  3. Having the same issue with the game crashing at startup on both Steam and Windows versions and save files are definitely not the issue as I have no save files on the Windows version and it still will not launch without crashing but here is the thing this just started happening 2 days ago I was able to play the patch for a couple days and unlock a few achievements but now its just startup and crash every time.

  7. Hi all, hope you enjoy this list. I'm sure others have requested these but either way, I'm sure to have a unique perspective and spin on these creatures. 1. Snail. Upon seeing a snail shell today, myself and the group I play with were surprised when we couldn't bash the shell apart... to which we came up with an idea for a snail to be in the game. The idea is simple, snails come in a few places, roam around and leave their goo trails as a way to hunt them. When attacked, they retreat into their shells. Poison and Gas arrows would be an effective method to kill the creatures. Upon death, they can drop Snail Meat which can be roasted or turned to jerky, Snail Antennae, which can be used in crafting as well as breaking their shells, will drop "Snail Shell Fragment" and using the two crafting materials, the Tier IV heavy armor "Snail Mail Armor" can be crafted. Snail Shells around the map would also be breakable for the fragments. 2. Recluse Spider. These spiders are smaller than Wolf Spiders and Orb Weavers but more deadly. Their brown translucent color allows them to hide bark, or dry grass, so having them spawn around the edges of the Haze or up near the Oak Tree would be a smart idea as well as a few sneaky ones in the Hedge. These spiders should deal more damage than a Wolf Spider but also have slightly less health but more speed to keep them manageable in a fight. Killing a Recluse Spider should grant Tier III medium armor "Spider Garb" for crafting, using Recluse Venom and Recluse Fangs as well as regular Spider Parts as drops. 3. Black Widow Spider. Yes, I do love my spiders. As an Australian, the Black Widow is the closest thing to the national Red Back spider and due to their close similarities, I'd love to see it. About the same size as a Diving Bell, these super deadly spiders would be the scariest second only to the Broodmother. Black Widows would be located along the Shed when added as well as in and around the Hedge and even under the decking near the Paint can and Swamp. Black Widow spiders should one shot anything less than Tier III Heavy Armor and should be treated as a genuine threat unless players are trying to find one when aptly equipped. Killing a Black Widow would drop "Widow Venom" for a Tier III poison Arrow (Tier II will be covered here) and also will drop "Widow Fang" used in a Tier 4 dagger as well as spider parts. 4. Tarantula Hawk. A wasp found in North America, they hang around where large spiders like trap doors, bird eaters and other spiders of the Tarantula family can be found. Best spawns for these flying menaces would be around the Oak Tree, Hedge and near the Swamp. While these flying killers wont outright attack players passing by, like Mosquitos or Bombardier Beetles, they will pose equal threat and not only will they try to health drain players but their immense poison will deal some serious damage. Killing one would give "Hawk Poison Gland" and "Tarantula Hawk Parts". The glad is used in Tier II Poison Arrows while the parts are used in Tier III tools and other furniture like couches or tables. 5. Tarantula. Last spider on the this list... I promise. How could I add a wasp that kills big spiders and not have a worthy opponent? Replacing the Wolf Spider spawn under the Oak Tree, this colossal spider sleeps during the day and roams the night looking for Orb Weavers, Ladybugs and other medium sized bugs to eat. Being harassed by the Hawks is a giveaway to the player that these monster spiders are nearby and while the Tarantula isnt threatened by the player, it will definitely still attack. The Tarantula has the most health of any spider and should be perceived as a mini boss. Another creature in this list will offer parts for "bear traps" that will be usable against these spiders to hold them down. Killing a Tarantula would be no easy feat, such is the height risk offers a high reward; Tarantula Legs, Tarantula Fang, Tarantula Fuzz, Spider Parts and Tarantula Eyes are dropped when the beast is killed allowing for some new crafts; Tarantula Legs can be used for a Tier III sword, while Tarantula Fang will be one of many components in the Tier III Crossbow and Tarantula Fuzz will be used in various building materials as well as a night vision hat with the Eyes. With that wrapping up the first half, I also wanted to add some items to the game that wont rely on my creatures here and would use parts already in game from Crow Feather to Berry Leather; Automatic Crossbow, Catapult, Sticky Grendes, Explosive Arrows, Acid Arrows, Glowing Arrows, Glowsticks, Saw, Sickle, Pike, Dart Tube, Throwing Knife/Daggers and Weavil Chitin Armor. Hope you liked them, back to the final 5 creatures; 6. Field Mice. Mice are a general nuisance but esp so for insects. Ant holes get invaded by these furry pests quite often and even Waso nests get raised to mixed results. A few mice scurrying around wouldn't be directly killable by the players, bit perhaps some mechanic to see Tarantulas or the Crow stun these long enough for use to kill them, or perhaps they could do the job for us by players luring mice to their Doom? Mice would drop "Mouse Tail", "Mouse Tooth" and "Mouse Fur" for a Tier IV Light Armor called "Mouse Cloth Armor". On top of this, Mouse Fur could be used in a Spinning Wheel to make Mouse Cotton. Mouse Tooth would be used to make a "Mouse Trap" which would be a bear trap of sorts. 7. Sparrow. Sparrows are notorious for eating insects from ants to bees to small spiders. Having one or two sitting around, coming down to the ground and pecking around, killing ants ants and other bugs would be handy... but scary as we would be prey to such a bird... Like the Crow, feathers can randomly drop for us to harvest. This time using Tier III Hatchets instead. Also, every now and then a dead Sparrow could be found somewhere which would allow players to harvest feathers right from it while also taking "Sparrow Beak" off of it. Sparrow Feathers would be used to create a wingsuit. Yes, a wingsuit. Perfect for freefalling from the Hedge. The Beak however would be used in the Tier III medium armor, Sparrow Armor and also for Tier IV tools. 8. Dragonfly. Located at the Pond mostly these flying bugs would be both passive and a threat. Killing one would be no harder than a Mosquito but its rapid speed might catch some off guard. Killing drops; Dargonfly Wings, Dragonfly Parts and Dragonfly Head. Head and Parts will be used in a medium Tier III Armor Set called "Dragon Armor" The wings are used to craft windows. 9. Termite. Also called White Ants, these pests are invaders of homes. Natural enemies of Ants, Wasps and Spiders they eat their way into everything and spread rapidly. Location would be inside the Abandoned Anthill at the Oak Tree and this tunnel network would be filled with both Soldier Termites and Termites. They are bright white and dirty looking. Basic termites are 3 times larger than Worker Ants. Finding these outside the anthill will be rare bit inside would be a very scary and overwhelming fight. Killing these bugs drops "Termite Parts, Termite Mandibles and Termite Head". Termite Parts are used in some Tier IV tools while Termite Mandibles is used in a Tier III Spear and a Tier IV "mace". Termite Head and Parts will be used to make a Tier IV Termite Armor set. 10. Praying Mantis. This one was the original of my concepts and ideas and wishes and if any one has to make its it's this one. Many other creatures almost made the list like Assassin Bugs, Wheel Bugs, Caterpillars and Moths, Butterfiles and even ****roaches... but the Praying Mantis will see the end of this list. Praying Mantis are super fast, super strong and would be a glorified boss fight in game. Would be located in the sense grass areas and would move around a little but generally lay and wait near the grass. Their bright green color would make them hard to spot and for the poor souls that do, they should be Ill prepared... Praying Mantis should one shot anything wearing less than Tier III heavy armor and should be considered an absolute threat to even the most well equipped survivors. Drops from this would be; "Mantis Leg", "Mantis Venom", "Mantis Mandibles" and "Mantis Chitin" as well as "Mantis Parts". Mantis Parts would be used in the creation of all "Mantis" gear. Leg, Mandible and Chitin would be used to create the Tier V Medium Armor; "Mantis Plate Armor" and the Mantis Venom would be used to create Tier IV "Mantis Dagger" and "Poison Grenade". All creatures would have "stuffed buildables" using their parts and possibly other things could be added from a person or even developers with more time and love to give. These creatures would make the game feel 10x more scary, fun and and stressful and will surely be a great way to expand the game. Thanks for reading and apologies for any spelling errors etc you may have encountered.

