An external DAC pretty much is a sound card, just connected via USB instead of PCI. There is a belief that this is superior anyway because it isolates the circuitry from any electrical noise inside your PC. From there it's the same thing, connect it to ye olde powered "computer speakers" or better yet, a separate amplifier and proper hi-fi speakers. I'm of the belief that it's pointless to spend the money on a good sound card or DAC unless you're also investing in a pair of good speakers - and they are an investment, being something that can easily last you decades. You don't need to have all the bits separate of course. A very good option is to go for a combination DAC + amp combo for convenience. Sure the amps contained within are generally just cheap T-amps, but in truth, plenty of this type of amplifier is sold by even high-end brands as "digital" amps for 10x the price. I use a budget Topping VX1 personally - probably discontinued now - but plenty such devices exist, some even with a headphone amp included. __________ Important: a DAC and an amp are completely different things and fulfil entirely different functions, and you need both functions to actually make sound. It's just that they can both be in the same box. If you buy a DAC only, then you will need some sort of amplification later. If you buy an amp only, then you are implicitly using the DAC inside the PC (i.e. onboard sound). To generalise how digital sound reproduction works, there are four links in the chain, and all the links are necessary. It goes source -> DAC -> amplification -> output. Any and all of these elements can be separate, or they may all be in the same device. Some examples: 1) One of those ubiquitous CD boomboxes in the 90. It is a source, DAC, amp and output together in one box. 2) A typical 90s PC would have the source (the CD-ROM drive or just audio files) and DAC (sound card) be inside the PC, and the amplification and output be within the powered speakers you plug into the PC. 3) Playing music through your smartphone. The phone is a source, and if you use wired headphones, the phone is also the DAC and the amp, with the headphones being the output. If you're playing through Bluetooth headphones, then actually your phone is only the source, and the headphones act as the DAC, amp and output. 4) A typical home theatre would have a Blu-ray player as the source, connected to an AV Receiver which acts as the DAC and amp, and the hi-fi speakers would purely handle the output. (In the pre-digital days, e.g. for vinyl or tape, the DAC is omitted of course).3 points

Lunch (crumbled meat is ground turkey) Snacks. To keep the sweet and snack cravings in control fruit is great. And a couple large tablespoons of vanilla ice cream, softened and mixed with lots o berries works well as a tiny treat. I may not be that impressed with "FOUR CAMERAS" in the phone but it does take better pics than the tablet at least.2 points

Facebook added a label to Trump's post claiming that voting by mail will lead to a 'CORRUPT ELECTION' trump is different. point to history o' US elections ignores the scope o' trump's disregard for the norms gd identifies. trump don't read history. trump don't care 'bout history save for when it is convenient. trump is constant looking for ways to get around the Constitution. to take comfort in the constitution and history is, after 3.5 years o' trump, looking increasing naive. gd looks at situation odd. we see such media stories and am not least bit surprised by trump behaviour or the possibility he will fight to his last breath to keep his grip on the resolute desk. trump knows there is gonna be a considerable number o' democrats looking to criminalize his behaviour once he is no longer President and the doj is no longer able to say they are prevented from pursuit o' prosecutions. we question the wisdom o' such prosecutions, but for a guy who is constant complaining 'bout witch hunts, a 2021 with democrat controlled Congress and Presidency is no doubt a nightmare scenario. only thing which continues to disappoint us is the silence. after +3 years o' trump, we are rare shocked by the President and no violation o' rule o' law or public trust is too far outta reach for him. is silence from trump supporters which bothers us. trump voters and his senate supporters is not outraged by trump facebook and twitter tirades. they ain't bothered by portland or even muslim bans. those few who is bothered ain't bothered enough to do other than suggest is just trump being trump? how is it possible to look at what is happening in 2020 and then feel comforted by the previous near 250 years o' US history? I dunno, I don't recall this for every presidential election I've lived through. I really only remember it for Obama and now Trump. Could be that I just didn't pay attention to the right news outlets. I certainly don't remember Carter complaining about mail-in votes being used to rig the election against him, or Clinton's senatorial pals suggesting (jokingly or not) that he was going to run for a third term because of all the investigations of him making that legal. Or Reagan or either Bush doing anything like it either. Again, maybe I just wasn't seeing the right news.2 points

