  1. It will sell well enough, even though the people who were interested in the game already invested. Take at look at the current #1 game on the Steam top sellers list. Divinity: Original Sin is another niche indie kickstarter RPG that is selling well enough even after the initial investment.
  2. Name one. Mount & Blade series to a varying degree. Maybe not in the map and power elements, but in time period weapon/armour design, combat elements architecture etc. it seems fairly accurate. Shogun II is apparently similarly accurate. Crusader Kings II apparently is even more historically accurate. I'm sure I could go looking for more, but I have to go to bed, so I'll just leave you with this Kickstarter that I backed: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1294225970/kingdom-come-deliverance That got over 3x its funding goal. Mount & Blade isn't historically accurate and it wasn't well received and it sale figures were at best mediocre. Medicre sales compared to the most popular titles, but for a niche indie like Mount & Blade those sales were pretty decent. Decent enough that it's getting a sequal. And while the review on gaming news sites were around the averge-above average category, it's rated highly by users and famous youtube reviewers. And I don't see how it's not historically accurate. Of course, it can't be totally accurate since it's still a game and it needs its gamey elements to be a fun game.
  3. Is that really true? I remember in DA2 I told Anders I just wanted to be friends and I don't remember any issues, he may have sulked ...but he was still in my party and played an active role in combat. I don't think he asked again, so in 50 hours of gameplay I didn't consider a 3 minute dialogue with him as intrusive or a game flaw....what am I missing? For the most part it's not true at all. However in DA:O it's very easy to trigger a romance with Leliana after doing her companion quest with fairly innocuous dialogue choices. /end off topic As someone who played a lot of DA:O, I can assure you that can only romance her if you pick any dialogs that show romantice interest. IIRC, you only get 2 chances to do this. And I see no problem with locking content to romances as long as it makes sense. It was a bit of bummer that you couldn't do the rest of Anomen's quest without the romance. Logically, the later part of his quest would have worked fine without romancing him.
  4. The general purpose stuff is pretty easy. I installed Linux Mint on my mother's laptop, and she has no problem using it as a casual user. I'm glad that PoE is coming to my OS of choice, and I do hope this means all future games made by Obsidian will have Linux support. Sadly it looks like they Tank MMO doesn't have Linux support at all even though Cryengine will support Linux in the future.
  5. Blah, I can't update my other post. Anyway, I'm not really a backer, but I just want to see gameplay. I don't deserve any type of entitlement at all. :D
  6. I just want to see gameplay. It's just so weird to not show any when the game is supposed to be released in about 6 months. I know I'm certainly more excited for both the Witcher 3 and Dragon than PoE because I actually got a chance to see both in action. It seriously makes me wonder whether they are going to even hit the 2014 release date.
  7. Some of you people really underestimate the power of word to mouth. Games like Minecraft, Flappy Bird, Demon Souls, and Day Z (during the arma II mod days) sold millions, and they did not have any type of marketing budget or hype built from websites. Regardless of whether journalists report the game or not, I expect PoE to be on the top the steam sales charts on the first day simple due to word of mouth alone.
  8. I hope it isn't an organization that you're forced to join because that lowers RPing opportunities.
  9. Agreed. I refuse to believe the game is coming out this year until I see some footage.
  10. I'll be really disappointed if Priests end up being nothing but support bots. I was really hoping for them to be similar to D&D 3.5 clerics at least. Oh well, hopefully the final spell list will contain some more interesting offensive spells and self buffs.
  11. Between you and C2B, I don't know which one of you is bigger stalker. I'm just kidding. You're awesome.
  12. You seem to not only have reading deficiency, but also problems with time frame. You wrote this first: And my reply was to this statement which clearly states a constant challenge as bad. I even asked you to clarify if you intent was otherwise. You then wrote IN REPLY that constant challenge is in fact ok. Now you claiming that I replied to your statement BEFORE you wrote it? I'm not sure if you lie on purpose, suffer from hyperopia or something more severe like cognitive disorders... but your posts are a big messy pile of confusion, shameless lies and awful analogies... Likewise my discussion with you ends here and what I've learned is that you definitely have no clue about the effects and ways of implementation of level scaling. For a bit of humor, I'll end my post quoting you: "This is an important point." Really pathetic how a lot of name calling and insulting has been going on the obsidian boards lately. I swear I'm in RPGcodex.
  13. Nothing confuses me, I just think it isn't needed. Well it is a little late in the game for that, you will get used to it. Personally I hope it turns out to be next to impossible to solo the game. I never got why people even tried. The game isn't more fun that way, the story is no different, etc etc. The story is usually no different if you're playing a chick, a different class, or a different race either. It's basically a nice thing to have for a person who like to roleplay as a loner type character. Not to mention it's nice for alternate challenges.
  14. I find you reasoning extremely vague. I don't really see a problem with sorcerers. It's not like they were overpowered or lore breaking or anything. And their spell system worked well enough to the point where they created the Spirit Shaman and Favored Soul.