  8. So I can't get any achievements in coop. They are host only. If I join my friend, only he gets the achievements. I've tried the following achievements in his game: Fine Dining, Lounging Around, Beefing Up, Exoskeleton, Face your Fears. None of them worked. Not sure if the problem is on my side, but I even tried multiple accounts, nothing worked for me. Hope this can get fixed!

  9. Howdy I have now tried several times to load my old save after the update (0.10). It starts loading for a few seconds, then crashes the game directly onto the desktop. What is causing the problem?

  10. Love grounded think it's great fun but one HUGE issue is the not being able to play unless the host is available. Be perfect if everyone in a group could access a save to be able to keep playing, to add to a base, to find new things, to collect resources. This is the only real flaw that stops me and my friends playing more than we would like to. Seems silly having 4 different saves all at different points in the game when you all want to work on one base. I know it's still effectively game preview but it would be nice to have a definite answer to if this will be possible in the future if not it makes a great multiplayer game in to a lonely single player.

  11. A nation....in space! Realistically genocide (including population control and cultural erasure) would be a very intensive process in terms of manpower and resources. You'd pretty much need a massive efficiency booster (like robots, automation, etc.) along with the active participation of the people not being targeted (yet) to pull it off. It's realistic in the sense as most sci-fi stuff can be, but similarly unlikely to happen.

  13. They give a lot of XP if you are of low level. At higher levels that's not that much anymore. I mean the amount stays the same, but relative to the amount of XP you need to advance through higher levels it's not that much anymore. If you reach lvl 11 you can still upscale WM. The game will recognize that you're too high of level and will suggest upscaling then.