1) They acted rather stupidly. Owning a firearm is a big responsibility. Primarily knowing when to use it. Protesters on the common use street are not a threat, The common use streets of a private gated neighborhood are not the exclusive property of any one homeowner. Protesters on your exclusively private property are a threat and they would have been justified in not just pointing but opening fire. AFAIK the protesters did not set foot on their exclusively private property nor did any damage to it. The couple WERE verbally threatened however, AFTER they confronted them. But for the confrontation it might not have happened but the protesters had already committed one crime just being there. 2) No one's hands in this situation are clean. The prosecutor deciding to charge only the homeowners means this is not about seeking justice rather grinding a political axe. The fact that she is seeking felony charges and lengthy prison terms for only one party in a situation where everyone did wrong is pretty despicable. I wish I were on that jury. There is not chance I'd convict. But this will never see a courtroom IMO. This is a campaign issue and after the election it will probably go away. If I am correct how disgusting is that? Even the criminal justice system is just a political tool.2 points

they are cheering trump so loud they don't hear warnings from folks such as Gromnir. "always consider these kinda moves when used as a weapon pointed at something/somebody you cherish." too many second amendment ppl ignore the danger inherent in giving near absolute authority to one person, a person who next election, or election after, may not share their viewpoint. and am disagreeing with gd as usual. is not government which is a rabid dog. conspiracy 'bout deep state nonsense aside, the federal government is just an organizational scheme and +200 years o' history makes obvious the scheme may be used beneficial or malicious. mostly government grinds along unnoticed doing hundreds o' things unseen w/o any ill will to motivate it. attribute some kinda fundamental flaw to government is transparent shirking o' responsibility. trump, as a prime example, don't have an ideology. he is doing what he believes will resonate with his base. is Americans who is busted. we are more polarized than at any time since ww2, and that is saying a lot. compare gap between approval o' same and opposing party voters for each President since eisenhower. maybe a 30-45 point gap. trump is representing an +70 point gap and inching towards 80. not in living memory has Americans looked at government actions and been so complete divided 'bout whether government is doing right or wrong. is Americans who has become increasingly rabid, both for and against, on every conceivable issue. if a dog is vicious and bites people, am betting gd would first look to the dog's owner to assign responsibility. even if there is something fundamental wrong with the dog, gd would hold the owner of the beast responsible to change the animal's behaviour or to place limits on the potential for doggie harm. is cheap to blame the dog and ignore sins o' the owner, yes? you o' all people is blaming the dog 'cause o' the lack o' character o' the critter's owner? if we don't reverse this trend, we deserve to get bit. With Hand Mortar+Fire in the Hole I would pick Streetfighter/Arcane Archer. Fire in the Hole has a built-in jump (if properly enchanted with Chain Shot) and Driving Flight adds another one. If you put Fire in the Hole in the main hand and shoot an Imbue:Web or Imbue:Pull of Eora (even better if both) you create 3 instances of web/pull with one shot with immense ACC which will stop all non-resistant/immune enemies and pull them together so tight that your mortar explosions will hit them all while they are hard-CC'd for quite a long time. Streetfighter is just the optimal pick with everything Blunderbuss/Mortar related. Deathblows do immediately get unlocked by Blinding Smoke (Hand Mortar's enchantment). Mortars not only do AoE damage and target Reflex instead of Deflection for it, but also have dual damage. Against single targets switch to Kitchen Stove + some other Blunderbuss. A SC Streetfighter or Assassin can get to Gambit + Vanishing Strikes and cause massive mayhem with mortars while invisible. You need max INT and all the duration buffs you can get - like the Ooblit pet and special food and items - to extend the unbreakable invisibility of Vanishing Strikes. Also Backstab. Then just walk into a group and use Vanishing Strikes, then deal AoE Backstabs with Gambit. But before that it's obviously just an ordinary SC gun Rogue. With pistols it's best to go single handed (if you don't want to use a ton of Full Attacks all the time) and use the modal. The increase in reload speed is immense (faster than dual wielding) and you only lose 3 ACC (while gaining 15% crit conversion). Against pierce immune foes you can switch to Eccea's Arcane Blaster. Rogue/Ranger is also a good pick here but maybe neither Streetfighter nor Arcane Archer. Also Ciphers are good with this because they have no own full attacks anyway. Barbarians aren't too good with guns unless you pick a SC Barb and wait for Heart of Fury (which works with guns - especially well with mortars). Biggest reason is because Blood Thirst doesn't remove reload, only recovery (Heart of Fury does not trigger reload even if you use it with guns but only recovery). Guns also work with Barbaric Retaliation. Once you reach PL 8 a ranged Barb becomes fun and with PL 9 a ranged Barb becomes quite awesome due to Driving Roar (which is one of the most powerful dmg/CC combo abilities out there because at PL 9 it already has 8 power levels of scaling under its belt). With an Arquebus you can build decent Assassins. E.g with Bleak Walker/Assassin. Use the arquebus modal with Ring of Focused Flames and Flames of Devotion from stealth/invisibility and you'll have almost a guaranteed crit (+65 ACC). Dragon's Dowry is the best arquebus for assassinations. Funnily enough a Berserker/Assassin, while frail, works surprisingly well with Barbaric Smash+Assassinate as well. With the Red Hand you can once again use a Ranger/Rogue but also Cipher/Rogue is good. Cipher/Debonaire is one of my favorites because you can always charm an enemy and then shoot them for a nearly guaranteed crit. Even better: once you can cast Disintegrate you can charm, then land a crit with Disintegrate - and the enemy won't even flip back! The fast pistol shots make sure you get enough focus. Fighters aren't particularly good with guns unless you wait for Clear Out and put a gun in your main hand and a melee weapon or bashing shield in the offhand. This will unlock the option to execute Clear Out with a gun (pistol or blunderbuss). Especially devastating with mortars since it's AoE of Clear Out * AoE(s) of mortars. Also SC Fighter with Clean Sweep or Clear the Path (my favorite) is very impressive. My pick would be SC Devoted for Clear the Path or Devoted/Sharpshooter for max PEN and additional jumps with Driving Flight or Devoted/Streetfighter for high Sneak Attack and reload speed.2 points

