lexx! ...However, I got through somewhere between 30 and 60 seconds in each of those songs, and I think I liked most of what I've heard in Samurai Champloo more than literally anything you just linked there, so maybe I'm not that sorry after all, . ...The final Bleach song was real close, except for the fact that they used a vocalist that set off my misophonia - her voice is nails on chalkboard, . All the anime music I like is, as always, pre-2000s - I'm just an old soul in regards to all things Japanese, I guess. Heck, I've even come across some albums from some old shows/movies that I've never watched and never will (either because they look really bad or simply don't appeal to me and/or both in some cases) but I like the music, . NAZI CENSORSHIP!

  21. Heh. Either Gorth or Amentep really removed the link to the image. So guys, let that tell you how bad that got then. Just in case you didn't catch it before it went buh byesies. The Wolf Girl (her name is Alph, or ARUFU in Romaji ) I was prepared for, and it was the least offensive means of fanservice in the episode. She shows up in the intro for a brief moment with a crop top and hot pants. *shrug* However... I'd honestly rather continue Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha than go back to Lady Asuka. While that episode really threw me off and it's actually really offensive considering the characters, the anime outside of the fanservice is quite decent. Lady Asuka on the other hand is death by boredom. That's what makes this even more jarring. Love Live! was pretty bad right from the start, and when they made Nozomi assault every character on the show by rubbing their breasts that was "eh, okay, I hate this for making light of sexual assault, but seinen's gonna seinen..." but this is really a new dimension. That's what I get for trying anime based on a short story spin-off of an eroge visual novel. I played exactly one of these, Kana Imouto (Little sister Kana), which has a similar problem as Nanoha. It's really a nice, if sad, story about a girl with chronic renal failure, until it stops being that and goes full otaku nutjob. Yes, indeed. If Love Live! had a scene like that it would still be awkward and weird, but they're at least all old enough to not dip way too far into Pedosus territory. Funny how quickly one can start to aprpeciate the restraint shown by Love Live!. Like, really, I'm not expecting any seinen anime to pass up a chance at a bathhouse/beach scene for some fanservice, but please, for the love of god, leave the elementary school kids out of it. Your evil alter ego might enjoy K-On!'s second season, unless he already tried that and found it wanting without letting us know. Otherwise... it doesn't really look good, no. Samurai Champloo talk: It's a matter of convenience and cost reduction, so for me that was a no-brainer. I all but stopped buying Blu Rays. The best value is Amazon Prime Video, because I have Prime anyway for the free shipping. I don't need the free shipping, but I added my parent's account to the family sharing option and that saves more money than it costs. A lot more. Quality wise it's not nearly as good in terms of image and sound fidelity, but hey, you get what you pay for, in the end. Just as long as I watch a movie per month, it's money well spent, and I do watch a lot more. I get the least value out of Kindle Unlimited, so I'm really toying with the idea of just cancelling that subscription. Let me know what you think. If the first few strips aren't to your liking, at least work your way up to Shinji and the Suicide Girl. That one is REALLY offensive and twisted.

  28. What a terrible day for anime. Probably would've been better off being bored to death with Lady Asuka. Uh...kind of. Let me...oh, yes, I suppose you're right. I was having trouble remembering for a bit, probably because I watched most of the show between 2x and 3x speed and so I couldn't really afford to pay much attention to anything besides the dialogue. Yes, framing does indeed matter, as I have faithfully intoned many times in this very thread...and while the framing of Devilman Crybaby may have mostly justified itself, Nanoha sounds like it couldn't possibly ever do so in a million years, especially given you've already mentioned the transformation scenes as being...sketchy at best. I'm not ever going to enjoy an anime released after 2000, am I? ...Episode 1 of Samurai Champloo (2004): Episode 2:

  29. DKC2 lacked the little/large buddy dynamic that actually had gameplay implications when it came to dealing with enemies. Then DKC3 went about re-implementing it in the worst possible way with characters the average player would feel nothing for. ...but at least it wasn't DK64.

  33. i actually don't think so. the accuracy bonus seems to be ignored on that limitation, and the fight where this happened was the hasongo fight where there's two naga inside a building trying to break in - it's pretty cramped quarters and i actually interrupted them both with a single devotions. needs more testing probably but i haven't had the time yet.