  15. For the first time I think lvl 10 is good for non-scaled WM. The first fight can be tough because it's very long and stretched over the whole map. After that it gets easier but then the difficulty surges again at some point (in a certain map with certain annoying enemies who use paralyzing blow darts... ;).

  16. I am not sure I would consider it violence, just cussing at each other on loop. Crime is up in Toronto, or so it seems, weird stuff like machete attacks in a fairly busy intersection, etc. Don't think it is that bad but people are already back to wanting carding and all that good show of authority to get their justice boners off.

  17. there is something about the internet which short circuits brains. is multiple examples which would lend credence to such a hypothesis, but in the present context am gonna use the facebook-and-twitter-as-censors complaint. if trump wrote an op-ed and wanted the washington post and nyt to publish it, it would surprise nobody that in the US such publications cannot be compelled to print material they do not wish to be staining their product. am suspecting we not even need explain why this is the case as is just gonna feel offensive and unamerican to force the washington examiner to print a bernie sanders or aoc op ed 'bout the evils of global warming or tucker carlson. am suspecting conservatives and liberals is both gonna be near universal agreeing is wrong to compel publishers to use their resources to promote partisan opinions not shared by the publisher. as such, the newspaper examples we offer is not first amendment relevant 'cause has nothing to do with government efforts to limit speech (duh) and is doubtful anybody would even suggest such a choice by a publisher not to print stories somehow counts as censorship. internet makes different? why? is 'cause facebook typically allows people to say whatever they wish to say? if there is a censorship issue which may be level'd at the tech giants, it is a contracts issue and depends on terms o' service. if facebook said to users that they could say whatever they wished w/o fear o' facebook interference, and then facebook censored anyways, then there would be a contracts issue and perhaps the disgruntled user could get back the money they didn't pay to use facebook? not a particular strong syllogism, eh? *chuckle* internet is indeed a little different from other kinda publishers 'cause unlike newspapers and even tv broadcasters, those who maintain internet fora are not legal liable to the same degree as is ordinary publishers. if a newspaper prints a story which contains facts which is untrue, even if is an op ed, the publisher as well as the author may be held liable if there is a subsequent libel cause o' action. Congress looked at the internet in its infancy and decided that holding internet publishers responsible same as print and tv and radio, or any rando person on the street who might dare to repeat a untrue statement which resulted in economic harm to a plaintiff was gonna undermine the value o' the internet as a means o' communication and education. imagine obsidian entertainment needing potential fact check every post before it is public displayed on these boards. the thing is, the same fox pundits complaining 'bout how facebook failure to be allowing q folks to tell lies using their resources is rising to a level o' untenable censorship is the same folks suggesting that facebook is not deserving their qualified immunity from libel/slander suits 'cause o' republish o' user content. remove the special carveout for internet publishers and do you believe the tech giants will be more or less inclined to prune offensive or questionable user content? ultimate, this is all just part o' the current gop's politics o' grievance. is no genuine policy issues, but we are gonna hear 'bout stolen elections, and critical race theory and big tech censorship while the mitch and others do everything they are able to delay and prevent any biden successes, even if such successes would benefit their own constituents. gonna mostly ignore the groundhog day silliness o' @Guard Dog where he somehow uses this as an example o' they are all bad when this is in fact the unholy necromancy o' a kinda unique pre ww2 phenomenon in US politics. nothing from obama, bush, clinton or reagan were anything close to what we are seeing today, so is hardly useful as an example o' some kinda trend so much as the kinda reactionary bs we never thought were possible w/o a major war or devastating economic upheaval. *shrug* it turns out the great recession and the endemic hopelessness the bootstrap libertarians and the ultra-wealthy deride as a failure o' people to take advantage o' all the opportunities available to make personal success a reality in 21st century america (*eye-roll*), were enough to turn working class southerners, midwest farmers and out-of-work rust belt factory workers into a perpetual mob with no capacity for self reflection and a whole lotta anger just waiting for a demagogue to misdirect it. 'course the political leadership o' the gop has made only token efforts to halt this populist nightmare in large part 'cause citizens united all but guaranteed the career politicians would put pragmatism before morality given how much cash is on the line. HA! Good Fun! ps we will note the hypocrisy o' more than a few obama fanbois when it comes to freedom of press. complain 'bout efforts to collect cellphone data o' nytimes reporters by trump were a horrendous violation too unamerican to endure but obama were doing the exact same with fox reporters. however, in a not so subtle rebuke o' obama, and a clear refutation o' the gd principle, biden made no effort to defend doj spying on press and public committed to make sure such did not continue during his administration.

  19. White March is designed to be tackled from lvl 8 on. It can be started earlier but the initial fight is too difficult for most partys < lvl 8. So it is def. easier than doing upscaled Act 3 and I would totally recommend going there (I mean WM) first. Just don't try to do Crägholt Bluffs "on the fly" while traveling to the WM. CBluffs is very high level content and will mop the floor with lvl-8 parties.