I'm not sure I ever got a 4.8 which leads to my problem with it. I think the highest I ever got was 4.7* and that was after adjustments my platoon made after seeing what others in the company were submitting. My units were always on the low side of grading, our Master Guns was like only Jesus gets a 5 and only Chesty rates a 4.9. Average was like 4.0 to 4.2 and stellar was 4.5. It made us less competitive for picking up rank. Overall though I agree with you with it being the best meritocracy that I've ever seen. Not just here but I've been seeing ZeroHedge links pop up all over the place lately. Is it the new Breitbart or something? *No, I wasn't a bad Marine or anything :P. I picked up Sgt in about 3.5 years with no meritorious anything.1 point

Antlions could work. Another idea is adding a sandbox to the backyard to serve as a desert biome where the player can find exclusive enemies, such as the Antlion, and resources. Although the sandbox yields lots of loot, it would be a treacherous location because of the lack of water and high concentration of hostile bugs.1 point

As far as I've seen in the game, there are no ambush enemies, so it would be really cool to implement certain bugs that will hide from you and only attack when the player isn't looking. A good bug to take this role would be the Orchid Mantis. They hide inside Orchids and when the player walks past the Mantis will jump from the top onto the player. By making this enemy you would also have to make an Orchid forest.1 point

Dammit, @Amentep, now I'm even more tempted to waste my money on a Switch. As an aside, whenever anyone mentions SMT IV, I immediately think Strange Journey (which was awesome) rather than the actual SMT IV (which was aight). Not entirely accurate. I'll use Poland as an example as I know it better than Hungary. Yes, the elected government is not ideal. In fact in some areas it is outright awful with populistic social policies, and a grab at public media. They also apply a sledgehammer where a scalpel is needed when it comes to legal system and courts, which will eventually backfire. However, here the ignorance of western politicians and lefty bias of most of the media shows. Instead of understanding the structure and what kept the identity of a nation together, even though Poland, which held one of the oldest universities (founded in 1394), had cosmopolitan views and was a country of many ethnicities and religions, was erased from maps for over a hundred years, got devastated during the two world wars, its population decimated in genocide on jews and slavs (tagrtting the people of science, law, politics and culture in order to kill the identity) , then relocated under a soviet rule and kept poor in the socialist/communist dream. The only good thing is, that people in vast majority were equally poor, when eventually Poland managed to remove USSR shackles. Now in less than 30 years, some foreign powers claim to say, they know better than what these people want and fought for. They attack their national pride, their traditions and family values. It's a no brainer that the majority of population will kick back at that. Especially when you will attempt to do so aggresivly and try to belittle them and humiliate them. So a mix of national pride talk and money wins over majority of votes. That's a democratic process. I do not like the current outcome, and what the government is doing and how its using the mandate, but it's a reaction to aggresive identity politics. What's worse, people who attack these values, do little to go against people who voilate the Social Justice more, like muslim arabs and africans who are not tolerant and even trade in slaves (especially women slaves) , or a communist China, to which all global corporations pander due to cheap labor and potential for profits. EDIT: a common resident also sees how his/her country developed and at the same time sees how the other countries degenerate in safety and economic growth. They also remember how aggresively EU countries, especially Germany fought to keep their job markets closed (up to 7 years) after Poland joined the EU, and now they fund immigrants without any shared value, from areas, which are a host to known terrorist groups and without any background check and vetting process. They also notice the double standard and how Western EU and US media willingly omit the fact, that Poland is helping migrants from eastern Ukraine and Belarus, and they relocatted in hundreds of thousands to Poland in the last decade.1 point

