  1. I just got into it with a guy not wearing a mask at Petsmart. An employee asked him to please put on a mask. He said the CDC doesn't require it. I jumped in and said it is clearly store policy, it is the policy of the county, and it is still the state policy. He told me to mind my own business. I asked him if he was too entitled to respect the teenagers who work here. He wandered off. Ugh. Honestly I just don't get it. I don't actually wear a mask because of some rule. I wear it to respect the people I am going to be around that are not part of my social circle. I go into a store and they don't know I've been vaccinated. I teach in a class of students and they all have to wear a mask, so I do too. It's such a weird thing that a fairly simple act of caution and respect to those around us is seen as some sort of terrible tyranny. This guy was a full grown adult, not some dumb kid. Bleh.

  2. On a lighter/less grump note - my husband turned 55 this year and is still the bestest husband in the world, the most handsome adorable dork, who makes me giggle the mostest, who will appear and stand in the doorway, then randomly start doing a silent little dancing shuffle jig for me because he sees I'm feeling down and he knows such makes me laugh. I chose well. Time to make some lunch!

  3. you don't get to alter if you don't bother to read the link. "the alt-right and no-compromise gun folks aren't afraid of needles or masks. they is afraid of the government, but only the wrong government. the same folks angry at being forced to wear masks is perfect ok with the government stepping in and limiting the first amendment rights of big tech, or the voting rights o' predominant minority communities in pennsylvania or arizona. oh, and don't forget the muslim ban." HA! Good Fun!

  6. Speaking of "Arkane", I just replayed "Dishonored" before playing the sequel. As fun as before, chaos playthrough especially, and still main game is so much better than the DLC (methinks it's because I don't care much for that arsehole Daud, as DLC's set pieces and lore were great and IMO oft better than main game's). ...and then I decided not to play D2 after all, since it's gonna be years until "Deathloop" ends on GOG (if ever) so it's nice to know I have something to fall back onto as I seem to have developed Arcane addiction. So now I'm replaying Deus EX HR before the sequel. I remember some things (take typhoon for bosses and forget other combat stuff, also lifting heavy objects will be very useful), forgot other things (why the IT guy is so belligerent??? And there are so many locked doors and computers I have to break into and rob, I hardly have time for the story) , and then there are things that muscle memory absolutely must forget after "Dishonored", like jumping down.

  7. An unusual build from me this time around, a laptop. An old Toshiba (now 10 years old), that I got because it wasn't being used. The biggest issue it had was that its battery was borked as it wasn't being used for years and so some of the cells went kaput as they they were completely discharged. I got a new battery double the capacity of the OEM (8800mAh) with the added benefit that it lifts the back of the laptop and provides better cooling. Next on the block was the CPU, it had a i5-2430M (2 cores/4 threads) which I replaced with a i7-2670QM (4 cores/8 threads). There wasn't anything better that was priced reasonably, the extreme versions were too expensive and for the 3xxx series I wasn't sure the MB bios would support it, although the socket was the same. Now came the issue of CPU throttling, it would lock the CPU to its lowest frequency at random times and would not unlock it until a reboot. I could not figure out the reason why apart from the driver support on Win10. I got a new cooler to eliminate thermals (it wasn't it) and searched the whole net to find a solution. What I settled on was installing ThrottleStop and that remedied that issue. Next on the agenda was the cracked plastic on the base around the cooler as is usually the case with laptops, I thought I lucked out with an ebay find of new old stock for the same model, but upon arrival and attempted assembly some of the MB screw holes were in a different position, I would have had to modify it to a point were the old case would be better. I was out of pocket on shipping both ways for that. What caught my eye next was the wifi card. It had an old Qualcomm/Atheros wifi/bluetooth card that couldn't even connect to a 5ghz network (got 30-40mb max), took ages on startup to connect to a network (again old laptop with old drives and Windows 10) and bluetooth that not all my devices could connect to. Upon researcher I found that intel wifi chips AX210 are being sold with the newest wifi 6e and bluetooth 5.2 (there are older intel chip versions available too). I first started looking in the US, but all that was available were AX200 and with the wrong antenna sockets. Looking further I found a reddit thread that said aliexpress had cards that worked, the biggest trouble was finding a mini PCI e card with the right antenna socket as recently aliexpress shipping to my country has become an issue so there aren't that many products that are available anymore. Luckily I found a supplier that had good reviews and a manufacturer that I was looking for. In a couple of weeks I got the card, installed it in the laptop downloaded the drivers from Intel and so far it works perfectly, I can even cast to another display now. So if you guys want the latest wifi/bluetooth standard on your laptop there is an easy and cheap way to do it. One more thing I tried was getting a 1080p display for it, but I figured out that the flat cable connector the MB has doesn't support it. Which sucks as it has a HDMI connector that can do 1080p and many other laptops from that time period had MBs with a connector that could connect to a 1080p display... The only issue the laptop has right now is a sound card that doesn't work due to driver support, thank you Conexant. I was able to find a driver which would install on win10 but the speakers still crackle when over 40% and the sound dies for a short time because the sound card overheats. There is a "solution" where you can install a copper plate over it which stops it from overheating, but I didn't bother with that as laptop speakers suck anyways. I have a good bluetooth speaker and headphone can easily be connected. For now that is pretty much it, still looking (not really) for a plastic base to replace my cracked one (which is really not that cracked) and will maybe get a 4gb ram stick to replace the 2gb that is in there for a total of 8gb. Oh yeah and **** MS, their latest Cumulative update fails to install for some reason so I will more then likely have to reinstall windows unless the next months update fixes it. edit: oh yeah and it has an SSD, but that was done before I got it. edit2: word of caution on the wifi card upgrade, Lenovo and HP (only for a certain time period for HP) laptops have a whitelist in bios that will only let their own cards work. So you would need to install a modified version of the bios to get around that. This goes for LTE modems too and in this case the whitelist exists on newer HP laptops too.