  21. This was my MC for my first playthrough. I played on Veteran Upscaled with a party. I completed every quest that could be done honorably including all DLCs. I didn't side with any faction and I skipped the megabosses. The rest of the party: Caltris: A custom Illusionist/Rogue. Xoti: SC Priest of Gaun Eder: SC Warrior Aloth: SC Wizard Prelude: Before Fhorn, there was Will – an estoc-wielding warrior of great resolve. Will's godlike nature made him bear down in times of danger. Will was rocksteady and people all over the Dyrwood grew to rely on him. As a lord, he was just, honorable, and honest. Will's soul was ripped from his body by Eothas and he was resurrected as Fhorn. Bio: Fhorn is a nature godlike barbarian-berserker fighter. He is primarily a damage dealer but also off-tanks. Remnants of Will remain, but as Eder puts it, "Fhorn's got more bark." Others find Fhorn's constant motion distracting. He struggles to contain the energy boiling within him. His treatment by the gods has pushed him to the knife-edge of reason and his rages terrify everyone. As he descends into a battle frenzy, Fhorn chants a litany of Awareness to ward off confusion and madness. His friends breathe a sigh of relief. =================================== Like a Truck, Berserker! =================================== Difficulty: Veteran Upscaled with a Party -------------------------------------------------------------- Class: Brute (Berserker + Fighter) -------------------------------------------------------------- Race: Nature Godlike -------------------------------------------------------------- Background: Deadfire Archipelago – Explorer -------------------------------------------------------------- Stats (No Berath's Blessings): MIG: 15 CON: 12 DEX: 15 PER: 12 INT: 12 RES: 12 -------------------------------------------------------------- Important Skills: Athletics -------------------------------------------------------------- Abilities (a=auto, ®=recommended, !=important) PL1 Barbarian Carnage (a) Berserker (a) Frenzy (!) Not amazing for single target but great for groups. Equip Boltcatchers and apply Storm Toxin for maximum shock value. Weapon 2: The Willbreaker (Make them Flinch, Unavoidable Demise) - A devastating weapon with nasty afflictions and upgrades to ensure they land. Weapon 3: Mechanical Marvel - Fhorn doesn’t do ranged much, but when he does, he prefers an Arbalest with a knockdown. Chest: Patinated Plate (Constant Rebound, Burnished Joints) Helmet: None Amulet: Strand of Favor - For the 10%. Trinket: I rest sparingly, so trinkets get switched out frequently. Cloak: Champion's Cape Gloves: Gatecrashers Ring: Etonia Signet Ring Ring: Ring of the Solitary Wanderer Belt: Ngati's Girdle Boots: Boots of Stone Pet: Epsilon – Less recovery time due to armor for Fhorn, increased stride for party ----------------------------------------------------------------- Offense: Fhorn opens with Tactical Barrage, Lion's Sprint, and Spirit Tornado (Disciplined Barrage, Wild Sprint, and Frenzy at low levels). Barrage cancels out Frenzy's confusion making Fhorn's friends happy. Fhorn is a melee off-tank who wades into the thickest part of the battle, placing as many enemies as possible in range of his carnage AoE and debuffs. With sprint, he's lightning quick, and can land a devastating attack anywhere on the battlefield. An ideal position is on a blob of enemies locked down by Eder. He makes a great hammer to Eder's anvil. He's not worried about stealing aggro, the more enemies focused on him, the faster he gets. Fhorn is most efficient when 3+ enemies are in front of him, but his mobility and interrupting attacks make him a deadly mage hunter too. Fhorn is mundane without an inspiration buff, but any of them will trigger his +1 power-level bonus. Barrage, Frenzy, and Sprint are all cheap inspirations, but Sprint's short duration makes it situational. In many fights, Fhorn can have three active inspirations and rotate between Penetrating Strikes and Barbaric Smashes. Clear Out is an expensive Full Attack knockback on everyone in range, which can be devastating and is also great for repositioning. For long fights, Fhorn conserves most of his resources for inspirations. Defense: Fhorn's best defense is a good offense, but Spirit Tornado terrifies surrounding enemies and Patinated Plate gives a 30% chance to stun attackers when they hit. In a crowd, there's usually a 1 or 2 unable to attack. Fhorn started out in light and medium armor, but it wasn’t enough. So he donned heavy armor and took armored grace. For half the game, he wore Reckless Brigandine. Eventually, he settled on Patinated Plate and was happy ever after. Unbending prolongs the inevitable, but its Xoti that keeps him running. Fhorn takes lots of damage and he's incentivized to make more enemies attack him. In a ~90-hour playthrough with permanent companions, he leads in total damage done (37%), damage taken (48%), and times knocked out (49). Afflictions: Spirit Frenzy staggers on attack (-5 Might, no engagement for 10s). The Morningstar proficiency subtracts -25 Fortitude on hit (Brute Force allows Fhorn’s attacks to target Fortitude or Deflection). Affinity for Being Surrounded: With Mob Stance, Fhorn gets -5% Recovery per threatened target and a killing blow triggers a free Full Attack on one enemy within range. One Stands Alone grants +20% melee damage when near two or more enemies. Ring of the Solitary Wanderer give -35% hostile effect duration when no allies are nearby. Hit and Crit: Lion’s Sprint add +15 Accuracy to the next attack. Will Breaker converts 25% of Misses to Grazes. Confident Aim converts 30% of Grazes to Hits. Willbreaker converts 10% of Hits to Crits. Frenzy converts 30% of Hits to Crits. Bloody Slaughter converts 20% of Hits to Crits on targets <= 25% health and adds +50% crit damage. Disclaimers: I respec'd Fhorn once around level 12, changing him from a dual-wielder to a 2-hand user. I also switched him from the Blood Frenzy track to Spirit Frenzy. He was too fragile at that point in the game, and I thought that Spirit frenzy would give him better survivability and team synergy. Making enemies cower and staggering loads of them is great for survival. Still, I won't deny that I missed melting foes with Blood Frenzy. The reason for the switch to 2-handers was two-fold. First, due to some poor luck or itemization, I hadn't found any axes or flails worth a damn at the time. The second reason was Modwyr. Major spoiler below if you don't already know about Modwyr. Also, the extra penetration from 2-handers and the morningstar's Fortitude debuff.

