Surprised that any personal benefits they can get from the union would not outstrip any loyalty they have for their political party.3 points

I'll never understand why workers in the US don't want.....worker rights. These protests won't amount to anything in the long run unless they actually unionize. There is way too much exploitation of people going around in the video game industry, and elsewhere. https://kotaku.com/inside-blizzard-developers-infamous-bill-cosby-suite-18473787623 points

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2021-04-05/california-prisons-consider-gender-identity-housing-requests "Just over 1% of California’s prison population — or 1,129 inmates — have identified as nonbinary, intersex or transgender" "The new California law follows other changes in the state’s treatment of transgender prisoners. In 2018, a law took effect removing obstacles for prisoners to change their gender and name. And in 2015, California became the first state to create policy for transgender inmates to apply for state-funded gender-affirming surgery. According to the prisons agency, from January 2015 through February 2021, 65 out of 205 requests for surgery were approved and nine were completed." "Inmates can request transfers to their correctional counselor, which are then considered by a committee that includes the warden, custody, medical and mental health staffers, and a PREA compliance manager. Staffers review the inmate’s criminal record, health needs, custody level, sentence and safety concerns." https://www.prisonlegalnews.org/news/2016/sep/2/condoms-now-available-prisoners-three-states/ "Legislation in California, signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown in September 2014, allows prisoners in the state’s 34 adult correctional facilities access to condoms." "In a February 2016 statement to Fox 26 KMPH, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) spokesman Joe Orlando emphasized the anticipated benefits of the law to California communities. “Ninety percent of these guys are going to be sent home,” said Orlando. “So when they get back to the communities and to their families, let’s make it as safe as we possibly can.” San Francisco has been passing out condoms in its jails since 1989, while Los Angeles County’s jail system – which averages more than 18,000 detainees at any one time – has been distributing them for more than a decade, thus giving Brown enough empirical evidence to sign the bill into law. Two previous versions of the legislation were vetoed – first in 2006 by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and again in 2008 by Brown. Both governors cited California Penal Code section 286(e), which outlaws “sodomy with any person of any age while confined in any state prison ... or in any detention facility,” as the reason for vetoing the legislation." "“It’s only logical to put things in place to keep people safe,” said Sha Wallace-Stepter, incarcerated at San Quentin. “But me personally, I’m completely against it, because I don’t encourage homosexuality in prison.”" https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-prisons-condoms-idUSBREA4C0ZB20140513 http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/pilot.pdf "In 2007, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime joined WHO and UNAIDS in recommending a range of risk-reduction measures, including confidential condom access for all male and female prisoners" Seems that daily wire has bit overblown the issue2 points

tbf, compared to poe1, soulbound gear are not necessarily as such tent-pole items here. i remember going out of my way to get all soulbound gear in poe1, here i only bother if it's particularly necessary for a build. edit: it's been a while, but i don't remember many *interesting* unique items in poe1 (many of them were normal magic weapons with a fancy name). there are tons in poe2, which you can enchant with special enchantments. that fills in a lot of the gaps that soulbound items fulfilled in poe1.2 points

yeah, MC can be overwhelming with choices esp if it's your first time. also, there's more room for error. while it shouldn't be too much of a problem on lower difficulties, unlike poe (which tried to make all sorts of gameplay viable), there are definitely more character pitfalls in poe2, if only due to just the insane amount of customization options.2 points

there's a whole heck of a lot of ways that rangers fit in-universe to deadfire, so i wouldn't worry. here are some minimal-spoilery examples of how a ranger can fit into the world, some thematic hyptotheticals, some in-game examples: pirate, pirate sharpshooters. bounty hunters and trackers large military presence in the archipelago (Maia, a story character ranger, is a sharpshooter/scout for the royal deadfire company) a contingent of boreal dwarfs who have settled an island some islands are bigger and have dense foliage and need trackers/rangers one of several ways to refer to the eighth "level" of abilities that (single-class, and only single-class) characters can get (multi-class stop at the seventh). PL is short for "power-level." I've personally taken to start referring to it by other means (I say "tier") because it's a pretty jargon-y acronym that is also confusingly the same as a only-kind-of-related "power level" mechanic that scales your ability power.2 points

our insurance provider called us up to tell us we underpaid for home insurance in june, even though we paid the amount demanded at that time. explanation is the nameless and faceless underwriters decided the fire threat in our area were higher than previous realized, so they retroactive (?) increased our premiums by more than $100... on top o' the june increase which were more than $500 above what we paid last year. didn't help that initially the insurer were trying to make it sound as if we had made a mistake in june and underpaid. *sigh* y'know, we were gonna fight it, but it's too hot and am getting too old. we did explain how this kinda after the fact price hike did not make us want to continue our decades long relationship particular as we shopped around and discovered we could get cheaper with other providers. we were gonna keep 'em for at least our home residence, but our patience has evaporated. we will observe the recent widespread ca wildfires these past few years has caused all homeowner insurance premiums in our geographic area to rise, but our insurer has been worse than most. plus, since am now only having a handful o' properties insured with them, is clear they do not feel the need to cater to us. had gotten kinda accustomed to the first class treatment but am now an ordinary plebeian. HA! Good Fun!2 points

For Kind wayfarer/fury or shifter, I'd recommend the two weapon route, since Kind Wayfarer's FoD give you twice the healing when you dual wield. But if you decide to go with the Voulge, I'd recommend steel garrote/fury, focusing on lightning spells (for the stun), and hence the steel garrote passive healing when you hit them when they're stunned. This would be great on the lower difficulties, but if you play on PotD you'll really want to max PER for the crits (to proc static charge), since neither paladin or druid have good ways to boost accuracy. But what you can do is build up static charge stacks with regular attacks, and then proc it with FoD, for which you'll get bonus accuracy (+10, plus scaling with PLs), and another +10 if you wear the ring of focused flame, which you'll definitely want to do.2 points