  15. Rofl. Perhaps you two should relax. I couldnt care less which OS anyone uses, or their skill level, or what market share Linux enjoys. I though we were having a simple conversation on why a user would choose Windows over Linux to game on and it is my opinion that ease of use is that reason. Nothing more, nothing less. Coming off as aggressive tools is bad form. I work in the software industry, and I use to work for Microsoft, and its funny how certain Linux and Unix fans are almost militant around there support for any platform outside of Windows. They seem to overlook the fact that for the majority of people the thought of installing Linux is a lot of hard work and they will battle to get decent support, warranties and some of there games and gaming hardware isn't even supported on Linux. Its fine if you personally know Linux and can effectively do your own troubleshooting but this isn't the case for most people The main difference between Linux or Windows for customers is the ease of interoperability and Windows wins that easily. This shouldn't even be a point of contention. I am not suggesting that some people on these forums don't prefer Linux, I believe that. But if I was developer and I had a limited budget I would have to be seriously convinced to create a game that also supports Linux because it makes more financial sense to create games for the Windows market, I also don't see any gaming benefit from a Linux game around factors like graphic settings and the required hardware If you were a developer that had a limited budget, you would most likely be using a low cost engine like Unity or Mono, which has multiplatform support right out of the gate. It only takes 5 minutes to import your game to Linux. Many developer that I talked too said that they actually made extra profits from porting their games to make and linux. This is why I believe it's important to use a multiplatform engine from the start, because it makes porting simple. This is pretty big reason why Crytek added Linux support to their engine. Also, as a software developer myself, I can actually confirm that the huge benefit for making games on Linux is it's easier to port games to the PS4. The last game we worked on only took a few days to port because Linux shares some similarities to the PS4's operating system (which is based on FreeBSD, a fork of Linux).
  16. OT: The be honest with you, I didn't really enjoy BG, IWD, or PST for the isometric style, 2d backgrounds, or the combat (I really don't find real time with pause combat tactical or enjoyable). However, what I did like about the games was the party system, atmosphere, story, and sense of adventure. As long as those four aspects are intact, I will enjoy the game no matter what.
  17. Typical answer from a developer trying to appeal to the keyboard & mouse elitists, despite the fact the one of the strengths of the PC is its ability to have multiple playing styles (K&M, Razor Naga, Controller). I wish you understand that while we like playing with a keyboard and mouse, sometimes we like to play our PC games on the couch in front of a TV as well. I know people say it "doesn't work", but I've played many console strategy games and SRPGs from the SNES and up that control like the infinity engine games, and they worked perfectly. Nevertheless, if the developers don't add controller support, I think I will as a mod. Considering I work for an Indie development studio that has extensive knowledge in Unity and C#, it shouldn't be that hard.
  18. You know, it's funny. You got economic majors in this topic saying that a cinematic is too expensive, yet you got indie companies like Klei and Wayfoward who can make animated cutscenes on a limited budget. While I don't care either way, I personally don't think it would be a waste a resources to do provided the art team is finished with everything else.
  19. There's no conflict if there's no antagonist. That said, I'm not trying to support the OP and its ilk. Antagonists can take many forms. Protagonist doesn't mean "good guy," and antagonist doesn't mean "bad guy." Protagonist's Greek root basically means "lead actor," antagonist's Greek root means "rival," "opponent" or "competitor." My message wasn't clear enough. I just simply said I'm sick of main antagonists being the same overused cliche villains. Why does the antagonist have to be human? Why does he have to be the typical rival? Why does he have to be good villain or an evil villain? That's my complaint. I hope PE has no main villain. Perhaps you need fight your own personal demons that doesn't involve some random loser getting in your way. Antagonist doen't have to be just human beings, they could be some metaphysical, an addiction, a belief, etc.
  20. Does the game really need an main antagonist to tell a good story? Surely there can be other ways of motivating a person without chasing or being chased down by a villain. I rather deal with conflicts in other unique ways than deal with a cliche villain.
  21. No offensive, but your topic title is misleading. I thought they had an actual title.
  22. I agree that they should not used the IWD/BG2 map system. The map travel system in games like Fallout or Arcanum is much more enjoyable because of the exploration aspects. I enjoy getting lost in the world map finding interesting random encounters and hidden areas.
  23. I really hope this stronghold is not a requirement for picking up prisoners. Extra gold, exclusive items and weapons, bonus stats, and non important NPCs are fine in my opinion, but something as important as sparing NPCs' lives should be available for people who do not care about the stronghold at all. What if I'm playing a non warmonger or a lawful type character who doesn't want a stronghold? That wouldn't be fair exactly from a RPing point of view.
  24. BG2. Beyond that, i agree. Eh, Mass Effect 1 had some of the best graphics for its time, and KOTOR 1 looked as good as any other Xbox/PS2 game at the time. Graphics != looks good. If art is bad, no amound of graphics will save it. BG2 looked terrible even back in early 2000s, and its artstyle failed to the likes of Icewind Dale. Mass Effect's artstyle actually looks decent for its time.