  22. The bestest weapon! By the way, speaking of Willbreaker: in earlier runs I never enchanted it with "Make them Flinch" (25% miss to graze conversion) because I thought the alternative has more impact. But I came to realize that when it really matters (meaning taking on the tough nuts and not "winning more" against the trash mobs) it's a great enchantment. Especially if you combine it with Gloves of Greater Reliablity (also 25% iirc). Grazes are sooo much better than Misses. Even if the enemies' deflection (or fortitude, what is lower - hello Brute Force) is so high you would only miss otherwise you will graze quite often and apply effects that will make it more easy to hit properly.

  23. Thanks for the feedback! Good questions, I wrestled a bit with Spirit Tornado. Ultimately, I went with it because it is the upgrade to Spirit Frenzy and I hoped it works at a higher power level or something. In practice, the terrify turned out to be good. As for Blood Thirst, I probably overlooked it. I invested a lot in recovery reduction skills and equipment and figured dropping recovery to 0 for 10 seconds wouldn’t make a huge difference. About Savage Defiance, it costs 3 rage. That’s 3 frenzies! Fhorn is very resource limited and I felt like everything he has needs to be used for offense. I love Sprint. Its max range is greater than Leap’s. Fhorn can go all over the place before it runs out. If the route is blocked then Leap has the advantage, but there’s usually a way around or there’s always Clear Out if he really has to break through. Plus, Sprint gives immunity to engagement and it counters DEX afflictions. And the DEX inspiration is good for offense too. The Lion’s Sprint upgrade isn’t quite as essential, but +15 Accuracy means the first swing always lands and it usually crits. All this and its only 1 rage, half the cost of Leap. It was a coincidence that I made a brute, but I learned about the Willbreaker from you and that’s when I realized how great the Morningstar is.

  24. I just used the console to give a Stormspeaker/Watershaper (Tekehu) the Fury subclass - inkluding the Fury's +1 PEN passive: unfortunately the "elements" keyword were stripped form those invocations and thus the +1 PEN of the Fury does not apply. Still a nice concept thematically though.

'tween folks dying from covid and leaving behind pets and now the d-bags who is sudden inconvenienced by pet ownership returning their boon companions, we knew this were gonna happen. were a similar dynamic during and after the great rescission. once the moratorium on evictions is lifted, am suspecting the situation will get even worse for pets. sucks.

  27. For whatever reason, my brain is wired so I'm much better at perceiving the world through sound and touch than visuals. I suck at remembering faces, names etc. but I can quote somebody on what they said 30 years ago and I can pick a voice out of a crowd of 50 people arguing and recognize it. I can't remember the 8 digit code to the gate in the face around where I live, but my fingers "remember" the sequence by the familiarity of the touch of the buttons in specific places. So, I thought (because of my personal bias) that audio recordings from other worlds are a fascinating thing

In Detail: Different seasons would provide a whole new map with diffrent bugs, animals, frozen ponds, or winter where everything is dry and such.. Also weather which would change the map moving things around in storms and also flooding and such.. Also make the house explorable.