Dear Diary: Hospital stay w/no physical access to spouse made me finally think about/cave in and get a working cellphone account. So I got me a Samsung Galaxy A51. Not the most rational choice for my purpose but the perky young sales rep didn't have to work hard to convince me. Should last me 4-5 years without changing it, if not more. I put hubby's cell on it and now it shall sit forever plugged in on a shelf for emergencies or when hubby wants to call and ask me if it was this bread or that bread I wanted from the store. It's a fairly powerful mini-tablet I guess. Salesguy was so excited about it had FOUR CAMERAS in it. I took a picture with it and eh. Maybe I will use it to send 50 short texts to hubby every day (even if he's just over in the next room) because he hates texts. Hehe. I prefer my 10.5" tablet for mobile styled media/game activity 1000% more, this phone will only be for true mobile use. I do like being able to easily video-call with one button but hubby hates doing that too so... Spent the past couple days getting my "exercise" running all over towns looking for lifestyle change supplies and things vs resting and recuperating. Had to sit on the floor in the BestBuy for a while and ended up with a cluster of sales reps asking if I wanted a chair. Done now. Next couple days I am going to do .... nothing.1 point

You might be surprised. Just because they are not attractive to us _currently_, it does not mean it won't change in the future, once they will become richer and will show stability and safety for a run of the mill "commoner", who just wants to live decently well, have family and feel his property is safe. We in the West like to think, we are special, and have some mandate to build special social constructs, which do not make sense, both culturally and evolutionary. How are nations born? What drives the nations to become relevant on the world stage historically and today? That India iconographic is cute. I wonder, if the person providing it @213374U, could highlight the differences in appearance, beliefs and current tech in those populations, if he would talk to an average joe from each area. What's the history and timespan which led to forming of a culture in that big area? You do not need to look that far for different groups of people forming something. It's enough, if you'll look at UK or Germany up until 60's Compare to the unfeasable vision of merging vastly different characteristics and placing them in competition for resources and power, and see how our primate coding kicks in. The point is, to use brain, reason and observed facts and characteristics, instead of feels and subjective perception. We are expereminting with constructs, which are unique and not resgistered on such a scale in the human history. They are counter intuitive to how we evolved in different regions over thousands of years. Imagine, if suddenly tech stopped and we would lose electrical grid (lets call an old good solar flare) Which societies would recover faster? Which would be still relevant and which would die out due to infighting? Edit: I'm of opinion that first, you build similar education level and perception for a value of science and a human life in the other regions, and once they catch up culturally and technologically, you start experimenting with merging vastly differnt ethnicities. Look how easy it is to dehumanize someone, just because the only difference might be where to allocate money...1 point

