  1. Right, people not driving cars are doing what they're doing because they're lazy. Speaking of "getting it wrong"... However, I completely agree on the point of the Orwellian aspect of it all: Modern cars are way too connected with their manufacturing corporation as well as anyone able to tap into that connection. It is not a necessary part of autonomous driving of course, but the higher the electronic parts are developed, the more surveillance is included as well. It's a trend in every kind of device that I find horrifying to the extreme because it's quite impossible to not be connected. Even completely offline electronic devices such as a PC without WLAN and no other means of internet connection is subject to the effort of "bridging the air gap" as I've heard "security" people involved in component's development call it.
  2. In my country, he'd get a significantly faster R7 265 for the same price as a GTX 750 (non-Ti). But to make a good suggestion: What are the real constraints here: Budget, target resolution and visual quality options, preferred games or other application to run on the graphics card, preferred vendors, space- or power constraints?
  3. Nice party For a similar setup in my planned run I'd replace The Drifter with The Nomad
  4. Looky here, with rather different instrumentation, but maybe fitting Warhammer as well
  5. Still shadow issues in 392. In Dyrford village, right after starting a new game, there are no shadows for the party's characters. However, letting the characters run to the right causes the shadows to appear. Now if I move the screen to the right, the shadows start to disappear again, but only on the dirty ground, not on the grass. Reproduce: - Start new game - Move characters to the right until they have shadows - Position them so you have some on the dirt road and some on the grass near Medreth - Move the screen slowly to the right and observe the shadows Expected: - Characters cast shadows Actual: - Characters cast shadows only if not near the edge of the map - Shadows disappear if screen edge approaches, as long as the shadows are on the dirt road Screenshots: The left image border is the screen border
  6. Yes, I found the mirroring to be annoying as well, constantly switching sword and shield hands at every turn... That was one reason why I was slightly disappointed with Heart of Winter, which updated the IWD engine with the new sprites. Also, the inventory graphics of the shields, most noticably, did no longer fit their ingame appearance. The new sprites were animated more smoothly however. And on topic: I judge the PoE models to be more detailed and to my liking than the IE animated sprites. And PoE has evolved further with the new patch My first impressions are: definitely better than before! More icons, better level ups, backer characters less obstrusive, better inventory... Haven't started to fight yet however. I wonder how that goes this time.
  7. Agreed :D What's your favourite game / application on it so far? And were you shocked by the low apparent resolution as well?
  8. Got a letter from the government the other day, opened it and read it, it said they were suckers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZJTM03UByU
  9. It's just binary search with a first step to set the extremes. May not be the most efficient choice mathematically, but makes sense because it's fast enough and a manual process is needed here. Thus the method of choice should be easy to grasp and apply for humans. As opposed to an automated approach to an optimization problem.
  10. The character close ups have improved from the first betas. However, they still are lit in a very flat way - lighting is one of the main components of an appealing presentation of a 3d model. Also, some supersample anti-aliasing would work wonders with these shimmering chain mail textures etc...
  11. I agree with Sarex regarding the SSD! Other than that, it will certainly perform nicely Regarding the sound card: Before taking that potential step down in technology and replacing an X-Fi with an Audigy, I'd try whether the X-Fi really does not work under 8.1. Because imo, it should. Of course, this is only worth trying if - it's a PCIe card (and not a PCI card, because your mainboard does not have a PCI slot) - it's a real X-Fi (not that... hm, I think xtreme gamer it was without the real X-Fi EMU chip?) I wasn't even aware that Audigys are still produced oO
  12. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42Q0sNZ9yR4 Very nice And reminds me of the soundtrack to Expeditions: Conquistador, which I quite enjoyed for a while
  13. Wonderful Thank you Leferd for digging that up I hope that is still the current plan, seeing that it was posted two years ago.
  14. These texture problems are issues with the LOD, not with "multiple renderers". (Or I'd be very surprised)
  15. I'm not sure that would be so preferrable, because it creates an additional hurdle for us Non-Steam-Users. If you play some game in a DRM free version, e.g. from GOG, that also exists with Steam Workshop integration, you have to use some pretty elaborate manual workarounds to be able to download mods. And it really depends on the game's design whether you can then integrate those downloaded files into the game at all, because some use a dedicated installer for these Steam Workshop mods. All in all, I'd definitely prefer some central Mod Database from which Steam and Non-Steam versions alike could up- and download their preferred mods.
  16. Very happy with the new visuals, including icons and portraits While there are some effect glitches like the spells attaching themselves to affected characters, or the really big effect near the mill's wheel, minute things like the redesigned selection circles or apparently modified character faces/eyes make for a much better impression
  17. Mhm, yep, good vibes. And by good, I mean bad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzzipZokvE0&feature=youtu.be
  18. Having them static is better than that unaligned and unmotivated rotation animation. I don't mind it during my beta plays, all the IE games were also static except for special animated objects. But we'll see if that is something that's still subject to change until release.
  19. Doesn't sound like it, no. SK maybe a bit... You could try the Banner Saga (http://www.gog.com/game/the_banner_saga), but it's very small in scope in comparison and not really managing a tribe/village with a group of leaders, but rather moving around with your caravan and make depressing decisions.
  20. I'm not one of the game's devs, but you certainly provided good information about what you'd expect would happen, what actually happens, and how to reproduce. So: Yes on your question
  21. Kissin' Black - Blues: Unpardonable http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vj5Cm6TJHG0
  22. No marketing campaign because of no marketing funds besides for the good trailers and a few interviews. Other than that, the Kickstarter money went into the development. The idea with Kickstarted games often is that the Kickstarter campaign itself as well as backers later provide mouth-to-mouth propaganda automatically.
  23. If comparing to Soule, to my ears, it starts out as IWD (background, not theme) Soule-style, and ends with Total Annihilation Soule-style. Which is very good in my opinion :D I hope they get a lot of new pre-orders And of course polish the gameplay even further, so that when starting out at Level 1 and thus getting used to the game, it won't feel quite as much like labour to fight opponents by Level 5 as it does in the current beta.
  24. Should be perfectly fine if "light gaming" means older / non demanding games or lower resolution Good decision to go with a pretty large SSD from the start. Makes every computer feel faster