  32. I've got a lot of out there ideas I would love to see in grounded for yall. Snails - Scarcely spawning insects that you have to kill with a tier 2 hammer. they would drop snail slime, snail meat, and snail shell shards. You could use snail slime in combination with grub goop to create slime traps and slime bombs. Slime traps would completely trap smaller insects and simply slow down larger insects. They can be placed on walls, on the floor, or even upside down. Slime bombs would be balls of slime wrapped in clover leaves that you can throw on any surface to create a slimy splat that would have the same effect as slime traps. You could use snail shell shard with clay to create unfired pottery items like vases, statues/sculptures, or big bowls that you can store multiple smoothies of the same kind inside. You would have to use the oven to fire them though. I also thought of using snail shell shards to make shell boomerangs, that you can throw at enemies, coming back to you after. You can also make them poisonous using spider venom. Maybe even a snail shell shield, idk. Crawfish - Crawfish would spawn crawling at the bottom of the pond that would be pretty hard to kill. They would drop crawfish claws and crawfish chunks. You can use crawfish chunks to create crawfish armor, the helmet and leggings being combined with the flippers and the breathing thing, giving you their abilities while still having armor. each piece of armor you where would also increase your swimming speed. You could use the crawfish claws with spider silk to create a grappling claw that you could throw at insects like a grappling hook. You can then pull on the spider silk rope, pulling smaller insects towards you, and pulling yourself towards larger insects. The crawfish chest plate would increase your grappling power. Flies that would spawn around the large human foods (Not sure of the use here, could use some help). A mortar and pestle that could make jelly out of berries and acorn butter out of acorn chunks. Use cookie chunks as "bread" and you can create an AB&J that would give you a speed boost, and be very filling. You could also make apple butter or apple jam out of apple chunks. Maybe use it to make ground meat (Not sure of the uses here, could use some help) (Could use more ideas on this one). Ladybugs could drop very filling ladybug steaks. A rhinoceros beetle boss (Not sure of the use here, could use some help). A bat that swoops down from the sky and grab bugs or even you at night (Could use more ideas on this one). A cart that you can fill with a bunch of planks and get it pulled by a ladybug (Could use more ideas on this one). A fire pit area where you can find melty marshmallow goop that you scoop up with a shovel (Not sure of the use here, could use some help), graham cracker and chocolate chunks, as well as ash you can scoop up with a shovel. You would climb inside on a marshmallow prong stick thing or a guitar/banjo that's propped up against the fire pit (Not sure of the uses here, could use some help) (Could use more ideas on this one). Frog or Toad boss, you would use its tongue covered in spikes as a long ranged flail weapon. Maybe as an almost grappling hook, minus the hook, or the grappling. It probably wouldn't be both though (Could use more ideas on this one). Poseable mannequins/armor stands (Forgot what their called). Stick bugs (Not sure of the use here, could use some help). Leaf bugs (Not sure of the use here, could use some help). Centipedes/millipedes (Not sure of the use here, could use some help). Earwigs (Not sure of the use here, could use some help). A bean garden area. Alternatively a pepper garden area (Not sure of the use here, could use some help). Silkworms (Not sure of the use here, could use some help). Dung beetles (Not sure of the use here, could use some help). Dry grass roofs. Aphid coops/pens where you can collect aphid honeydew easily. Big bowls/basins you can put under the straws of juice to collect it. Drinking soda gives you a small speed boost. Brighter wall mounted torches or other fiery light sources made of charcoal. Berry leather backpacks. Berry leather couches, like the chairs, but bigger. Feedback and ideas to build onto mine very welcome, goodbye.

  34. It's more correct to say that Baldur's Gate was a flagship IP two decades ago. While using Baldurs Gate 3 as the title was an obvious attempt to cash in on nostalgia, I think the big budget is mostly because WotC wanted a big game along with the new TV series to milk the IP. As such they'd probably throw many at anything they thought would be commercially successful, which is unfortunately the Forgotten Realms.

  35. I am making a guess, but I wonder if a non-Baldur's Gate game would be able to get such a big budget. BG is a flagship IP, so even though Larian is more interested in expanding their D:OS formula, it might have greatly controbuted to funding. I find Larian's storytelling wanting. Their games feel to me more like sandbox or themepark then an interactive story or adventure. Wealth of interactivity and reactivity doesn't mean anything to me, if I am not drawn into fiction. Having choice is unappealing, if I am not concerned about outcome. I really dislike Larian's coopcentric design - Origins I think are a horrible abomination resulting in not interesting companions, and reducing our ability to shape our custom NPC when deciding to go that route. I am doubtful if Larian's commitment to high fidelity presentation will pay off. What we have so far, I think is awful, but with game not being finished yet it is difficult to say how it will look. And then there is weird stuff - taking rest teleporting you to a pocked-universe camp in a generic woods, quick travel teleport, singular map design which doesn't try to create a coherent locations (people unaware of what is happening outside the zone they have been designed for - think Driftwood citizens from D:OS2 unaware of a massive hole in the ground a minute away from their town). I will am not hang up on any individual changes (being made by Larian, I did expect to get Larian game) but I am doubtful. When it was announced I thought: "Larian game using DnD setting and ruleset! I can get behind that", and then Larian seems to try to gut DnD and make it as close to Divinity as they can - missing is rare due to overabundance of advantage, guaranteed source of damage through surfaces, broken action economy. It's not even D:OS2 vs DnD - it's just both work so differently that I think Larian is in danger of satisfying no one. But they still have time to itirate. I do hope the changes he is talking about will attempt to fix at least some problems (like reactions). I don't really judge BG3 against BG1&2 - I see Larian games as a completely different genre then Infinity Engine games, though I wish they had a different sense of humor. I find their games rather unfunny. Then again, I didn't like D:OS2 much. In fact, I thought D:OS1 was a better title. I do think that BG3 will be better then either, and BG3 definitely tries to address at least some of the criticism one could level against D:OS2 (companions are way more fleshed out for one), but it still doesn't just click with me. My datailed thoughts on each are here and here.