  8. I have made one useless hotmail address a long time ago that I use to register everything I don't care about with (and really never check, if anyone tries to contact me through that mail address, well, sucks to be you), and use my normal mail address for the things I need, i.e. electronic signatures, e-governance, online banking - and yes, various game platforms and online shops I use more than once. Not that I don't understand, needing an Ubisoft login prevents me from making use of the free Watchdog games I got from Epic. Not going to register there, sorry Ubisoft. Maybe later. But using a different mail address for everything? That sounds like way too much effort for not enough gain. Just use 10 Minute Mail accounts if you're worried about spam and really only want to be able to complete an activation process. Fire & forget! You can even use these to register with all the hentai games you want to play without your spouse finding out. Or so I have been told. Really.

  9. I guess by Berserker you mean Barbarian. Because there's no Berserker in PoE1 - but there is one in Deadfire as a Barbarian subclass. Streetfighter with blunderbuss is very straightforward. If you want to use Hand Mortar and Fire in the Hole (which I would recommend unless you want to build a Mortar Monk in the same party as well) then you want max INT because of the AoE of both weapons. If you want to use "regular" blunderbusses you don't need that much INT. With regular blunderbusses there's a small problem: you need backup weapons with non-pierce dmg because there's quite some pierce-resistant or even -immune enemies. But that's all basically. For a damage dealer you want high PER and DEX and also usually MIG - a Streetfigter can do with less MIG though because he already gets a ton of dmg bonuses so that a little chunk from MIG isn't really noticable. DEX (being a multiplicative dps influence rather than MIG which is additive only) is more important. PER, too because not only do blunderbusses have an ACC malus but also Powder Burns will cost you 5 PER because of the distraction it will put on you. As second class: you can use Barbarian or even Berserker. Berserker is nice because of the added PEN, but besides that it's also very dangerous because the self damage is high and you can't see you health. On the other hand you can get yourself to bloodied (50% health) in no time and then you're not only "On the Edge" (where your Streetfigter gets a lot of bonus crit damage) but also profit from Blooded of the Barbarian. Combined with Bloody Slaughter and Barbaric Smash you can do a lot of damage in a very short time and even get a Rage refund if you use it as killing blow (way better then Finishing Blow imo). Some additional cool stuff with Berserker + mortar blunderbusses: you can either apply Spirit Frenzy's staggered in an AoE with every shot or Blood Frenzy's raw DoT which stacks with Deep Wounds etc. With Blood Storm + mortars you will land crits so frequently that your Frenzy will stay on forever without recast, too. But so will the self damage (so beware). There's one other problem with Berserker Frenzy. It confuses you. That means with mortars the AoE will get smaller and you will hit your friends with the AoE. That last part may not be as bad as it sounds because you will hit friends with Powder Burns already so you want to make sure nobody friendly is where you are aiming your blunderbusses. You can get rid of confusion by using Svef, eating special food at rest (like Luminous Lobster) or using items (like the Devil of Caroc Breastplate which can be enchanted with a resistance which makes you basically immune to Confusion. It's a great armor for a Rogue/Barb anyway so I would aim for that). There are other problems with Barb/Berserker: Blood Thirst doesn't work with reloading weapons - you will still have the reloading time. It's one of the best passives of a Barbarian so that's a shame. Berserker Frenzy has a really good crit conversion. But it only works in melee. There are other passives that don't work with ranged weapons, like Interrupting Blows. So... it's fun but it's tricky. Since it's a bit difficult to monitor your health you will def. go down in combat from time to time. High CON and a fat health pool with passives like "Tough" and at the beginning an Amulet of (Greater) Health can help. A healer, too of course. So with a Berserker high(ish) CON isn't the worst idea. Like... don't dump it. Stalwart Defiance and the Voidward Ring are two things (among others) that may save you a lot of headache. If you have a Priest in the party you can use Barring Death's Door + Salvation of Time on your Streetfighter/Berserker which gives him god