For pistols, I can recommend both SC Ranger and SC Monk. I have also played MC Ranger/Monk, but pistols really want the PL 8 and 9 monk and ranger abilities. Between the three options, I find Monk to have the highest performance. Here are the abilities I think are important for a pistolero: SC Monk: Lightning Strikes upgrade to Swift Strikes: usually Swift Flurry is the pick, but it only works with melee weapons. A 15% lightning lash is very nice to have instead. Instant activation and no cooldown. Enduring Dance upgrade to Dance of Death: good pistols tend to have on-crit effects, so you want to build accuracy where you can. Instant activation and no cooldown. Stunning Surge upgrade to Stunning Blow: again, you want to be critting, so you might as well get your mortification back when you do. You will be doing a lot of stunning as a SC pistol monk, not just with this ability. Duality of Mortal Presence just because +10 Int is too good to pass up. PL8: Resonant Touch - not a great power until you get to PL9... PL9: Whispers of the Wind: this blows the doors off most of the Ranger kit, unfortunately, because getting 5 full attacks in the span of a couple of seconds is just too good. WotW is also cheeseable on its own, like by adding Ajamuut's Stalking Cloak for free stuns on every target. I typically open with Scordeo's Trophy equipped; if opening from stealth, using Stunning Surge. If the battle starts unstealthed, then you'll immediately buff and launch Whispers of the Wind, which will give you ~5 hits from Scordeo's Trophy, which gives you a nice -25% Recovery Time buff from the Opening Barrage enhancement. If you have 5 wounds when your first WotW is done (sometimes yes, sometimes no), then you switch to Thundercrack Pistol (if you want CC) or Eccea's Arcane Blaster (if you just want to do damage) for the next WotW. Thundercrack Paralyzes its target for 2s on a crit, so depending on your accuracy you may be locking down a lot of the fight right there. 2s doesn't sound like much, but it's quite effective in shifting the momemntum of a team fight. Eccea's does raw damage with a powerful "imbued ammunition" second hit, and a chance to fire multiple times with the Fractured Bullet enchantment, so it does a lot of damage and shines once Scordeo's Trophy has stacked its recovery time buff. While you wait for wounds to build between WotW activations, I usually toss Stunning Surge around with Eccea's, but it depends on the need of the fight. Edit: I forgot to mention Resonant Touch. WotW will spread resonant touches all around. When you feel that enemies have enough (they can each have more than 10 stacks, but 10 is the maximum that will take effect, so I tend to use it once I see 10 stacks), you can activate the power and dump a lot of raw damage all at once on every enemy with stacks. After a couple of WotW activations, it can be a great clean up power. SC Ranger: Standard Ranger accuracy-increasing powers like Marked Prey and such are great PL5: Driving Flight is a superstar. Getting a free second hit on another enemy who is within a ~150 degree arc (I think? Maybe 180, but sometimes I'm sure somebody will get hit and they don't, so... ) behind the first target is amazing value for a single power pick. Weapon abilities activate on the second hit, so everything your pistols can do to the primary target can be done to the secondary target. This also works for abilities like Hobbling Shot. I get Driving Flight as soon as it becomes available. Thorny Roots: fast-casting, foe-only AoE immobilize and pierce/slash damage. The only thing keeping this from being as good as many wizard spells is the small radius. But: foe-only. It's good. PL8: Twinned Shots. This is fantastic. For 2 bond you attack your target twice. Each attack is subject to driving flight. You can open a fight with Scordeo's Trophy and have four stacks of the buff before the enemies have acted. Or with Thundercrack Pistol you get two chances to paralyze two targets. Or with Eccea's two chances for split shots, which is very fun when it happens. PL8: Whirling Strikes. This is another very good power, but counterintuitive for a pistolero. It requires a melee weapon, but uses a full attack and will fully use an offhand ranged weapon. One great way to use this is to open from stealth with the Lover's Embrace dagger and Scordeo's Trophy: everybody in range of the power (which is considerably further than melee range, FYI) will be hit with the massive raw damage DoT from Whirling Strikes. Everybody within range of the power will also be hit with the never-ending raw damage DoT from Lover's Embrace. And everybody in pistol range (much further than the power's range) will be shot with Scordeo's Trophy. I really wish it could be paired with a rogue for backstab damage, but Mick Jagger tells me that I can't always get what I want. In practice I'm usually able to get five stacks or so from Scordeo's Trophy and destroy or nearly destroy three enemies who were in melee range - and they won't live long with those DoTs. I heavily invested in stealth on this character to be able to do this. PL9: Stunning Shots: this is amazing. Don't let "shots" mislead you: every weapon crit you do, melee or ranged, interrupts its target. This is enormous. With Driving Flight, you are typically interrupting two enemies on auto attacks. That is huge passive CC, and makes it easier to swap away from Thundercrack Pistol on difficult fights. I was not able to find much use for the other Ranger PL9 powers. Again, I open with Scordeo's Trophy to build stacks of the speed buff from the pistol - one or two Twinned Shots for -20% or -40% Recovery Time, then switch to Thundercrack to disrupt/paralyze casters and Eccea's to finish things off. Ranger/Monk: The abilities are mostly the same here. There is a pleasing economy of power picks because so many monk powers (and a few Ranger powers) are useless to a pistolero, but it really hurts to lose out at the top end of the power curve on both classes. If you have to go this way, I'd recommend modding to raise the level cap or give access to PL8 or PL8 and PL9 abilities to multiclass characters by level 20. The best part about a pistolero is that you get three unique pistols that each serves a different purpose, and switching between them is very useful. I take Arms Bearer for this reason. Scordeo's does damaging crits and buffs your recovery time, Thundercrack has a nice lightning lash and paralyzes on crits, and Eccea's does raw + corrode damage for those enemies that are immune to pierce. I recommend getting each of them as soon as possible. I think there are other classes and multiclasses that could work well, but these are the ones I have tried and can speak about with knowledge. The Ranger, Monk, and Ranger/Monk also do well with blunderbusses (SC monk especially - WotW with two blunderbusses and the aoe modal and bounces.... it's over the top), but if you just search for "boeroer blunderbuss" on this site you'll find much more information than I can provide on that subject1 point