  36. We know it's Divinity: Original Sin 3 in all but name and setting. That's enough for many people to be disappointed. Many of the friends and acquaintances I have that enjoyed the Baldur's Gate series did not enjoy the D:OS-games all that much. Regardless of whether the game is any good as it is, anyone expecting something even remotely resembling the Baldur's Gate series is going to majorly disappointed, because this ain't it. I'm still baffled by the need to abuse the name of a long completed series and then make a game nothing like it. A game that, from the looks of it, could very well have stood on its own based on Larian's merit, the pedigree of the setting, and the quality of the product that's out there (so far). I really can't help but see this as an ego-trip in that they were allowed to make Baldur's Gate 3. That or a severe case of company-level imposter syndrome, I suppose. To people not having played BG1&2 it doesn't matter. And those that did either don't care, or are mightily annoyed. The entire thing reminds me of Prey, that drama was completely unnecessary and marred the reputation of what was otherwise a great game in the eyes of many and it still gets brought almost every single time Prey is mentioned.

  37. From Reddit to Steam to the Obsidian forums, I've seen people asking for companion builds for as long as the game has come out. There are a lot of threads with helpful guidance, and a few Youtube videos that are... alright. There are awesome builds, presented by the community, that, while not built for companions, that companions can do a good job of running themselves. That said, all of the above takes a lot more effort for a player than just having a guide for said character, so I'm going to do my best to slowly work towards making them. A few things about these builds: If a contender for BiS (best in slot) can be found in Act 2, and a marginally better item can be found in the bottom of Od Nua, late-WM1/2, or Act 3, I'm going to have the earlier item listed. I want you to be able to reliably use these builds for a playthrough. I will generally not have items that require RNG like Adventure or Azzuro items listed if it can be helped. Finally, my builds are not going to be the end-all be-all. If you see something in the guide, but your personal experience/playstyle has found something else to be more effective, do that, and please consider letting us know. I fully expect these builds to generate discussion, and to serve as a more centralized source of information than scouring years of threads on several different mediums in order to try and sift through the information, good and outdated, to make informed decisions. With all that said, let's get started. Kana Stats MIG: 16 (possible +3) CON: 12+2 DEX: 9+2 PER: 14 INT: 17+3 RES: 10+3 Talents 2: Ancient Memory 4: Beloved Spirits 6: Veteran's Recovery 8: Sword and Shield Style 10/12/14: Snake's Reflexes, Boar's Will*1, Bear's Fortitude 16 (Choose One): Weapon Focus Peasant or Adventurer, Superior Deflection, Cautious Attack *1 With the immunities granted by Company Captain's Cap, you may find you don't need as much Will. If this is the case, substitute it for one of the Talents listed under options for level 16. Abilities At Recruitment: "At the Sight of their Comrades, their Hearts Grew Bold", "Blessed Was Wengridh, Quickest of His Tribe", and "If their Bones Sleep Still Under that Hill, None Can Say". 2. "The Thunder Rolled like Waves on Black Seas" 3. "Come, Come Soft Winds of Death" 4. "White Worms Writhed in the Bellies of the Dead"*1 5. "Rime and Frost Followed the Footfalls of Karth"*2 6. "At the Sound of His Voice, the Killers Froze Stiff" 7-8. +#s 9. "The Dragon Thrashed, The Dragon Wailed" 10-14. +#s 14. "So Singt thy Biting Winds o' Eld Nary" 15-16. +#s *1 I've never personally gotten this to work, but I know it's good. Feel free to switch it with something else (like the Phantom summon). *2 For the Burning House event in Stalwart. Alright, let me get this out of the way: I know there are more ways to build a Chanter than spamming Dragon Thrashed. However, there are issues when we're specifically talking about Kana: he has a DEX of 9. Even if you give him Viettro's Formal Footwear and Gauntlets of Swift Action, and build him to be as fast as he can be, it's not going to be fantastic. Yes, you can build around "Sure-Handed Ila...". Yes, you can build around "Aefyllath Ues Mith Fyr". Kana just isn't necessarily the best candidate. I think he's actually got one of the better stat spreads for his class as far as companions go (high MIG and INT), and is competent at what is the strongest, easiest Chanter strategy available. In addition, a lot of your choices here will come down to personal preference. At level 8, Wurms, Will-o-Wisp, and "Rejoice, My Comrades!" all make sense depending on how you play your Chanter. I personally am just going to spam "the Killers Froze Stiff" most of the time, so I'd take Rejoice for