mode basically. Besides Barbarian/Berserker there are other classes that fit nicely: Ranger has high accuracy and the other obvious ranged abilities like Gunner and so on but also Driving Flight (especially awesome with mortars since the AoE also jumps). If you don't like animal companions there's the Ghost Heart subclass. With mortars and Driving Flights there will be mayhem. If you use stuff like Blinding Strike with that setup it's like a guarantee that you will always hit all enemies because there's so many attack rolls. Fire in the Hole has a build-in jump. It stacks with Driving Flights. If you pick an Arcane Archer: his Imbue shots release their effect with every jump. Fire in the Hole in the main hand with Driving Flight and Imbue:Eora will drop three(!) Pulls of Eora with enormous accuracy which will pull everything together. Now hitting with AoE stuff becomes so easy - while it's also a great CC effect obviously. If you combine it with Imbue:Web you will have locked those clumped enemies in place, too (3 parallel instances of binding web stop anything that isn't resistant/immune). Monk is very good as second class, too. Especially with mortars. Monks have Duality of Mortal Presence which can give you +10 INT. It leads to very big AoE sizes for your mortars. Also Monks have Stunning Surge which is excellent with mortars, too. Basically it's a free AoE stun without costs most of times in this combo. The Helwalker subclass even adds up to +10 MIG which is cool - but it also makes you more squishy (but nowhere as bad as Berserker). And also Monks can use Thunderous Blows ti get that sweet +2 PEN that the Berserker comes with, only later. Enduring Dance adds not only wounds to fuel your abilites but also let you gain up to 12 ACC which is good. Finally Lightning Strikes make you even faster and add a sweet shocking lash. Also with the Long Pain the Monk later gets an excellent backup for blunderbusses should you need crush dmg at range or simply want to finish off single enemies with good single target damage (mortars are not that good then). Chanter is also a good second class, especially Troubadour because he has an easy time to keep up two parallel phrases at once. When you combine Mith Fyr + Sure Handed Ila you (and the party) will be having a nice burning lash and incredibly fast shooting speed (because Sure Handed Ila has this effect with reloading weapons that it applies both the recovery bonus AND the reloading bonus to your blunderbusses - stacked with your Streetfighter recovery bonus from "Heating Up"). And besides the shooting you'd also have plenty of cool invocations to choose from. For example summons that will help to keep enemies away from you. Black Jacket Fighter would allow you to switch weapon sets without any recovery. You could basically fire blunderbusses as soon as you want to heat up, then switch to something else and use the lightning speed with those weapons instead. Plenty of options. I personally consider Streetfigter/Arcane Archer and Streetfigter/Helwalker with dual mortars (Hand Mortar + Fire in the Hole) to be most fun - but that's my subjective opinion. I like strong "on the fly" CC in combination with damage and both have plenty. Berserker/Streetfighter is brute force. Lots of dmg and speed but little CC. And risky - but that can be fun, too. Troubadour/Streetfighter is strong and very versatile - but it requires to do more diverse stuff, not just shooting. Which might not be what you're looking for (?).

  11. I do have a little bit of an excuse in that I had actually been engaged in a multi-hour titanic battle with trying to mount the heatsink bracket, which on the FUMA 2 is designed in such a way that you have to either have mounted it onto the motherboard outside of the case OR you need a third hand to keep it together, and I'd already put my MB into the case and didn't feel like taking it out, and I'd been putting it together very early in the morning with no-one else around to help. I should've just taken the motherboard out or waited, because I was incredibly incensed at my new PC after trying a bunch of different ideas to do it without either of those - I finally concocted a harebrained solution to do it that worked, but I was mad and tired and just kinda tossed my heatsink onto it in the frenzy without really looking at it. Funnily, after getting it up and running, I actually had the thought "...did I take the plastic off? I specifically told myself to do that at some point, but I don't remember...I must have, it's working, after all!". No, past me, no I didn't. Shocked the temperatures were as good as they were during all of my benchmarking and testing for like an entire week.