I finally got around to watching the remake of Total Recall. The plot was nonsensical. It had none of the kitsch of the Arnold Schwarzenegger version. And it also bore little resemblance to the PKD short story. Although that’s probably for the best. But it wasn’t a terrible thing to watch. Plus it had Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel in it. And they actually had a fight scene together. That was worth the time spent by itself LOL. but I did spot two call backs to the original movie and got a chuckle out of each.2 points

Hey everyone! I am about to start a POTD run and thought it would be fun try out a custom party. And since the party count is 5, which aligns so well with MTG’s color pie, I wanted to try making a party themed after each the WUBRG colors. As it is POTD, I am trying to balance flavor and optimization, but it has been a minute since I last played this game, and I’ve had a few tries starting playthroughs that just didn’t feel too cohesive. So I wanted some guidance on how to create this party. Here are some thoughts as to my team: WHITE - tank. I have been deciding between Herald (Shieldbearer/Troubadour) or Crusader (Shieldbearer/Unbroken) as a better option for tank in this party. it might help to have the extra utility, healing, and support from the Herald, but they definitely are not as sturdy as the Crusader. BLUE - disabler/cc. I have been sticking with Mindstalker (Trickster/Beguiler) as it is what I feel best captures the blue mentality of counterspelling and indirect battlefield manipulation. Not sure if this role is needed but I went with it! BLACK - ranged dps/utility. I went with Spellblade (Bloodmage/Assassin) as an alpha striker to begin combat encounters from stealth and also get wizard spells. However, I’m wondering if this role offers much otherwise or if I should go the necromancer route––maybe Loremaster (Bloodmage/Bellower)? RED - melee dps. I am unsure whether the Brute (Berserker/Devoted) is the most optimal as a damage source, but felt it was most fitting. Also tried the Howler (Berserker/Skald) as a more versatile choice. Not sure what I prefer! GREEN - melee dps/utility. I think here I compromised synergy most for flavor, as I went with Beastmaster (Ancient/Stalker), but I wonder if it offers much for the team at all, or if the Stalker subclass conflicts with Ancient. Wondering if there’s a more synergistic Ranger subclass or different subclass overall. Overall, I am content (excited even?) with the flavor choices, but haven’t been sure how to create synergy or define each character’s roles. It doesn't help that the start of the game doesn't really showcase what each class does in the mid-game. Does anybody have any suggestions on alterations to make this playthrough POTD-ready? Furthermore, generally speaking what attributes should each role focus on? Thanks for reading everyone! Also if there’s any MTG-fans, would love to hear if you have any alternative thoughts in general.1 point

It’s probably not a bad idea to consider this. A trans inmate is going to have a bad time no matter which gender they are housed with. It’s worth considering setting up a facility where they can be housed separately. It does not have to be a separate prison rather just a secure wing of an existing one. I cannot imagine the inmate population of transgender‘s is going to be all that big considering they are such a small percentage of the general population. Of course there’s always the overcrowding problem. The solution to that would be to not send anybody to prison for non-violent offenses. But that’s a different argument.1 point

Hey, we also talk about Madoka, Revolutionary Girl Utena, and JoJo! Violet Evergarden has been surprisingly good, I think you're right where the first special takes place. It's pretty much a single episode and you won't miss anything by skipping it, but it is good.1 point

I'm sure I'll have plenty of time to try all those combinations, but for now... I understand 1/4th of what you say I just want to focus on "role playing" my dwarf and boar, min/maxing and optimizing builds will be next step. As far as I'm having fun and the character reflects what I thought he would be...I'm fine. I think that, while I play easy difficulties, I should have little to no issues in going on with the main quest... Confirm?1 point

Seeing you guys discussing something other than SM got me interested in checking out Violet Evergarden. I'm on episode 4 and I really like it so far, I was really in a mood for a good drama anime.1 point

some gender bias at work in this thread. trans prisoners, significant outnumbered by women prisoners in a ca prison setting, is gonna be the folks we assume is most in danger from being forced into sex acts against their will by fellow inmates. not saying the reverse is impossible, but am thinking one reason why transfer numbers were initially so low is precise 'cause only the most desperate trans prisoners were gonna considers such a dangerous option. however, time passed and the nightmare stories o' forced geldings did not materialize. the trans prisoners is gonna be abused wherever they go, but it turns out the women population is not as bad as is the men. HA! Good Fun!1 point

One could say that being political is a way to fight for your members, especially if you're in an important sector like healthcare or education where so much improvement is needed. I don't see why a "video game developer union" should be political though. On that note...haha: https://kotaku.com/activision-blizzard-hires-union-busting-firm-as-workers-18473866541 point

Prisoners can't consent to sex with prison guards or other members of prison staff or law enforcement, because those have power to punish and otherwise make life harder for prisoners, so it almost impossible to say if prisoner agreed to have sex because they wanted it or because they feared consequences if they don't agree on the sex. But usually sex between two prisoners is by default considered to be consensual, but of course that depends on prison and state/country. Although because rules are usually written from perspective of heterosexuals, so they may not actually even consider that prisoners in all male/female prison would have sex with each other.1 point

Seek not wickedness amongst your fellow forumites, lest it finds purchase in your own posts. But you raised your gaze to the sun, and as its light flooded your being, the light of your own eyes diminished. Now you are all but blind to these depths, only whispers and rumors left. Knowledge of what once was, but shall never be seen again. Only we are left to stare into that darkness, and we do it gladly. As it should be. As it must be.1 point