emergency situations and use Figurines for my summons, but you might prefer a dedicated summoner. As long as you have Dragon Thrashed going on Kana (and or 90+% of Chanters) once you hit level 9, it really couldn't matter less what you take. I'm inspired to make some non-Dragon Thrashed Chanters now... Equipment Boots: Boots of the Long March Head: Company Captain's Cap Armor: Ryona's Breastplate*1 Neck: Voice of the Mountaintop*2 Belt: Belt of Bountiful Healing or Girdle of Maegfolc Might Ring 1: Ring of Overseeing*3 Ring 2: Ring of Protection Hand: Bracers of Deflection*4 Weapon: The Vile Loner's Lance, Little Savior*5 Weapon 2: Forgotten Tear of the Beloved *1: Earlier on, I recommend Äru-Brekr. It's easy to acquire and is pretty good, granting move speed and increased deflection versus ranged attacks. If Ryona's Breastplate is being claimed by another party member ( ), then He Carries Many Scars serves as a strong substitute. In the event both are claimed, consider Lost Meadow Mail or just staying with Äru-Brekr. *2: I consider the Neck slot a very strong slot, and it's unfortunate that the Chanter-exclusive equipment is in this slot. If you find yourself not needing the AoE, consider Cloak of Comfort for an additional +5 to all defenses, or Cape of the Master Mystic to free up your Hand slot and for the strongest Of Deflection enchantment. *3: We don't take Gathbin Family Signet here because its immunities are redundant with our Head piece, and another character could probably make better use of it. If you're not using Company Captain's Cap for some reason, strongly consider using this instead because you don't want your Dragon Thrashed spammer getting charmed/dominated and killing your party. On the other hand, if you don't feel you need the AoE, Frigid Claim, Ring of Unshackling, Ring of Deflection, and Wyrwood Ring are all considerations to replace it. *4: Bracers of Deflection is here instead of Glittering Gauntlets due to the latter being bugged (at one point?). If it's confirmed that you're no longer going to Daze your Priest for casting Withdraw on your Chanter, then that replaces this item for the slot if you manage to get them. Hands are usually a slot relegated to Forgemaster's Gloves and Gauntlets of Swift Action. However, we carry Little Savior, and don't care about our attack speed, so using this normally highly-competitive slot for Deflection isn't as painful as it appears at first glance. That said, if you can get the Deflection in the Neck or Ring slot, Mourning Gloves, Gauntlets of Accuracy, or Celebrant's Gloves (put this on and trade Ring of Overseeing for Ring of Deflection if you get them) are excellent substitutes. *5: Little Savior is BiS, and the main reason we're built the way we are. It is also a fairly late game item for most people. As you're leveling, consider Ilfan Byrngar's Solace and Redfield as placeholders. This is for a low-micro, low-effort Kana. We're not using many Spellbind items. The point of this character is to sit on the frontlines with 113 Deflection, 112 Fortitude, 123 Reflex, and 118 Will with good immunities before buffs at max level (you can get this higher with some gear substitutions listed above). Kana will live, and kill everything else around him. Forgotten Tear of the Beloved works well with our immunities, and makes up for our highly-contested Ring slots. You could even forgo The Vile Loner's Lance for it if you really don't care about trying to trigger Disorienting when we're not really trying to make him accurate with the weapon. Chanters get good use out Spellbind items because they don't interfere with Chanting, and the alternative is usually auto-attacking, so if you really want to use a certain Spellbind item, especially if it takes a less-important slot (looking at the Boot slot), go for it. He appreciates having a Paladin in the group equipped with an Outworn Buckler, or another S&S ally with a second Little Savior from The Helwax Mold. Every party appreciates a Priest for buffs. Due to the nature of defenses in this game, I would recommend this build if you're trying to build a tanky party with stacking Defense Auras and abilities that try to outlast their foes while Dragon Thrashed, Shining Beacon, and other such effects kill the opponent due to attrition. The support builds will not make glass cannons suddenly "tanky", but might make you feel the glass just a little less often. If your party is utilizing low-Deflection strategies to trigger things like Swaddling Sheet, Sanguine Plate, and Shod-in-Faith, you may need to make some adjustments to ensure you're not interfering with your party's overall game plan. - and that's pretty much a Kana build. This is probably the easiest companion to build simply because his stats naturally lend him towards the most meta build for Chanters anyway, so there wasn't anything crazy here. I'm hoping, as I build other companions, that things will get more creative. Hopefully this build helps you!