True, if you disregard the fact that there's more than 100 different ethnic groups in Russia, and over 50 in China -- millions of people. India is literally, literally the most diverse country on earth, being home to thousands of ethnic groups and tribes with hundreds of languages. Compared to that, the US is a quaint little white ethnostate. Really, the convulsive decline of the West is just late-stage capitalism. No doubt we'll continue to see efforts to blame its failure on whatever, much like apparatchiks blamed the failure of communism on "saboteurs and anti-social elements". Doesn't change the facts none.1 point

regarding weapon upgrades: One thing is the improvement of penetration. I do not play on PotD, but even then some enemies are very annoying. In systems with DR you can compensate problems with more damage, in Deadfire your damage is pathetic if your penetration does not reach enemy AR. back to sales numbers: Yes, maybe the fact that obsidian nerved stuff every time players found something powerful might be another factor among many others. RPGs are the type of games with the most complex rules. Even devs cannot predict everything. Players will find combinations of items and abilities that can make some encounters that are supposed to be difficult very easy, up to the point of becomming immortal. I am surprized they did not nerf salvation of time+barring deaths door+brilliant, which seems to be the only way to manage the ultimate chellenge. Lets invent a rule: Every sufficiently complex RPG will have legal combinations to break the game. If this is impossible either its not an RPG or its not complex enough. By break I mean you become almost immortal against most enemies. Deadfire is a complex RPG by this definition. I just finished Mass effect again and it is not. Its easy in general, just shoot stuff and watch for cover. Just to be sure: Just because a game is not a very complex RPG does not mean it is a bad game and not every complex RPG is good.1 point