  35. something I just discovered--don't know if this is common knowledge--that may be useful here, is azure blade. you can enchant it to have a 25% chance to interrupt if you have enough allies nearby, in addition to +10 accuracy. what I discovered is that this chance to interrupt affects anything, not just the stiletto attack. I actually ended up interrupting some enemies with the debuff portion of Devotions for the Faithful, which is how i discovered this. So if you have summons or can keep some friends close by, this will help your non-crits interrupt as well.

  37. Hey guys. I’m alone in the house again. I picked G up at the airport Saturday morning and took her straight to the Peabody Hotel in downtown. I had a deluxe room reserved for us with a great view. We spent the whole day in the room just, y’know, enjoying each other’s company. Then in the evening it was dinner at Rizzo’s then champagne at the rooftop bar with live music and the lights of the city below us and the stars above. It was perfect. The next day I brought her back to my place and we spent the day watching the Packers vs Bears and other games. She is a big Packers fan. I don’t think they let you live in Wisconsin if you’re not. That’s something I should probably follow up on. That’s going to be important info soon. We spent four together. I was hoping for longer, but work waits for no one. Plus, she got a little… not sure… hesitant at the end. We got to do some of the fun stuff I had planned but mostly she just wanted to stay at my place. She loved my house and all the stuff. I had hoped she would. She loved the garden and greenhouse and veggies (she is mostly a vegetarian) and the whole thing. But she really liked how much land and the seclusion and privacy of it. My hopes were soaring. I was hoping she would imagine some kind of a future here with me. It was not to be of course. But I knew that. We took a walk down Cold Creek to the river and spent the day talking about us and what our future might be. Her life is not in Tennessee and won’t ever be. She spoke to B on the phone every night we were together. She could never be so far away from her. I told her I knew that, and I’d never ask her to be. I told her I wanted to be part of her life. And if her life is in WI then that is where I’ll go. She was shocked, I think. Then I told her I’d already spoken to a realtor that was handling other stuff for me about selling. I wanted to know how she felt about that. Her reaction was not what I’d expected. I thought that idea would make her happy. It’s not that it didn’t… I couldn’t put my finger on it. We talked some more about it. She has no interest in ever being married again but conceded she might change her mind. I laughed at that comment and told her I had no problem with that. We talked in general about buying land and building houses. How I built my place. She said she would love to have something like that near her hometown. She has always wanted her own horses and a place to board and treat. One thing we haven’t spoken about is money. I got the impression her situation is still not great following what her ex did to her. And B is a full-time student and I’m pretty sure G is helping her. I’ve enjoyed some real financial success following the sale of our business. And I’ve been very careful in managing and investing it. What she is dreaming of is within my means. Especially if I sell my place. I was thinking this but held back from telling her everything. I decided to push that conversation down the road a little way. Something about her hesitation made me cautious. Plus, I’m always wary of the danger of moving too fast. I’m cool with going all in. I’m not sure she is yet. I think it’s best to let her get there on her own. She flew home this morning. She called me when she landed and again when she got home. I’m planning on going up to see her next weekend and spending time up there. Maybe even look at real estate, who knows. But I’m definitely going to slow down a little. I don’t want her feeling pressured.

  38. So... I'm not necessarily trying to resurrect this (retrospectively very funny) thread. But, I wanted to say that I've just spent more time than I would want to admit playing with a SC Blood Mage with infinite casts of Skaen Priest's Shadowing Beyond and infinite Concelhaut's Crushing Doom. Zapping around the battlefield under near-constant invisibility to make every enemy being permacrushed by giant flying hammers is a very satisfying way to end an otherwise annoying workday. Infinite Shadowing Beyond is arguably a contender for strongest single spell that you can get with this trick, maybe before SoT/BDD... because it casts instantly without recovery - with a toon that already has low (or no) Recovery, it is close to permanent invisibility. I also have infinite Brilliant Departure for good measure.

  40. I do not think everyone should get a medal. I think everyone should have a chance to compete. In a gifted program, only the top students are even given the chance. I also don't think these game show style competitions are all that important to the educational process as a whole, but that is an entirely different can of worms.

The world still needs to up their own chip production before they can sit idle by and watch China invade Taiwan... https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-world-relies-on-one-chip-maker-in-taiwan-leaving-everyone-vulnerable-11624075400 Even if Qualcomm "only" produces 12% of the worlds chips by now (down from 37%), its still something that currently sits in 60% of the words cars... Not that I'm a proponent of cars mind you. Best thing ever was the the total lockdown where the streets were empty and the air felt fresher. A memory of a world freed from cars that will stick with me
