I completly understand OP. It is how I feel, but the older I am I find less and less such moments. I guess that is why I feel so strongly about BG. But gameplay has aLot to say. Skyrim visuals were epic, but I found gameplay destilled as it is crossplatform game. I still cant wait for Beta. If game is somewhat by my expectations, than beta wont ruin it, it will make me just play more :D

A New Vampire for Eternity
Tauron replied to septembervirgin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Why call it vampire? Becouse it drinks insides of it victim? It does sound monstrous, demonlike, so just let us start with that. Let us not defile this vampire idea no more. At one point we just have to stop, draw the line and say YOU SHALL NOT PASS or something along those lines...it is a demon, not a vampire, ok Btw, bloodmagic isnt DA invention, even if PE has some spell that involves blood as component and can be thought as bloodmagic, it should not turn out to be KirkWALL, DA! Idea behind bloodmagic is much older and reason is becouse some cultures belive that soul, chi or whatever is heavily connected to blood, bloodstream and the heart. Great concept, but DA was terrible at explaning why bloodmagic is acually a taboo, exept the obvious gory part. Apparantly one of reasons is one was able to influnce others against their will..but than again one had an entire school of magic, entropy dedicated perverting the mind, body and lifeforce etc. Didnt really see clear destinction. -
8 companions: is it enough?
Tauron replied to RAE's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)

I would like to have different exit options. After few lvls if I so choose to go back, mostly becouse i have loot that needs to be sold or have to get new equipment. Unless dungeon is specifically designed in such a manner that once you enetr you go all the way, than okej. But dungeon deep like this only make common sense that it has several exit entrances. Evry 2 or 3 lvl should be good.

Tauron replied to Dragonnn's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Good point about dragons chabneruk, dragons should always be awsome. -
This is easy. Devs just add different body proportions. Maybe even slider, so we can slide proportions.

Except some new content, I am bit dissapointed. All mentioned enhancment has been already done in form of mods. I really hoped for something more. After that I stopped following forums. I will stil buy it, beinga geek that I am. But mostly becouse I cant wait to see how community might further enhance it.

Paladins and Bards
Tauron replied to AlphaShard's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Do they really need to have a "title" of their own? What if you can pick skills and feats/traits/whatever that can make your fighter do what a paladin does in traditional D&D? I'm probably hoping for more character build customization options than a larger number of traditional classes. I don't think this is mutually exclusive. I think you can have a flexible system and still include traditional subclasses without it being a huge drain on resources. Where the titles have importance is that when people choose these I guess iconic roles to play they want to have who they are reflected in the game. So for someone playing as a Paladin it would be frustrating for them if in-game they were reacted to as a standard healer cleric. The same would go for a bard, you want to be treated as a wandering minstrel rather than as a catburgler - does that make sense? Also in a text based game I can't see why this would be a problematic feature for them to include. After all it's largely a matter of typing 'Hello Lord-Knight' instead of 'Hello Holy Father' I imagine. Makes sense. I guess are preferences are just different Not sure if I can explain mine eloquently, but I prefer to be acknowledged for my actions (i.e. the faction reputation) rather than a preset class. If I show my ugly face and the villagers flee screaming away from me, I want to be because I've killed a larger number of "villager class" and so they have come to fear me, not because I picked "Barbarian" as my starting preset. I know it's not going to happen to that level of detail, but one could always hope. That makes it more rewarding playing the class. To me it feels as it accualy gives you greater sense of accomplishment. Barabarian is a fighter...I think Barbarian implies fighting style and maybe culture that is a typical semi-nomad. It has become sort of stereotype during 80's and now in gaming world. To me it only implies arrogance of ancient greeco-roman culture. (so called civilised society) -
Class idea - Engineer
Tauron replied to Qumi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I think for this setting, engineer is more of a blacksmith type. So instead, lets hope Obsidian reaches strechgoal to implement crafting. Than, you may have fighter/ engineer type of character. His crafting skills complement type of fighting. -
Paladins and Bards
Tauron replied to AlphaShard's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Well, yes...something like that. Start with 'archtypes' and then develop your to your desired class as you go on. Gives you sense of achievement. Blurry line is that some subclasses, specialisations, can variate betwean Archtypes and by what logic can they be implemented? Not evreybody would agree. Like I used exempel on Paladin. It has some Priest abilities and Fighter abilities. Someone could also argument that Ranger should be specialisation for fighter or a rogue. Since rogue is more relaying on stealth, guile, traps. Ranger is like rogue of wilds. So to what archtype specialisation it belongs, can be argued. -
Paladins and Bards
Tauron replied to AlphaShard's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Paladins are also divine spell casters and use auras in addition to being very good fighters. Yes and it just makes more valid arguments for Priest = Battle/Fighter Priest = Paladin. You can even Fighter = Battle Priest = Paladin. It all depends how you choose to progress your class and what is your skill focus. I think that if devs take this path, makes it so much more rewarding playing your chosen class. I am not arguing against Paladin or Bard or Monk. Just how devs intend to implement them in the setting. Have 100 classes of their own for all I care if they can be built upon, both RP wise and just practically. Having mage class, than next to him having elemetalist caster, than shadow magic caster, than pyromancer caster or whatever...it makes little sense. It is same thing, just specialisation is different. Have starting class mage or " magic caster" and than develop and mold that character how you desire. Either skill wise or simply as you lvl you get option you can choose from. If you are evil, obviously you cant be Paladin, so buhu for being thug and killing people. I hope you understand my rant..my english is limited. -