  12. hey guys, quick question, is your cpu cooler supposed to look like this (image taken from someone else's reddit post but still accurate) In completely unrelated news, my Cinebench R23 score jumped up to 15620 without any OC or making any changes, no idea why though, must be magic I guess, . Oh, and in other, even more completely unrelated news, I have been cancelled from working in IT or with computers ever again, this is my final message to all of you because my PC and other devices have decided that I'm no longer allowed to use them, goodbye forever

  16. I also tried The Way of the Househusband. Finished the first "episode" on Netflix, more like the first six mini-stories. I can corroborate what KP said, it looks bad and takes some getting used to. It's pretty... weird though, and definitely entertaining. The animation - or lack thereof, mostly - is breaking my brain though. It takes an extraordinary amount of contentration for me to read the subs and look at the picture for some reason. Not sure why, but it's extremely stressful in the way every other subtitled anime so far wasn't. Still, I'm going to finish it. It's not that long.

But the issue with that is that the American government does not tolerate peer competitors and doesn't seem to hesitate to use military force to stop any potential rivalry, which is strange for a country that claims to worship the theory free market competition.

  23. ...which is a pretty huge disadvantage IMO. When using a Full Attack ability you're not only halving your number of attacks with their damage, Penetration (most rogue abilities have Pen bonuses) and Accuracy (some), but also you reduce your chances to afflict enemies with assorted debuffs and/or DOTs (two-weapon attack = 2 chances to inflict statuses).

They are doing the smart thing and preparing for the future, I really doubt it has anything to do with supporting the local economy.

  28. Time will tell, but not necessarily. So far all we hear claims, that Microsoft has no interest in messing with any of the studios it purchased. https://www.ign.com/articles/bethesda-will-run-semi-independently-under-microsoft As far as I can tell, Bethesda Softworks still exists it is just Microsoft subsidiary, instead of ZeniMax Media. Or rather if I read it right: ZeniMax Media is now Microsoft subsidiary, which further makes Bethesda Softworks Mic’s sub-subsidiary. On a side note, I am not sure what is worse: Ep. 1-3 or 7-9. Anyhow, there are still only 2 good Star Wars movies (ep. 4&5) and two passable ones (ep. 6 and Rogue One), and one pretty entertaining show. So far Disney isn’t terribly behind. My takeaway isn’t “Disney is worse then Lucas” but “don’t continue milking a cow, after it runs dry”. oh, coming back to the thread - high on Titanfall2 excellence I played through Fallen Order - which is a pretty fun StarWars romp. Easily the best SW game since KOTOR. Not quite as good story wise as those, and not genuinely great action game as Outcast/Academy, but it’s quite alright! See, EA, all you need to do is to release average games with lovable IP and everyone is happy.

  29. I enjoyed the interview but it was much of the same with all accusations levelled towards Russia and their interference in countries, he denied it obviously and playing the " Snowden and Prism did it " card is old but reliable Asking a question like " did you do it " and expecting any answer apart from " no we didnt " just seems a waste of time. Russia did do it and their is always a digital footprint when it comes to any state sponsored hacking that points irrefutably at the country involved like Stuxnet was created by the Israelis But I will agree with a point you have raised in the past, you can at least understand and reason with the Russians compared to the CCP. Its easier to understand and address the Russian objectives compared to what the CCP thinks around certain developments related to their global policies and hegemony

  30. I sometimes use a yahoo address for stuff I think might be a bit suspicious, but want to keep, I'm in the lucky owner (ok, not owner, paying customer) of a hosting service where I manage my own email accounts, ftp, website etc. Also a place where I park a number of domain names I own, including my family name and some legacy game sites I bled a lot of money for to acquire, "liberating" them from becoming parking domains for cheap mortgage type links. I would rather see a blank, white page on those addresses than seeing them being desecrated by low life spam links. Anyway, it enables me to create any number of email accounts for short term purposes that can just be deleted when I don't feel I need them anymore Edit: Ok, not quite true that I prefer blank white pages, but I never found the time to put up some proper memorial type sites for something I really loved playing way back.

It's why I'm not getting the Mass Effect remaster either. Remember when games didn't need you to register for anything and you weren't bombarded with sales pitches? You just saw something on the shelf, bought it, installed, played? Those were good times. And no, it's not about muh privacy - it's games, not my medical records. I'm just tired of everything (not just game services btw) being attached to a registration process and/or constant sales and "club" messages re: the "benefits" in some pre-play UI or in my email or text msg inbox or .... Maybe one day I will just give in to it all, but so far I'm still ... Get off my lawn, companies. I'm more likely to quit gaming/the 'net at this point.
