  1. Yeah, 'cause that makes it constructive. "Um, excuse me. Your suggestion that all that stuff you just said was fact is inaccurate, as some of it is subjective. Therefore, I'd like to point out that EVERYTHING IS ACTUALLY 100% SUBJECTIVE! MUAHAHAHA!" That's equally as inaccurate as claiming everything is OBjective. TL;DR -- Two wrongs don't make a right. You always come off as a pretenious snob in your post. I'll just simply say I personally don't see anything wrong with it, so I guess we have to agree to disagree. I'll remove myself from this threat for good and won't say anything else further.
  2. Woman gets punched in the gut and Geralt rescues the female damsel in distress? Don't let a certain group of people see that video.
  3. I actually hoping for gender reactivity as well. I know this may sound a bit sexist, but some people do treat others differently based on whether they are a man or woman.
  4. Or people throw the card because the other person starts acting like a jerk by presenting all of their opinions as fact.
  5. I doubt a budget has anything to do with clever writing. Torment: TIdes of Numerna is being design were you can pretty much play the game as a pacifist (to mirror itself close to Planescape Torment), and it has around the same budget as Project Eternity. If this is a spiritual successor to BG games though, then expect a lot of combat outside and in dungeons.
  6. Well, if anyone here a fan of JRPGs, then you may want to look at project phoenix. It has some of the top Japanese developers in the business. Seems like it will have no trouble reaching its funding goal. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1300298569/project-phoenix-japans-indie-rpg-feat-aaa-talent
  7. I rather just have a choice for the UI: Oldschool (BG), IWD2 style, and New School (minimal). As a programmer, I know how time consuming UI are, but I certainly don't think there is a downside for letting us choose. While I did hated the UI from BG1 & BG2, I REALLY loved the IWD1 UI because it looked pretty. Heck, I'll mod it in the game myself if I have to.
  8. On the other hand, in D&D there's no meaningful gameplay difference between a WIS 18 and WIS 7 fighter, or an INT 18 and INT 7 cleric, and so on. Those stats are effectively meaningless for those classes. Zen Archery Fighter that has high will save? Cleric who actually has skill points and can invest in skills like whirlwind and use Combat Insight skill to use int instead of strength as damage? Yeah, I know you were probably talking about AD&D instead of 3.5/Pathfinder, but still.
  9. Reminds me of this Boondocks episode http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_wWdTryqLY (some offensive material). Male prison rape was pretty much the whole joke of the episodes. I think male on male rape is seen as less offensive because generally men are seen as "less weak" and "independent".
  10. I never seen the point in going single class cleric in IWD, when fighter/cleric or a wizard/cleric is better.
  11. I will defend the use of unkillable NPCs on Skyrim because of the dragon/vampire attacks, it would be annoying if you were cut from the game through no actions of your own. Honestly, that's just bad design. NPCs should have been unkillable by other NPCs; it sucked to see a town wiped out by a dragon because you was just in the general area.
  12. The companions in FO3 were kind of shallow (Butch was pretty cool, but he was developed before he became your companion), so it's not really the best example of decent companions.
  13. Couldn't the same argument be applied to physical torture? Which seems to happen in numerous amounts of RPGs.
  14. I've been a fan of Fire Emblem since Mystery of the Emblemon the SNES. My biggest peeve with the series is that FE has a bunch of Anime stereotypes as characters. Characters like Roy or Celice really have no depth besides the "knight in shining armor personality" I thought NWN OC companions were ok at best. I don't see how they are "terrible" they pretty much work the same way as KOTOR companions. Hordes of the Underdark was a huge improvement; it pretty laid down the foundation for companions in the first KOTOR games, not to mention giving us one of the most memorable companions in an RPG (Deekin).
  15. Unlike a gish, cleric is focused a lot on buffing. Gish should be able to buff himself and cast good damage dealing spells as well as fight in melee. Pretty sure my 3.5 cleric can do all of this the last time I played D&D. Only melee buffs I used was either divine favor or Divine power. The domain I picked were using offensive in nature anyway, so my clerics usually had offensive spells in addition to melee and decent buffs. I think you guys are underestimating the power of the cleric, especially the 3rd edition one.
  16. It worked wonders for Neverwinter Nights. I'm not trying to be snarky. That seems to be a commonly held opinion. Well, I think that's what Harebrained Studios thought. Then of course they went and made a campaign that makes NWN OC look like Ulysses. EDIT - Bastard Necro! Kill it with fire! And, I had even posted in here before and forgot. Speaking of NWN OC, I thought it was a bit underrated. It just that the pacing of the game was a bit...unusual.
  17. This is a bit of a rude thing to say. Different people have different preferences. Sometimes this quality ends up with companions in a game I don't like at all (MOTB).
  18. I honestly found Torment's characters to be overrated. Even after playing the game multiple times, other than Dak'kon mini quest, none of them talked as much as I wanted them to. Some characters seemed like mere after thoughts (Nordom, Ignus, and Vhailor). FFG just joins you just because you.... asked ask her to join. I'll never get that one. But getting on topic, I think most games do companions well, so I can't pick one game. However, my favorite companion in a video games has to be Virgil from Arcanum. He's a character that not only has a mind of his own, but he can be greatly influenced by the main character. Kreia is pretty nice as well.
  19. I disagree. Gunplay was broken in its core. Obsidian themselves have acknowledged that including Avellone and Sawyer. It's not even how they wanted it. One of the major problems here was how long they took to define the general question on how they should balance the rpg and shootery aspects ending up having to have it enforced (And leading to a major change in how Obsidian does project management today) with a sub-par system. The gunplay system we got was neither a good rpg system nor a good shooter. Yet I enjoy the gunplay and everything else in that game. Go figure. *shrugs*
  20. I'm not trying to sound rude, but by this logic, what's the point of the barbarian and Paladin in this game then (going by the description we heard about on the kickstarter updates)? One is a commanding type fighter and the other is a fighter that wild and untamed. I certainly don't think these class are more specialized than an unarmored swordsman who trades defense for speed and power.
  21. And weird enough, I liked BG2 cast of companions the more than Mask of the Betrayer or PS:T. They should probably stick with a low number if they want to make these companions deep, but I honestly hope there is a little more than 9 in the future at least. l know there is going to be a few companions out of the 9 that I won't like. I wouldn't mind having a extra few companions they are less developed than the main 9 just for a little more variety.
  22. I agree that Druids are strong (often considered an overpowered beast in table top D&D 3.5), but I think clerics are better in almost every way, especially if you pick the good domains. Just like druids, Cleric also have a decent combination of buffs and damage spells (with the correct domain). And I doubt you need me to tell you have much cheese divine favor, divine power, undeath to death, and turn undead are in the OC. Clerics without the correct domain lack Premonition, but I think stone body + freedom can give it a run for its money. I actually don't mind this. Obsidian was obviously going for a story driven experience over a gameplay one. It's not like you desperately needed spells during the first hour or two of the game.
