  1. The item sketches were nice in BG games, but I don't think it's needed in this game. Icewind Dale and Planescape Torment got along fine without them, and I rather Obsidian use their 2d art resources on other things (like more 2d portraits and making nice icons for items and spells).
  2. The butthurt and flaming in this topic was glorious. I was always supportive of a delay, but now I rather they release it htis year just to piss off the whiny children in this topic.
  3. No offense to the topic creator, but they're not going to change shіt. You might as well deal with it.
  4. If you go back and read the 1500 posts on this topic that are all in the threads that got locked.. I mentioned like 5 ways to get around this abuse.. one of them is close to what your saying. Yeah, I'm not surprised. I've heard a lot from people who want Kill XP and next to nothing from people who don't. Do these people actually exist? In the end, as Polanski said, the devs likely are already well enough aware of the pros and cons, I suppose all that's left is to show them our preference while there's still (possibly) a window of opportunity for such a big change to gameplay. Actually, I'm not sure that they could even make such a big change at this point without delaying the game... I've waited 14 years for an actual well done successor to BGII. I'm willing to wait longer if we can make Pillars of Eternity that game. Accept this isn't going to be a BGII successor. It's an infinity engine style game. And last time I checked, BGII isn't the only infinity engine game.
  5. Pure fighters were terrible in BG2 because of nerfed grand mastery and because of how magic users damage output and utility scaled at higher levels. Wizard Slayer went far beyond terrible locking the character out of most magic items without offering anything useful in return. Of course, if you wanted to gimp yourself without inventing any artificial rules WS was the way to go. Just because magic was overpowered in BG2 doesn't mean pure fighers were terrible. Pure fighters were absoultely fine in BG2. They still had insanse HP growth, they still had excllent damage in range and in melee. In fact, one of the best NPCs in BG2 (ToB) was a pure fighter. As for WS, most magic item effects were replicated by spell and they still had access to one of the best boots in the game, but you're right, no magic items are a BIG penalty. However, I don't see they spell failure ability(that goes through effects like stoneskin and mirror image) as "offering nothing useful in return." Not to mention they are a great class to dual with a thief if you want 100% magic resistance in Throne of Bhaal. I'll admit the kit isn't THAT great, but there is something satifying about seeing a Lich have 100% spell failure after 10 hits.
  6. And comments like this is the reason why I think BG2 has to be one of the most overrated RPGs of all time.
  7. Unless you never played a fighter class in during those first four playthroughs, don't see how you had any more difficulty compared to using any other figher buikld. WS are just basically fighters that can't use certain equipment options....that's it. They're nearly identical to normal fighers. I'm not seeing how picking that class makes the game more difficult when BG2 is a party based anyway.
  8. I really hope they don't waste there time doing that. From what I seen of it in Arcanum and fallout, they never write idiot dialogue in a realistic manner, and NPCs reactions to said idiot dialogue is rediculous. It's interesting how most of the good NPCs in these games end up turning into аssholes just because you're playing an idiot.
  9. I normally don't respond to this sort of thing, but... really, Helm. You're one of the most abrasive and divisive posters on these forums. Getting all pious about how bad it is that the community is split is a bit rich, frankly. If you want us all to be a big happy family, then :roots in cliché bag: be the change you want to see. Uh, oh, here come the personal insults again. I should have known that you would never change. But yeah, just completely deny that there is a lot of controversy and feuding going on, if that makes you feel happy. I'm not seeing any controversy on this forum. All I'm seeing is three people (You, Mrakvampire, and Glubba) acting like bunch of butthurt crybabies.
  10. The less this game is like BG2, the better. The game certainly doesn't need dumb dispell the mage battles, shіtty save imoen plots, or the huge amount of dumb peasants barging you with quests in athkatla. The more this game is like Planescape Torment (sans the battle system), the better.
  11. I made this request (or maybe i was someone else) like 2 years ago. I hope there is a none option, because the voices you often choose in these games never fit the character I play
  12. Bit a crime to not recommend Open Broadcast Software.
  13. Same. Main NPCs will probably have some nice minor voice acting, but I definitely want to see some voice acting from the minor NPCs like in BG2. Who doesn't remember lines like, "Heya" or "Just watch yourself, I have a quick eye."
  14. Does Obsidian really need to do a sci fi game? I know some people want to see Obsidian take on the Sci-Fi genre so they can one up Square Enix and/or Bioware offerings, but I think the sci fi setting is overused. I would love to see another RPG in the modern setting. Maybe something similar to Alpha Protocol or even Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines?
  15. Some people on this site have a weird obsession with GoG. I'm all for DRM free, and I can understand why they like it, but these people fail to notice that many of the games on GoG are also DRM free on Steam as well. I just ran both Half Life and Divinity: Original Sin without steam running at all. It's not like I use Gog all that much anyhow even though I have a few games there; they doesn't support my main operating system at the moment.
  16. Infuriating? Really? They have the exact same meaning in all instances.
  17. I think it's old school. You wanna fight about it?
  18. If Obsidians make its so it doesn't require steamworks systems, then you can play the game without loading Steam even if you installed it with steam (in other words, DRM free). Games like Divinity Original Sin already do this.
  19. You could have gotten it on the Gray Market site (like Kinguin.net) for a 20 bucks or so. Those may be steam keys only, but the steam version of D:OS is DRM free.
  20. Agreed. This has to be the best CRPG I played in years. I never had this much fun in a game in a long time. I doubt even Pillars of Eternity will be this good of a game.
  21. It's funny; you guys keep saying this, yet I remember when this whole forum went insane when they found out the game was going to have weapon durability. There was even a poll here in the general discussion. Didn't take Obsidian long to get rid of it.
  22. No. A good story is a story that knows when and how to end. It's like The Dark Knight quote, you either die a good story or you live long enough to see yourself become a bad one. Nothing good would come out of prolonging the Bhaalspawn saga. And if BG3 is completely unrelated, then it's just cashing on the name. Too late, the Bhaalspawn saga already continued with D&D Next/D&D 5. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/Product.aspx?x=dnd/products/dndacc/45370000 So Bhaalspawn already return in the current Forgotten Realms canon. To simply say that it has ended is not true at all. Some of you people really need to do your research.
  23. It kind of sucks that your topic is going to be closed after writing all of that. He's hoping the mods take pity on this topic.
  24. I'm sorry to bring of D:OS again, but the game is still on top the steam charts and it currently has sold 160,000 copies at the moment. This is a game that doesn't have any reviews yet. it's selling well due to initial word to mouth (which I stated was highly underrated form of advertising in another topic). Do understand this game had kickstarter AND was in early access, so would you think it would be less succesful post release date for those reasons alone, but it doesn't look like the game sales will be down anytime soon. What does this mean for Pillars? I assume pillars can easily sell over 300,000 copies in no time because of word of mouth alone. It could possibly sell a lot more since it will have better advertising and marketing than D:OS.
  25. Darren Monahan, one of the programmers at Obsidian, is a big Linux user, so I assume he does most of the Linux testing.
